Your average fan heater isn't usually a stylish object - hidden away until it gets unbearably cold, it comes out to do its work, then goes away as soon as the weather turns. That's unlikely to be the case with the Authentics Max Fan Heater.

That weird, alien-like shape adds some much needed design to the function, without sacrificing the prime use - to pump out heat quickly. The Max can blow hot or cold air via a hefty 1000/2000 watt power output, with the choice of temperature 'infinitely adjustable'. There's also thermal overload protection too, just in casw you get a little over excited with it.

It looks fairly average, but producing the Ribbon coffee table takes more effort than you might imagine.

Designed by Kim Klelund using 'experimentation with lines', the table's frame uses many different lengths of steel that require 'a master craftsman‘s precision and experience' to go together, producing that ribbon-lioke look. Just as well the glass top is more straightforward.

Available direct from the designer, expect to pay around £1,088.

A very modern piece of lighting but with something of a retro look - the Fontana Arte Avion Table Lamp.

Designed by Marco Acerbis, it has the look of something out of the art deco era, despite bewing a 2009 design. Not that it looks like a relic of the past when you turn it on - powered by three fluorescent bulbs, it produces a soothing glow for whatever part of the room you position it in.

On terms of construction, the Avion has upport and shade in polished white painted nylon, manufactured through a rotational moulding process, along with an upper disc diffuser in opal white glass and a base in die cast aluminium. It's available now, priced at £970.
