I'm still trying to document a lot of the paintings I've done over the years and here's one that I'll always treasure. When my Grandmother was moving in to an assisted living home, it was a stressful time. She mentioned that she wanted me to come help her decorate a small area outside of her room. Most of the ladies that lived there had placed a small table right at there door with some small tokens that made it feel a bit more warm. So I painted her this flower painting, framed it and gave her a small easel to place on her table.

After her death in 2005, my Mom gave me the painting back and I've hung it on a my walled and I named the piece after her. She always like to stroll through her flowers in her yard and knew so much about them.

My next ideas are to do a set of bear paintings.
Here's the photo I'm working off of. It was taken out at the Oklahoma City Zoo. They have very happy bears there. I think they are brother bears, Will & Wiley, not sure which one I'm painting.

I've had an idea of next painting project for some time but I said that I could not start it until I finished my then current project. You see, for me, the most exciting part of a painting is the idea of the painting. I'll flip through lots of ideas in my head. And I usually know the moment I see the right idea on my mental canvas.

So last night I realized that today I could actually see the completion of my painting of Satchel. That meant, I was free to start the next project. I was beyond happy. It felt like Christmas morning.

Here's the roughing out of my first sitting.

Lengthened the stripe of white on his brow - I clearly saw the proportions today. Spruced up the background and tweaked the eyes.

What to do with all this fabric...

When I worked as a interior design assistant in college, one of my responsibilities was to keep the upholstery fabric library current. This meant I had to add and remove any discontinued fabric swatches. Over a span of almost 3 years I kept quite a few of the disc. squares. The few weeks after college I had before I started my job I made a queen size duvet by quilting the squares together. I still use it today.

I have a pretty good pile of mixed fabrics that have been sitting around that need to be used. Some are pretty big quantities. I decided to put them to use this week when I found some free patterns online. Thus began this week's creative purge.

I've very pleased to say that I recycled some of my Pawpaw's Pointer Brand overalls for the lining on a couple of these. I have found so many uses for those - I'll keep several pair intact for sentimental purposes but I think he'd be glad they were put to use.

Added a bit more to the monkeys before the final details.

Thurs:

Snow came this morning.

Before I started the base layer of paint above, I shaped the monkeys with thin drafting tape just to get my spacing.

Tuesday/Wed.:

Working on background, waiting on the snow to arrive.

Started concepts on Saturday:

So there is the 3 canvas version, the 2 canvas squares and the larger single double monkey piece.

I selected the larger vertical concept, thought that it could turn out cute.
