We've had quite the two-week run in the PMs and, as we discussed yesterday, we were getting a little stretched and overbought. As such, no real surprise in today's price action. Additionally, it wasn't just CDG and CDS getting dumped today. It was the full board.

Anyway, it is what it is and with the awful and horrific news of yesterday, does it even matter?

While I was out yesterday afternoon, the US .gov released their Monthly Treasury Statement for July. To say it was a disaster would be a massive understatement and it serves as another stark reminder of why we bought gold and silver in the first place.

First things first...Today's PPI was even more tame than yesterday's CPI. However, Goon Hammack was out there calling for rate hikes...

The much-anticipated CPI report for July came in right at expectations this morning, at least as far as headlines MoM and YoY numbers were concerned. Will that be enough to further ease any rate hike concerns for September?

After the tremendous rally of the past six trading days, our PMs sort of ran out of gas today as they got a little overbought and dealt with some profit-taking ahead of tomorrow's CPI. But that's OK and to be expected. We saw this last Thursday, too, before the BLSBS and look how that turned out.

The big news this week will be updates to CPI and PPI on Wednesday and Thursday. In between, who knows as we take it day by day and hope to paint more green candles after the terrific week last.

Wow! What a day and what a week! It certainly appears that we have turned the corner from the peak hawkishness of late June and late July. However, it's unlikely to be straight back up from here and even next week might be challenging with the looming release of the latest CPI and PPI data.

So my advice to you this weekend is to take a deep breath of relief, followed by a deep pull...

Today's BLSBS came in negative and WAY below expectations with over 100,000 "jobs" revised away from May and June, too. The result is a plunge in the POSX and rate hike expectations along with a new surge in the PMs and shares.

It has been a terrific week with interest and open interest surging in gold. However, much of that good might be undone if the BLSBS comes in stringer than expected tomorrow so be on watch and look sharp at 8:30 ET.
