Remember the rumors that Kevin Rose was working on an instant messaging startup? Well it just went live. It’s called Pownce. The website refers to it as:

a way to send messages, files, links, and events to your friends. You’ll create a network of the people you know and then you can share stuff with all of them, just a few of them, or even just one other person really fast.

It’s currently in private beta, and as the website further explains, right now there are four things you can send: messages, links, files, and events. There is also a downloadable adobe application for OSX and Windows. that will allow you to do the same thing as the website You can, of course, submit your email address to get an invite code later, but this Twitter for files, links, events, and messages from Leah Culver, Kevin Rose, Daniel Burka, and Shawn Allen looks like a promising and addicting startup. Here’s a screenshot of the application, which you can download even if you do not have an account.

Edit:

Here’s another one that I took once I downloaded the app.

Woot! Finally finished my final exams! I had been taking them all last week, as well as this week.

In other news, I bought several books to start reading up on cocoa and mac development, and should be starting up on an application soon.

I think the iPhone craze is finally starting to get to me. The entire blogosphere is lighting up with hype and expectation, even more so that Walt Mossberg’s review has come out saying that despite some faults, the “iPhone is a whole new experience and a pleasure to use.” Damn you Walt Mossberg!!! Apple has also posted numerous resources on their website on how to prepare for your iPhone and what to do once you bring home your iPhone, mainly activate it (which is done at home via iTunes!) and also syncing it with your contacts, calendar, music, movies, and more. If you haven’t checked out Fake Steve Jobs‘ blog you should definitely do so, as it’s filled with plenty of hilarious comments on all the hype.

Last but not least, screenshots from OSX Leopard’s iCal leaked out and here are some of the highlights:

Take a look at this beautiful HUD window:

I wanted to do another Mac-oriented post, but since I had posted a list of Mac apps already, I felt it would be too repetitive for you guys to have to read another one.

Pixelmator

This app was featured on Digg a few days ago, and woah does it look good. The user interface is created almost entirely out of HUD iLife type boxes, and although I use Photoshop for most of my editing, Photoshop’s interface is a damn pain to use and it uses much more processing power on my Macbook than it should.

Pixelmator sets out to fix my beefs with Photoshop. It is an easy-to-use photo editor with a delightful interface, layer support(with surprisingly advanced tools), and the best feature is that it uses the GPU in my computer to run (YES!). This frees up my processor to do other things, like run Firefox and Final Cut Pro. It also features a fullscreen mode that lets you concentrate on editing the photo, not finding the right floating menu a.k.a. the Photoshop “experience”.

Delicious Library

You’ve probably heard of this app already, and that’s why I’m not going to try and introduce it to you. I wanted to point out just how much money the Delicious Monster team is making from their product. Not only are they drawing in legal tender from selling the application, but if you choose to view any item on Amazon.com, you are taken to a referral link. If you buy something off of Amazon.com after following the link, the Delicious Monster team gets a cut.

Also, be on the lookout for Delicious Library 2, which is supposed to have much more functionality once you actually file all your movies, games, books, and music. For example, iTunes music is supposedly automatically indexed from iTunes. Here are a few secrets from Scott Stevenson, the writer of Theocacao, who recently got a look at the new app. Summary of the quote after the jump.

Delicious Library 2 will allow you to automatically export your library to the web, meaning instead of just you looking at your shelves, everyone else on the web can see them, and the contents is automatically updated as you go. Now that’s just the what of the feature. It’s the how that’s really going to please. This is true Delicious-flavored stuff ?? nothing less than the exceptional.

The other gap from Delicious Library 1 was the iTunes library had no presence on the shelves, so you were only seeing a portion of your total media selection. Delicious Library 2 has iTunes integration, and does it without trying to be an iTunes replacement. For me, this helps me discover music I forgot I had.

Summarizing this and other websites:

Web Export/Sharing

iTunes Integration

Auto-Update

Built on Leopard

I am really looking forward to this app being released in October.

A WYSIWYG Editor for the Mac

I get asked about this every time one of my friends switches over to an Apple computer. I don’t want to recommend Dreamweaver for obvious reasons, and my friends are beyond RapidWeaver and iWeb. There is no WYSIWYG editor with a split code view. Schoolhouse developer Logan Collins posted this screenshot of a Cocoa application he began to write back in December. While I prefer working in TextMate or Coda, my friends can only hope.

An Alternative to Word

Another sometimes-problematic application on OSX is Microsoft Word. It runs fine, but has a clunky interface with lots of floating menus, and can take a little bit too long to start up. If you want to try another text editor, take a look at Bean.
