Sweet Obsessions: Color-Block Sandals for Spring!

I saw the cuuuuutest pair of color block sandals at Target the other day. They were in camel and neon yellow and I wanted them so bad. But they were for kids. No way my size 8 feet would ever squeeze in a children's size. Boo. So I went home and searched online for adult versions, and turns out there are some cute ones for us too.

Who: My little brother/ loyal Sweetie Pie fan (okay, I threw that last part in there)

What: A plant/planter to set atop his new dresser:

I personally love Ikea for houseplants and planters. They have a nice selection at really great prices. I've also found that they are pretty durable-I'm not the best at taking care of houseplants, and the ones I buy from Ikea last longer than those bought elsewhere.

I picked out a few options, all from Ikea to match the modern look of the dresser:

A gray or silver look to the planter matches the knobs on the dresser. A small little tree will add a shot of fresh green color and life to the room.

Or, instead of a tree, he could always go with an orchid. I think they are versatile to any space. (Plus, he lives with his girlfriend, so it adds a feminine touch for her.)

Lastly, I think a terrarium would be another great option. These make great DIY projects!

Okay Kristen, I have to say your challenge has been the hardest so far. I searched and searched, using all my secret resources and sorcery and still couldn't find a good match. I fear I have failed you my dear. But to not leave you totally hanging, here are three that just may work.

Now, unfortunately these are all short dresses, but with Spring and summer coming I thought perhaps you would consider them. They all have short to mid length sleeves, and the tie at the waist. That was the detail that made it so hard to find something similar to the inspiration dress.

A Sweet Sixth Bday

My daughter Natalie turned six at the end of last month, and I am still in denial that I have a child of that age. Time keeps on slippin' into the future man. I'm not having the best time processing it all either. Just not ready to let go of baby and toddlerhood.

Big time six-year-old!

My husband brought out a pic of her from when she was a day old at the hospital. Way to really get a mom all misty-eyed.

These cupcakes were too cute to pass up at the grocery store.

But her major wish on the cake-front was this Belle one, so I did not let her down. Later we went to the theater to watch Beauty & The Beast; brought it full circle.

The girlies. And yes, when I can, I get them matching outfits. I can't help myself.

Umm, she is almost to my shoulders people.

Poms are my new fave to decorate with!

My mom brought the prettiest wrapping paper. I have since saved, ironed and framed the hummingbirds thankyouverymuch.

Well, we spent another weekend "unplugged". No internets for me. It makes me realize just how addicted to it I really am. And I find that ridiculous. And I think to myself "shame on you!". And then Monday morning I hurry out to the computer in the morning to devour whatever it is I "missed". Only to find that I didn't really miss much of anything, so what was all the fuss about? Hmm.

So what I did do a lot of this weekend is work out in the yard. It is warm here folks, unseasonably warm. I'm talking birds are out chirpin and bees are out buzzin. Has me dreaming of glorious outdoor spaces like the ones below. Enjoy.

Interior Infatuation: Sonoma Charmer

My post title totally sounded like a real estate ad, didn't it? So here I am again posting another charming little country home as my latest interior infatuation. I'm such a one-trick pony lately. Or to spin it positively I just know what I like.

Have you guys been watching the Bachelor? If not, a quick background: homeboy is from Sonoma, so they had some of the first dates there, and I swear Sonoma must have paid him for each time he said the town name. He pretty much said "This is my hometown of Sonoma, which is very near and dear to my heart" about 50 times in one episode. I'm all for hometown spirit, and Sonoma gives you plenty of reasons to love it, but come on!! The fifth grader inside me yelled at the screen "If you love it so much, why don't you marry it?!?" At least it would save him the trouble of weeding through loads of annoying women and one doomed-from-the start engagement.

Wait-what was the point of this post again? Oh yeah, this little charmer:

I love the background story to this home: the couple were living in Seattle 8 years ago, and wanting a change thought to themselves "Where do we want to end up in the future?" Their answer was Sonoma, so they decided "Why wait?" and set out hunting for a new home there. The one they found was this one, which was once a cookshack and pretty much in shambles. I love, love LOVE when someone has the vision and resources to spruce something up and just goes for it. The icing on the cake is that this home is located only a few blocks from downtown Sonoma, which is one of the most idyllic, quaint little town squares I have ever had the fortune of meandering. It is very near and dear to my heart... have I heard that somewhere before?

Work It Wednesday: Gap Cropped Denim Parka

I love a good ol' All-American denim jacket just like every other girl-next-door, but unfortunately they just do not look right on me. I've tried them because I desperately wanted one to work, but something about it just doesn't. The boxy shape and collar make me look more like the boy-next-door. Maybe if I had bigger boobs. Who knows. Now that I shared my denim jacket life story, let me share with you a new style of denim jacket I am (strangely?) crushing on: the cropped denim parka from Gap. I think this just may work on me folks. Here's why: the denim looks softer and slouchier ( no more box syndrome), and there is no collar (no more I-look-awful-in-collars syndrome). I'm heading to my local Gap tomorrow with my 40% off coupon in hand to see if it will work in practice and not just in theory. And since I like to jump the gun, here are three ways I would wear it if I had it:

Since Laura wants to find a cute pair of red flats that can go with a variety of outfits, I picked options that were in materials that would work day-to-night. If you go too casual (i.e. more of a sneaker or TOMS style) they wouldn't be as versatile. Here are my picks:

Monday Morning {P}Inspirations

We had a very productive weekend here at the house. Cleaned out the garage and put up a medicine cabinet in the bathroom. We went on a wild goose chase to get the medicine cabinet I wanted-4 stores later we finally got the last one that was in stock of what I wanted. Only to come home, open it gleefully and then find it broken. Boo. So we returned it and got a more boring one instead (you should know the extent of my crazy-the only thing different was the knob, but seriously a knob can make or break the whole darn thing!!). We also tried out a new policy that my husband instated-no technology (ie-internet, instagram, etc) on the weekends. We tried it out on Sunday and I must say it was a nice break-I may have cheated a little with instagram though. Baby steps. So from now on I won't be "around" on the weekends. And that feels really quite nice. How did your weekend shape up?

DIY Floral Antlers

Last year I found these antlers at an antique fair for $20. I'd been wanting a pair for many many moons and was happy to find such a great deal. I knew I wanted to give them a face-lift though. The tacky forest green velvet and dark wood-grain plaque weren't workin for me.

I put it on the back burner for awhile, but pondered on what I would do to spruce it up.

Then one day it clicked. I took inspiration from one of my favorite photographers, Kari Herer:

This has long been one of my favorite prints of hers.

Here is how I re-interpreted it for my own:

This could not have been easier. I simply covered the antlers with plastic bags (I used Target ones-they are nice and thick and never have holes!), taping them tightly around the base so no spray paint would get leak through. Next I spray painted the base plaque with several coats of white glossy spray paint.

I found a big giant flower at Joanne's for $5, cut off the stem with scissors, and hot glued it right on top of the green velvet. I was worried about it not adhering well, but so far so good!

A super simple project that costs next to nothing. Let me know if you try it out for yourself!

Creative Spark: Todd Oldham/Target Collab: Kid Made Modern

So beyond stoked for this Target collab to come May 20th: Kid Made Modern by Todd Oldham. It's basically the coolest craft supplies ever known to man. In my opinion, anyway. Move over kids, I want some of this for myself too!

If you get a chance, check out the video with Todd showcasing many of the products that are going to be available. The way he describes all his products is so cute. You can tell he is really proud. Heart ring-so adorable. Love the peach & gold, and pretty much the most fun you can get for $1.50.

Cropped chinos- great color, the only problem is there are no back pockets. And my ghetto booty can't handle no back pockets.

Polka dot messenger-I have fallen hard for this!!

Studded shoes-the cheaper version of my beloved Sam Edelman's.

Tufted dots sweater-the little fringe is so fun!

Hippo earrings- I don;t know what it is, but I have a thing for quirky little animal earrings. Betsey Johnson makes the best. Orange hippos? Sold!

How: Satchel style, preferably with separate compartments, no top zipper (for easier access), and can be worn on shoulder. Must look professional and classic, and work well in all seasons. Under $150.

Thanks for writing in Jessica! There were loads of options out there to weed through, and I think

I have found a few that will work well according to your specifications.

Since it needs to work well with a variety of outfits, as well as work across seasons, I suggest sticking with a basic black or brown/tan bag. These will work all year round and will go with virtually any outfit. And yes, I think you can mix a black bag with brown shoes, clothing/ vice-versa.
