Every time I cruise my Pinterest boards,

I keep seeing my GET ORGANIZED board and

say 'I gotta do that...'

Nice and organized. Sweet.

Finally, this one can be scratched off my

to-do list ;-)

WE {daughter and I} made the change from upper cabinet to a spice drawer. It was, "Mama, I can't tell what's in this cabinet!" I'll admit putting spice containers in front of each other was not a good idea. I'm mostly a salt n' pepper gal. But I'm not super big on lots of spices like she is, which justifies my procrastination. I'm even trying to alphabetize them, but jar sizes kind of makes impossible.

Spices are now neatly tucked away in an unused drawer in my pine hutch cabinet...

(that formerly held loads of old bills and bank statements, old candles and plates.)

It also has a small built in spice rack on the main door, but the wood slats kind of hides the names of the spices. But, it's definitely an improvement.

Now I have to figure out what to put in my

NEW empty upper cabinet... a new spot for

the paper towels, or move the glasses closer to

the refrigerator's ice maker?

Decisions, decisions.

Pot Rack Back Porch Lighting

Pot Rack Back Porch Lighting

I found this great pot rack this past fall at
a local arts and crafts festival, with this
specific purpose in mind... holding candles
on the back porch. We didn't wire the middle of the porch ceiling for lighting.

These came in this oval shape, but also in
round, which in retrospect, I wish I had gotten. I had to cut some wire to go over the bars to hold the candle jars. Had I gotten the round shape, I would have been able to use an old glass microwave plate. I'm always seeing them in the GW, SA, and thrift shops.

I placed several old pickle and small canning jars, and a couple of old candle jars, on the wire and filled them with tea light candles.

The clear glass gives off a warm glow

against my freshly painted white ceiling.

For a different effect, colored tumbler glasses could be used in pastels, and

reds and greens would be pretty for Christmas.

I just love the gentle glow, and psst - I'm
only using four tea lights! A quick stop
by the $ store for a whole bag will
ensure the perfect ambiance for a Friday night dinner on the back porch!

Did I mention I painted the back porch?
A crisp, bright white?

Spring Easter Double Sided Banner

Spring Easter Double Sided Banner

Better late than never, right? Where have I been?

Well, I'll get to that in a moment...

Here's a quick and easy banner you can make

to suit any occasion by using wooden letters and

the ever so versatile and indispensable burlap and twine. If you can't find the color of burlap you want for your project, then you can certainly SPRAY PAINT IT! This is a piece of

scrap burlap I used last July 4th. I spray painted the oyster colored burlap with periwinkle blue.

It will take a two or three coats to get your desired color depth, as it does soak up a little.

Pretty straight forward and simple process...

your triangles size will depend on your

letter size - I had intended to make the banner

to use ON the burlap wreath, but as you can see, I misjudged the letter size. So I just propped my wooden egg bunny in the wreath, and tacked the banner to the shelf. I didn't even paint the

letters, just hot glued them to both sides of the six burlap triangles, which blends

nicely with the rustic burlap and twine.

So, the weekend BEFORE Easter weekend,

I got super sick, then a bad sinus infection

that week which for me, triggers migraines

EVERY SINGLE DAY, plus a stomach bug.

I've also aggravated my right hand/arm ulnar nerve. So, I basically missed EVERYTHING I had planned for Easter crafting, blogging, and cooking. But it's still Spring, so I'll leave this banner up for a while.

Good Morning! I thought y'all might enjoy

some photos of the blooms in our yard.

This azalea bush decided to pop out in full bloom this year. The classic "Barbie" pink is my hubby's favorite.

I really don't have a favorite, but I love this pale

pink with the dark pink specks...

and of course the salmon color is lovely!

The white azaleas are always late to bloom for some reason.

And my camelias keep churning out beauties like this one.

A Bradford pear tree...

Half of my Paulownia tree died, but this half is so pretty with it's lavender blooms...

I'll soon have some more seed pods to play with.

And Prince certainly enjoyed the afternoon doing what he does best... lazing around.

Twine Tied Burlap Wreath

Good Monday Morning, Y'all!

I hope everyone had a great St. Patty's Day.

Here is a burlap wreath I've been meaning to make, so when it clouded up yesterday, I dug out

my metal wreath base, burlap, and TWINE

and got right down to business.

I wanted to create a basic wreath that I can

add seasonal / whimsical attachments to.

There are so many burlap wreaths out there in Blogland and so many ways of making them. When I saw Amanda Brown's wreath base, (formerly known as My Heart's Desire), I marked it down on my To Make List... Yes, it's a LONG list that I'm not sure I'll ever get around to making ALL that I have either bookmarked or PINNED.

Here is Amanda Brown's Burlap Wreath

For my wreath, I chose to use twine to

attach the burlap (some folks use floral wire).

I think the twine adds a bit more of a "country" feel to it. I also think using colored ribbon

would be a nice change up.

Basically, lay out your burlap and cut

roughly 5 inch strips. I didn't measure

but I used at least 3/4 yard, as I

went around my metal wire base

with three rows of burlap. You'll need

several strips of twine. I cut mine about

4 - 5 inches long - you can go back and

snip off if you don't want yours to show

as much as mine does.

I wanted by burlap "puffs" to be larger and more loose than my Bubble Burlap Wreath. So, using the metal cross bars as my guide, I tied the twine cross wise to eliminate any loose up and down sliding. As I gathered the burlap, I tied onto the 1st and 2nd bars, 2nd and 3rd, and 3rd and 4th.

And I only tied on the burlap once in between the cross bar sections, to help keep the puffiness.

This was a quick and easy wreath to make!

I haven't decided if I'm going to add a

burlap bow or not, being I want to be seasonal.

I didn't get a chance to add the twine shamrock

I made as the paint was not drying fast enough,

and I surely didn't want to get green paint on my wreath... but here is a photo of it for next year.

Now it's time for me to pull out all the stops and get into EASTER decorating!

What a Crock and Fiber Optics Goes Country

I found this beautiful crock some time back

and just haven't had time to blog about it.

I was shocked to find one

WITH THE HANDLE IN TACT

and with a SPOUT! And ON SALE ta-boot!

but, sadly, no lid. Talk about

being tickled pink as my camellias.

We had such a beautiful afternoon that I actually got to take some pics outdoors.

Does anyone have any idea what this type

of crock with a spout was used for?

My mind conjures up ideas of

pouring fresh milk, or buttermilk...

You can even see the number 4 on the back.

Fresh flowers always look beautiful indoors,

I just wish these flowers had a scent...

And City comes to the Country...

we're FINALLY getting Fiber Optic Cable.

Now I'M the one that's all giddy ;-)

They drug our lines today!

We've been down the "dish" road

before and got so sick them

jacking up the prices and showing

the same things, over and over.

So we ditched the dish all together.

See, that's how we started watching

Downton Abbey... on PBS... via the ol' timey

antenna... and Antiques Road Show...

and Rick Steves' traveling shows.

Can't wait til we get hooked up and online.

I saw a collection of home made carrots

while surfing the net at Carolyn's Homework

Here's Carolyn's carrots made with yarn - aren't they cute?

I knew I had just the right thing in my

trash stash to make some with...

candelabra light bulbs were used for this project

I have to admit I had a hard time deciding if

I wanted to paint them or not. I love my

Twine Pears in the natural color.

So I snapped a pic for those of you whose

decor is in the more neutral tones so that

should you decide to make some for yourself,

you can see them both natural and painted.

I picked up this guy little guy last year at WalMart in the gardening department. I love how he has his arms crossed over his tummy, like he's simply giddy over finding some goodies to nibble on ;-)

Here they are hanging from my peg rack.

Country Girl At Home's Pinned It, Made it

Signs of Spring... while a few of my paint projects are drying... I have been wanting to post a picture of this plant, I don't really know what it is... some type of ground clover? All I know is it's pretty, is frost resistant, grows in the dead of {Southern} winter, and the little flowers act like Morning Glorys. They are just now beginning to close so I snapped this quick pic. It's growing at the base of one of my Dogwood trees. It doesn't seem to be hurting anything, so I live and let live.

Does anyone have a clue as to what it is?

A Vintage 1990s Bunny

Here is a very loved craft I made

in the very early 1990s,

when I made the decision

to stay home with my kids.

She has been drug around the house

many a time by my daughter,

then a time as country decor,

and now by my granddaughter!

The pattern called for the body to be stuffed

(now she's a bit frumpy) and an apron

with several pockets for her "babies"...

as you can see I only made it to three.

and matching pantaloons.

She needs a bit of mending around the nose area

I was in a hurry to take pictures, my little

"assistant" wanted to help me with prop work

A Twine Bunny and a Fire

It's cold here in Georgia today!

Time for a fire ;-)

I decided to make a Twine Wrapped

Toilet Paper Roll Bunny... but I think

these would make better napkin rings.

I love wrapping things with twine, but

not too sure about this particular project.

I chose to use twine for the tail instead of a cotton ball, and I twisted and tied a few strands for the whiskers and nose.

Hmm, this one may have to go into

the "chicken scratch" pile...

But I'm stayin' warm by the fire!

Toilet Paper Roll Bunny

A little something for the kids to do...

{and that goes for kids of ALL ages ;-)

Make a Toilet Paper Roll Bunny!

As long as they can handle a hot glue gun...

During my cereal box bead rolling,

I had an epiphany {of sorts} and started thinking

up all kinds of things to make with these rolls, and this is one of them. It's simple enough for the kids to do for Easter crafts, and cute

enough for Big Kids to make for the mantel.

After I "master" the face / ear formation,

I'll make more and paint them. This is

my first one, my "proto-type."

Wanna make some?

Grab a toilet or paper towel roll,

a cotton ball

scissors

short bits of raffia

a hot glue gun

Press your roll flat and cut two 1/2 " strips.

Cut another to make the "feet."

Round out one the now cut pieces.

Carefully make an indention with your finger

for the downward area of the ears.

(Refer to the photo.)

At this point, the "face" will look

round, like a cat face. Set aside.

Shape the other strip into a "tear drop."

This is the "body". Insert the body into the face. Press the roundness of the face up onto the sides of the body, also press it flat at the bottom,

to make it more square. After shaping the cardboard, loosen your grip and

dab the sides and bottom with hot glue, then

press firmly back into place.

From the extra strip, cut triangle shaped

"feet". This will help with stability.

Criss-cross them near the back (see above)

then dab glue on. Set your bunny body down so that the "chin" sets flat on the surface,

and the "rear" is up a bit.

Glue on a piece of the cotton ball for

the tail. Cut small strips of raffia

for the "whiskers" - dab on a bit of glue and

add a small bit of cotton for the nose.

Have fun with your kids and grandkids making these cuties for Easter! I'd love to see yours,

Hi All! Now that Valentine's Day is

over, I can turn my attentions back to

some other projects setting on the

back burner... such as these little beauties.

I came across a really neat tutorial over at

Pages From Home - here is her bowl of "pears".

UP CYCLE projects ever???

Light bulbs, folks, light bulbs... DING!

I did add a little twist of my own, by adding

a "leaf" cut from a toilet paper roll.

Cut it on the curve of the roll for a more natural look.

The "stems" were clipped from my

Yellow Forsythia Bush.

LOVE Plaque and Thrifted Beads {Mantel}

Here is my make-do "mantel"... a small shelf

in my dining room. If you've followed my blog

for long, then you know that

I really do regret having put our flatscreen TV above the fireplace in our Living Room, even though we have a long and deep shelf above the sofa. It's still not a "mantel" and I just can't dress it up like a ... mantel. But, I'm seeing all sorts of

terrific wide and deep shelves with different styles of lovely brackets, even painted metal ones, that stir up mantel ideas in my head... but until then...

Here are a couple of lovely thrifted finds...

A beautiful plaque from a yard sale and a few bead sprays from the GW. The 'love birds' were my mother's, and the red vase
(I have a matching pair) are from a bargain store.

Baked Ranch Chicken Salad Wraps

I found this DELICIOUS recipe

on someone's blog back in December,

and more recently on Pinterest.

Please let me know if this is YOUR

recipe, so I may give you proper credit.

If you're a RANCH lover, you gotta try this!

Two cans white chicken breast (drained)

(or cooked and shredded fresh chicken)

Two cans refrigerated cresent rolls

1 package of Cream Cheese, room temp

1 packet powdered Ranch dressing mix

1 cup (or more) Shredded Cheddar Cheese

Mix together and spoon evenly onto

cresents, roll up, bake according to package.

Detergent Cap Pin Cushion

We temporarily interrupt bead rolling for this

quick and simple little project.

See, I have a little bit of ADD / ADHD /

tired-of-doing-the-same-thing-itis, and

I simply have to get up and do something else...

Supplies:

Laundry detergent cap

Rice or beans (*for bottom weight)

A hand full of cotton balls

Felt

Rubber Band

Hot glue gun

Scissors

Lace, rick rack, ribbon, etc.

Pompom or Button (for topping)

To Simplify, HERE is the video I found,

but it's not rocket science, just fun stuff...

Fill the cap 2/3 up with weight;

Top with a handful of cotton balls;

Grab a piece of felt and "dome" it over the cotton;

Wrap a rubber band around the cap top at the ridges to hold in place;

Glue the felt in place;

*Remove the rubber band

Add your lace, rick rack, etc.

Top with pompom, botton, etc.

TADA

*Note #1 the video does not use anything

for weight - I added that in my description

*Note #2 the video does not remove their

rubber band; history has taught me that

they will eventually dry out and break;

therefore I hot glued my felt to the cap,

only using the rubber band to help hold

everything in place, then I removed it.

I found this really great heart craft over at

Restyled Junk. She cut up a

Christmas bead garland, which I have

the exact same garland but didn't have

the "heart" to cut it up!

You can find her tutorial HERE.

However, I have this box of paper and

cereal box beads that I had

intended to make jewelry with, but...

So when I saw her crafted heart

I knew what to do with them.

Yes, my way is a bit time more consuming

because first you have to cut and roll

the cereal box beads and paint them.

But that doesn't bother a serious

recycling / up cycling crafter ;-)

One down, five more to go... plus, they'll look great on my Christmas tree!

Puffy Felt and Paper Hearts

TUTORIAL: Puffy Felt and Paper Hearts

I don't usually decorate for Valentine's Day but

after see all the sweet and cute crafts floating around Blogland, I had a hankering to create something. I want to make a bunting banner, so until I can decide exactly how I want to make one, this project came to mind, being I did not have to go out and buy anything - I used

items that I had on hand... FREE is always great!

Supplies:

Craft felt

Lace

Craft paper (I used a brown paper bag)

Heart Filler ( I used dryer sheets)

Container (I used an old utensil holder)

Container Filler (I used acorns)

Small dowels (I used long wooden scewers)

Scissors

Hot glue gun and extra sticks

For heart template, trace a cookie cutter, one from a book, or you can free-hand cut one from a folded piece of paper.

My old utensil holder has been badly in need of painting, since it was heavily used and the stain was rubbed off in several places and the rim has a knick or two. The season makes it a perfect candidate for a "red" paint job. The heart is open so I placed a square of coordinating material, backed by a piece of paper, to hold in the filling of acorns. Set aside.

I chose to sandwich the lace in between the

red felt hearts using hot glue, leaving a small

opening at the bottom to insert the scewer.

{yep, next time I make these I will SEW them} To make the curve you'll need to pucker the lace - be sure to pucker the lace in the same

places when gluing (or sewing) the opposite side.

Run a line of glue around the top of the

lace and put on the top heart,

being sure to leave an opening for your filling.

Repeat the process for your paper hearts,

except I recommend using regular white craft glue. (my hot glue dried before I was able

to line up the hearts and put in the filling)

I also chose to put smaller red felt hearts

on top of the paper. Decorate as you wish.

Hubby brought home some

Valentine candy and M&M's so

I sprinkled them around my new

Willow House candle holders

that I bought before Christmas.

I also had some left over gift bag stuffing paper,

so I placed that on top of the acorns.

Not too bad for FREE!

Blue Ridge Cheese Box and a New {Old} Plate

Here are a couple of new finds I came across a few weeks ago. A cheese box and a white stoneware plate.

The cheese box is in very good condition.

The white stoneware plate is unmarked.

I've been collecting this pattern for a long time, so when I come across pieces that don't have chips,

I just have to get them.

And the beautiful camillas speak for themselves - sheer beauty.

Hearts n' Dolls

A return to country decorating...
This small grouping is in my dining room.
{a doll lover can never have too many}

I have always had a soft spot for dolls of all sorts
and have several porcelains, (some of them that I will be posting were my daughter's) as well as a
few country dolls, and some miniatures for my dollhouse, which is a work in progress.

The two "love" birds were my mother's, and
and my MIL gave me the small glass bluebird.
It is said that Bluebirds bring you happiness.
The plaque has always been very special to me.

Thrifted Tapestry Sampler Table Runner

Hi folks! Just a quick post to show you a lovely tapestry table runner made in the sampler style.

I paid a whopping $2 for it last fall.

I think it's to too pretty to

set items on top of it, so I'm not sure how I'm going to display it yet.

Maybe I can talk my hubby into making a "frame" and hang in on the wall?

I love all the little details and the verse by Helen.

I'm finally feeling up to doing some

re-decorating, now that Christmas is behind us

and all the 'trimmings' are packed away.

Time to wipe everything down and pull out my stoneware pitchers and bowls, pewter, birdhouses and pictures... do some reshuffling, rearranging, just to mix it up a bit from years past, you know, little tweaks here and there...

Here's a super easy project that produces a wonderful pop of COLOR!

Supplies:

Wreath form

(I used a 10" dollar store foam)

Newspaper

Potpourri in your choice of color

(I used one 4 oz. bag from the dollar store)

White craft glue

Hot glue gun and extra sticks

Wreath hanger

(I used an extra large gym clip)

Grab an old wreath, wrap it in newspaper,

{and preferably, spray paint it the main color of your potpourri} I'm just now getting over an ugly stomach bug with migraines and did NOT want to smell paint...

Spread out some newspaper on your work surface. Raise up your wreath - I placed mine on top of two jelly jars - you're going to be

using a lot of glue and it will stick to your

work surface if you don't...

Open your potpourri and remove any heavy pieces. Basically, spread the white glue on the entire top surface of the wreath and sprinkle around your potpourri, placing larger sized pieces in your desired locations.
Let dry overnight.

You'll need your hot glue gun and sticks

for the out side and inner areas.

These long pieces are great because they cover

a large area. I used a lot of these on the outside.

The smaller pieces can be used to cover any

obvious holes and gaps.

I plan to hang this in my kitchen window,

where the sun can warm it and scent the entire room!
