         <title>Don't Ask, Don't Tell: the Invisibility of Male Couples</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>One of the most touching moments for me while working on my "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" photo series has been the photographing of couples.  It dawned on me recently, that the element of relationships and couples, particularly of men, has been very invisible when talking DADT, and I'm sure a lot of this has to do with most of straight America being still slightly uncomfortable with the idea of two guys together.  </p>

<p>I wanted to applaud <a href="http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/culturemonster/2010/09/servicemen-and-women-talk-about-life-under-dont-ask-dont-tell.html">the <em>Los Angeles Times</em></a> for using the below photograph I took as <a href="http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/culturemonster/2010/09/servicemen-and-women-talk-about-life-under-dont-ask-dont-tell.html">part of their weekend online coverage of my recent exhibition opening</a>.  A lot of credit goes to journalist David Ng, who spent almost a year covering this series, following me on four different photo shoots, and extensively interviewing the service members in my photographs.  It was interesting for me to note however, that the image the <em>LA Times</em> chose to use in the print edition was not the one of the couple "Tristan and Zeke", but of the female Marine "Ellis." </p>

         <title>Photos: DADT discharges still happening</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>While all of the photographs published in my first photobook <a href="http://www.dadtbook.com">"Don't Ask, Don't Tell: Volume 1"</a> are of closeted service members currently serving, I was recently approached by a cadet who is now facing discharge for coming out, and I chose to open up the scope of my photography series to include her.  This past weekend, I photographed Sara, a North Carolina ROTC cadet, who this past January, could no longer lie to her commander and came out to him as a lesbian.  He immediately asked her to formally take back her statement, and when she refused, he pressed for her discharge.</p>

<p>The only items that Sara had for our photo shoot were a few parts of her former uniform that she had secretly saved and not returned back a few weeks ago when she was dropped from her military classes and asked to return all her military gear.  While taking her picture, I was incredibly moved in seeing the angst and sadness in her as she looked at the last remnants of what could have been an incredibly promising future serving our country. </p>

         <title>Winter Olympics Report exclusive: PRIDE House</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>One of my favorite quotes is from Nelson Mandela and I have it printed out above my desk:  "Sport has the power to change the world.  It has the power to unite in a way that little else does.  It speaks to youth in a language they understand.  Sport can create hope where once there was only despair.  It is more powerful than governments in breaking down racial barriers.  It laughs in the face of all types of discrimination." </p>

<p>For the last few days, I have been at the Winter Olympics in Vancouver and Whistler, primarily to tend to my exhibitions of <em>Fearless</em> (my photography series of "out" LGBT high school and collegiate athletes), here at PRIDE House Vancouver and Whistler, but I wanted to share my thoughts and a behind the scenes look at the historic PRIDE House venues, one of which will be part of a segment in the Colbert Report this week, and to also speak a bit about the incredible significance of these venues being included in the Winter Olympics, a first for our community where a dedicated LGBT space is part of the official Olympic pavilion list and recognized by the host Olympic Organizing Committee.</p>]]><br /> <![CDATA[

         <title>Exclusive Pics: Lt. Dan Choi back in service?</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>This past weekend at the NGLTF Creating Change conference, there was a notable absence that many have already tweeted and remarked about.  Lt. Dan Choi was supposed to lead a Knights Out sponsored workshop on Friday morning about ending "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," but wasn't able to make it. He was training with his National Guard unit.</p>

         <title>Now available: Don't Ask, Don't Tell, Volume 1</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>I first want to start this post by saying a big thank you to the over thirty service members in our military who have allowed me to photograph them for my "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," photo series so far.  It takes a huge amount of courage to volunteer for this project, as these individuals are basically risking being kicked out of the military - it is something that I do not take for granted.  Any one who knows me personally, will know that I care deeply about those that I photograph, and I feel indebted to the number of people so far willing to risk their careers to be in this project.  </p>

         <title>"Don't Ask, Don't Tell, Volume 1," is done</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Projectors, I'm completely excited to announce that I finished the first volume of my "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," photobook series.  I approved the final proofs last weekend with my printers (incidentally on MLK's 81st birthday), and preview copies for the Press and media are being printed right now, with an online presale to the public next week, with shipping starting Feb. 1. I decided to publish my "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" photo series in volumes every 2-3 months.</p>

         <title>Don't Ask, Don't Tell</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>For almost all of us, this past week has been crushing due to the results from Maine.  Almost an equal disappointment for myself is that I am reminded how President Obama was elected a year ago, and change still seems incredibly slow.</p>

<p>Those of you who are familiar with my work, know that I am an artist and activist, where I specifically use photography to create a dialogue with the straight world about LGBTQ issues.  My major project for the last 6 years has been<a href="http://www.FearlessCampusTour.org"> "Fearless," which deals with homophobia in sports</a>, particularly in our high schools and colleges.</p>

<p>About two years ago, I decided that my follow up photography project to "Fearless" was going to be something that dealt with the military policy of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell."</p>
