System of Communication

Section C

The next section over, wasn't as industrial, so found little. These posters usually spawn on boarded up places, and it seems there isn't as many as I thought in the central part of Mtl.

Section B

2010-04-12T18:23:00.000-07:00

This time I tried looking at the not so nice areas of Mtl. I found a lot more. Of course, those areas were also scary, so I tried to do this as fast as possible...

Section A

2010-04-12T18:12:00.000-07:00

It's time to start systematically graphing the posters in my area. Let's call this section A.
Surprisingly there weren't too many...

Posters

2010-02-17T12:42:00.000-08:00

Haing seen tons of posters all around me, I decided to alter them a little bit. It felt like I was doing some kind of weird graffiti...Can someone get in trouble for doing this?

Searching

2010-02-17T12:39:00.000-08:00

Being surrounded by the same ads in my school, I went on a quest to find other notice boards where people reach out and try to communicate with others. Here's what I found:

Rebus Puzzle

As exciting as it was to see indications of human interaction with my posts, I wanted to push it some more. So here they are, #1 and #2.

Feel free to post answers here :-D

Thanks!

Personally I read the boards when I'm board, in between time while waiting for someone to arrive or if the post is really visually appealing. In general, I don't have time to stop by and check out every announcement out there. It's hard to judge how much time passer bys spend at looking at these posts. I know, that when I'm challenged, I'm determined to persevere. So, although I have no idea how much time people spend at looking at ads, I decided to try and lengthen it by altering the ads already posted. The challenge to the public was this: I transformed ready-made ads into images, so no text and no numbers... I guess, pictionary style.

Yet again, I don't know if people tried to figure them out, made any links on the board, gave-up or simply looked over it without a thought. Only two of them gave me any measure of success. My print-outs were decreasing in numbers, so I had to periodically re-fill my blue folder, and my "phone nymber" was being ripped off.

Bulletin Board

So bulletin boards...Out-dated?>>? Like the Banns of Marriage?

Maybe...

There's the internet, cellphones, blackberries, and whatever other technological ways of communicating you can think of. However, I'm still interested in the role the bulleting board plays in our present day. So! First things first, I've decided to check out the boards that I see around me...which would be in school.

To start

This is like my online sketchbook, archive and bill board. My private thoughts are spoken to the public about the public speaking out.

I'll start with links to some websites I enjoyed browsing through.

xkcd: http://blag.xkcd.com/
Soundscapes | Biennale Montreal: http://www.biennalemontreal.org/soundscapes/
Joan Lederman | Ceramist : http://www.thesoftearth.com/
Eduardo Kac's Bio Art: http://www.ekac.org/index.html

These ones are so overloaded that I had 10 tabs going.

Yaya Han: http://www.angelicstar.net/
CIAC: http://www.ciac.ca/en/biennale.html
Martha Stewart: http://www.marthastewart.com/

I figured I'd start with websites as they are our contemporary media outlet,
and what better way than to start a website about websites :D .
