Sweet Elizabeth's

Purple Ombre Ruffles

2012-03-16T23:54:00.000-04:00

I LOVE the way this cake turned out. I am obsessed with ombre cakes (both inside and out) right now. I know it looks like a wedding cake, but it was actually for a 70th birthday. I bet it looked fantastic all lit up with candles.

Jack and Sally

2012-03-16T23:51:00.001-04:00

I was able to create this "Nightmare Before Christmas" cake for a Sweet 16. I guess this is her favorite movie...and why not? It's silly, and spooky, and romantic all rolled into one.

The top tier I made out of rice cereal. I don't typically do that, but I didn't trust any cake to hold that kind of shape without completely collapsing.

The topper is an edible image that I affixed onto gumpaste. I wish I knew how to cut a closer line to the characters without destroying the image. It seemed to stretch too much. I suppose it's always tricky the first time you try anything new.

Honey Please!

2012-02-27T20:52:00.000-05:00

A sweet beehive cake for a Mommy To Bee baby shower. I really loved how the bottom tier turned out with the graphic honeycomb design. I'd love to do an entire cake in that one day. Needless to say, this cake was a sweet one.

Aubree

2012-02-27T20:49:00.000-05:00

Aubree has the best Mom ever! Not only is she fabulous and fun, but she surprised her daughter with this darling cake on her 12th birthday. I think it turned out so sweet with the fluttering butterflies and scattered flowers.

LOVE

2012-02-27T20:46:00.000-05:00

My sweet new friend Sheri has a birthday on Valentine's day...so fun! She ordered this darling cake all decked out with colorful hearts. I was jealous letting it go out the door with all that chocolate ganache...and stuffed with fresh strawberries! YUM!

Cub Scout Cake

2012-02-27T20:42:00.000-05:00

I recently did a cake for the cub scout's Blue and Gold Banquet. It's always fun to do a sculpted cake and really try to pick out the details that will make it all the more real looking.

The wolf was challenging to freehand from buttercream. One day perhaps I'll splurge and get a Cricut Cake machine and be able to cut all sorts of fondant designs digitally.

Damask

2012-01-21T20:06:00.002-05:00

I've "oohed and aaaahed" over this pattern featured in Martha Stewart...and then almost fainted when I saw The Cakgirls (of Chicago) version with the pattern. So I was so excited when Whitney brought be a picture with this design on it.

I finally had a reason to buy the stencil! It is definitely tricky and a labor of love putting black frosting onto white fondant a hoping that the seal on the stencil was tight. I survived with very few mishaps.

I really love the crisp lines of the design, and the pop of color from the fresh flowers. Thanks Whitney for giving me an excuse to create this cake!

Rapunzel Fever

2012-01-21T20:00:00.001-05:00

I don't know about where you live, but here in Georgia the little girls are in love with Tangled. As you can see I tried to recreate a little bit of her castle.

I adore the detail to the tiled roof with the gold luster dust. It's hard to see in the pictures but the whole cake really sparkled.

Nostalgia

2012-01-21T19:58:00.001-05:00

A neighbor ordered this cake in for her husband. His car as a teenager was a VW bus and for the party everyone was transporting themselves pack to the 60's. We threw some golf clubs on top to nod to his current hobbies.

Toys into Cake

2012-01-21T19:54:00.001-05:00

I live very far away from all my family. So it was a special treat to be together for my nephew Andrew's first birthday. My sister (Andrew's Mom) came up with the idea to recreate one of his favorite toys. And she and her husband even helped make some of the animals. ;-)

Picnic Anyone?

2012-01-21T19:51:00.001-05:00

I created this cake a few summers ago for a 4th of July party. I loved the picnic tablecloth as a board, it added just the right backdrop for all the elements.

Happy Birthday Brady!

2012-01-21T19:48:00.001-05:00

My son Miles' little friend Brady turned 4! I loved making him this dinosaur cake. His face was priceless when he was examining...and naming...all the different dinosaurs I attempted to create.

From cakes to cookies...

2011-09-21T15:47:00.000-04:00

These are some cute sugar cookies I decorated for a Cub Scout Raingutter Regatta. I put their pack number on their boats. I just thought they looked darling....and delicious.

Happy Birthday Cailey

2011-09-21T15:43:00.000-04:00

I loved making this spunky cake for Cailey. She is so fantastic and I felt like her choice in cake fit her perfectly.

I decided to paint the zebra stripes onto the fondant rather than cut out fondant stripes in order to give it a more seemless effect. I think it turned out great.

Happy 4th of July

2011-09-21T15:34:00.000-04:00

Who can resist a cute gingham tablecloth with all of your favorite "All American" treats?!

I had so much fun creating all these foods out of cake. I think the hamburger turned out so darling. I wish I had an airbrush at home to give it a "baked" finish, but I love it anyways.

Tiffany's Dalmatian

2011-02-15T20:16:00.000-05:00

Tiffany turned 20. Tiffany loves dalmatians. Now, so do I.

Tiffany also loves Tiffanys. So I made her a little something else for the cake.

Happy Birthday!

Making turning 30 sweet...

2011-02-15T20:08:00.000-05:00

Simple and girly. Italian meringue buttercream with a little bling.

A non-traditional bow for someone who wanted something a little different.

I love the tiny twisted rope border. I finally got an extruder and am exploring all of it's talents.

A Birthday Cake Extravaganza!!!!

2011-02-02T20:29:00.000-05:00

When asked what E wanted for his birthday cake he quickly began to recite a list of his favorite things.....a tank, no a Georgia Bull Dogs hat, with Captain America, and I love Legos, and what about my bull dog Bella....
I love doing cakes like this. They become so personal and really, its all in the details.

There is Easton driving his tank with his co-captain Bella.

Captain America represented by his shield, the tank crushing the Legos below.

and last, but of course not least, something E never leaves the house without....a Georgia Bull Dogs hat. I love that boy and I hope he loved his cake.

Chili anyone?

At our church Halloween party they do a chili cook-off every year. At first when I offered to make a cake I figured I would do something with a Halloween theme. But then my husband suggested I make a crock pot of chili....I couldn't resist.

I thought perhaps I would do a stainless steel crock pot that looked just like mine, but then I remembered those old school crock pots. The ones with a band of yellow flowers around the bottom and I think the inner pot was even forest green.

Mine turned out a little more subdued in lavender.I think the plug was the detail that I loved the most.

I don't know if I would want to eat that chili....it looks a little strange.

Cheers

Happy Halloween. Just some simple cupcakes for the kids to win at our Halloween party. I made the tombstone and bat out of chocolate fondant. And my little secret is using vegetable oil to rub off the cornstarch. It also gives the fondant a nice little shine.

I added some sugar pearls that I tinted orange with food coloring. And of course they were jumbo cupcakes.

This week my projects included...

....a cute over sized cupcake to welcome people into a new home. I love their little bare feet. I even painted her toenails.

And an offset cake topped with a lavender bow to help Miss S celebrate turning thirty.

I love the stencil work on the side. It adds just the right little extra something.

A duo of diaper bags was what I decided we needed for our new mommies....well not the first time around. :) Miss L is on number 2 and miss N is on number 5....yep that's right. 5.

Hence the inspiration behind these jersey like onesie cookies. Cute huh.

A little two tiered monkey cake was the perfect accessory to our monkey themed baby shower for Angie. The monkey image matched perfectly with the bedding they chose.

Here is a sweet little order.
A mini cake with ten army starred supcakes. I love the little grenade on the boot. Such a fun project to spice up my friend's FRG dinner.

Cheers
