You won't see any decent anime series on Local TV ever again.

Time to hit those terrestrial TV executives in the mouth. I presume that they won’t fulfill their promise and so here it is.

@blockerZENPH of the @zenhonbu recently published an opinion regarding the opportunity that terrestrial (read: Local) TV networks in the Philippines have wasted.

As you may notice, we are halfway through the month of May and the rain pours down even harder… and we have yet to see a single decent anime premiering throughout the season.

I wonder, did the networks simply forgo the youth audience and just continue with their ‘tried & tested’ formula plots that targets only women, particularly the mothers? It seems so. #

Nailed it, bro. The statements above probably sums up what I see in today’s programming on my neck of the woods. It’s like they would like to show to us that the TV they are using for entertainment purposes is (if applicable) not ours.

Sailor Moon? Nope, I have watched the final episode thrice. Naruto? Why? One Piece? Nope. Fairy Tail? Not enough.

This is why I resort to Cable TV. Imagine, you have channels 43 to 47 to cheer up the child in you. That’s better.

Therefore stop begging for new anime on Local TV, they won’t even bother. Remember when TV5 planned an anime convention? It did not happen. Why bother telling yourself “I’m stupid” or “I’m with stupid” begging for an anime series at this specific time when you can have anime at your own time?

The message is clear. You won’t see any decent anime series on Local TV ever again. It might take years (with exaggeration) for a miracle. Stop it, your resistance is futile. Considering the Toonami relaunch and their head’s request to “Watch the block and love it, then you get what you want,” this is no small talk.

Summer season is over. Any other choices? How about in the middle of the school year? Do not want, of course. End-of-the-year season? It’s ok but it’s short. How about next year? Can’t wait, bro. You said it would happen this year, screw you.

You perhaps placed the anime budget in some place, namely the telenovela budget and state that it will be part of the talents’ salary. Ok, but how about us?

I am telling you, give up already. Watch your anime on Cable TV or the internet. They won’t bother. QED.

These are the three things that I think about my creation. Then it seems that I feel that this is not suitable for me, for some reasons (read: excuses, feelings, etc.), namely:

Resources (that is why I am resource-sharing with others, namely, my cousin)
Time constraints (when there is too much to blog and your time is up, it’s so sad)
Most of the kings of aniblogging have thought-provoking posts (that’s the fact), and I just write summaries that does not make sense, much to my disappointment. Yet I still haven’t made up a thought-provoking post, no matter what I do.
I’m a jerk for interactions. I only put up Livefyre for the Aniblog Tourney, but it seems (and it is) that whatever I do, I can’t wait to have a second commentator (the first one is @EmperorJ, and he has only been the commentator for the first 5 months or so of this section). Without comments in my blog, no interactions are made and therefore I always feel like I would like to pull out the comments section.
Episodic anime blogging, in my case, is exhausting.

Starting from this post, I am halting the production of episodic anime reviews (and the daily anime posts, yes) to make way for brainstorming and perhaps production of weekly anime opinion posts. It took me a moment to realize this.

With that, let me be much more productive than I ever have to.

By the way: I’m also at iBlog8 today and tomorrow at the UP Diliman College of Law. I want to see fellow anime bloggers and share ideas with them. It’s socializing time!

One-shot reviews: Rental Magica

The final episode of this series aired on Cable TV last night. With that, let’s look at why I liked this show, one-shot.

A nobody named Itsuki Iba (of whom your friendly neighborhood Lelouch Lamperouge lend his voice to) has a friend named ~~Honneamise~~ Honami Takase Ambler and they went to a haunted house.
Itsuki saw a monster. It went into his left eye. If that would be Lulu, it’ll go on the right.
Now, Itsuki has a scar in his left eye and is sealed by an eye patch.
Years after, Honami is now a Celtic mage (I wonder if in her childhood she’s a meganekko) and Itsuki became somebody: Chairman of the Board of Astral.
He, Honami, comrades and stakeholders Adelicia Lenn Mathers, Ren Nekoyashiki, Mikan Katsuragi, Manami Kuroha among others form the Astral.
This is a manga adaptation.
This has 24 episodes and is aired in a way similar to Haruhi S1.
Episode #21, I can’t forget that one. Please read the table.
I can’t even tell you how am I fascinated with this series. One-shot though, it’s recommended for you and your fellow anime fans.

I actually watched *a lot* of anime during my “free time” days ago. It’s a bit exhausting, but I got to work my body a bit and be a productive person.

Danshiko Specials # 1 and 2

# 1: Habara?

# 2: “Nope, I will do something so i’m not available.” Afterwards, “wait, what are you doing here?”

Fujiko Mine # 6

A yuri-filled episode. Oscar cross-dressing. This is so screwed up that I will never forget I watched this.

NEVER FORGET OSCAR, which is voiced by none other than Oh My Shoe. He’s fabulously flamboyant. Kaji’s playing his girl part very well. He’s so happy and gay.

So, Fujiko was a slave in her childhood days? Also, Sucker Punch, sleeping gas, Da Vinci Code, immature brats, torture and trickery. PARADIGM SHIFT!

Nyaruko # 3 meet Shantak-kun in his tiny form.

Let them eat cake. Nightgaunts and ghouls. Movie promotions. Tezcatlipoca! Machine Shantakcar. Nyaro onii-san.

Nyaruko # 4 Nyaruko, meet my mom.

…who is a Deity hunter. Her SAN is quickly dropping. So she has a lot of Super Famicoms around the house. Meet Hamsturrrrr-kun.

Nyaruko # 5 Great Conspiracy X

Hamstur-kun! Eco-bags. Space cars. Pokemon. No, R’lyeh. …and Nyark drives cars. Itano circus? “We’re both guys, right?”

Accel World # 5 this episode. THIS. EPISODE. I MEAN IT.

Show this to those who do no believe that pigs can fly. The first match between Taku and Arita as burst linkers shows that Taku is desperate for something in his guild, so he hurts Chiyu, Kuroyukihime and Arita for that thing which I don’t know what.

Now that Arita / Silver Crow is the only flying avatar in Accel World, it awes the spectators. Fantastic. It’s like the feeling of watching Kagutsuchi (Mai-HiME) fly away like a skyline pigeon.

Accel World # 6 tag-team!

Sorry, bro. No, sorry, bro. …and it goes on. Arita is now on Level 2. He and ~~Duck~~ Taku confesses to Chiyu regarding the fiasco, and you don’t want to see a Yui Hirasawa character go angry and blasts books at you.

We got to see how Arita finds a bodyguard. It’s female, yes. Also, Kuroyukihime made Taku go quit the Kendo club and what the hell is happening with her? Also, the feeling is mutual, since the bodyguard has a hamster for an avatar.

Upotte!! # 3 …and, 4, and 5.

# 3: NOPE. This is tentacle grape in disguise. YEP, it’s Spring cleaning time. The teacher is scary after being shot many times. So, Funco is ashamed of herself. Ichiroku is clumsy, and Eru is dragged. NOPE, it’s “My goodness, not again” to me. We also got an intro to the elder sisters inside the high school. Swiss gun assassin, used for writing. Kyoto-ben! We are also introduced to the Machine Guns. These elementary girls like M16. YEP, They knew Eru well. Gun history 101.

# 4: Ichiroku is also a model. Sig throbbing hearts of friends, and convinces Funco to be act like a model. Wow. Eru and Ichiroku sets up the dorama. Now, we have cat-guns! Avtomat Kalashinova and Vietnam War 101 too. There goes the close combat.

# 5: This is how M16 regrets. Eru on potholes. Eventually, the yellow head is a slut. Now I understand Daniel Mercedes. I threw an F-bomb. Sako’s a creep.

# 6: Sako screwed the show… or so i thought. She is just aroused.

Rating: ++, ++, + and ++ respectively.

Natsuiro Kiseki # 3 … and4, and 6. Why I forgot to get Episode 5?!

# 3: Rinko is exaggerating when she said that there will be men in black to capture them as some people have seen them flying (as per Episode 1). There goes the revenge on pranks. Also, that guy who saw them flying in the sky. Saki dresses as a witch. Eh? Saki goes nuts? NOOOOOO MY AYAHIMEEEEEEEEE—not really. “Sorry I couldn’t be a witch.” DAWWWWWWW.

# 4: Saki has a cute vice this time. There goes the “Dakara” line. Everybody is all smiles today. Wow. Yuka and Rinko is spying on Saki. Afterwards the race to Lawson is up, and Yuka loses due to the hyperness she got.

# 5: Skipped. *reads RandomC* It’s a Rinko episode. Fuwa fuwa time~?

# 6: This episode highlights Natsumi’s tennis practice, enough said.

Rating: ++, all of them… even though I haven’t watched #5, I do not care. I have no time left from my “office hours” box.

Lullabys of Birdland for Mother’s Day, you want?

Le Story feels dramatic for Mom’s day.

Ritsuko feels derpy. Kaoru feels hopeless. Then he plays with one of Sentaro’s sisters. “I can’t stay mad at you.” … “The coincidences keep on coming.” Those lines.

Ri’ko feels sad whenever Kaoru is not in the practice area. It’s obvious. Kaoru got a letter from his former helper who met his mom around Tokyo. The letter was given to him by his dad… while Sentaro hides inside his room for obvious reasons. Now, Kaoru goes to Tokyo (and Sentaro tagged along).

Sentaro then gives him food from Ri’ko while in the ride. As they depart from the train, they are welcomed to Tokyo and saw busy people. The normal Tokyo people, yes?

So, the address points to a place named Aoi Choucho (Blue Butterfly). Kaoru then changes his mind. It’s her mom’s day-off. Then they go to Jun’s place and wha’ddya know? Kampai! Not to mention that there are letters coming from Yurika at the guy’s doorsteps. Also, they’re drunk!

The next day, it’s raining. There we go, they met each other. This happened. They’re having fun.

Now, the musical reference - Chris Connor’s Lullaby of Birdland. …and tears. Going back to Kyushu!

I watched this show on Mother’s Day, and it feels relieving to me.

So, that’s what happened in this episode. It’s interesting how Oreki gets the job done without exhausting chunks of energy. I’m not surprised why the guy is twitchy, and does not want him to be seen smoking.

This episode did not blew me up but still I enjoyed it.

Fate/Zero and the Alimango Island reactions.

Why is this a trend recently?

In the 18th episode of Fate/Zero, a tropical setting is used. The setting was so familiar to me, and yes it is, as I was tagged in a discussion on twitter with friends @fkeroge, @kousakakiririn and @djmeganekon among others.

It has dawned me that Ep. 18 of #FateZero actually takes place in the Philippines specifically Alimango Island. #whowouldhavethunk

So apparently, Kiritsugu Emiya was born in the Philippines ^[1]and spend his childhood days there. The rest of the story involves Dead Apostles (from Tsukihime) and extermination.

As I scroll down over at the RandomC article, I saw an image that represents the Filipino references (the outdoor basketball court, the roosters, the Nipa Huts, yes this is familiar).

In my honest opinion, the portrayal of Alimango island is naturally good. The next blockquotes are reactions from the Aniblogging community and its commenters. After that is my puns: One will look at the place. Can I have images afterwards?

So, anyone want to check out Arimago/Alimango Island? I hear crabs are in season. XD I’m actually planning a trip there before May ends and the Philippine school year begins, just to see the place.

I feel vindicated now that more and more people on the internet believe that Arimago island is actually Alimango island.

…actually, this is not the first time that the country has been featured in games and anime.

Actually, the Philippines has been featured in anime before, if you’ve watched Black Lagoon, a part of one of the story arcs involved - you guessed it, terrorists in the Philippines. It’s not too big of a deal for me though.

Speaking of the Philippines in animation and games, The Shooter game “Conflict Global Storm” featured an entire rescue arc (a couple of stages) by American Special OPS in the Southern Philippine Islands, I don’t remember exactly the place (it’s been 6 years since I played it) but I believe it’s Basilan and its surrounding islands.

Alimango Island is actually a real island in the Philippines. It’s located in Negros Occidental, in the middle of the Visayas. Now whether the island in Fate/Zero is really Alimango island, what we can technically be sure of is that they used a Filipino Island setting for Episode 18.

One-shot Reviews: Tears to Tiara

This series is still continuing on Cable TV. @Solidad told me to swap this with Dog Days, but I refuse. It’s good.

We have this woman named Riannon, of which is threatened by some evil jerk to resurrect the “Demon King”, Arawn (say Eh-ra-wun).
…only for the evil jerk to be snipped off his life.
Riannon’s brother, Arthur (nice name) tries to save Riannon from the evil jerk but yes, he saw what happened: Riannon just said that Arawn will be his husbando.
Arthur’s somewhat jealous.

That’s the first episode for you. Although I won’t be able to continue this, I would like to reiterate that I prefer this over Dog Days, Tales of the Abyss (of which the retarded main character is a replica of someone; sorry PS2 players but I’m not into games), The Book of Bantorra, etc. - Aside from Hunter X Hunter (say it without a ‘X’. Why? Because…), of course.

I have an idea. Let’s mix Culture with Culture. What can we get? Nah, just kidding. I just want to write. This is my blog, you guys already know.

Alright, this is a primer to a series of posts regarding Filipino references on my niche (namely Anime and Otaku-related) that I would like to throw my voice in. Before that, let me explain some terms.

Why I called this section “The Filipino Bias”? - It’s actually MY Filipino Bias, and it does not consist of Manny Pacquiao and such. Also, I do not like to shorthand the word “Filipino” to the colloquial term “Pinoy”, since this gets in my nerves.

Those who salute me for this know well that what I see here in my country is not what I want to see, yet these are something that is inevitable. Anyway, I should be showing you my bias (either with or against) to my country.

One of my Filipino biases is not to say “Pinoy” - and not to say “Pinoy Pride”. Instead, I say “Filipino Pride”. That’s a fact.

Now, what if we got a fellow Filipino who is raking up outside the country? Charice? Pacquiao? Jessica Sanchez? The news about them are being slapped into our faces, so why follow he trend and be like a doof? That is why I will plainly concentrate with my niche and filter these people, since they got our attention for X number of times.

So, that’s a primer. If you’re pretty much confused with this block of text I have stated, feel free to tell me that I’m justifiably wrong by pointing out the mistakes either by email (tcmanila@gmail) or by twitter (@TCManila).

A Fanfic.

I once dreamt of doing a fanfic, and now I finally did one… or at least a part of it. Let’s say if Chrissie is an expat who went to Japan for ~~vacation~~ work from the USA, that’s how my fanfic goes.

Behind the Scenes: Yukine Kurisu

Plot

A fan fiction that describes what may be Yukine Kurisu’s life while in her homeland Japan after years of living in the United States.

Story

Chapter I. Arrival.

Narita. 11AM. A persona just arrived, by the name of Yukine Kurisu, after years of study and being an expatriate in the United States. She is not here to have a vacation and not just to visit her close relatives, but to act and be part of a thirteen-episode series. This would probably be the longest month of her life.

Kurisu remembers her life in the states - it took her years to remove the normal stereotypes she has been marked as such. She was considered a tomboy then.

Just only three miles left before reaching the point of destination, and Kurisu looked upon her life now: she survived (and still surviving) all the negative insults she have received. Twenty minutes after, she was in the shooting location.

Chapter II: …with Hibiki.

After departing from the vehicle, Kurisu has seen a glimpse of the splendor of many, many months of preparations that is the shooting set of the series, ready to be rolled in gigabytes of space. She was escorted to her boarding place for briefing and schedule.

After the briefing, she got a chance to stroll around. Joining her is a girl almost the same age as hers. They had so much fun talking about each other that they did not even have an opportunity to introduce themselves. The girl who accompanied her happens to be the heroine of the series: meet Tachibana Hibiki, 15 years old, and a certified clumsy girl.

Hours of getting to know almost each other has been put into halt when the role call has been announced. The cast will meet again. For the first time, Kurisu will be joining — and it will be the first time that she’ll wear a costume, something that she usually see in her community.

Sentaro shows Kaoru his life as a mixed breed. Therefore he is not perfect.

One racist does not like black jazz, which made Sentaro pissed.

…and the plot goes like this:

4 years ago, a Guerrilla performance was held somewhere. Four young girls (Orine, Yuka, Nagisa and who’s the other one?) passed the sewage to watch it.
The concert started. Everybody cheers. One of the girls cries with joy.
After the first song, an army of anti-entertainment soldiers came in to “prevent more damage to the brains of its fans” by shooting “NO IDOL cannons”.
Eventually, performers changed costumes and went on to become warriors.
…and so, Kirara!
Four years after, the 74th(?) audition for new members of the group are held. Online applications are accepted (good thing), but it should be encrypted (128-bit SSL? SSH? HTTPS? Shall I use TrueEncrypt?).
One of the girls, Nagisa, decides to join… and so her friends follow suit.
Of course, there is dorama here. Nagisa’s father is a government official. Conflict!
They passed the first auditions.
Not to mention that Yuka told his boyfriend that if she passed the auditions, he won’t get her autograph.
…and of course, Nagisa won’t just give up that easily. She even dreamt of her friends as members while she’s sitting there watching their performance, crying with regret.
The next day after, Nagisa and company went on to board a spaceship and proceed with the auditions.

Although I have picked Hyouka on my #3 Spot at the Watchlist, I decided to watch this.

Rating: I even gave this a +++ for the first episode alone.

This #seiyuu’s mom accompanies her to all of her recording and filming sessions in her younger days, and it was worth it. Her daughter’s now 20 (?), has a role on #saki, and is known as the one who voiced an omnipotent being in an anime series considered to be in the likes of Sailor Moon and Mai-HiME.

Who is she?

Answer: Aoi Yuuki’s mom. Why, because?…

When Ao-chan was younger, her mother accompanied her to all her recording and filming sessions.

MYSTERY!

The Legend of the Popular but Unwanted Book.
It smells like Paint Thinner.
Therefore, it someone must be using it for something.
…and I conclude that the book is being used as a model (read: Props) for the paintings at the art club.

Wait, that’s not a mystery!

We met Ibara Mayaka, who is interested in Fukube but does not want to remember that.
Mayaka has been outsmarted by Oreki.
Chitanda L called Oreki on a Sunday.
They met at the cafe.
…and I don’t remember what happened next. Yes, it’s a cliffhanger.
