Winding Road Theatre is back this May with Eight 10s in Tucson, our annual festival of eight original ten-minute plays, all brought together in one fast, surprising, and deeply human evening of theatre. Each piece offers something different, funny, bold, unexpected, sometimes a little strange, and together they create a night that moves quickly and lingers long after the lights come up.

This year feels especially meaningful as we return in collaboration with Live Theatre Workshop, Scoundrel & Scamp, and Pima Community College Theatre Arts, a coming-together of Tucson’s creative community to support new work and new voices.

Join us May 21–24 at Scoundrel & Scamp Theatre and be part of this celebration of storytelling, connection, and what happens when artists take risks.

MASON	Hey dude, I know that this pays 500 — but are you sure? This seems a little shad—
MICHEAL	Yes Mason. I'm sure he probably just needs a ditch dug or something. He seemed old in his post.
MASON	Old? How can you tell on a post if someone is old?
MICHEAL	Well like he started it with "To Whom It May Concern."
MASON	I don't think that means he's old.
MICHEAL	Oh yeah, totally a hip and young guy.
MASON	Well, like he just seems polite to me.
	(A black SUV pulls up playing music. Two men wave them over. Tension builds.)
MASON	Dude, I have a seriously bad feeling about this.
MICHEAL	(Dismissive) Just shut up — we're professionals. Relax.
	(The men open the trunk to reveal a rolled rug with a body inside.)

Known as "Toto," Antonio is a prolific Tucson indie filmmaker who has written, directed, produced, and edited nearly 20 projects. His films have screened at the Loft Cinema's First Friday Shorts series, including award-winning work. He brings long tracking shots, naturalistic dialogue, and ambitious genre concepts to every project.

Wesley Peterson — Co-Director

A collaborator in the Toto's Fun Time Studios circle, Peterson appeared in The Toto Doc (2025). Side Hustle marks his co-directing debut.

An active Tucson micro-studio producing comedy, mystery, sci-fi, and fantasy shorts distributed on YouTube and submitted to regional film festivals.

CASTING CALL FOR STUNT SHOW PERFORMERS

Over 200 performers in 26 years have graced the streets of Trail Dust Town. Now it’s your turn.

The Pistoleros Wild West Show is seeking physically fit actors and performers for part-time, paid positions in our live outdoor stunt production. This is a unique opportunity to join a celebrated ensemble with more than two decades of tradition in America’s most celebrated Wild West show venue. If you are athletic, fearless, and passionate about performance, we want to hear from you.

Performance Requirements

Applicants must be prepared for a highly physical role. Show duties include, but are not limited to:

High-impact falls and stunts, including falls from heights up to 25 feet
Running, jumping, and acrobatic movement
Landing, falling, and rolling on both hard and soft surfaces
Lifting and supporting other performers
Working at height and in elevated staging environments
Handling and performing with blank-fire firearms and edged stage weapons
Working with and around explosive pyrotechnic effects
Performing outdoors in variable weather conditions
Responding to musical and verbal cues while in physical exertion
Projecting voice clearly and audibly under demanding physical conditions

Eligibility & Physical Standards

All applicants must meet the following baseline criteria:

Must be at least 18 years of age
Must be in good physical health with no known limitations to the performance requirements described above
Male applicants: minimum height 5‘0”, maximum weight 200 lbs.
Female applicants: minimum height 5‘5”, maximum weight 145 lbs.
Must possess appropriate vision or be willing to wear corrective contact lenses (eyeglasses are prohibited for safety and theatrical reasons)
Must be willing to work weekends and holidays

Professional Standards

The Pistoleros is a family-friendly show presented in a historically themed environment. All performers are considered public representatives of the show and are expected to uphold the following standards at all times, including at performance venues, in public, and on social media:

Victorian/Old West grooming standards: no unnaturally colored hair, radical hairstyles, or visible tattoos
No jewelry worn during performances (safety requirement)
Consistent family-friendly conduct and public presence in accordance with Pistoleros standards

Federal Licensing Requirement

Pistoleros performances incorporate explosive pyrotechnic effects that require federal ATF certification. All selected performers must be willing to submit to the required federal background check as a condition of employment.

About the Play

Twenty-two years in the future, honeybees are nearly extinct—kept alive only inside sterile laboratory environments. Zora is overqualified for her new lab job, but she loves bees, or what is left of them. When an unfortunate incident leads to a sudden boost in the bees’ numbers, Zora and her coworker Pilar must decide just how far they’re willing to go to keep the population growing.

Part eco-thriller, part philosophical reckoning, The Apiary asks urgent questions about climate change, bodily autonomy, and scientific ethics—wrapped in a story at once intimate and sweeping. The play drifts from the naturalistic into the poetic and magical, holding space for many lenses at once.

About the Playwright

Kate Douglas is an American playwright and graduate of the Experimental Theatre Wing at NYU Tisch School of the Arts. The Apiary received its world premiere as part of Second Stage Theater’s inaugural Next Stage Festival in New York, which spotlights early-career playwrights, where it was directed by Kate Whoriskey (Sweat, Clyde’s, Ruined) and featured a cast that included Taylor Schilling. The play was praised for its resonant exploration of ecological crisis and human moral complexity.

About the Production

Big Broadway energy comes to the Marroney Theatre as TFTV presents Jerry's Girls, a dazzling, women-centered revue celebrating the iconic music of composer and lyricist Jerry Herman. Performed by the next generation of stage talent, this dynamic revue highlights the broad spectrum of thrilling material Herman wrote specifically for female performers.

This fast-paced revue features all the best songs and crowd favorites from such immortal musicals as Mame, Hello Dolly!, Milk and Honey, Mack and Mabel, A Day in Hollywood / A Night in the Ukraine, and La Cage Aux Folles.

Jerry's Girls is the 2025-26 season finale for TFTV's Performance Season, showcasing BFA and BA students in acting, musical theatre, and the school's newest program, Live and Screened Performance. Season Artistic Director: Christie Kerr. TFTV Director: Dr. Frances Gateward.

About the Showcase

The BFA Acting & Musical Theatre Class of 2026 Showcase is the capstone presentation of the UA School of Theatre, Film & Television's BFA graduating class — an industry-facing showcase designed to introduce the next generation of professional stage talent to agents, casting directors, and the broader theatrical community.

Each year, TFTV brings agents, professional designers, and production specialists to campus to view the work of graduating actors and designers. The Showcase provides graduating students direct access to industry professionals and a concrete next step into their professional careers.

The 2026 Showcase will be released publicly online on April 28 at showcase.tftv.arizona.edu. An exclusive, in-person big-screen screening will follow on Wednesday, May 5 at 7 PM in the newly renovated Marroney Theatre — TFTV's 311-seat proscenium house, equipped with state-of-the-art screening technology.

About Jerry Herman

Jerry Herman (1931–2019) was one of Broadway's most beloved composers and lyricists, creator of three of the longest-running shows in Broadway history: Hello, Dolly! (1964), Mame (1966), and La Cage Aux Folles (1983). His music is defined by irresistible melody, theatrical flair, and enduring optimism.

Among his most celebrated female anthems: Hello, Dolly!, Before the Parade Passes By, It Only Takes a Moment, We Need a Little Christmas, If He Walked Into My Life, and I Am What I Am.

About UA School of Theatre, Film & Television

About the Production

The Invisible Theatre's 54th season concludes with a delectable foray into musical theatre — Noël Coward's Oh, Coward!, a delightfully intimate revue devised by Roderick Cook. Three performers, accompanied by piano, weave together Coward's most beloved songs and sketches into an unforgettable evening of wit, style, and song.

Coward's songs and sketches about British high and low society, the "theatah", mad dogs, Englishmen, and other noteworthy subjects sparkle with the Master's dry-as-a-martini wit. His effervescent music and charming quips combine for an evening of some of the most memorable tunes of the twentieth century — a celebration of one of theatre's greatest entertainers.

Oh, Coward! originally opened Off-Broadway in 1972, running for 294 performances, and has since become a beloved fixture of the intimate cabaret-theatre tradition worldwide. This production marks a rare Tucson staging of this witty, warm revue in the ideal setting: an eighty-seat house where performer and audience are inseparably close.

Oh, Coward! was devised by Roderick Cook and originally produced Off-Broadway in 1972, running for 294 performances. About Santa Cruz Shoestring Players

The Santa Cruz Shoestring Players are Green Valley's community theatre company, dedicated to bringing high-quality theatre to the Santa Cruz Valley and surrounding communities. The company produces a variety of plays — comedies, dramas, mysteries, and musicals — each season at the Community Performance & Art Center (CPAC). Productions range from world premieres of original works by Shoestring regulars to beloved classics and award-winning scripts.

About the Shoestring Summer Showcase

The Shoestring Summer Showcase is the culminating performance of Shoestring's new Director's Workshop, where seasoned Shoestring directors, crew leads, and actors mentor emerging artists from Green Valley, Sahuarita, Tucson, and neighboring communities. Through hands-on workshops, participants build skills in directing, performance, and stagecraft, then put those skills into practice by staging a collection of short plays and musicals.

This summer showcase celebrates bold ideas, shared storytelling, and the joy of trying something new — filling the summer slot with fresh voices and plenty of Shoestring heart. Anyone is welcome to join the acting workshops and audition for the showcase productions.

Becoming Billy • World Premiere at Mescal Movie Set

Tomorrow — Saturday, April 18, 2026 • 5:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Tomorrow evening, the legendary Mescal Movie Set in Benson, Arizona will become the site of something that has never happened before in its long and storied history: a film premiere. And not just any film — but the world debut of Becoming Billy, a short Western drama shot on the very ground where it will be screened.

From 5 to 9 p.m., guests will step through the gates of one of the American Southwest’s most iconic filming locations — the backdrop for Tombstone, The Outlaw Josey Wales, The Quick and the Dead, and dozens of other landmark Western productions — and into an immersive evening of cinema, history, and live music.

The Film

Becoming Billy — An Outriding the Devil Origin Story is the work of Tucson-based writer and director Raen LeVell, a multi-award-winning filmmaker best known for Buffalo Daze. Drawing on historical research by acclaimed Western historian Bob Boze Bell of True West Magazine, the short film travels back to 1875 to explore one of the enduring questions of American frontier mythology: how did Henry McCarty — an orphaned Irish teenager with few prospects and fewer friends — become the legendary outlaw known to history as Billy the Kid?

The film stars Golden Garnick (1923) in the title role, with deliberate attention to McCarty’s Irish immigrant roots — including authentic accent and period colloquialisms largely absent from popular portrayals of the character. Chancey Williams, a saddle bronc champion turned CMT No. 1 country artist, makes his big-screen debut as Sheriff Harvey Whitehill, alongside Roberta Sparta (Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi) as Sarah Brown. The production was filmed on location at Mescal itself, including the hotel, livery, jail, the Young Riders set, and Virgil Earp’s house from Tombstone.

The Evening

Guests will enjoy self-guided tours of the set, walking the same ground once walked by Clint Eastwood, Paul Newman, Steve McQueen, Sam Elliott, Kurt Russell, Leonardo DiCaprio, and the many other legends whose work was shaped by this remarkable location. The saloon made famous by The Quick and the Dead will serve as the venue for a cast meet-and-greet with Williams and fellow cast members.

The main program will open with the world premiere screening of Becoming Billy, followed by screenings of two companion historical dramatizations — Quanah and Angela — produced for LeVell’s feature-length docudrama Outriding the Devil. A panel discussion with the filmmakers and cast will follow the screenings.

The evening will conclude with an intimate acoustic concert by Chancey Williams, whose authentic cowboy sound and Wyoming-rooted style promises a fitting close to a night rooted in the living traditions of the American West.

The Larger Story

Becoming Billy serves as an origin story and prologue to Outriding the Devil, LeVell’s feature-length docudrama chronicling the remarkable life of Angela Ganter — world champion barrel racer, Texas Rodeo Hall of Famer, and stage 4 breast cancer survivor. Hailed as “Masterful” by the Houston Chronicle and “An unbelievable true story” by Sports Illustrated, the documentary premiered at the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas and features narration by Forrie J. Smith (Yellowstone) and a soundtrack by Grammy-nominated artist Radney Foster. Its Arizona premiere follows one week later, on April 25, at Pollack Tempe Cinemas, with a Q&A featuring LeVell and cast members including Ned LeDoux.

Tomorrow night’s event will mark the first film premiere in Mescal Movie Set’s history — a fitting milestone for a location that has shaped the visual language of the American Western for generations.

TUCSON, Ariz. – The University of Arizona School of Theatre, Film & Television (TFTV) proudly presents the 21st edition of I Dream in Widescreen, its annual showcase of senior thesis films and a celebrated launchpad for emerging filmmakers. Consistently ranked among the Top 5 public film schools in the nation, TFTV will host this year’s event on Saturday, May 9, at 7 p.m. at the Fox Tucson Theatre.

This year’s showcase features appearances by acclaimed actors Jon Proudstar (Reservation Dogs) and TFTV alum Craig T. Nelson (Coach, The Incredibles, Parenthood), highlighting the strength and industry reach of the program’s rising talent.

Frankly, I have no idea how this will work. That's why I will probably schedule a trial Zoom meeting on Sunday. I think our regular Zoom link can go out. Like with the Portal, I won't input the link from the email. (If you remember, I typed it into both Portals before every meeting.) But I THINK the Echo Show allows me to give a voice command to Alexa to join a meeting. (I'll probably do that and instead get Celine Dion's greatest hits.)

About the Play

Home, I'm Darling received its world premiere at Theatr Clwyd, Wales in June 2018. It transferred to the Dorfman Theatre at the National Theatre, London and then to the West End's Duke of York's Theatre in January 2019.

The production won the Olivier Award for Best New Comedy at the 2019 Laurence Olivier Awards — the UK's most prestigious theatre honor. It received four additional nominations including Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress, Best Set Design, and Best Costume Design.

The play has since been produced in Australia, toured the UK, and continues to receive productions internationally.

About the Playwright

Laura Wade is an English playwright and screenwriter. Trained at Bristol University and the Royal Court Theatre Young Writers' Programme, she has written for the Royal Court, National Theatre, Chichester Festival Theatre, and Sydney Opera House, among others.

Her plays include Posh (Royal Court/West End), The Watsons (Chichester/Menier Chocolate Factory), Colder Than Here (Soho Theatre/MCC New York), Breathing Corpses (Royal Court), and Tipping the Velvet (Lyric Hammersmith). Her film work includes The Riot Club.

Wade's awards include the Olivier Award for Best New Comedy (2019), Critics' Circle Award for Most Promising Playwright, the Pearson Best Play Award, and the George Devine Award.
