The bounce back today only allowed us to recover the late day losses from yesterday. As such, we're still sharply lower on the week, particularly in the CDS and the shares. Can we recover those losses by Friday? Sure. But, once again, it's going to require some help and jawboning from Trump to make it happen.

The threat of an imminent resumption of war on Iran eased a bit late yesterday and this allowed for a bounce in the PMs...a bounce which reclaimed most, if not all, of the afternoon losses that were spurred by the breakdown of peace talks. But the new day hasn't been particularly full of good news and crude remains above $90 so the short-term for the PMs remains cloudy on this Wednesday....

A weekend full of bad news out of the Middle East led to another sharp Sunday drop from which the PMs never recovered. However, the drop wasn't quite as steep as last week and prices never got remotely close to where they bottomed last week.

Thursday begins with more rumors of peace but no real substantive progress. And so, after rallying last evening, the PMs are falling today with higher crude and a POSX that is finally set to break an eight-day losing streak.

Friday brings another NYSE monthly option expiration day and, though these days have lessened in importance and volatility with the advent of weekly and even daily options, we still need to be aware of the "sweet spots" as the week continues.

So let's dive right in. As I type this just before the PM Fux, the PMs are off their overnight highs but trying to rally back a little on Comex...

Gosh how things have changed in the past 48 hours. After the collapse of the Islamabad peace talks last weekend, it appeared that the entire MENA was about to dissolve into catastrophe. Instead, here we are two days later with sharply lower crude oil prices and soaring precious metals.

Of course, we can't know what tomorrow will bring and the headlines can shift at any moment....

The news has generally improved as the day has gone along....or maybe better said, it simply hasn't gotten any worse. Either way, the day has turned out much better than it appeared it would after the Pakistani peace talks collapsed on Saturday and the markets took a nosedive at the reopen last evening.

Again, it's hard to say this is "good news" but it's better than the alternative...
