Swiftmailer 4.1.6 has been released. It makes serialized messages much smaller, which is great when you store messages in a spool.

Swiftmailer 4.1.4 released

Swiftmailer 4.1.4 has just been released.

This release contains a fix for an annoying bug when you want to send many emails with attachements. It also contains a new MemorySpool class. This new class is used by Symfony 2.1 to allow sending emails after the page has been sent to the user.

Swiftmailer 4.1.3 has just been released. This release contains bug and documentation fixes.

Using Swiftmailer with TLS now works as expected (thanks to the STARTTLS addition).

New Swiftmailer bug tracker

As of today, Swiftmailer is using Github to manage issues.

All opened tickets in the old system (Lighthouse) have been migrated to Github. The new ticket contain the reference to the original ticket, the original date, and the original reporter:

As we were already using Github for our repositories, using Github for tickets is a natural fit and will give everyone a better experience and a better integration.

Even if the Lighthouse system will remain open, don’t create new tickets there (as far as I can see, there is no way to “lock” Lighthouse in a read-only state).

The website and the documentation have also been updated to reflect this change.

Git repository changes

With the upcoming release of Swiftmailer 4.1.0, I’ve changed the way the Git repository is managed. The master branch becomes the main development branch where new features are added (right now, it is equivalent to the 4.1 branch, but it is where new features will be added for the 4.2 version). The 4.0 branch is a new branch to manage the maintenance of the 4.0 version and 4.1 remains the maintenance branch for the 4.1 version.

I’ve just released the first release candidate for Swiftmailer 4.1.

This new version of Swiftmailer has several new features:

changed the Decorator Plugin to allow replacements in all headers
added Swift_Mime_Grammar and Swift_Validate to validate an email address
modified the autoloader to lazy-initialize Swiftmailer
removed Swift_Mailer::batchSend()
added NullTransport
added new plugins: RedirectingPlugin and ImpersonatePlugin
added a way to send messages asynchronously (Spool)

Swiftmailer 4.0.7 has just been released. This is a maintenance release:

changed usage of set_magic_quotes_runtime() to init_set to avoid deprecation warning in PHP 5.3
refactored DiskKeyCache so that files are not left open during long running scripts
report RFC exceptions as send failures (if sending a message) rather than letting the bubble up

Swiftmailer 4.0.6 released

Swiftmailer 4.0.6 has just been released. This is a maintainance release and contains two bug fixes:

fixed Swift_Transport_TransportException for SMTP connection not thrown (#109)
fixed Message-IDs are not updated properly (#118)

Swift Mailer has a blog and its own PEAR channel

Swift Mailer has been an Open-Source project for many years now, and it never had a blog. That’s fixed now!

I will use this blog to give information about the future of Swift Mailer, and all new versions of Swift Mailer will be announced here too. So, if you are a regular user of Swift Mailer, consider subscribing to the RSS feed (http://feeds.feedburner.com/SwiftMailer).

One the first announcement I want to make is the immediate availability of the Swift Mailer PEAR channel. It allows you to install Swift Mailer globally on a machine with the PEAR command line.

First, you need to register the Swift Mailer PEAR channel:

$ pear channel-discover pear.swiftmailer.org

Then, install Swift Mailer with the following command:

$ pear install swift/Swift

Project Handover

As of today, SwiftMailer has a new project manager, Fabien Potencier. This takeover have been discussed between Chris Corbyn, the current lead of the project, and the main developers behind SwiftMailer. Everything is now in place to keep the project moving forward.
