How to sponsor a music showcase?

Hi,

Our LA based college radio station would like to sponsor or co-sponsor a music showcase at sxsw 2010. It’s the first time anyone at the station has done something like this. Any tips? Thanks!

Any idea of number of wristband entries?

Is there any official or unofficial number on the entries expected? I’m just trying to get an idea of the odds.

Sidenote: I think this new system is ridiculous. The old way, tickets went to those who were most dedicated, the people willing to wait in line forever and take off of work to do so. This random drawing takes something away from the whole SXSW experience.

Have you guys booked rooms yet? Just wondering where everyone is staying. I wonder if the Big Bad Economy will force people to stay further away from downtown and take the shuttle in this year.

A newbie question:

Is this strickly a badge affair?

Or let say I only wanted to see one film, could I just show up at the ticket counter of the movie theater on the night of said movie being shown and buy myself a ticket?

Or will everything be sold out in advance?

La Quinta Austin Highland Mall, Tx - Convenient Location?

Hi all

Am a first time traveller to SXSW and am super excited! I am 21 and am coming with my 18yo sister and music loving parents. We are on an economy budget, but are still looking for something clean and not dodgy. We have made a booking at La Quinta at Austin Highland Mall (TX). We are hoping to spend most of our time attending gigs and different shows. So, I am wondering if this is a convenient location. We have not decided whether to hire a car or not? Any suggestions/area expertise/past experiences/help would be greatly appreciated! Is anyone aware of a more convenient, suitable location?

public transit v. shuttle, La Quinta Oltorf

I will be staying at the La Quinta Oltorf which is one of the wristband package hotels. there is a shuttle but it runs only once an hour, takes a break from 5 to 10 p.m. and appears to only have flat rate service instead of pay-per-trip. I checked out the city bus schedule which runs a bit more often. It looks like there is a night owl bus which would take you home once an hour. I’m not familiar with the area or the public transit. Would people recommend buying the $30 shuttle pass or just grabbing the city bus? Is the area around the hotel creepy late at night?
