My Easy, Under 10 Minute, Everyday Makeup Routine

I don't have a ton of time to get ready in the morning. I prefer to sleep in as long as humanly possible, so I have figured out the amount of time it takes to get my daughters and myself ready and out the door- and don't get up a minute sooner!

I'm at the age now, however, where I no longer feel comfortable leaving the house without "my face" on, as they say. That sounds creepy though, so let's not say that again. I won't leave without some makeup on. My whole process takes under ten minutes, really all it is is a few swipes and strokes and I am good to go!

Here is what my easy, ten minute everyday makeup routine consists of:

Step One: Foundation

After applying an SPF 20 facial moisturizer, I currently use Flower Beauty tinted moisturizer as my base. It blends in nice and easy right after I apply my spf moisturizer, as I have pretty dry skin. I've also used the Garnier BB Cream, Tarte Amazonian Clay Foundation( I prefer this in the winter-it is a bit heavy) and Maybelline FIT Foundation for this step in the past. I mix it up between all of these every once in awhile.

Step Two: Concealer

I have dark under eye circles that make me look tired no matter how much sleep I get. I currently use Almay Wake Up Underye Concealer, although I am looking for some good replacement suggestions. I apply it over foundation to help maintain better coverage, and I apply from the inner corner of my eye, all the way and a little past the outer corner, creating a half moon shape. Applying it to a broader area than just the dark under eye section helps to brighten up the entire eye area, and take the focus away from the problem spot. I also dot some on any pimples I have. Oh the joys of acne in your 30's.

Step Three: Powder

To set the foundation and concealer, and to soften my overall look, I lightly apply a pressed powder. I have been using Rimmel London Stay Matte for awhile now, and really love the soft, airbrushed effect it gives.

Step Four: Brows

My brows have been majoring thinning out lately, (another joy of my 30's) so I am filling them in daily with a pencil. I have my esthetician shape them for me, and then follow her guide on how to fill them in in between visits. I am currently using this Jane Iredale taupe brow pencil.

Step Four: Eyeshadow

My Naked 2 by Urban Decay eyeshadow palette is pretty much all I reach for! For a daytime look, I swipe "Foxy" onto my brow bone, then "Bootycall" on my lids. It pretty much just brightens my eyes up a bit, helping me look more awake and refreshed. If I have extra time, I will add a darker color like "YDK" or "Suspect" to contour the outer corners.

Step Five: Mascara

If I had to choose one item out of my entire routine that is an absolute must before leaving the house-it is mascara. If all else fails and you can't do much else, I say a dusting of powder, a swipe of mascara and a lip tint will at least get you looking more presentable! My current fave is Flower Beauty Extreme Measures Lengthening Mascara. I love the wand applicator, it really grabs all of your lashes and distributes the product evenly. My lashes look long and full after just one swipe.

Step Six: Bronzer

I am super pale, so I like to add a bit of bronzer to contour and warm my face up a bit. I use Physicians Formula Cashmere Wear Bronzer and lightly apply it with a big blush brush, swiping across my forehead, down the center of my nose, my chin and on my cheekbones.

Step Seven: Blush

This is something I will skip if I am being lazy or short on time. I do like to use Cover Girl's Cheekers Blush in "Pretty Peach" for a nice flush. To me, it goes on pink, so I feel like the name is a bit misleading. I generally stick to the apples of my cheeks-doing the whole smile and blush routine.

Step Eight: Lipstick

For an everyday look I tend to choose a lipstick or gloss that is similar to my original lipcolor, but with just a tad more oomph. My faves are Rimmel London's Moisture Renew in "Rose Blush", Revlon Super Lustrous lipstick in "Blushing Mauve" and Dr. Pepper Lipsmaker. Yep. It's the best, trust me.

Step Nine: GO!

Today we are moving along with our "Boho Americana" May closet, styling outfits 5-8. I chose the great gray maxi dress to play around with-check out the four looks I came up with!

Outfit 5: Throwing a sweatshirt over the dress turns it into a two-piece look! Add flip flops to add to the casual, chillin'-on-the-weekend feel.

Outfit 6: Keep it simple on a hot summer day by adding just a great wedge sandal and clean-lined tote!

Outfit 7: Wrap a scarf around your neck for added warmth-the pattern on the scarf and the rose gold sandals help give this look a boho feel.

Outfit 8: For a classic look, layer a crisp parka over the dress, a pair of wedges and an arm of simple gold bangles.

I want to re-iterate something here, because you may be thinking "well these are all pretty simple changes, should they really count as four different looks?" My goal with this series is to be very realistic. Most of us don't have the resources (or even the desire) to have closets full of brand new items on a monthly basis. I for example, may buy one new dress like this for the summer, and wear it in lots of subtlety different ways to make it feel fresh to me. It's about simple and easy ways to make your closet work for you! I hope you are enjoying this and finding it inspiring, because that is why I invest my time here on this blog-to share ideas and inspire!

Life Lately

Normally Friday's are Dress, Drink, Dine territory, but I don't know, I wasn't feeling it this week. Instead, I'm sharing a bit of what's happening behind the scenes and what I'm loving lately.

Okay, in instagram life, because that is where we all really live these days, amirite? Top row shows my adventures in Gatsby world. I decided to dress up in 20's inspired garb because, well I was bored. I made the headpiece out of a stretchy headband and a vintage bee pin I had lying around since I purchased it at the Alamada flea several years ago. Was happy to put that baby to use. In case you weren't aware, those mini cans of Sophia champagne are perfect for sneaking into a theater. Totes amps the whole theater experience up a notch. Overall I thought the movie was superb. A true feast for the eyes- and I didn't even see it in 3D! Ain't nobody got time for that. No but seriously, that is too advanced for my granny ways. Those darn 3D glasses give me watery eyes. Have you seen it? What did you think?

Moving on to Mother's Day festivities...I attended my last preschool Mother's Day Tea (sob) with my youngest Kara. Next week she graduates from preschool and it leaves me wondering-when did these kids decide to grow up on me? Kara turns five next week and her big birthday shindig is this weekend. The tea party was a western theme, so we donned our best denim, and looked pretty darn cute if I do say so myself. The fam treated me to some yummy treats over the weekend-and like the true selfless mother I am, I let the girls devour over half of what you see there. Lastly we had a fun dinner on the patio of one of my favorite bay area mexican restaurants, El Burro.

There have been a few things I have discovered this week that I feel are worthy of a share (really, it happens less often than it used to, so listen up!):

I don't know where I have been, but I just discovered the blog "How Sweet It Is". This girl crawled into the recesses of my brain and wrote out all my culinary desires in blog form. Also, I think we could totes be best friends IRL, speaking from a total stalker status. I mean, whipped feta? Crispy buffalo oven fries? CHOCOLATE MERLOT CUPCAKES??

These Charlotte Olympia zodiac flats blew my mind- of course they are nearly $700 a pop, what is up with my ridiculously expensive taste?

My long-lost sorority sisters (yeah, I was a sorority girl, don't judge) are planning a weekend getaway in July, and I found this article to come in very handy. Recipes for a Friday night through Sunday brunch (plus cocktails!), all packed in a cooler...great ideas here!

Marina and the Diamonds. This girl is everything. So obsessed with all her music right now. Plus she is from Greece, like me! (Okay, my maternal Great Grandparents were from there, so I'm like 1/4, but whatever). Are you on Spotify? I have her whole album, Electra Hearts, saved there, and eventually bought it on iTunes it's that good. Primadonna, Lies, Homewrecker, How to be a Heartbreaker, Fear and Loathing-all my faves. Peep her out.

My Style: White Pants at the Seashore

I realize I have been talking all month about these white bootcut pants form Old Navy, and now here you get to see them in action. I wore them on a little trip we took to Half Moon Bay to celebrate Mother's Day over the weekend. It has become a fun little family tradition to head over to the shore and spend the day doing whatever out little hearts desire. For me that means fish tacos at my favorite local restaurant, some sweet treats at the main street bakery, followed by a drive up to Pigeon Point Lighthouse (you can catch my vine for that here) plus a good frolic on the little beach nearby. For dinner we then headed to the Moss Beach Distillery, which legend says is haunted (it was on Unsolved Mysteries back in the day, anyone used to watch that? I loved that show!), although I have never caught a glimpse of the Blue Lady. It sits on a gorgeous cliff overlooking the ocean, and serves for some of the most stunning views in the area (I vined that too right here). There I always order a burger with garlic fries and a Lemon Drop. What can I say, I am a creature of habit! Like I mentioned previously, this pair of denim took me seamlessly through all of that-a true winner in my book!

I discarded all of this for a good frolic on the beach. You can't be encumbered with too much on the sand-it's just not natural!

As it turns out, no matter how much I love fashion, I fall back on the basics time and time again. I may buy a really cute pair of pumps, a trendy top or a big bold statement necklace, only to wear them a handful of times. My basics, however, get so much play that it makes more sense for me to focus on those items of my wardrobe, and give them the respect they deserve. I don't think simple or basic is boring though- no way! Adding some fun color in the mix is always a great way to spice things up a bit. I am so, so excited over this May closet you guys. I am really loving every piece so much. The styles, the colors, the prints-so much goodness here! Today I am featuring my new favorite pair of pants, the white bootcut denim! I wore this pair over the weekend to the beach and absolutely fell in love. They are so comfy! And of course white pants just scream "day at the coast", right? So perfect!

1. I love the look of a bright cobalt blue paired with crisp white and camel (or tan or cognac, whatever yo like to call it!) This is perfect for days when you want to looked pulled together-with minimal effort!

2. This is practically the exact outfit I wore over the weekend (you'll see those pics later in the week!), and it felt right for all of the events of the day. From strolling around the cute little shops on Main Street, to beach-combing to eating a nice dinner out!

3. Blue on blue is something I can't get enough of. This chambray layered with a blue scarf is a great example of how to mix blues!

4. To give you a break from all the blue though- this gray and white outfit is just as chic! I love how the white lace and stitching on the sweatshirt ties the look together with the white pants. Accessorize with gold for some shine!

How To Style A Black Maxi Skirt (4 Ways!)

A friend of mine recently asked me how to style a black maxi skirt. She had just purchased one from Splendid, which is a great brand for knit basics. They are cut well and made of the softest of cotton blends. Sometimes I find it hard to splurge on simple basics, (but I can get one for $15 at Target!), but when they are in such heavy rotation in your closet, it is worth it to buy a higher quality item.

A black maxi can really go with anything you please. It is just like a pair of great denim-you can get away with wearing it often, and pretty much anything you grab for on top will go! Here are a few of my favorite ways to style a black maxi skirt:

Vintage Tee:

I love the casual look of pairing a loose vintage tee with a black maxi. Of course vintage in this case doesn't have to be truly vintage-they sell all sorts of vintage inspired tees in stores now. It really just means a softer, looser fitting tee, maybe with some sort of graphic, like I used here, or even just a solid. I am particularly fond of vintage band tees. They are so fun. Pair it with some casual sandals for easy weekend wear.

Denim Top:

Denim on top is a no-fail way to go. I chose this great sleeveless chambray, but you could switch it out for a denim vest, denim jacket, long sleeve chambray-the possibilities are endless!

To get the look of a maxi dress, simply pair your skirt with the same color top! I used a tank here, and belted it to give definition at the waist. This is a great look for a summer evening out. A white, colored or striped tank is also a great way to go.

For another casual way to wear the skirt, a lace top adds texture and interest. There are so many great variations on a lace top out there right now-you can get them in a peplum shape, in a tank, ones with more structure, ones that are loose. Pick your fave and go!

You can use accessories to take it more in the direction you want-pair with items like pearl earrings, red lips and a structured bag for a classic look. I already posted a few goodies that I've had my eye on, and well, let's face it- the list goes on and on. If you follow me on instagram, you may have noticed I got a new car over the weekend! Squee! It's been nine years since I last bought a car, so it was long overdue. But, that means my shopping budget is now cut way back. Boo. It's ok though, because I have this here blog to dream and push all my pretty finds on you guys in hopes that perhaps you can buy and enjoy them. I feel like it is shopping by association-if you buy it, then it's a bit like I bought it too...right?! (Just roll with it).

My love for wine is no secret-my friends, family and all you loyal social media followers are well versed in my obsession. (There is nary a wine tasting trip or at-home wine and cheese spread that I don't instagram). At the end of a long day of mom duties relaxing with a nice glass of wine has become my favorite evening ritual. I have jokingly referred to it as my anxiety medicine, because honestly fellow moms, don't you feel a little wound up at the end of the day?

When the opportunity arose to sample a few bottles of "MommyJuice" wines I thought, um hilarious name, send them on over!

MommyJuice wines are owned and made by a mom in the Central California coast. The selection consists of one white and one red, which is convenient because it helps take the guesswork out of which varietal to pick up. Sometimes it is fun to take the time and make a very detailed selection, but then there are those times when you are racing through the store and don't have much time to think about it (i.e. the kids are fighting), and need to make a quick and easy choice. Another little convenience I can appreciate is the screw top. Why fumble around with a wine opener if you don't have to?

The white is 100% Chardonnay from grapes grown in Monterey, California. If you know and love Chards, they generally fall into two categories: warm and oaky or crisp and fresh (which are usually aged in a stainless barrel, not oak). To me, this white falls somewhere safely in the middle, making it a very versatile everyday wine. In warmer months I always turn to a chilled white wine.

The red is a mix consisting mainly of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. It has bold berry notes, and a mildly dry, yet still smooth finish. This is the perfect red to pair with a big juicy steak dinner, and I think Daddy would love this one too!

All in all, I think these are fun to try based on the theme, and their $10 or under price point makes it easy to do so. Gifting one to mom a would surely lead to some laughs, and an enjoyable time sharing the bottle! Cheers!

My friend and fellow mom Erin has a beautiful backyard, and she kindly let me use it as my backdrop for this little shoot. I'm loving the wine barrels that she uses as tables in her yard!

Can you believe it is already the merry ol' month of May!? Lots of fun things happen in May-Mother's Day, the end of the school year, graduations, more than likely a few birthday parties, baby and bridal showers and weddings. I really feel like May is that transition month into FUN! Summer is right around the corner my friends-get ready!

With that in mind, I find myself remembering how much I love summer style. It's funny how much you forget about it during the long winter months-as if it will never come again. I always tend to gravitate toward a boho vibe for summer, and this year, I'm also feeling very classic, all-american inspired. I'm calling it "Boho Americana" for those of you who like labels. I've been stocking up on a few pieces already, and they have made their way into this month's capsule wardrobe.

1. Tinley Road Knit Wrap Maxi Dress

I lived in a black maxi dress last summer, and I'm pretty sure the same will go this year. I look for a comfy knit, as well as a top that allows for a regular bra (spaghetti straps or strapless always end up getting passed up in my closet, so I have learned to bypass those unless for a special occasion.) This gray maxi fits those requirements, plus I love the wrap detailing in the front.

2. Old Navy Chambray Tab Sleeve Top

This easy pullover will work with so much. Tab sleeves are a fave of mine because of their versatility.

3. Old Navy Scarf Print Blouse (In my real closet)

I bought this top over the weekend. It looks so great in person, and it totally reminds me of something from Jcrew. Scarf prints are big right now!

4. Madewell Studio Sweater

A light and airy pinhole sweater like this one is a perfect transition piece. I love the look of one even as a swimsuit cover up on those windy days on the beach.

5. Alex and Ani Bangles

Simple, thin gold bangles are the perfect classic accessory.

6. Mossimo Premium Denim Shorts

These look like the ultimate pair of denim shorts. Just the right length and amount of distressing. Can't wait to find them and try them on in store!

I'm going against my regular skinnies this time and going for a bootcut style. I actually really love the look of a bootcut white pant. They have such a relaxed, California vibe to me.

Best Budget Makeup Organizer (aka Ikea's Best Kept Secret)

Within the past year I have become increasing interested in makeup, and have began to accumulate quite a few different products. I'm experimenting more with color, which makes buying lipstick so much more fun than when I used to just wear gloss. I've also discovered the wide world of beauty blogs and youtube videos, which, whoa, only add to my addiction of wanting to try and buy more products on a monthly basis.

My old system of just having one little makeup bag with my essentials has now been overgrown, and I found myself fumbling between two bags on my counter top trying to find what I need in the morning. It was a nightmare-such a mess! Something had to be done, so I began researching makeup organizers. I knew I wanted a counter top version with compartments, and I really loved all the acrylic versions out there, but whoa were they expensive! (The Beauty Box for example, which is my ultimate, but above budget).

Imagine my surprise when I stumbled upon an under $20 alternative at none other than Ikea! Why had I not come across this before?! Why haven't people been shouting out about this from the rooftops?? Yeah, I was that excited. I hightailed it the 1.5 hours to my local store and bought this baby, and I am pretty sure my life is forever changed.

These are my personal photos of how I organized my makeup last night using one "Godmorgon" system from Ikea. (They should def come up with a better name). As you can see, in the front I have put my various brushes, eyeliners, mascaras, and to the far right my tubes of foundation. This entire section lifts forward to reveal a storage space underneath, as seen in the photo on the right, in which my Naked 2 palette fits perfectly! (If you don't have this palette yet, what the heck are you waiting for, it's amazing?!)

To the back left of the case, are small square compartments that I have used for my lipsticks, but they also perfectly fit essie polish bottles. I'm talking perfectly. Then to the right of those are two more compartments where I have stashed my bronzers and blushers, and my eyeshadows.

Whew, so there you go-my secret, insider Ikea makeup holder. Best $20 I ever spent.

I should mention, that in my research I also happened upon another great deal. Muji drawers seem to be a cult classic among some of the youtube beauty babes. At $27 for a five drawer case you can't go wrong! I have ordered one for some of my overflow, as well as for what I anticipate to be buying in the future. Because once the beauty bug hits, it won't quit!

Every so often a color comes around that really tickles my fancy, and right now that happens to be periwinkle. I blogged about the color many, many moons ago (what was I thinking on that dress?), then kind of forgot about it. Recently it re-emerged on the scene (well, my scene anyway) although I can't remember exactly what it was that rekindled the spark. What I do know is that I now am seeing it everywhere, kind of like when you want a new car and you see that car like fifty times while out driving. You know what I'm talking bout right? Anyway, I really really want this bag in periwinkle, but that isn't happening on my budget, so I did what I do best and rounded up some fun finds for under $50!

So, this entire week we are now dealing with weather in the upper 90's here. The milder spring-like temps seem to have come and gone in the blink of an eye. I'm not a happy camper, because momma does not do well in the heat. Hopefully this is a short term thing and we get back to some pleasurable temps soon. How is the weather shaping up where you are? Have you been able to bust out the sandals yet?

Today I am creating outfits with the last of the April closet items, and they both happen to be patterned bottoms. Both the skirt and the pants are great ways to introduce a bit of pattern into your wardrobe- each is subtle yet fun! Patterns help add an extra layer of interest to your outfit, so don't be afraid to experiment with them. Here I have paired them all with solid tops, which makes it super easy to mix and match. If the print is colorful like the skirt, pick one of the colors to highlight in your top. If the print is black and white, like the pants, then pretty much anything can go up top!

I first saw these adorable mini Marc Jacobs Dinky watches at Nordstrom when I was in LA, and I think I let out an audible "Squeee!". Because really, there is nothing cuter than mini things- think kittens, tiny desserts, a small little cup of espresso...you name it. If it's mini, it's awesome.

I think one of these would make the perfect Mother's Day gift. They come in loads of different color options, and are priced to be a great little investment piece, ranging from $150-$200 each. You would more than likely be able to find a sale at one of the retailers that stocks them-so far I have seen them online at Nordstrom, Blommingdales, Shopbop, Neiman Marcus, Macy's and Saks.

Birds. They are funny little things. I wouldn't want one as a pet, that is for sure, but I do like watching them in nature. Only from a nice, safe distance though because I have had the misfortune of not only being pooped on the head by a bird, but also attacked by one that was none too thrilled I was walking up the path to my door one day. The nerve of that guy. I've also seen the Alfred Hitchock movie, so don't even get me started on that hot mess.

I do, however, (and go figure) love a good bird print. This tank from Old Navy had me at "Squaakk, hello!" (that's parrot talk, obvi). I instagrammed a photo of this baby and you guys were dying to know what it was- a top, a scarf, a dress?!? Lucky for us, it comes in all three forms, so choose whatever tickles your fancy! I chose the tank. It's gauzy and loose, which I love for spring and even more so in the summertime. It gets pretty hot around these parts. Speaking of- it got up to 88 degrees here yesterday! If this continues you are going to be seeing a lot more of my pasty legs sooner than I had anticipated. Yikes!

On another note, remember I was on the hunt for the perfect bright pinky-purple lipstick? I think I found it! I'm wearing it here in these pics, and it is L'Oreal's Colour Riche Caresse in 175, "Violet Chiffon". I am so obsessed with this formula, it goes on light and smooth like a gloss, but has the full coverage of lipstick and wears really well. Try it out, this color is hot for spring!

So, I may be making the shift from wine to Lemon Drops. Okay, okay, I won't ever turn my back on wine completely-I mean, come on- but hot dog I am loving me a Lemon Drop right now. So fresh and delicious. I think it is rubbing off on other areas of my life, because I can't get enough yellow lately (case in point: this dress). So I dedicate this Dress, Drink, Dine to my sunshiny friend the lemon! They make me happy when skies are gray.

My Style: Polka Dot Tee

I'm a T-shirt gal. I really am. 95% of the time I am wearing one, which is absolutely a plus of being a stay at home mom. I wear what I want! If I feel like getting dressed up in the morning-bam! Done. If I feel like barely making it out of the house in gym clothes-bam! Nailed it. More often than not I fall back on the happy in-between of those two, which is a cute tee and some denim.

Let me tell you a thing or two about slub knit. Slub knit is a lightweight knit with short horizontal lines running through it for texture, with a nice stretch and drape (thanks google). I am automatically drawn to this type of fabric when I see it because I know how well the shape holds up. I think I need to buy a few more of these tees in different colors-I know they will be my go-to this season!

I paired the orange with olive green pants because I am obsessed with the color right now. I think it makes for an unexpected pair, and I totally love it!
