I went and saw "What to Expect When You Are Expecting" over the weekend, and it was better than I thought it was going to be! I think my favorite dynamic of the whole movie was the group of fathers who got together every Saturday at the park with their kids, comparing notes from the trenches. Stories like "my baby fell off the changing table"...things they tell each other but not their wives.

When the movie was over my husband turns to me and says "I didn't tell you, but the other day Kara swallowed a cherry pit." Hahahaaa! I'm sure there are much worse things that he wouldn't dare confess to.

I think it is definitely to my, and mother's benefits everywhere, that our husbands don't tell us what happens with the kids when we aren't around. I already have enough to worry about from when I am there-and that is pretty much 99.9% of the time.

Go ahead and keep it to your buddy groups guys. Kthanks.

Monday Morning {P}Inspirations

Many of you are still enjoying an extra day off this Monday, as am I (in that my husband is home-so I count those as my "days off") so cheers to that! Here are a few quick inspirations for those of you checking in this morning!

Loving the whole set-up of this little vignette, styled to feature the amazing Cozamia art print. The crisp black paired with gilded accents makes a striking combo.

I find myself increasingly drawn to modern, potted gardens filled with succulents and agave's, especially when they are done on a large scale like this.

Something in the way she moves...one of my all time favorite songs, which I couldn't resist playing on repeat yesterday afternoon. Has anyone seen Love, the Cirque du Soleil Beatles tribute show in Vegas? It is beyond amazing-I've seen it twice and would see it again! One of the performances is to this song and it is breathtaking.

Did anyone try the sangria recipe I posted on Saturday? We whipped up a batch-although I failed to mention to my brother that only one serrano pepper was to be put in, so he added the whole bag of 5...I realized something was amiss when I could barely handle the heat! So I went back and fished them all out, but the damage was pretty much done. It sure looked pretty though! (You can catch a pic on my instas)

Lastly, I recreated a great Maria Menounos look on 100 Inspirations today. The look features my new obsession: dress shorts!

Well, it's official! The summer party has started! I can't believe Natalie is now done with her Kindergarten year and we have a full two months to do as we please. What do you all have planned to kick off the summer this weekend? We are blowing up the kiddie pool (keepin it classy), firing up the grill and having a good ol' fashioned bonfire tonight! Here are a few ideas for your own backyard fun!

Afternoon Sweet Treat: Garnier BB Cream

With all the hype behind bb creams I knew I had to try one out for myself. This Garnier BB Cream is at a very affordable $12 so I gave it a go. At first I wasn't sure if I liked the texture-it goes on a bit heavy. But after a few minutes of applying it seems to settle in and I no longer notice it. It does great at evening out skin tone as it implies, and I love that it has an spf 15 built right in (although I would prefer a higher one). Bottom line, it is perfect for mornings when you only want to spend a few moments on makeup-just swipe it on and go! I plan on using this all summer instead of foundation.

I haven't got much closer to Australia than sipping a Wallaby Darned and eating Aussie fries at Outback Steakhouse, but if ever a day comes I'll be sure to pack this outfit. Or not.

Thanks to mint green, pastels in general seem to be having a bit of a moment. My favorite way to wear them is in a very modern context. I love the juxtaposition between the sweet, girly pastels and the tougher, modern silhouettes.

Here are my quick tips on how to modernize your pastels:

1. Stay away from florals or ruffles-anything too frilly.

2. Pick crisp silhouettes like button-ups, pencil skirts, skinny jeans, blazers and structured satchels.

3. Pair your pastels with black or camel accents to ground them.

4. Accessorize with modern statement jewelry.

5. Swipe on some red lipstick as a bold counterpoint.

6. If you go for a print, pick stripes or geometric patterns.

7. Add a hint of leopard.

8. Color block it!

So we have these neighbors who are total hippies. I'm talking the official tie dye wearing, haven't shaved or cut their hair in who-knows-when kind (think Joaquin Phoenix when he went all faux-coo coo for that dumb mocumentary). It seems that they have recently formed a band, and they go out in the backyard and play trippy, psychedelic music. Very loudly. If it continues, I told my husband I am officially dubbing this the "Summer of Love". (Coincidentally, there is the perfect Rebecca Minkoff pouch for the occasion).

So on Sunday, the fam and I were in the backyard enjoying a little In N' Out for dinner when the music started. It went on for a good hour, and the girls were dancing around the grass barefoot like they were at Woodstock. Natalie, my 6 year old, turns to me and says "Man, I really like this music! They are really good! We should go knock on their door and let them know how much we are enjoying this!" I died at the cuteness and from anxiety all at once.

I decided to do my part by running inside and throwing this tie-dye scarf on. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em right? BTW, these photos were taken during the solar eclipse, which I was totally unaware of. I kept thinking "Hmm, it looks kinda weird out here", but was so consumed by the free backyard concert that I never realized why. I now believe that the hippies were having some kind of eclipse celebration, and that is why they played music non-stop for the exact hour it was happening. Good times.

Whew! What a whirlwind weekend. We had a wedding that my girls were flower girls in, a 4th birthday party for Kara, and the last few days of my mom down visiting. It was a great weekend, but now I am looking forward to things quieting down for the week-until Friday that is, which is Nat's last day of Kindergarten. Which means-it will officially be summer vacation starting Saturday. It's about to get all kinds of crazy around here then, folks.

Let's forget about that for now and get inspired for the week ahead, shall we? I really enjoy putting together these posts full of images and links that I love to kick-start our week!

This image of Rachel Zoe has me inspired to scour thrift stores for a vintage lace applique dress. So gorgeous! I wouldn't mind the Chanel bag either, but we all know that isn't happening!

Don't Give Up Now- So is it bad to say that I am already exhausted by the thought of summer vacation? I have a feeling this is going to be a long one and that I will be repeating this is my head from early on!

Loving this comfy little spot- striped slip-covered sofa, big fluffy peonies, French doors open to the yard beyond, a nice glass of white wine...pure Heaven if you ask me!

In other news, I totally conquered the making of the juices! With my mom down I had the confidence to give it a go and it was so easy. I feel really dumb now for thinking it would be such a production. I've made two types of juices-the "Perfect Morning Essential" and the "Serious Detox" recipes from this site. Both were very tasty, and I am by no means a vegetable person. I will probably post more about my adventures with my juice maker as I try more recipes.

I hope everyone had a lovely Mother's Day-either being celebrated or celebrating those wonderful ladies in your lives-or both! I have my mom down visiting this week, so I was happy to have had her with me yesterday to enjoy the day with. The girls and hubby spoiled me with breakfast and fun little gifts. It was a nice, relaxing day, which is all a tired momma can ask for!

This Monday I am feeling inspired by a summery boho vibe, as seen here in Sienna Miller's outfit ( I recreated it all for under $85 on 100 Inspirations!) and Aerin Lauder's inspiring office (I've always loved her interior design aesthetic). Loving the blues, reds and natural woven textures mixed together!

A few more inspirations for our week:

I want to start juicing, and this is a great comprehensive guide to starting! I plan on enlisting my mom's help while she is here, because for some reason I find juicing rather intimidating. Why is that?? Any juicers out there care to share some tips?

I would love to make this Dijon Chicken Linguine recipe for dinner one night this week.

A lemon, rosemary and vanilla air freshener you can make at home- I want my house to smell like this all summer long!
