Teaching and Delivery:

• Deliver high-quality swimming lessons to children at various stages of development, ensuring all lessons are engaging, safe and educational.
• Follow and implement the Swim England programme to guarantee the development of swimmers’ skills and technique.

Leadership and Staff Management:

Role Summary

The Lead Swim Coach will be a key member of the Plymouth College Aquatics team and will be required to assist, support and, where appropriately qualified and experienced, lead the delivery of coaching sessions for a wide range of swimmers, from Year 7 competitive swimmers through to high‑performance international athletes.

Overview

Working closely with the Director of Swimming, Deputy Director of Swimming, Plymouth College Aquatics (PCA) Committee, Swim Administrator and Director of Sport, the Lead Swim Coach will contribute to the planning, execution, and delivery of training programmes, competitions, training camps, and day-to-day squad activities. The post holder will also support the wider administration and operational delivery of the PCA programme, ensuring athletes are supported both in and out of the pool.

Coaching and Athlete Development:

• Assist and lead (where appropriate) coaching across the Plymouth College Aquatics programme.
• Support the development of swimmers from age 7 upwards, including performance, development, age‑group, junior and para‑swimmers.

We are a relatively small club but have achieved highly at British and English Nationals as well as Open Water Nationals over the past few seasons. We would love to find an enthusiastic, skilled coach to join our team and work closely with the Head Coach and our friendly and supportive committee.

As ONB (Oxfordshire North Bucks) County Champions for the last 3 seasons, Maxwell is one of the leading swimming clubs in the South East Region.

Safeguarding

The Swim Academy Lead is responsible for the day-to-day management and long-term development of the swim school and its teachers. This role aims to increase income and retain customers while delivering a high level of customer service. The manager also enhances aquatic activities for the community, from young person lifeguard skills to advanced swim academies, and ensures the efficient coordination of classes and staff across multiple locations.

Responsibilities:

1. Manage daily operations and long-term development of the swim school to boost income and customer retention.
2. Directly line manage the Swim Academy Instructor Team, including shift allocation, holiday/sickness cover and performance appraisals.
3. Plan and deliver regular team meetings and internal CPD training for staff, whilst also planning external CPD training.
4. Ensure all team qualifications are current and compliant with regulations.
5. Work with wider teams, including the Customer Care and Business Support team, to ensure all administration tasks are complete in relation to the swim school.
6. Drive income generation for the swim school and achieve growth KPIs.
7. Strategically develop the swim programme in alignment with relevant business plans.
8. Manage the scheduling and coordination of all classes on the Swim Academy Programme to maximise income.
9. Enhance aquatic activities for the community, introducing and developing programmes including but not limited to Junior Lifeguard activities and advanced swim academies.
10. Manage financial tasks including working with wider teams to ensure customer fund collections and Direct Debits funds are taken successfully and ensuring employee costs remain within budget.
11. Deliver swimming lessons when cover is needed, acting as a swimming instructor.
12. Manage swimming lesson equipment, including maintenance, replacement, safety, and ordering new equipment.
13. Ensure high levels of customer service, handle complaints and manage customer communications in regard to the Swim Academy.
14. Lead the recruitment process for Swimming Instructors, arranging qualification training, conducting interviews, completing staff inductions and liaising with HR.
15. Provide regular reports to the Recreational Leadership Team on Swim Academy performance, including but not limited to total swimmers, income, joiners, leavers, cancellations, and movement rates.
16. Build and maintain strong internal relationships with the team and management, as well as external relationships with organisations including but not limited to the Swimming Teachers Association and local schools.
17. Utilise advanced IT skills with Microsoft Office, Go Learn and Gladstone Plus2 systems.
18. Assist with sales and tours, cross-sell fitness services and contribute and develop customer journey planning and implementation.
19. Provide cover for Duty Managers as needed.
20. Analyse and interpret swim academy data to make strategic decisions on adding or removing classes to maximise sales and revenue.
21. At the discretion of the leadership team, to undertake other activities as, from time to time, may be agreed consistent with the grade and nature of the role

Working alongside the Head Coach in supporting the whole coaching team and assisting in the development of junior coaches, the successful candidate will:

• Attend specified competitions, including open meets, home competitions, and County/Regional/National championships.
• Plan and manage the development of individual athletes under your supervision, including meetings with swimmers and their parents to discuss their development and their goals throughout the season.
• Assist the Head Coach in planning the annual competition calendar, highlighting target meets and making sure our calendar meets the needs of the whole club.
• Assist in team selections for the Kent Junior League
• Foster and promote an inclusive environment and create opportunities for all to train and compete to their level and fulfil their full potential.

The Assistant Head Coach will have:

• Practical coaching experience within the club environment with a range of ages and swimming abilities.
• Minimum coaching qualifications: UKCC Level 2 Coaching/Swim England Swimming Coach Certificate.
• Successful experience of coaching swimmers to a minimum of Regional competitive standard.
• Knowledge of long-term development practices in line with the Optimal Athlete Development Framework and Swim England’s progression pathways.
• The ability to plan training sessions for competitive standard swimmers across sessions, cycles and the season.
• Good communication skills in a variety of environments and media.
• Well-developed administrative and organisational skills.
• Experience in managing other coaches

The Assistant Head Coach will be:

The Head Coach, reporting to the club’s Management Committee, is responsible for the overall wet-side operational activities of the swimming club which includes leading the club’s coaching and teaching team (with support from the club’s Academy Manager) in order to ensure the correct guidance, support and development of swimmers towards County, Regional and National achievements, providing input on the direction and strategy of the club, and coaching the club’s Performance 1 squad.

Responsibilities:

• Working with the Management Committee and your Coaching/Teaching team:
  • Lead the planning and implementation of a training programme and timetable aligned with Aquatics GB’s Optimal Athlete Development Framework (OADF), balancing ideal pool time/squad structure with the financial limitations of the club
  • Lead the preparation, in a timely manner, of a competition schedule suitable for swimmers at all levels in the club and ensure appropriate selection of swimmers for team events
  • Lead the development of the club’s structure over time to ensure appropriate adaptation to membership numbers and the financial position of the club
  • Drive the overall performance of the club and swimmers towards aspirational targets as agreed with the Management Committee
• Effectively coach the club’s Performance 1 squad (currently 17 hours/week located across Bracknell Leisure Centre (25m) and Aldershot Garrison (50m) pools)

Person Specification:

• Proven experience in teaching younger swimmers how to swim all strokes and disciplines.
