Windows 2008 introduces a couple of annoyances with the Certificate Web Enrollment form (/certsrv) that are worth mentioning, and pointing out the workarounds in case you need them. There is a third annoyance (also with a workaround), that is a somewhat more lengthy discussion and will be addressed on it's own. Problem #1: The first is the deprecation of the components we use for Web Enrollment. If we look at KB922706, we can see the details of what happened. This KB article is titled: How to use Certificate Services Web enrollment pages together with Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008 "The Windows Server 2003 Certificate Services Web enrollment functionality relies on an ActiveX control that is named Xenroll. This ActiveX control is available in Microsoft Windows 2000 and in later versions of Windows. However, Xenroll has been deprecated in Windows Vista and in Windows Server 2008". In short, the components are not present in Windows 2008 by default, but can be downloaded from this

Your logic with the Gateway servers is sound, the amount we can talk about another time. So back to the MS not working can you send me a copy of the Operations Manager Log files on both servers?

It’s best practice to not just attach a Script to a single Workflow but create Modules holding the Scripts that can be used by Workflows like Monitors or Discoveries. In this Blog, I will walk you through creating a Management Pack that does just this...

Due to latency on my lines. My lines are highly utilized and database writes over a line with high utilization and latency is leads to performance losses is not recommended. By using a gateway server, all agent information is compressed, sent to a managament server on the same LAN as my RMS and OpsDB and written to the OpsDB. I dont know who here agrees with this logic but in my scenario its the best option. Anyone have a solution to my problem though. How do i get my management server to work again. Moe

Quick question: If all of your gateway servers are in a fully trusted domain, why did you go with a Gateway server and not a Management Server?

Ok Here it goes. In total i have 9 Management Servers and 8 Gateway Servers. Each server, Gateway & Management suport between 30 to 90 clients each with a total client count of 700. They all work off a single management group. All my Gateways are in a trusted domain so kerberos does the job for Authentication. 8 Gateways and 8 management servers are at Remote sites with bandwidth ranging from 256kbps to 1 mpbs. All my Gatways hang of a Management server at the Central Site which reports to the RMS. All currently installed Gateways were install fresh and are working great. My agents havent been configured for failover, i choose to do this manually if a Gateway/Management Server Fails. When i tried converting a management server to a gateway it refused to work so i removed the Gateway Role and Restored the Management Server Role without success. I believe that the Management Group has some remininece of the original Managgement Server remaining which is hindering the new installation. Im

Another potential concern here is that you are pushing OpsMgr's supported limit of 10 management servers. WIth all those Gateways, do you have dedicated Mgmt Svrs for them to report to? How large is your database hardware. More info on your design would be good to know.
