What is Go By Bike Day?

Go By Bike Day is a one-day event in February every year where thousands of Kiwis ditch their cars or trains and buses – and cycle to work or school.

The Go By Bike Day will be on Wednesday, 16 February 2011.

TahuFM will be at one of the breakfast stops set up by the Community Public Health for Go By Bike Day between 8am – 9am in front of the boat shed, by Christchurch Public Hospital… stop by on your way to work, school or your bike ride for some free on the go breakfasts…

For more information on Go By Bike Day, and Biking Month click on the following link Bike Wise

Thank you to Debbie Rawiri & Maureen from the Diabetes Centre for the invitiation to support the Go By Bike Day . The message for this event is to ditch your cars / bus fare contributing to fuel costs and fuel up with breakfast, a piece of toast/fruit etc (which is less than $1.99 per litre) and bike to work. The costs for fuel / parking can cost up to $20 a day and more… by biking as your means of transport not only saves you money but the health benefits are amazing not only for yourself but the environment!!

Keep checking the bike wise website for details of other events in your rohe (region)!!

At the boat shed stop.. where fruit, yoghurt, health bars were provided they also had a bike blender to pedal yourself a smoothie.. check out this pic.. of Paora Rangiwhetu our TahuFM Ara Ake DJ.. smoothie ingredients, trim milk, yoghurt & banana!!

Tēnā koutou e te marea!! yes, I can at least say that i have completed the 12 week challenge.

It was an absolute blast and i enjoyed everyday challenging myself to utilise my brain. Learning a language is pretty scary, especially if you are a total beginner. So i salute everyone who gave the ‘reo’ a go. Every week we were given 5 challenges, for 12 weeks it was intense / chilling / easy / mind blowing all at the same time. It wasnt about who could speak māori the best, or who could finish the weeks challenge the fastest. It was all about giving the māori language a go and learning / challenging yourself at your own pace.

I definitely had to challenge myself, as some of the tasks were pretty hard. I was never the best at doing home work or studying in class, i found it frustrating because i thought that i had to compete with my class mates. This time round, i was able to complete the tasks at a pace i could handle ‘my own pace’. The KMK 12 Week challenge has to be the best way ‘hands down’ to learn te reo māori!

There are even stories / shows that i never knew existed, like ‘Sponge Bob square pants’ – thats now all in te reo māori. A very entertaining and healthy way to get use to hearing te reo being spoken, and a great distraction for the iramutu!!.

If i had to find a way to learn te reo, i would start with the KMK 12 Week challenge.

Its not too late to register , haere ki te whārangi ipurangi o KMK!!! Whēroki mai.xxoo
