Scott and Kevin got a little help today from a PCE which benefitted from a slight change in methodology. The result was a cooler than expected set of inflation numbers which, for a few minutes at least, scrambled the minds of The Algos and set the PMs flying.

For a few minutes, at least. And then...just the same old, same old. The POSX rallied back and the algos ground the PMs back...

After the extreme thrashing that the PMs took on Monday, we had to expect hope that they would bounce back today...and they did! What caused the bounce? Some weak/lousy economic data and then some dovish commentary from a very unexpected source.

What a dreadful start to the week. Bond yields soared again today but not as much as some days last week and the POSX today but, again, not as much as some days last week. Regardless, it was almost as if a global decision was made over the weekend to dump commodities, in particular gold and silver.

The selling in the PMs began right at the reopen last evening and continued through Shanghai and London. It's an ugly start to the week and it's going to be a long week, too, with perhaps the most lengthy list of economic data that I've ever seen.

It wasn't a great day for the PMs as the POSX ran its winning streak of green candles to eleven and the bond market continued to sell off. I'm certain, however, that Billy would agree that it's a nice day for a white wedding. And it is.

Oh my. Ummm. Well. Things are starting to get out of hand as U.S. treasuries are almost bidless today. This is a bad thing in the short term...as you can see in PM prices. However, these current events are speeding up the timeline for what will be extraordinarily positive developments for the PMs.

If you had told me last Friday that Kev would hike and seem hawkish, bonds would sell off and the POSX would rally over point this week, I might have expected a damaging pullback in the PMs and shares. Instead, the week turned out OK with CDG up a little and CDS up 3%. So, is that a good sign or a bad sign as we move toward the end of Q3. Let's discuss.

It's the third Friday of the month and you know what that means. Already we're seeing overnight gains wiped away in the PMs. Will that continue through the day? Probably. Does it even matter, though? Nope.
