recent nail designs

I haven't posted about nails in a while, they've been featured in my outfit posts but here's how I created all of my recent nail designs.

Left to right -

1. You may have seen this on my instagram yesterday if you follow me (kimparslow). I saw this somewhere else on instagram, I tend to get all my nail inspiration off there now. It was pretty easy to recreate. I started with Models Own 'lilac' and painted the full nail. Once dry I carefully painted a triangle of black over the corners. Then with my Models Own nail art pen I drew semi circles all the way down the length of the triangle to create the pattern. Some blobbed a bit so I had to go back over adding a spot of the lilac on top.

2. These nails were also uploaded to my instagram but I didn't use them in any outfit posts. I saw Vicky from #Golly Gosh did some lovely ombre nails and I had to recreate them. Silly me didn't watch the video she posted, thinking I'd get the trick but they didn't come out as I hoped. So over the line where the dark blue met the light blue I put a layer of Models Own 'Silver Fox' gitter to blend them together.

3. You may have seen these floral nails in my outfit post the other day. Again I saw these on someone's instagram and it was so easy to do. I painted them with Eyeko's 'Rain' and then added black lines using my Models Own nail art pen. And you simply add spots of pink/red or any colour you like for the flowers which makes it look like cherry blossom.

4. Finally these nails were featured in my outfit posts the other day and a couple of people have asked me how I did them. Well these are how Vicky's came out and how my number 2 nails should've. After revisiting her blog post and watching the video I now realise to create perfect ombre nails you need to do this: firstly paint your nails one colour, I chose Models Own 'Grace Green' then paint just the tips solidly in another colour, I chose American Apparel 'Hunter'. Then pour a bit of the nail polish you used on the tips onto a magazine/card and get a sponge and lightly dab the colour over the line, trying to fade out as you work down the nail. Then once it's all dry you can paint a little bit back over the very tips of the nails to define the dark colour again. Voila!

This has to be my new favourite nail design now and so easy to do. I'm hoping to do some Spring colours tomorrow, maybe using 3 instead of 2 and then putting leopard print over the top?! We'll see, the possibilities are endless!

I won this gorgeous cat earring from Lucy's blog giveaway along with a lovely spike necklace and pair of scorpion earrings. Can't wait to wear it all :) The cat earring is so unusual and I'm glad my camera managed to capture it so well.
I bought this necklace from Urban Outfitters when I was in Brighton, it was on sale for £8. That was half price which I still find expensive! But it comes with three rings attached to the bottom which you can unhook and wear as rings and they all fit my super tiny fingers perfectly. So technically it's four pieces of jewellery in one :) bargain!
I studded this charity shop shirt find the other week with the intention of selling it in my blog shop. However as soon as I tried it on I fell in love with it so soz but I'm keeping it ;) I will try and do some more to sell though!

Love birds

My beautiful best friend Millie made these gorgeous birds a couple of weeks ago and when I stopped by her workshop I couldn't resist taking some photo's to show you all. Millie is a arty little thing, she is always drawing, painting, baking, crafting, sewing... the list is endless! And these cute little birds are her latest creation.

They come in lots of different positions and colours, and some even fly! The second photo shows one in the midst of being put onto a mobile, so clever :)

I love the patterns she's used and the gold feet are just gorgeous.

I was sent this gorgeous Isabella shirt collared dress by the lovely team at Love. I had previously bought two dresses from Love in their January sale, one of which I wore to the Very event recently. And the other I wore to TOWIB the other weekend, which I will blog soon.

I was thrilled when I was offered this beautiful dress. Love is a brand I've seen only in Topshop before and have never really thought about until I came across them again recently through reading other blogs. And now having owned two dresses I can hand on heart say they are fast becoming my favourite brand of dress.

The material used is very great quality and the fit of their dresses are perfect. Sizes differ a little between different styles but the one I wore to TOWIB fitted me like a dream.

They often have sales and promotions like '2 for £50' or '3 for £30' which is absolutely amazing, that works out as just £10 a dress people! Haha :) and even better they're currently offering free delivery. I don't know if you're like me but when you're already spending £30+ on an item, paying a lot for postage can really put me off. So if you haven't came across their site before take a look, although we warned you will spend money!

If you follow me on instagram (kimparslow) you may have seen this nail design. It was so so easy to do. I did a few squiggly lines with a black nail art pen and then dotted some pink nail polish on for the flowers and hey presto it looks like cherry blossom.

The title of this post is the recent song title by Gotye. It is played on the radio at work at least once every day and I love it. I thought it was an old song to start with and he's been compared to Sting a lot. But he happens to be a young man from Australia with an incredible voice :)

Looking at the list of clothing it seems I now only shop in charity shops?! Haha. To be fair the top, jeans and boots come to a grand total of £12.50. Not too shabby at all.

These photo's were taken in Brighton the other week. Although I froze to death it was lovely to just wander round aimlessly all day without a care in the world.

Someone asked in my last post of this coat if it was real and it's not :) It's originally from Debenhams in the early 80's.

DIY Tartan Shorts

This is a DIY I did a few weeks ago but have only just finished. This pair of shorts started out as a pair of trousers which I bought off Kate. Unfortunately they were too small for me, and I had every intention of making them into shorts anyway. So the first job was to obviously shorten them but also widen them.

I did this by creating two darts out of another fabric and stitching them into the seams on either side to create and extra inch both sides.

After shortening and hemming them they were ready to go but I felt like there was still something missing. So I opted for a bit of lace around the bottom like I'd previously done with my velvet shorts :)

They fit me now and look lovely on but financial needs are crying out at the moment (3 new tyres on a car I need to sell is killing my bank balance) So I think I've decided to sell them along with lots of other shorts I've been making. All of which will hopefully be up in my shop asap.

The trouble is with doing DIY's you just want to keep everything for yourself! x

A Valentines Treat

These gorgeous ladies are looking fierce in the new lookbook for RedRock Fashion.

RedRock are an online boutique selling vintage gems from the 70's to 90's. They rework vintage items bringing them up to date, breathing a new breath of life into them.

I hadn't heard of the site until last week when I was approached by the owner. I don't know how I couldn't of heard of them as they've been featured in numerous magazines including Company magazine, and celebs such as Paloma Faith, Peaches Geldof and Lauren Pope have sought after their unique designs.

Unfortunately I'm on a spending ban for the rest of the month otherwise I'd be all over this.

They're a great new site to add to anyone's favourites if this is your thing and you haven't heard of them before :)

Sweet Monday 062 - Brighton & Towib

Firstly the winner of my Very giveaway is Toni from Fashion Your Seatbelts! Congratulations sweetie, will be emailing you in a second. Thank you to everyone that entered, had 85 entires in total :)

Secondly I've spent the last few days in Brighton and then at Towib. Had a great time in Brighton, gutted to be back to reality now. Definitely need the weather to get warmer, it was so so cold down South, all of you that live there, I don't know how you do it! We had a tiny drop of snow but luckily it didn't come to anything. Spent most of our time on the pier or walking around the lanes. Won so many tacky toys in the arcade on the pier. We were on a roll! Ate two very good meals at Wagamama's and Nandos. The Nandos portion was crazily big compared to any other I've been too, so a massive thumbs up for that. Mmm. So big infact we enjoyed leftovers on the train home. Haha.

After coming back late Friday night it was then straight back to London to go to Towib. The event itself wasn't what I expected but it was lovely to see so many friendly faces and meet lots of new ones :)

I picked this shirt up in a Charity shop the other day. It's a size 18 but surprisingly fits me ok. I cut the shoulder pads out ;) and by tucking it into the skirt I don't think you could tell it was so big. It was only £3.50, another good charity shop buy. I'm now going to change the buttons on it, I picked up some really lovely gold ones so watch out for that DIY. I also got this belt from a charity shop for 60p the other week haha. I'm loving all the bargains at the moment. Although I'm not meant to be spending ANY money. oops!

My friend bought me this hat as an early Valentines present after I wore his in this post. It's from ASOS and is mens but I love the fit. I wore it in Sunday's post and a few people have asked about it so there you go.

Let's get away refers A to my new necklace that I can't stop wearing and B to the fact I'm off to Brighton on Thursday and can't bloody wait. Have been dying to get away and have randomly just booked a few days away :) also ties in very well for V day! Eee.

This necklace was a great find from eBay. I saw it on someone's blog (can't remember who, if it was you let me know!) and bought one immediately. I love it and it was only just over £1! And the first ring my friend got me from a market in London. Isn't it lovely? So unusual. Love getting random pieces like that :)

After having a god damn awful weekend with the weather I thought I'd post this outfit that I took on Thursday that showcases my new shoesies :D something that has cheered me up immensely!

I got given these gorgeous shoes at the Very event I attended the other week. Unfortunately I walked away with the wrong size but they were lovely enough to do a swap last week so I can now wear them YAY :)

♥ Glossybox Valentines Special ♥

I'm sure you're all sick of seeing this now but as I walked through the door from work on Monday I was greeted with this lovely surprise.. January's Glossybox! It's a Valentines limited edition box full of make up and body goodies and I'm over the moon to receive one! After seeing all the lovely Christmas boxes I was a little sad that I hadn't signed up after trying November's box, but now I have a very pretty box to review!

The lovely Glossybox sweet was a welcome surprise, after trying their cute cupcakes at the Motel event last year I knew they'd be tasty. I wasn't very impressed with Novembers box with the use of a free perfume sample, so when I opened this one I was much more impressed on first glance. Every product is a really good size and all of them I will definitely be using.

The nail varnish was of course the first to be tested, this is me after all ;) It's in a lovely Ruby colour which is always a colour every girl needs in their drawer. It retails at £6.95 which is more than what I'd normally pay for a polish but it's really good for both coverage and hard wearing. I've had it on for over a day now with no top coat and it hasn't chipped. I wouldn't say it was any better than my usual Models Own but it certainly isn't worse.

The next to be used was the Eyeko eye liner. It comes in lovely packaging and I used to use their liquid eyeliner regularly so I was intrigued to see how the pencil version sizes up. Although this pencil liner is in plum which wouldn't be something I'd usually pick, it's actually a really nice colour. Very dark, almost brown so it doesn't look overly purple on the eye at all. It's super soft and gets a pretty sharp line, and is a colour on trend for this season so I think I'll be giving this a go more often.

I'm looking forward to using the primer, I think it will come in handy as I've recently been bought a Bare Minerals one so I'd like to see how the Murad compares. I never used to wear primer which I know is really bad but since I have I've noticed my skin is a lot less dry and feels silky smooth throughout the day. It also really helps keep make up on I find.

The body wash and cleanser will of course come in handy too. I love getting samples of products like this, so much so I have a drawer full of them. Saves so much money buying body wash especially, and I love trying new ones. The cleanser may be trickier as I have really sensitive skin and have been using Liz Earle for a while, so it might be hard to shake me. However this one by Weleda is a two in one toner too and at this compact size it'll be perfect to take away with me when staying at friends houses.

All in all I love this months box, A because it was a surprise :) and B because it's full of more make up goodies than body ones. Can't wait to try the rest of the products out throughout February. Did you get this box? What are your thoughts?

Following on from the success of my last Sweet Monday post I thought I'd do the same this week and show you a few more blogs that have caught my attention recently.

01. First up is Amy from Hello Amy. I found Amy through instagram to begin with and then once I realised she had a blog I've been unable to keep away. She has a wardrobe of clothes I would love to own and her sneaker collection is pretty damn impressive. This lady knows how to dress.

02. Charlie from Charlestown Vintage, and her blog is exactly that, a wonderful world of all things vintage! I am always intrigued by Charlie's outfits and accessories, there's always something I would love to own myself.

03. I only came across Gee's blog Yours Sincerely, Gigi maybe a week or so a go but her cute nails and beautiful photographs made me become a follower immediately.

04. And lastly is my beloved best friend Millie from Strawberries and Squiggles who you've probably seen on my blog before. She hasn't long started her blog and it's full of yummy vegan recipes and really cute crafts and DIY's, she puts mine to shame!

I wore this outfit to the Very event on Friday, which I blogged about yesterday. I had had my eye on this print by Love for a while but at the time couldn't justify spending the money. Until I spotted it in their sale and I knew it was fate. I love the feather print, and the gorgeous Autumn colours.

I also have to say that I picked this bag up from a charity shop on Thursday for a cool £1! :) I love it, it's big enough to fit in all my essentials plus my dslr. So was perfect for the event.

Unfortunately the shoes featured here are no longer with us. Topshop is forever letting me down on quality and alas my Chelsea boots have died. I do wear them a lot, 3 days a week to work and most weekends in the day but still I only bought them in October so I'm less than impressed. The whole sole and heel was hanging off and the inside had all come loose, and the scuff marks around the bottom edges had started to form holes :'( I've since heard of someone elses plight with them, a very similar story so I will no longer be buying cheaply made tat sold at ridiculous prices. Goodbye Topshop! But hello River Island (can't see them online but they're still in the shops). On my way to the station I stopped off to chuck the Chelsea's in the bin and put my shiny new Allegra's on :) mm bliss! x

Very S/S 2012

Yesterday I had the privilege to travel down to London to view Very's Spring/Summer 2012 collection.

The items above are from Very's Love Label, featuring bright colours and delicate fabrics this collection is the epitome of Spring/Summer. Other favourites from Very this year include graphic tropical prints, ditsy florals and vibrant Hawaiian patterns.

Fearne Cotton's collection sticks with her signature vintage style heading towards the 1970's era, while Holly Willoughby's SS12 collection is glamorous encapsulating the Hollywood pin up look. Psychedelic prints inspire Diana Vickers collection with pop art graphics and retro colours.

Personally I'm not usually one for such a bright wardrobe but I do love soft fabrics, and dainty patterns so I was excited to see what Very have to offer this year. It was a great event and a great experience to get to know the team at Very better. I'd like to thank Natasha at Isobar Social for inviting me.

The day continued with plenty of cupcakes and canapes, and the opportunity to chat to lots of lovely bloggers. And also to speak to Suzi from StyleSuzi who blogs for Very. She talked us individually through the collection and took the time to get to know everyone. I also got to meet Becca, Kavita, Sharmin, Sophie and Jen who were all lovely and hope to meet them again soon.

And finally from the collection we each had the chance to take home a gift of our choice, and here's mine. I chose these gorgeous leopard print loafers as A leaopard print is always a fave of mine and B you can never have too many pairs of loafers. The print of the top caught my eye straight away and I'm glad I picked it, I can team it with leather shorts or a high waisted skirt and tights, or keep casual as a tunic with leggings. I'm sure both will be featured in an outfit post soon.

All that was left to do was say our goodbye's and stock up on sweets! They had an old school Woolworth's pick 'n' mix stand and we all went a bit mad, well Becca did ;) but I'm very grateful she packed my sweet bag high for the train home!

Oh and some of us may be featured on a video of the event which should be up on Very's blog soon so if it's not too embarrassing I may show you all haha.

I wore this outfit last week and love the mix of patterns and textures. Similar to my last post this dress probably wouldn't be something that would normally grab me. So I was a little hesitant before trying it on, but the shape and style suit my body shape perfectly. I teamed in with my classic black wedge boots and a comfy hat for a casual but dressy day.

I've spent the last day or so trying to change my blog layout and design, and I think it's finally starting to look somewhere near what I want it too. So bear with me as I work on it :) I'm awful with html so it's taking a while!

I'm off to London tomorrow for an event where I should hopefully be meeting Becca and Faye. But just looking out the window right now it is snowing pretty damn heavy :( fingers crossed it stops before tomorrow!

Firstly this is a bit of an overload on photo's I do apologise and secondly the lighting was against me with the damn sun keep popping out! But I shouldn't complain as I actually felt warm at the time in just a summery dress.

This dress is from Frank and Doll. It's by Mink Pink and is definitely not a dress I would normally chose. I'm not overly girly but I've got to say I think I may have fallen in love with it?! It fits me so well, pulling in at all the right areas and makes me look larger up top than I actually am. It's a rather thin fabric so will definitely be better in the Summer months but I think the leather jacket and jewellery rock it up for Winter :)

This skull necklace is amazing, it's so beautiful and it's understated in size adding a nice compliment to any outfit. Frank and Doll's jewellery is so hot right now! Have so much on my wish list for my birthday! x
