I fill my cooler days with pots of tea and foods that create warmth in the body, like the spices in this recipe. Garlic, ginger, turmeric, cayenne, onion and even sunflower seeds all play a role in creating the internal fire we need to stay warm.&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/font&gt; 
&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;p&gt;

&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;ul&gt;
	&lt;li&gt;&lt;font size="2"&gt;2 small cloves of garlic&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/li&gt;
	&lt;li&gt;&lt;font size="2"&gt;&amp;frac12;&amp;rdquo;x&amp;frac12;&amp;rdquo; cube of fresh ginger, peeled&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/li&gt;
	&lt;li&gt;&lt;font size="2"&gt;1&amp;frac12; TB onion&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/li&gt;
	&lt;li&gt;&lt;font size="2"&gt;1/3 c. red bell pepper, chopped&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/li&gt;
	&lt;li&gt;&lt;font size="2"&gt;1/3 c. carrot, chopped&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/li&gt;
	&lt;li&gt;&lt;font size="2"&gt;2 TB olive oil&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/li&gt;
	&lt;li&gt;&lt;font size="2"&gt;1&amp;frac12; TB curry powder&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/li&gt;
	&lt;li&gt;&lt;font size="2"&gt;2 tsp honey&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/li&gt;
	&lt;li&gt;&lt;font size="2"&gt;&amp;frac12; tsp cumin&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/li&gt;
	&lt;li&gt;&lt;font size="2"&gt;&amp;frac14; tsp coriander&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/li&gt;
	&lt;li&gt;&lt;font size="2"&gt;&amp;frac14; tsp salt&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/li&gt;
	&lt;li&gt;&lt;font size="2"&gt;pinch of cayenne, or to taste &amp;ndash; here&amp;rsquo;s where you can really turn on the heat&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/li&gt;
	&lt;li&gt;&lt;font size="2"&gt;1 c. sunflower seeds, soaked for 4 hours, drained and rinsed well&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;/ul&gt;
&lt;p&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;font size="2"&gt;&lt;em style="font-style: normal; font-weight: 700"&gt;Instructions:&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/font&gt; 
&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;
&lt;font size="2"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
In a food processor use the &amp;ldquo;S&amp;rdquo; blade to chop the garlic and ginger. Scrape the sides of your processor with a spatula. Add all remaining ingredients except sunflower seeds. Pulse until veggies are chopped, but not pur&amp;eacute;ed and spices are well combined. Scrape the sides of the processor once again. Add the sunflower seeds and process until the seeds are finely chopped and all ingredients are thoroughly blended. Serve at room temperature on flax crackers with a steaming cup of spicy chai tea. &lt;/font&gt;

	&lt;br /&gt;
	&lt;/li&gt;
	&lt;li&gt;Consider buying organic, natural, sustainable, recycled/upcycled, and artisan/handmade products.&lt;br /&gt;
	&lt;br /&gt;
	&lt;/li&gt;
	&lt;li&gt;Consider being a part of a food coop, CSA, barter, or sharing economy.&lt;br /&gt;
	&lt;br /&gt;
	&lt;/li&gt;
	&lt;li&gt;Consider moving all your material possessions through freecycle, Craigslist, or circles of acquaintances: especially items likes toys and games, children&amp;#39;s clothes, shoes, or other items that can get a lot of usage.&lt;/li&gt;

&amp;nbsp;We can strive towards self-sufficiency and support of our local economies. This year, move away from the Wal-mart and toward the Farmer&amp;#39;s Marketplace. Move away from Amazon and toward your artisan jeweler, independent bookstore, or vintage shop. Stop going to the chain restaurant and support the local ethnic restaurant.&amp;nbsp;

We can move the economy towards sanity, productivity, and security - one decision at a time.&amp;nbsp;

	&lt;li&gt;&lt;font size="2"&gt;2 1/2 cups Brazil nuts, walnuts or pecans&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/li&gt;
	&lt;li&gt;&lt;font size="2"&gt;3/4 cup raw cacao powder&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/li&gt;
	&lt;li&gt;&lt;font size="2"&gt;1/2 cup shredded coconut&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/li&gt;
	&lt;li&gt;&lt;font size="2"&gt;1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/li&gt;
	&lt;li&gt;&lt;font size="2"&gt;1 teaspoon vanilla extract or seeds from 1 vanilla bean&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/li&gt;
	&lt;li&gt;&lt;font size="2"&gt;pinch of Himalayan salt&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/li&gt;
	&lt;li&gt;&lt;font size="2"&gt;1 cup pitted dates, well packed&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/li&gt;
	&lt;li&gt;&lt;font size="2"&gt;2 tablespoons cold pressed coconut oil&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;/ul&gt;
&lt;p&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;font size="2"&gt;Place the Brazil nuts in a food processor and chop finely.&amp;nbsp; Add the cacao powder, coconut, ginger, vanilla and salt and process again to combine.&amp;nbsp; Separate the dates and add to the food processor along with the coconut oil.&amp;nbsp; Pulse to gently begin to combine the dates.&amp;nbsp; After a few pulses, run the food processor until all ingredients are well combined and a sticky dough has formed.&amp;nbsp; Scrape into an 8&amp;Prime; baking pan and press the dough in firmly.&lt;/font&gt; 
&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;p&gt;
&lt;font size="2"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;em&gt;For the Ginger Candy Topping&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/font&gt; 
&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;ul&gt;
	&lt;li&gt;&lt;font size="2"&gt;3 tablespoons raw agave nectar&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/li&gt;
	&lt;li&gt;&lt;font size="2"&gt;1/2 teaspoon grated fresh ginger&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/li&gt;
	&lt;li&gt;&lt;font size="2"&gt;1 cup finely chopped raw walnuts or pecans&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/li&gt;
	&lt;li&gt;&lt;font size="2"&gt;1/4 cup cacao nibs&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;/ul&gt;
&lt;p&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;font size="2"&gt;Place the agave and ginger in a small bowl and whisk together.&amp;nbsp; Add in the nuts and cacao nibs and mix well.&amp;nbsp; Spread the topping over the brownie and press with a spatula to set.&amp;nbsp; Place the entire tray in the freezer for 1 hour to firm.&amp;nbsp; Cut into 12 pieces and serve.&lt;/font&gt;

I totally breezed through my first winter on raw foods (in Rhode Island, surrounded by sick people all season) without a single illness&amp;ndash;the first time in my entire life. I love taking a daily, high quality multivitamin along with a dose of probiotics.  Our immunity actually begins in our gut, so it&amp;rsquo;s really important to keep a good balance of healthy flora.  For those very rare moments when I feel the slightest tickle in my throat, I created this drink to nip it in the bud.  I&amp;rsquo;ve had a lot of success with this as I feel it is the perfect blend of simple and accessible cold kickin&amp;rsquo; foods.  Ginger, garlic and raw honey are all antibacterial and antiviral.  Honey soothes the throat&amp;ndash;if you can get powerful Manuka honey, even better.
