Apple MacBook Pro 13in 2009 Edition

Non-user replaceable battery aside, it's difficult to find fault with the new 13in MacBook Pro. All the things that made it great in the first place remain, but they've been joined by highly desirable features like the FireWire port, SD card reader and the now standard backlit keyboard. Add-in outstanding battery life, a faster CPU and a slightly more affordable price and you've got a package well deserving its recommendation.

TomTom XL Live IQ Routes

It's great to see LIVE already filtering down to less pricey members of TomTom's sat-nav range. But with the subscription costing the same this isn't yet LIVE for the masses, even if the XL is still a great sat-nav device.

LG Viewty Smart GC900

All told, then, the LG Viewty Smart GC900 is a difficult beast to pin down. Its camera isn't quite good enough to make it a true camera phone, it lacks a sophisticated enough web browser and email client to even come close to rivalling the iPhone or other smartphones. Its missing headphone jack and lack of hardware controls mean it's not a dedicated music phone, and it's not so cheap (like the Nokia 5800 Express Music) that it makes for a truly low cost alternative to all the other touchscreen phones. Nonetheless, it's an elegant, easy to use all rounder available at a decent price.

HTC Touch Pro2

HTC has pulled out all the stops with the Touch Pro2 creating a beautifully styled and extremely well built smartphone that features a fabulous keyboard and impressive specs. It must continue to frustrate HTC that what faults the Pro2 does have are largely due to the limitations of the core OS, but if you maintain a soft spot for the Microsoft platform there is simply no finer Windows Mobile phone on the market right now.

Sanyo Xacti VPC-WH1 Waterproof Camcorder

On paper, Sanyo looked like it had stolen a march on Panasonic with the Xacti VPC-WH1, as the first consumer-oriented waterproof HD camcorder. But whilst its moisture-repelling capabilities are commendable, video performance in poorly lit underwater conditions isn't so outstanding. Nevertheless, you will still be able to grab many moments of aquatic pleasure, and at under £300 it's incredibly good value. So this may not be the perfect HD video water baby, but at least Sanyo's Xacti VPC-WH1 won't mean you have to dig deep to dive deep.

The Roberts Sound MP-53 is a great all-in-one home audio system that packs in plenty of features and sounds pretty decent as well. There are DAB radios with more features, better sounding CD players, and more elegant iPod docks but few things can match the MP-53's abilities for the same price.

Nero BackItUp & Burn Review

Overall, Nero BackItUp & Burn is worth its £30 asking price. Though a lot of the functionality it offers can be found in various freeware programs, the package's integration and largely intuitive interface elevate Nero's solution to a step above. If you want to backup, synchronise, recover and burn data, it's definitely worth checking out.

Mio Navman Spirit 300 Sat-Nav

Costing just £130 and without a widescreen, the Mio Navman Spirit 300 goes head-to-head with the likes of TomTom's ONE 'Classic' and 'IQ Routes Editon'. But neither of these models have live traffic included. However, now that the irritation has been removed from the Spirit interface, the 300 makes a good budget choice, especially if you're a rush-hour traveller.

This 13.3in machine delivers on many levels. It's packed full of useful features, particularly that capacious 500GB hard drive, while the design is attractive - if a little showy. This is backed up by decent raw performance and excellent battery life. It's not quite the perfect bargain, but for £750 you couldn't ask for a great deal more.

The Samsung HMX-H104 doesn’t quite live up to the expectations created by the VP-HMX20. But that isn’t to say it’s a bad camcorder. Costing just over £400, it’s actually rather good value and certainly worth considering.

Thanks to a wider chassis, Samsung's latest N120 netbook gives you 2.1 speakers and a slightly bigger keyboard than the company's N110, but is otherwise identical in terms of specification to both that and the original NC10. Considering it demands a considerable premium over the latter, while the NC10 is still available most people will be better served getting that for £60 less.

It might not be cheap, but the Garmin Forerunner 405 is a powerful training device. Not only does it use GPS to track distance and log movement against time, but it can pair to accessories such as a heart-rate monitor to provide a wealth of data. The bundled software is good, and can overlay your route on Google Maps, where you can analyse your performance over differing terrain. If you've got the cash, and are interested in geeking-up your fitness regime, we can recommend the Garmin Forerunner 405.

Asus Eee PC 1008HA Seashell

Hardcore netbook users, who want the very best battery life possible for the least amount of cost, won't find the Eee PC 1008HA to their taste - not least due to the inaccessible battery. Yet, Asus has delivered a very refined and classy netbook without sacrificing functionality and this should be applauded. And, while it is expensive for a netbook, it delivers enough that it isn't extortionate. Thus, if you're after a little more refinement than regular netbooks can deliver, this is your best bet.
