Warm Signature Cocktails - Winter Wedding Ideas

Signature cocktails I think are a phenomenal way to add to your wedding. It shows personality whether that be your own as a couple or the theme of your wedding. Talk with your wedding or venue planner to discuss things like adding one or a few signature drinks to your menu. Be sure to come recipe in hand if you have a specific drink you want made a certain way so that your planner can make sure it is in fact doable for your wedding. Include them at the bar or have them served with hors d'oeuvres during a cocktail hour or both, the choice is up to you.

Winter weddings are prime opportunity to add some of your favourite drinks with a twist to make your guest feel warm. So after doing some web searching here are some of the favourite warm cocktails (and a mocktail) we have found that would be perfect for a winter wedding.

Hot Chocolate with some Kahlua of course:

This Kahlua Hot Chocolate recipe by Chunguh from Damn Delicious boast a recipe of flavours rich of rich chocolate, cinnamon, nutmeg, Kahlua coffee liqueur topped with marshmallows, salted caramel and chocolate syrup. How can you go wrong with decadent flavours like that??

Want a twist? Try using shaved 70% or more dark chocolate, white chocolate, or add some peppermint and top with peppermint bark.

Warm Apple Cider - Spiked

Everyone can attest to having a favourite warm drink and to many the start of cold weather starts the need for apple cider. If you have ever been in a William Sonoma during the winter time they usually have warm apple cider either brewing or on tap (you are allowed it free so make sure to pop in lol). So this recipe for Spiked Rum Apple Cider hails from Caroline's Cooking. The trick to her apple cider recipe she says is using whole spices instead of a store bought mix. It offers full cinnamon sticks, star anise, whole cloves, and orange peel that is simmered with apple cider until ready. This is perfectly fine as a standalone mocktail but you can add that some alcohol for that spiked kick. Try Rum or Brandy.

Want a twist? Try a spiced rum or apple brandy. Mocktail twist? Infuse other fall/winter fruits in the mix when simmering like cranberry or blood orange peel (or both.. why not both?).

Mulled Wine - Yes it is in fact warm wine

Almost the same as the above Warm Apple Cider in the way it's made accept this drinks base is wine. You're are essential simmering wine and infusing it with oranges and spices like cinnamon and cardamom giving that extra flavour that warms the body as you sip it down. This recipe comes from Gimme Some Oven.

Want a twist? At the end add another kick of liqueur. Also, try sweetening with something perfect for the cold season, like Maple Syrup, which will add another interesting twist of flavour.

It's not truly winter without some eggnog right?

This Eggnog Cocktail sounds perfect for a signature drink at a winter wedding. And who doesn't love some good wholesome eggnog? (especially for a Christmas wedding). It's a twist on a classic Tom and Jerry from The Spruce Eats and encompasses good old-fashioned homemade eggnog (or Tom and Jerry batter) mixed with Spices, Brandy, Rum and some warm milk to serve. This can technically be made with store bought eggnog that you add the additional ingredients to, but I suggest you opt for a very rich eggnog.

Want a twist? In a pan with the milk add molasses and ginger than add that warm concoction to your drink. This would be like drinking a gingerbread man!

Are you a Harry Potter Fan? Well this is for you!

Butterbeer is the favourite of the wizarding world and surprisingly not beer lol. This weird concoction of flavours makes for a truly intriguing signature drink. This butterbear recipe by Tbsp Nate is not exactly warm but served at room temperature so I added it too the list. It boasts of ingredients such as butter, rum extract, cream and cream soda. Sweetened with brown sugar and whipped cream to top.

Want a twist? Not sure I can give you one as this drink is already a twist. But you can make this a mocktail by switching out the rum extract for vanilla or almond.

Rum and Butter - Who Knew?

This Hot Buttered Rum Cocktail recipe from Delish sounds truly delightful and deliciously warm!
Butter, Ice Cream, Cinnamon, and Rum sweetened some more with brown sugar. I mean how can you go wrong with this??

Want a twist? Get creative with your ice cream. Instead of plain vanilla try a maple or pralines!

And finally we end with a Mocktail...

Anything with Sweetened Condensed Milk is life!

And no exception to the rule includes this Warm Vanilla Tres Leches Drink by House of Yumm.
Rich Vanilla bean, 3 types of milk, whipped topping.. all of the above! It seems like a truly decadent drink with rich flavour, which is why I think it is the perfect mocktail, no alcohol necessary to enjoy!

Want a twist? Add some cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves to make this a Tres Leches Vanilla Chai drink!

Halloween Colours Black and Orange - Wedding Inspiration Friday

Welcome to our Thursday Halloween Special.. and a Happy Halloween to all those who love this day! Today we are going to be looking at Halloween colours specifically Orange and Black. Now most cringe at the thought of an Orange and/or Black wedding but we wanted to throw away that stigma and show you just how beautiful either can be. Of course you can also mix inspiration from both to create your very own Orange and Black wedding theme.

Using both bold and subtle ideas you will see that you could indeed have a full monochromatic wedding in either of these colours but also how to pull small accents to add a bit of these colours to your theme. The key for both is overlapping different shades with textures and finishes. Shiny with mat, dark with light, smooth with a raised finish.

So let's start with Orange. Subtle with Bold is a prime example in the Orange inspiration board. Using a Subtle Ocre for the wedding dress and pairing it with a bold burnt orange suit for the groom. It's this play on different shades that would allow for orange to be used throughout your wedding.

Tanzanite is a recently discovered gemstone, said to be connected with the traditions of the Masai tribe, who believe that it has healing properties. The Masai give tanzanite to newborn children, since it is thought to represent life.

Representing Healing which for weddings is a very wonderful thing. To go into a new stage of life offering healing while accepting someone else would be a very good tradition to begin on. So lets's look at how you can offer Tanzanite, specifically Blue-Violet Tanzanite, into your wedding theme going with the feeling of calm, serenity, healing, and love.

Below are the 3 different colour themes. Simple/Ombre great for minimalist are those who like a consistent look. Classic perfect for those who just want a pop of colour paired with neutral tones. Lastly Trendy/Bold that mixes a few colour together and since this seems to be the most scary for those who don't often pair colours together for all of our 3 Gemstone blogs we have an inspiration board for the trendy look which you'll find below.

This Trendy look incorporates Violet Blue, Eggplant Purple, A neutral beige, and Maroon.

Now you can choose to go really bold with any of these colours or all of these colours. We like to add a bit of each colour to balance it out and incorporate them through out all aspects of the wedding from invitations to the wedding gown. A Polka Dot Wedding - Bridal Gown Monday

Today we bring you another Bridal Gown Monday but this time we're going to show you a few ways to add polka dots to your wedding. Polka dots are a timeless pattern that can cross all types of styles. Vintage, Contemporary, Modern and Gothic all can include polka dots in a way that enhances the wedding. And let's be real... polka dots are awesome. So here we'll show you all the ways that you can subtly or boldly add some polka dot patterns to your wedding.

Bridal Gown:

These days you can find polka dots throughout the dress. Whether directly on it, as an overlay coat or shawl, as sleeves, or as a tulle overlay skirt. You name it they've got it. Here are some looks we particularly loved in Classic, Modern, and Gothic styles.

Shoes:

Want a subtle pop of Polka Dot? Shoes are a great way to add them into your wedding subtly. Whether they are seen for only photos, you get a glimpse of them just as you walk in your gown, they are used as your bridesmaids shoes, or you wear them only for the reception, this is a great way to add a hint of polka dot without it being overwhelming. Below we highlight our favourites in a simple flat, contemporary sling back, a modern edge, and classic feel.

Words like courage, release of anxiety and fear paired with soothe and calm make for what would be the perfect mood for a wedding. No fear only courage for the couple and a calming, soothing relaxing time for booth the bridal party and the guest! So how can one incorporate aquamarine into your wedding well below we have some colour boards in simple/ombre, classic, and trendy looks to help you envision your dream day.

For the classic we did monochromatic look in light to dark shades of aqua. It's Budget Bride Tuesday so here we are to talk about topics to keep you on a budget whether you're frugal, have budget restrictions, or you have different plans to spend the money on.. it does not matter. A Song of Ice and Fire and Game of Thrones – Wedding Inspiration Friday

Well this has been a long time coming! I have actually had quite a few people request Wedding Inspiration for A Game of Thrones or A Song of Ice and Fire.. but do to a busy schedule I never got around to it. Then the show got in the way.. I just couldn't think clearly when it came to what I wanted to do. Alas the show has come to an end and the new book has yet to be released so I thought this was the perfect time to post some GOT/ASOIAF Wedding Inspiration while there was little to distract my vision.And a vision it is. I wanted to give just enough old world fantasy and a modern edge twist. Some overt references like Dragon Egg Macaroons and some subtle intrigue like an "obsidian" (black gold) engagement ring with a pink "sapphire" stone. A touch of Winter and of course one must dream of Spring and you have what you see below. I hope you enjoy this Wedding Inspiration Friday!! What are your favourites from the board? DIY Simple Paper Bow and Poinsettia Bow

Hello and welcome to a DIY Wednesday!!!

Today we are helping you make 2 Paper Bows. A simple bow and for the Christmas season a Poinsettia Bow.

Below are some step by step instructions on how we make both! ALL images can be clicked for a larger view!

WHAT YOU NEED:

Scissors
Glue (I use Hot glue but tacky glue will work)
Template
Cardboard or thick paper for template
4 sheets of Cardstock or Paper in the colour of your choice
Embellishments (optional)

STEP 1 – Template

Below you will find a link to the Template google doc that you can download and print for your own use. If you are using the template skip to step 2. But if you wanted to make your own bow in your own size then above pictures show how I made mine, and below are instructions.

For top part of the bow I measured 8 inches out. Marked the centre point. Between the centre and 1 end I marked the centre point again. From that centre point I measured 1.5 inches of thickness (on your ruler look for 1.5 inches, find the centre between 0 and 1.5 inches and line that up with the centre point draw a line). Do the same for the other section. At both ends and the centre point of the full 8 inches measure a 0.5 inch thickness using the same method as in the brackets, draw a line. From the end curve a line up to the top of the 1.5 thickness and then curve down again to the centre point, from the centre point curve a line up to the top of the 1.5 thickness and then down to the other end. Do the same at the bottom and you have the top of the bow.

For the bottom part (the ribbon looking part), I measured out 5 inches. Find the centre point and mark it. Measure a 0.5 thickness at the centre point like you did for the top bow above and draw a line. At both end points measure a 1.5 thickness and mark. From the end points measure in 0.5 inches and mark. From the top of the 1.5 thickness draw a straight line to the mark at 0.5 inches do the same from the bottom point (this will make the inverted triangle shape). From the top of the 1.5 thickness curve a line to the centre point, from the centre point curve a line to the top of the 1.5 thickness at the other end. Do the same for the bottom part and you have the bottom of the bow.

For the centre strip. Measure it is a rectangle measuring 0.5 inches height and 2 inches width.

STEP 2 – SIMPLE BOW

After you've made or printed your template I would suggest using a thicker paper or thin cardboard for multiple reuses. Once that’s complete draw the template on to your paper of choice for your bow. I am using to colours, a turquoise and a deep yellow. Once drawn cut. You need 1 of each of the 3 template pieces to create 1 bow (see below).

STEP 3 – Making your Bow

Take the top part of the bow. Add glue (I use hot glue) and add a dab close to the centre (or in the red circle area of the above photo). Bend without creasing and stick the end down aligning with the centre line (see 2nd photo above). Repeat on the other side.

Take your completed top part of the bow and glue it to the bottom part of your bow aligning both centres so just the tips of the bottom part show (see second photo above).

On the back of your completed bow add a dab of glue to the centre (or in the red circle area in photo above). Take your remaining centre strip of paper and wrap around the middle.

VOILA!

Your simple bow is now complete! You can add jewel embellishments or pearls. You can use different coloured paper or patterned paper to give you the perfect look you desire!!

STEP 1 – POINSETTIA BOW TEMPLATE

For the Poinsettia Bow you need to draw out 3 Top part pieces on Red paper and 3 Bottom part pieces in green (please note you can use any colour of choice as it will just resemble a flower bow). Once drawn cut for both.

STEP 2 – Making your Poinsettia Bow

Arrange the 3 pieces of the top part of the bow at equal distance over lapping at the centre and glue. Repeat for the bottom part (see photo above).

1 by 1 bend without creasing each end to the centre part of the bow. Each part will slightly overlap the next.

Once completed the top and bottom piece should look like the photo above.

STEP 3 – Bow Arrangement

To arrange your bow you can either align the petals of the top part of your bow with the bottom part of your bow like in photo 1 above or you can shift the bow so the petals align in between each of the leaves on the bottom part of the bow like in photo 2. For mine I chose to align directly above each leaf. Once decided glue.

STEP 4 – Centres

Choose a centre for your poinsettia bow that you like. Above I gave examples. In photo 1 I cut a circle out of green paper and a slightly smaller circle out of red. Over lapped evenly and glue. Photo 2 is a yellow circle that I have fringe cut at the edge. Photo 3 is a jewel centre. Photo 4 the fringe circle with a jewel embellishment and Photo 5 is the green and red circle with a jewel embellishment.
For mine I chose the yellow fringe circle with the jewel embellishment!!

VOILA! Your poinsettia bow is complete. And both bows are perfect to attach to gift boxes, bags and cards to add a little pizzazz!

Happy Monday to all… What WONDERFUL weather we have been having here in Toronto.. hope all of you are enjoying the outdoors!

This weekend I indulged myself by eating a truly decadent dessert. It was a cake pop… but that's not all it was. It was moist, succulent.. lol. I could go on!

Lilchick Cupcakes have been one of my favourite vendors for a while now. They bake the best delights and if you haven’t tried them out you should really get on that.

Simple Paper Rose - DIY Wedding Wednesday

Happy DIY Wedding Wednesday and I hope you’re pushing yourself towards getting over the hump so we can all say TGIF!!

Today we’re showing you how to make a simple paper rose that you can use for bouquets, centrepieces, hair accessories, jewellery and really anything you can think to use it for. So let’s get started.

What you will need:

Pretty colourful paper (I used 12 x 12 in. thin one-sided cardstock)
Plain paper for tracing
White glue or really durable glue stick
Toothpick
Hot Glue Gun
1 Mid to Large coloured bead with a whole through the centre
Floral Wire
Floral Tape
Wire cutter
Scissors
Pencil

Step 1:
Trace out the template on plain paper. You can enlarge and print the one below or you can draw your own exactly as below in the size you like. There are 2 ways to transfer template one is to make really thick pencil outline on the plain paper or you can cut out the template along the outline.. only cut the small inner circle.

Step 2:
Take your pretty paper. Fold in half then in half again so that when you cut out the template it will make 4. Either trace around your cut-out or flip over the template and follow the outline of the thick penciled outline on the back so that the pencil transfers onto your pretty paper.

Step 3:
When cutting out the 4 shapes cut along the inner circle first. Put one flower shape aside with the smaller circle (not the one with the template outline on it. Line up the 3 remaining again and cut out the larger centre circle.

Step 4:
Curl up the edges of each flower shape using a toothpick. Repeat for all flower shapes.

Step 5:
Now is the time to glue your flowers to start forming each layer. The bottom layer is the flower shape that has the smallest hole. Overlap one petal and glue. For the remaining 3 over lap 1 1/2 petals for one, 2 petals for another one, and the final one over lap 3 petals. I like to curl the top petal of the overlap in so that it adds more layers. (use either white glue or hot glue gun)

Glue layers together starting with the bottom layer (overlap of 1 petal), Glue the formed flower shape that overlapped 1 1/2 petals, then the flower form that overlapped 2 petals, then the centre will be the flower form that overlapped 3 petals. Now you have your Rose. If using white glue hold flower together firmly for about 30 seconds. You will be adding a bead to the centre so if it doesn’t stick right away it will once the bead is in place.

Step 6:
Create the centre bead. Cut 2 pieces of floral wire using a wire cutter. The floral wire will go through the bead and fold down equally on each side of the bead so be sure to cut out as long a length as you need (x2). Thread both wires through the bead until the centre. Fold both ends down and twist at the bottom of the bead. Continue to twist and wind the four wires together all the way down.

Step 7:
Put the wire and bead through the centre of the flower. Add a dab of hot glue on the bottom of the bead and press down.

Step 8:
Turn flower and wrap floral tape around wire starting at the bottom of the flower. Slight pull the tape (stretching) as you wrap around wire to create a sticky hold.

VOILA!!! Your paper rose is complete.

Rosa Clará Spring 2013: Bridal Gown Monday

Happy Monday.. Happy President’s Day or Happy Family Day depending on where you are!!!

We are looking at the Rosa Clará 2012 Spring Bridal Gown Collection. I must say I went through one gorgeous dress after another.. it was literally impossible to choose a few favourites. MAKE SURE you go scout the collection cause your favourite may not even be in the ones I have chosen. You can check there website for the collection!

Not only do they have gorgeous gowns but they really captured the spring season. They have dresses with light jackets or sleeves that accommodate the warming but still slightly cool spring season! They also added some pastel coloured gowns that despite being pink and blue still look like wedding gowns and don’t have that bridesmaid feel you often get when colours involved (although we here love colour!).

Exquisite detailing in this collection, unique fabrics and the lace patterns are to die for!
