Most people really enjoy spending time in heated swimming pools. To discover what the best heaters are for swimming pools there are a few considerations.

What kind of heated swimming pool is it..... aboveground pools, fiberglass pools, concrete inground swimming pools and vinyl liner pools may require different kinds of swimming pool heaters.

For aboveground pools, most people don't heat this type of pool. In fact, sometimes the heat given to these types of swimming pools is that by adding some warm water to the pool. Many times it's sufficient as these aren't big swimming pools so just adding some warm water can deliver a heated swimming pool which anyone can enjoy.

Fiberglass pools, concrete inground pools and some vinyl liner pools usually would use a traditional swimming pool heater or solar system for heating swimming pools.
A traditional gas fired heater is the preferred method for heated swimming pools which have an attached spa or hot tub. Additionally, gas fired heaters are the fastest way for heating swimming pools. Solar systems for heating swimming pools are fantastic but they are limited to seasonal heat production based on weather conditions. For year round ability to have a heated swimming pool then the best heaters for swimming pools are the gas fired traditional swimming pool heaters.

On the gas fired swimming pool heaters, they are natural gas or propane. This means, if you have a home which happens to be all electric, you would likely get a propane heater for the swimming pool. Sometimes people think that an electric heater would be the best heaters for swimming pools when they have an all electric house but electric heaters are not efficient for heating swimming pools. It would take forever and a day and then there's the cost of electricity so overall, forget about electric swimming pool heaters. One exception, a heatpump for the swimming pool. If you get a heatpump, they're great for heating swimming pools but leave it at heated swimming pools as when it comes to using a heatpump, they don't do well as fast heat delivery and not high temperatures, therefore, not so good for heating a spa. Also, heatpumps while they are efficient for heating a swimming pool, they use electric but also have factors of the outside air temperatures which can also affect the efficiency of the heatpump.

Summary..... Gas heaters whether propane or natural gas are the best heaters for swimming pools.
Heated swimming pools by using solar systems or heatpumps may be the best heaters for swimming pools in some cases. The final answer as to the best heaters for swimming pools is your personal preferences and planned use of the pool. Do you need it all year round? Do you have a spa? If yes to these then get a traditional gas heater for swimming pools. If you don't have a spa and spring to fall swimming is good then a solar heating system or heatpump might be right for you.
