Jesús Costazuela is Manolo's younger brother — handsome and romantic, with excellent posture and a flair for dramatic emotion. He is sensitive and sincere, bringing both charm and heart to every scene.

ABOUT THE SHOW

As Oro Valley Theatre Company celebrates its 10th Anniversary Season, it returns to the show that launched the company a decade ago — Neil Simon's hilarious The Odd Couple (Female Version). This fast-paced comedy follows the unlikely pairing of easygoing Olive Madison and the obsessively neat Florence Unger as they attempt to share an apartment after their marriages fall apart.

Filled with sharp wit, memorable characters, and one of the funniest dinner party scenes ever written, Simon's updated take on the classic comedy delivers nonstop laughs and heart. Whether you are discovering the show for the first time or revisiting an old favorite, The Odd Couple (Female Version) promises a delightful evening of comedy in celebration of OVTC's milestone season.

This Sundance audience-favorite documentary tells the story of Luis Valdez, who built El Teatro Campesino out of the California fields and turned the pachuco and the Zoot Suit Riots into influential American stage art. The premiere screening includes a post-show Q&A with director David Alvarado and producer Everett Katigbak, moderated by Carlos A. Gutiérrez of Cinema Tropical.

The classic 19th-century drama is streamlined into sharp, contemporary dialogue that highlights Nora's awakening. Preserving Ibsen's core themes of autonomy, marriage, and societal constraint, Herzog's adaptation makes Nora's struggle for self-liberation immediate and urgent.

Run time: 2 hours 15 minutes, including one 10-minute intermission.

ABOUT THE PRODUCTION

Henrik Ibsen, often called “The Father of Modern Drama,” wrote A Doll's House in 1879. Since then, it has become one of the world's most frequently translated and performed plays. Director Cynthia Meier's staging uses Amy Herzog's contemporary adaptation to explore what happens when the life we have built no longer fits the person we are becoming — asking what we owe to the people we love, and what we owe to ourselves.

This production is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Samuel French, Inc. Support is provided by the Arizona Commission on the Arts (with funding from the State of Arizona and the National Endowment for the Arts), the Arts Foundation for Tucson and Southern Arizona, the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona, and the Shubert Foundation.

Musical Director – Education Programs

(Part-Time Hourly Position)

Live Theatre Workshop is seeking an enthusiastic and collaborative Musical Director to join our Education team. This flexible, hourly position is a wonderful opportunity for someone looking for a rewarding side gig while helping students of all ages discover the joy of music and theatre.

At Live Theatre Workshop, we believe that theatre has the power to bring people together, build confidence, and create lifelong memories. We are looking for someone who shares our commitment to fostering a warm, welcoming, and accepting environment where every student feels valued and encouraged to grow.

Responsibilities

· Teach and lead vocal music for youth and adult classes, camps, and productions.

· Help students develop healthy vocal technique, musicality, and confidence.

· Collaborate with directors, choreographers, and education staff.

· Create an inclusive and supportive rehearsal atmosphere.

· Encourage creativity, teamwork, and a love of performing arts.

· Accompany rehearsals or provide rehearsal tracks as needed.

Qualifications

· Experience as a musical director, vocal coach, accompanist, or music educator.

· Strong piano skills are preferred.

· Passion for working with students of all ages and experience levels.

· Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

GOING IT ALONE

We'd love some hometown representation — submit today! The show is a collection of monologues chosen from submissions, celebrating the unique challenge of writing for a solo performer and performing solo.

Submission Guidelines

• Must be a solo piece.

• Must be a standalone monologue — not a monologue excerpted from a full-length play you've written.

• Open to all playwrights worldwide.

• Only one (1) submission accepted per playwright.

• Performance length of the piece cannot exceed 7 minutes. No exceptions.

• Any topic.

• Please be sure your name and email address appear on the title page.

• Monologues only — the piece must require just one actor on stage.

• 10–12 monologues will be selected.

• A small honorarium will be paid to chosen playwrights.

• Selected monologues will be cast, performed, and directed by Tucson theatre artists.

About the Show

With time running out to renew their lease, the women of the beleaguered New Bunion Historical Society must find creative ways to snare new members and lure visitors to their sleepy New England town. When a set of George Washington’s dentures turns up in the hands of an unexpected rival, the ladies of the society brace themselves for all-out war. Heartfelt and historic, this farce proves that our differences don’t divide us — they make us strong.

Role Descriptions

• Hester Bunion: Older female. President and oldest member of the New Bunion Historical Society.

• Ann Mather: Female, 50s or up. One-time trophy wife of a wealthy townsman.

• Edie Plotz: Middle-aged female. Florist and narcoleptic; an expert on all affairs of the town.

• Jess Wilder: College-aged female. Nonconformist.

• Louisa Tye: 50s or up, Black female. Descendant of New Bunion settlers; scholar.

• Mayor Ronald Rice, Big Jim & Announcer: Male, any age, capable of creating three distinct character voices. Does not appear onstage — voice-over only — but the role will be performed live rather than pre-recorded.

• Cold readings and stage movement direction

• A short monologue, one minute maximum — bring your own, or one will be provided

• You may attend either or both audition nights

Ballet Tucson's 2026-27 season celebrates 40 years of Southern Arizona's only professional ballet company. Under Artistic Director Margaret Mullin, the season embraces the future as much as the milestone — featuring two world premieres, company premieres of works by George Balanchine, Justin Peck, and Andrea Schermoly, and the return of audience favorite Spirit Garden.

Steps Forward opens the season on September 11, followed by Spirit Garden (Oct 23-25), The Nutcracker (Dec 18-20), Carmen (Feb 26-28, 2027), and Appalachian Spring (Apr 9-11, 2027).

About the Play

It's 2004. Low-rise jeans reign supreme, AIM away messages are works of art, and 14-year-old Shelby Hinkley is obsessed with one thing and one thing only: Tobey Maguire.

With her dad out of the picture, her mom totally oblivious, and her classmates treating her like a social outcast, Shelby has poured her entire soul into running the most devout Tobey Maguire fan club the internet has ever seen. President, activities director, and sole true believer.

But liking Tobey Maguire is not enough. No, Shelby has a plan — an absolutely foolproof, completely rational, no-notes plan: kidnap him and then marry him in her basement.

What could possibly go wrong? Well… turns out, a lot.

Position Overview

The Lighting, Sound & Projections Director serves as the primary liaison between lighting, sound, and projection designers and all other production departments across ATC's unique two-city operation. This department head is responsible for coordinating, planning, budgeting, maintaining, and implementing all lighting, sound, and projection needs for both the 635-seat Temple of Music and Art in Tucson and the 550-seat Tempe Center for the Arts in Tempe/Phoenix.

A member of the production department director team, this position represents the electrics, sound, and projections departments to production management and ATC leadership. The role directly supervises five staff members and leads IATSE over-hire crews across both venues.

Key Responsibilities

Experience & Qualifications

Planning & Department Operations

• Plan, organize, and run the lighting, sound, and projection department in both cities

• Assign daily work tasks and supervise timekeeping of all LS&P stagehands

• Coordinate and supervise all over-hire and IATSE stagehand calls with production management

• Maintain department budgets and daily bookkeeping; lead cost estimates and purchasing/rental within budget

• Supervise departmental inventory; manage equipment allocation between overlapping productions and both venues

Production & Design

• Serve as liaison between lighting, sound, and projection designers and all production departments

• Ensure artistic integrity of all designs throughout run of show in both Tucson and Tempe/Phoenix

• Coordinate interdepartmental design elements; respond to rehearsal reports and notes promptly

• Take notes from guest designers and communicate needs; attend all production and tech meetings

Events, Transfers & Administration

• Participate in planning for presentations, special events, and third-party rentals

• Coordinate with stage management to schedule actor recording sessions

• Collaborate with production management on Equity atmospherics compliance

• Communicate capital equipment upgrade needs; update and maintain all departmental documentation

• Provide mentorship and professional development for all five direct reports

Technical Knowledge

Position Overview

The Properties Director serves as the primary liaison between the Scenic Designer, the properties department, the artists, and all other production departments. This department head is responsible for coordinating, planning, maintaining, and implementing all properties needs across ATC's two-city operation — Tucson at the Temple of Music and Art and Tempe/Phoenix at the Tempe Center for the Arts.

A member of the production department director team, this position represents the properties department to production management and ATC leadership. The role requires deep artistic sensibility — the ability to translate a Scenic Designer's vision into proactive, well-executed prop selection and fabrication across a five-show season.

Tucson Improv Movement is premiering two brand-new shows this Saturday night. Improv Party Swap takes eight improvisers, randomly pairs them into four teams, and lets the audience watch the results unfold. Comedy Triathlon combines all three comedy arts in a single show: stand-up, a written sketch, and a full improv set. Both shows are one-night experiments — come see them and help decide whether they return.

This week is full of fun! On Friday at 7:30 pm, founding house team Not Burnt Out Just Unscrewed brings quick-wit short-form games, followed by the amazing game show Make Me Laugh at 9:00 pm. Then on Saturday, the August theme show RECESS celebrates teachers — who get in FREE with school ID!

Friday: NBOJU & Make Me Laugh

Not Burnt Out Just Unscrewed (7:30 pm, Family-Friendly) opens the night with fast-paced improv games for the whole family.

Then at 9:00 pm, three contestants — the Joculators Maximi — battle it out in spontaneous improv challenges, Honk-Honk head-to-heads, and Wiggle Waggle exploits of intellect, creativity, and ingenuity. Prompted by the Judge's Minion, they'll try to impress The Judge, aka Arbiter Risus, with non-stop laughs and unexpected twists as they compete for the title of Dominus Inparatus. The audience might even win a prize!

Make Me Laugh — Uncensored — Friday, 9:00 pm

Saturday: RECESS!! — August Theme Show

RECESS!! is a teacher-appreciation improv show, and everyone is invited to come celebrate their favorite teacher. Have a wild story (no real names!) to share? The show partners with Treasures 4 Teachers of Tucson, and tickets are just $10 to support local teachers — with prizes to be won.

Sarah Ruhl — one of America's most celebrated playwrights — takes a deliciously provocative premise and turns it into something luminous: a play about intimacy, marriage, desire, and the very human longing to truly connect with another person. It is witty and warm, poetic and playful, and by the end, unexpectedly moving.

This Tony-nominated, Pulitzer Prize finalist play is not one to miss. The production features a stellar Tucson cast including Hannah Turner, Josh Parra, Allison Akmajian, Sean Patrick, Kat Basso, Taylor Rascher, and Tanisha Ray, with scenic design by Todd and Silken Poelstra, costumes by Maryann Trombino, lighting by James Blair, and sound by Rob Boone.

Charles Isherwood praised the play in his New York Times review as insightful, fresh, and funny — noting that it is richly observant in both thought and feeling.

MEET THE PLAYWRIGHTS

Adrian Cory

A UK expat active in Tucson's theatrical community, Adrian's plays have been produced on stage and radio, including Social Outcast (Canal Café Theatre, London), The Knight of Malta (Manhattan Repertory Theatre, NYC), and Terror on Edge Island (Narada Radio Company). He recently won Best Drama for Don't Feed the Troll at the 2026 Tucson Fringe.

Jeffrey A. Webster

A long-time stage actor and Coast Guard veteran now writing scripts and a historical novel about the maritime underground railroad. His full-length play Killing to the Sound of Trumpets had a staged reading in North Hollywood in April 2026.

Liisa Rose

A member of the Dramatists Guild with an MA in theatre education (University of Arizona) and an MFA in playwriting (SNHU), Liisa has developed work with Old Pueblo Playwrights, Carport Theatre, Fusion Theatre, and Returning Soldiers Speak.

Mel Hector

A Clinical Associate Professor practicing geriatrics via telemedicine at the University of Arizona, Mel draws on his healthcare experience for plays including St. Beseenya and Cecelia's Plight, the latter inspired by a late friend and Bisbee, Arizona native.

ABOUT OLD PUEBLO PLAYWRIGHTS

Old Pueblo Playwrights (OPP) is the Southwest's oldest independent playwriting group, welcoming both beginning and experienced dramatists. Members' work is read at weekly meetings and refined through feedback, culminating each year in a New Play Festival — and, this year for the first time, the Green Valley Play Festival. Weekly meetings are held both in person and over Zoom and are open to the public.
