Christ the Savior Orthodox Church Service

Join us for our biweekly worship service, which is open to both the Sweet Briar community and the local community. Everyone is welcome!

Join Chess Club for our first annual chess tournament for a cause. This will be a bracket style tournament allowing for two winners one in each category “beginner” and “experienced”. Categories will be determined by self reporting and an initial round. Each champion will remove a fun chess related prize and bragging rights! 

To enter a charitable donation of at least $2 must be made to the Susan Polgar Foundation (an non-profit advocacy group helping to create equality and access within the world of chess)

The community is invited to gather for a celebratory send-off for our NCEA team!  These equestrian student-athletes will be heading to Ocala, FL to compete in the national championships.  Please gather by the Lower Quad gate to receive Sweet Briar pompoms and other items to cheer them on as they begin their travels.

WOMEN LEADERS IN THE ARTS: Yassi Jahanmir and Jackie Viskup

Yassi Jahanmir is an Iranian-Italian-American theatre director, based in Italy, whose work moves between classical texts, contemporary dramaturgy, and newly devised performance. Her work has been developed and presented at theatres, universities, and festivals across the United States, the Middle East, and Europe. Jahanmir co-founded the Tucson Fringe Festival and is the artistic director of Arêté Theatre (www.aretetheatre.com), co-artistic director of Raw Materials Theatre Company (www.rawmaterialstheatre.org), and co-artistic director of the upcoming Schechner Plays Festival (www.schechnerplays.com), celebrating the creative legacy of Richard Schechner.

Jackie Viskup currently serves as the Community Arts and Arts Facilities Program Manager for the Alabama State Council on the Arts. In this capacity she advises and manages grant funding for non-profit organizations, local arts agencies, and municipalities across the 67 counties in Alabama. She also collaborates on planning and implementation of Council programs such as the Bill Bates Leadership Institute and is the director of the bi-annual Celebration of Alabama Arts event, an awards show that honors artists who have made significant contributions to the arts and their communities. She also directs shows locally and runs Salon South, the new play development program for Nora’s Playhouse.

Come celebrate the last day of 12-week classes and spring at the Spring Ceramics Studio Sale & Open House. Funds raised will go towards materials and equipment for student use and visiting artists. The sale will take place in the ceramics studios located adjacent to the Art Barn. Cash and check are preferred, Venmo accepted.
