Dangerous Cities In The World: 10awesome.com - www.10awesome.com/10-dangerous-cities-in-the-world/

At number six, here is the accolade:

6. Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Malaysia also takes pride in its spectacular landscapes, a culture that begs to be discovered and explored and… a history of violence that made way too many victims. Presently, the state’s capital is said to be one of the most dangerous cities in the world, as the crime rate increased with 70% in the last three years. It wasn’t a peace on Earth display before either, but now things seem to keep getting worse.

KUALA LUMPUR (June 16, 2013): A 55-year-old
man was stabbed to death by an unknown assailant following a heated
argument near Berjaya Times Square on Jalan Imbi today.

Wong Fook Lum of Petaling Jaya who died of a stab wound on his right
chest was found slumped in his Mercedes Benz by police who were alerted
by a bystander.

An ice-cream company delivery man who witnessed the attack told
police that at about 11am, he spotted Wong and another man embroiled in a
argument on Jalan 1/77B.

He said minutes later, Wong was seen getting into his car and his
suspected killer who was brandishing a knife followed him into the
vehicle.

However, moments later the assailant alighted from the car and walked
towards a street behind Sungai Wang Plaza. The witness also told police
that the slim and small built man continued loitering in the vicinity
of the area. However, he was nowhere to be seen when police arrived.

Dang Wangi police chief ACP Zainuddin Ahmad said police are on the
lookout for the unidentified assailant and are investigating the motive
behind the murder.

He said the victim's body was sent to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital for a
post mortem and urged those who have information on the whereabouts of
his killer to call the KL police hotline at 03-2115 9999.

The man was one of the closest uncles of my friend. Gang robs 70 people

A gang of 10 robbers held up 70 customers of a popular steamboat
eatery in Taman Mutiara Barat, Cheras in Kuala Lumpur on early Sunday
morning and relieved them of their money and valuables.

In the 4.30am robbery on Sunday, the robbers fled with RM20,000 from them.

Two of the victims had reported the robbery to Cheras district police.
They told police the suspects arrived at the restaurant in two cars and
several motorcycles.

They said the suspects blocked both end of Jalan Mutiara Raya before
rounding up the customers, mostly pub goers who were having their meals
outside the restaurant, and order them to surrender their cash and
valuables.

Cheras police confirmed two of the victims had reported the robbery
them. They are seeking others to come forward to make their reports.

News about this 'brave' robbery was also brought up by Tony Pua, MP of Petaling Jaya Utara.

KUALA LUMPUR, June 13 — The recent spate of robberies in the Klang
Valley have again placed Putrajaya’s anti-crime policies under the
spotlight and highlights the need to reform the police force, the DAP’s
Tony Pua said today.

Last Saturday, nearly 70 people were robbed at an open air steamboat
restaurant in Cheras by a group of 10 persons armed with machetes and
iron rods. The shop owners and patrons lost more than RM20,000 and at
least 2 of the customers were assaulted as a result of being too tardy
with coughing up with their valuables.

Over the past 2 nights, there were 2 incidences of armed gang
robberies carried out at open air restaurants in Kepong, Cheras and
Kajang on each night despite the police claiming to have detain three
suspects yesterday afternoon.

<ins style="border: 0px none; display: inline-table; height: 200px; position: relative; width: 200px;"><ins style="border: 0px none; display: block; height: 200px; position: relative; width: 200px;"></ins></ins>

“Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Najib Razak himself promised Malaysias a
‘war against crime’ on Saturday when launching the ‘United Against
Crime’ programme with much fanfare.

“The newly appointed Inspector General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Khalid
Abu Bakar proudly announced on his appointment date on May 16 that he
wants to make safety and security his priority and return the streets to
the people.

“But where is this “war against crime?” Pua, who is also Petaling Jaya Utara MP, said in a statement.

The DAP leader added that the robberies were akin to the criminals
“thumbing their noses” at the authorities when they were allowed to rob 2
eateries and then proceeded to enjoy and “binge” themselves at a local
pub.

The pub was also robbed after the group refused to pay.

Pua said the government has the moral duty to admit the shortcomings
in its anti-crime policies, adding that they could no longer dismiss
rising crime as a mere “perception”.

“If the Prime Minister and the new IGP is serious about this ‘war
against crime’, they must implement the key recommendations of the 2005
Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) recommendations for the Royal
Malaysian Police,” he said.

However, Pua noted that the Najib administration has so far ignored
most of the recommendations including the refusal to establish
the Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC).

The Petaling Jaya MP also highlighted the force’s slow move to
restructure the police resources and focus in crime fighting, a second
key recommendation of the RCI.

The lack of and unbalanced manpower management have often been cited
as the key facto behind the police’s ineffectiveness in curbing crime.
The problem was also highlighted in the findings of the RCI.

“We hope that under the new Home Minister, Datuk Seri Zahid Hamidi,
the Government will no longer deem the severity of the crime issue being
a matter of ‘public perception’.

“Rampant crime is real, Malaysians do not feel safe and the only
perception of crime that needs to change is that belonging to the
Barisan Nasional government,” Pua said.

of cars where prices have been reduced.KUALA LUMPUR, June
13 — Carmakers Volkswagen and Peugeot have both refuted claims of a
price slash this year, as reported in Umno-backed broadsheet Utusan Malaysia three days ago as part of proof that the ruling coalition had fulfilled its election pledges.

Utusan had reported that Volkswagen, Peugeot, Honda and
local marques Proton and Perodua had reduced the prices for 10 of their
models by up to 11 per cent from January this year, presenting the list
as proof that the Barisan Nasional (BN) government has fulfilled its
pledge for lower car prices in its Election 2013 manifesto.

“Please be advised, the price on the image is incorrect. The Golf
price has always been RM157,888 from the time of launch. Not RM169,888,”
a representative from Volkswagen Malaysia commented on its Facebook
page, referring to its sports hatchback model Golf.

A user had previously posted an image of Utusan’s report, which claimed that the Golf’s price has been slashed by 7.1 per cent from RM169,888 to RM157,888.

Speaking to The Malaysian Insider, a dealer for the German
marque confirmed that the Mark 7 1.4 TSI version of the Golf, which was
launched earlier this year has always been priced starting from
RM157,888.

Peugeot Malaysia also has responded on its Facebook page to the claim
by Utusan that the price of its 308 model has been slashed by 11 per
cent from RM115,663 to RM102,888.

“Without prejudice, nothing was issued by us, we were not consulted
before the article went to print and have no association with the news
contained therein. The prices shown appear to be the 308 Turbo
pre-facelift and 308 VTi which are in fact two different variants of the
Peugeot 308,” said the French marque.

A dealer for Peugeot told The Malaysian Insider that the
facelifted 308 VTi has always been priced at RM102,888 since it was
launched in the middle of last year, and its 308 Turbo variant is priced
at RM121,888.

Utusan also claimed that a Honda Jazz Hybrid now costs RM89,900 after a 2.5 per cent reduction from RM92,187.

A check with the Japanese marque confirmed that the completely
knocked-down (CKD) version of the model assembled in its Alor Gajah
plant has always been sold at RM89,900 since its launch late last year.
The completely built-up (CBU) version released previously costs
RM94,800.

The Malay daily also reported further price cuts for local models
Persona, Preve, Saga and Exora from Proton, and Alza, Viva and Myvi from
Perodua.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has reiterated his polls pledge
to reduce car prices in a tweet late last month, promising that car
prices will be reduced in stages until 2017.

On the same day, International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri
Mustapa Mohamed also said that the government had promised to trim car
prices between 20 and 30 per cent over five years, as outlined in BN’s
election manifesto.

“In fact, since October last year, the price of 10 popular models in
the country have come down an average 7.3 per cent,” he told reporters
after attending the ministry’s monthly gathering, the first after
Mustapa was re-appointed to the Cabinet.

Both BN and opposition Pakatan Rakyat have pledged cheaper car prices
in the run up to the May polls, although through different mechanisms.

TOWN, June 12 ― Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng today commended
Datuk Seri Nazir Razak for his outspokenness, even as the CIMB Group
boss continues to come under attack for defending AirAsia X CEO Azran
Osman Rani for the same trait.

Lim urged Malaysians to emulate Nazir in speaking their minds despite the risk of backlash.

“I hope his brother (Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak) can be
just as brave as him,” he said while condemning a news article in Utusan
Malaysia that had labelled Nazir as “anti-Malay” for his praise of
Azran.

<ins style="border: 0px none; display: inline-table; height: 200px; position: relative; width: 200px;"><ins style="border: 0px none; display: block; height: 200px; position: relative; width: 200px;"></ins></ins>

Azran had criticised Utusan Malaysia for an inflammatory headline,
“Apa lagi Cina mau?”, which it ran immediately after the Election 2013.
This led to the newspaper to take aim at him and proclaim a boycott
against advertising from the airline that he helms.

On Monday, Nazir defended Azran for his forthright attitude, saying
that this is the “mark of a leader”, leading to attacks against the
banker.

Lim also accused Utusan Malaysia today of turning Malaysians on one another through what he called racially-toned articles.

“Malaysians do not want to be enemies with each other so I hope more
Malaysians will be like Nazir,” the DAP secretary-general said in a
press conference at his office this afternoon.

Malay-Muslim groups have criticised both Nazir and Azran for their
views, branding both of them as “anti-Malay” and for forgetting “their
roots”.

Yesterday, the Muslim Consumer Association of Malaysia had in a
statement reminded Nazir and Azran of their roots and told them not to
be arrogant because of their wealth, position and property.

In a blog post reproduced by Umno-owned Utusan Malaysia today, former
information minister Tan Sri Zainuddin Maidin accused Nazri of plunging
brother Najib and Umno deeper into a post-polls “crisis of confidence”
by coming to Azran’s defence.

He said Nazir, the CEO of CIMB Group and the younger brother to Prime
Minister Najib, had likely thought that Barisan Nasional (BN) would
recapture some of lost support from the Chinese had Utusan Malaysia not
targeted the community.

“But in truth, Nazir only added to the problems faced by Datuk Seri
Najib and Umno,” the former minister said in a blog posting that was
published in Utusan Malaysia today.

Zainuddin further asked if labelling Azran forthright and frank meant
Nazir was joining the ranks of those who have accused Utusan Malaysia
of being racist.

Zainuddin went on to justify Utusan’s “brave” backing of Umno in
fighting off the rival elements that have eroded public confidence in
the government, which he said had opened the newspaper to financial
risks.

LUMPUR, June 10 — Once scorched for speaking his mind, Azran Osman Rani
earned high praise today from CIMB Group CEO Datuk Seri Nazir Razak,
who commended the AirAsia X chief executive’s forthright manner as the
“mark of a leader”.
The captain of the long-haul budget airline, which will be making its
market debut next month, had been the public target of Umno-owned Utusan Malaysia’s
venom for much of last month, after he criticised the Malay broadsheet
for what he saw as racial instigation in the aftermath of the May 5
polls that split the country apart.
Nazir, the lead banker for AirAsia X’s listing on Malaysia’s main
bourse, praised Azran for speaking his mind and doing what he believed
was the right thing.

<ins style="border: 0px none; display: inline-table; height: 200px; position: relative; width: 200px;"><ins style="border: 0px none; display: block; height: 200px; position: relative; width: 200px;"></ins></ins>

“That is the mark of a leader,” Nazir said at AirAsia X’s prospectus launch here this morning.
The remarks appeared to be in reference to Azran’s run-in with Utusan
Malaysia, although Nazir made no specific mention of the newspaper.
The younger brother to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak added
that it was these qualities in the airline’s management team which had
seen it register a 70 per cent annual growth in its revenues since it
launched its first flight in November 2007.
Azran had come under the right-wing daily’s hammer last month after
criticising Utusan on his Twitter account, @azranosmanrani, for what he
reportedly saw as a racial instigation in the aftermath of the May 5
polls.
He was also reported to have criticised Malay group Perkasa for its
hardline stance as an irrelevant organisation that had caused Malays to
be myopic.
In response, the paper had published daily views from Perkasa
leaders, the Muslim Consumers Society of Malaysia and pro-Umno activists
who slammed Azran, branding him “arrogant” and a Malay who had
forgotten his roots.
AirAsia X chairman Tan Sri Rafizah Aziz and director Datuk Seri
Kalimullah Hassan had also come under attack from various groups after
the duo had defended Azran’s comments.
Self-declared Malay rights champion Perkasa, the Ex-Servicemen
Association of Malaysia, Malaysian Reformists Movement and the Malaysian
Malay Network were among the groups that lashed out at both Rafidah and
Kalimullah and demanded the duo apologise for their remarks against
Utusan which they say is the voice of the Malays.
Perkasa’s acting president Datuk Abdul Rahman Bakar had rallied to
the paper’s defence and blasted Azran, saying the latter could not have
climbed up to his present position without the “Malay power fought for
by Utusan Malaysia”.
“Has Azran never thought also that the licence issued by the
government to AirAsia is because at first the airline was owned by
Malays?” Abdul Rahman was quoted as saying in one such report.
On May 19, Utusan columnist Awang Selamat — the nom-de-plume
for the paper’s collective editorial voice — told the Umno-owned paper
to stop taking the airline’s ads until its sister company’s chief
executive apologises for criticising the broadsheet’s racist piece.
“Awang would like to suggest that the Utusan Group not accept any
AirAsia ad as long as there is no apology. Let the company’s
advertisement go to another paper, but not Utusan.
“Without AirAsia, Awang Selamat will not have any problem.
Furthermore, the value of the advertisement given is very small, lower
than advertisements for herbal and hair treatments,” it said.
The columnist also compared Asia’s biggest budget flier to Malaysia
Airlines (MAS), and described the national carrier as having better
service and a strong nationalist spirit.
“To those who serve we are polite, especially the Malaysian airline
whose service is better and thick with nationalism,” it said.
— Bernama

SINGAPORE - Man's best friend saved a woman in distress.
MediaCorp actress Chris Tong's dog attacked her robber, preventing him from grabbing the keys to her four-year-old Mercedes-Benz SLKClass car.
The incident happened at 1am yesterday morning in Cheras, a Kuala Lumpur (KL) suburb.
Tong, 30, who is based in KL, was out buying supper.
She was walking with her year-old Maltese, Baby, to her car parked at the side of the street when she was shoved from behind.
She was sent sprawling, bruising the left side of her face.
She also suffered scrapes and bruises to her arms and legs.
She said in a phone interview from KL last night: "I was caught unawares because the man came from behind and I was pushed to the ground.
"At that point, I was too scared to think. My mind went blank."
The man tried to grab her car keys but Baby started barking and tried to attack him.
The man kicked the dog. Fortunately, people who heard the commotion started shouting at the man. The frightened robber then ran off.
Tong said the attacker was tall and had tanned skin.
Lucky
"I was worried for Baby but luckily the robber's kick did not hurt him," she said.
has vowed to press on with the statutory rape charges against
restaurant owner Riduan Masmud amid an initial move by the prosecution
to drop the case following Riduan's "marriage" to the 13-year-old
victim.
He said he had also asked the Malaysian Anti-Corruption
Commission (MACC) to investigate the claim by the girl's father that
Riduan paid him RM5,000 as compensation, which was handed down by the
state's "Mahkamah Adat".
Gani said they were collecting more evidence, including the DNA report.
"We have never dropped the charge against him.
"I have directed my officers to gather more evidence and we will proceed with the case," he told reporters here on Wednesday.
Riduan's
case shocked the nation after he was charged with statutory rape of the
girl and later declaring that he had married her.

<link rel="alternate" type="text/html" href="http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/TakeNoteTakeHeart/~3/99QztBnJE-o/people-first-performance-now-rape-first.html" title="People First, Performance Now! Comment by The Malaysian Insider on May 18, 2013

AirAsia X CEO’s Utusan comments raise troubling responses

COMMENT, May 18 — In the mainstream media, AirAsia X chief executive
Azran Osman Rani is being vilified for expressing disgust at Utusan Malaysia’s blatant racism against the Chinese community in the aftermath of Election 2013.

But Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s declaration that
Malaysians unhappy with the election results can leave the country is
being explained as a “personal opinion” and not the government’ stance.

Why the double standards?

<ins style="border: 0px none; display: inline-table; height: 200px; position: relative; width: 200px;"><ins style="border: 0px none; display: block; height: 200px; position: relative; width: 200px;"></ins></ins>

And labelling Azran as anti-Malay is the unkindest cut as he only criticised Utusan Malaysia for its racist stance; he never attacked Malays. If anything, he should be lauded for his stand against racism.

Thus far, all mainstream media can do is trot out either discredited
politicians and mosquitoes to agitate for action against Azran — ranging
from Wanita Umno leader Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil to former
Penang PKR Wanita chief Aminah Abdullah, saying in a text message that
Azran’s act was akin to “waging war” against his own people.

Really? Why can’t Azran post “I am Malaysian. I am anti-racism. I am
disgusted by Utusan’s editorial stance” in his Facebook and Twitter
account without being slammed for it.

AirAsia X chairman Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz had to insist that Azran’s
comment was made in his personal capacity after being twigged about it
by her wing successor Shahrizat.

“No one has the right to deny others like Azran to state their views,
albeit personal ones, in the social media on any issue,” Rafidah had
said.

Didn’t Shahrizat say the same thing last year over her family’s
cattle farm project having nothing to do her with her political career?

“It is a personal thing. They mentioned Shahrizat when I had nothing
to do with it. I want to clear my name and my family’s name,” she said
when testifying in her defamation suit against PKR politicians.

The thing is, Azran is not the minority. Most Malaysians will not accept or tolerate the blatant racism of Utusan Malaysia that appeared on May 7.

The mainstream media should instead focus on the racism that seems to
prevail in Malaysia, rather than pick on a Malaysian who has stood up
against such racism.

We need to tell the mainstream media and politicians like Ahmad Zahid
that there can be a difference of opinion in Malaysia that should not
result in vilification or asking people to quit or leave the country
because they are not with you.

Utusan Malaysia, Ahmad Zahid and their supporters are not
the Malaysia that we are now or aspire to be, especially under the 1
Malaysia concept.

Their responses are troubling and if it is the dominant notion, then we have become a nightmare of the Malaysian dream.

Thousands of Malaysians dressed in black came in droves to gather at Stadium Kelana Jaya to listen to opposition leaders like PKR advisor Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, DAP leader Lim Kit Siang and PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu speak at the rally.

Many supporters brought along placards, flags and blew vuvuzelas, and some even came as early as 6pm to book their spots in the stadium. By 9pm, traffic on LDP highway came to a standstill and supporters ditched their cars at the nearby LRT station to walk to the stadium. Inside the stadium, supporters gathered peacefully and listened to Anwar making an announcement that his party Pakatan Rakyat would hold another gathering in Penang this Saturday.

Deejays at the Chinese radio station 988 have posted black-and-white pictures of themselves on their official Facebook fanpages in a silent protest against MCA's election campaign advertisements aired by the station.

Some of them have also posted these pictures on their own Facebook pages with the message, "We exercise our own discretion. The station's advertisements do not represent our stance."

Malaysiakini has been given to understand that the DJs are unhappy with the 988 for broadcasting a number MCA's negative advertisements over the radio station, which they feel are libellous and will sow fears among their audience.
These advertisement include one that says "a vote of DAP is a vote for PAS", and that once Pakatan is in power, it will hamper the growth of the country's economy and implement hudud.

Insiders say the DJs raised their opposition to the BN election advertisements with the station management before the broadcasts started, but to no avail despite backing from some of their senior managers.
Halt advertisements, say listeners

However, a source stressed that the move was merely the personal action of the DJs and did not reflect the official stance of 988.

MCA's direct attack on DAP through these advertisements have already drawn the ire of listeners and netizens alike.

A number of them have also expressed their dissatisfaction on the station's official Facebook page and have demanded that the advertisements be halted.
A check today showed that the black-and-white pictures of the DJs have been removed from the 988 webpage.

It is learned that radio station management issued a notice to all staff stating that the protest action violates company policy and that the black-and-white pictures must be removed by today or disciplinary action would be taken.
988 station is owned by the MCA-controlled Star Publications (M) Bhd.

Malaysiakini tried to contact the senior manager for human resources and administration at Star Publications, Henry Asokan, for comment, but without success.
The Star too has been running advertisements saying, "a vote of DAP is a vote for PAS".

Ads not endorsed by radio station

Besides the protest from the 988 DJs, an anonymous group has created a Chinese-language video criticising the MCA election advertisements, which has been circulating online.

"You may not see us working behind the scenes, but you can hear our voices on TV and on radio... Of late, the mainstream media has been continuously broadcasting disgusting campaign ads, and we feel both sad and angry," the group says in the video.

It adds: "Angry, not just because of the media's political stance, but also the false information contained within this series of ads. The slanderous and fictitious content continuously spreads fear and threats.
"We refuse to record these irresponsible ads. We support a two-party system. Give us back a blue sky (clean) advertising."

On the night of April 23, 988 station responded via Facebook and Twitter, saying that what it aired were purely paid advertisements and not a part of the station's programming, endorsement, or stance.

"As a broadcaster, we hope Malaysians will use the vote in their hands and perform their duty and their rights wisely," it said.

Police have cordoned off the area where Shaharuddin (picture) was shot and are checking the CCTV feeds.

KL police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohamad Salleh confirmed the incident and that police are questioning Shaharuddin’s driver to establish what happened.

The shooting in the country’s administrative capital increases the spotlight on crime in Malaysia, just days after armed men knifed 52-year-old Irene Ong to death in Bukit Gasing, Petaling Jaya, in an attempted daytime robbery,

Putrajaya has been battling perception that crime is on the increase, saying that from 2009 to 2012 the national crime rate dropped by 27 per cent while street crime fell by 39.7 per cent.

Police also said the national crime rate fell six per cent in the first quarter of 2013 against the same period last year.

It is learnt that the gunman fired three shots but only one hit Shaharuddin in the neck. The Customs officer’s body has been sent to Hospital Kuala Lumpur mortuary for a post-mortem.

The New Straits Times quoted Customs director-general Datuk Seri Khazali Ahmad as saying Shaharuddin’s death was a great loss to the department.

It was understood that Shaharuddin would be buried at the Precinct 20 cemetery here this evening.

Shaharuddin leaves behind his wife Datin Rahimah Ibrahim and two children, a daughter and a son.

LUMPUR, April 22 — On Saturday, Ong Ai Sam, 52, fended off two robbers
in a desperate bid to buy her daughter time to escape. She succeeded,
but paid for it with her life.
This is the message her daughter wishes she could hear.
My mother, my hero
I remember. I remember everything.
A few months ago in English class, my teacher asked us to write about
the person who we admire. I wrote about my mum. A month ago for my
English March Test paper, the topic I wrote about was “My Hero”. I wrote
about my mum. During my test, I had writer’s block so I simply wrote
out everything i knew about my mum: her childhood, achievements, etc. My
mum is my hero. She always has been, she always will be.
20th April 2013.
Mama left early in the morning for some event her Kiwanis Club’s
K-Kids had planned. She came back home with lunch for me and Milo ais. I
remember grumbling to her because I didn’t want to follow my parents
jungle trekking. I did anyway. We had to set up a trail for my father’s
running group so mama was carrying a bag with just plain paper in it. I
remember grumbling to my mum as we went up and down the hills of Gasing.
She told me we’d be out soon. After two hours of trekking in the
jungle, we finally hit the road. It was the road in Gasing leading up to
the temple. We decided to walk back down to the car.
As we walked down the steep road, there was nobody there. No people,
no cars. Just the two of us. As we nearly reached the first house, we
heard a motorbike sound from behind. We turned around and saw two men on
a motorbike. Mama said walk further in onto the pavement so we did. As
the motorbike drove past us, they stopped. The man from behind jumped
off. My mum pushed me to the back and told me to go. The man attacked my
mum straight away, without saying any words. The knife he used was just
a normal kitchen knife, the blade was about 10cm long. As my mum tried
to protect herself, she turned to her left, only to be stabbed twice on
the back of her right shoulder. She was struggling to escape. The
attacker then proceeded to stab the back of her left shoulder. Mama
tried so hard to escape. She fell on the ground and the attacker pulled
her on the road and stabbed her thigh. I tried to help but the attacker
thrust the knife my way so I ran back further. I couldn’t do anything
but scream at the top of my lungs. I screamed and screamed. The attacker
hopped on the bike and rode off.
I remember.
I remember watching my mum’s body lying on the road, all the blood
oozing out. The attacker did not manage to get any of my mum’s
belongings. She told me to call my dad. I ran down the hill looking for
help. The first house I went to, the maid (who saw everything that
happened) ran in and did not even try to help me. I ran further down and
saw a car. They saw me and stopped. And I told them what happened. The
driver, Mr Lai, told me to get in and we drive up to my mum. Mr Lai
called the ambulance and the police while I tried to keep my mum
conscious. There was blood everywhere. My mum just kept saying “save
me”. Her voice was so week. My dad reached the site 10 minutes later,
after running all the way. Mama kept telling us that she couldn’t
breathe. I prayed and prayed. She was slowly losing herself. We tried
our best to keep her awake and conscious. The police arrived. We put her
in the police car since the ambulance hadn’t arrived. As we reached
down the road, the ambulance was there so they transferred mum into the
ambulance.
I remember.
I remember sitting in the ambulance, holding my mum’s hand and trying
to talk to her but she didn’t respond. I remember crying. The
paramedics were doing all they could do at that point. I remember
calling Eu Lim, who was at church to pray for my mum. We reached the
hospital in three minutes. They rushed my mum to the emergency was. I
wasn’t allowed to enter and I was so, so scared. My dad had followed Mr
Lai’s car and they hadn’t reached yet. I had to settle my mum’s
registration and then I had to talk to the police. My dad arrived. Then
my friends arrived. I sat at the doorway of the hospital, praying and
praying. 10 minutes later, my dad came out and told me my mum didn’t
make it. I dropped in the middle of the hospital floor, screaming.
Everyone was looking at me, but I didn’t care. A bunch of doctors came
out to get me; they took me to a special room. They questioned me and
they told me about how my mum was already gone when we were in the
ambulance. They tried their best to revive her.
I remember.
I remember coming home. My friends just sat in silence. I just sat in
silence. I was covered in blood, mama’s blood. I had to get myself
together. I had to bathe. We broke the news to my sister through Face
Time and that was really hard to do. Slowly, people started coming. It
was hard seeing my aunts and uncles cry, my parent’s close friends, my
close friends and to know I had to keep it all together. It was really
hard, telling my story to everyone. It’s really hard to even close my
eyes for awhile because i see it replaying in my head over and over
again. Watching my mum lying in her pool of blood and not being able to
do anything. Not being able to save her.
People come, then people leave. All I hear is “I’m so sorry for your
loss” or “my condolences”. All I hear is people questioning me about
what happened, since I was the sole witness. But I am so tired of
telling this story over and over again. I am so tired of hearing other
people tell this story. This is my story. This is the truth. Newspapers
and reporters may twist it around and exaggerate to the whole world, but
this story will remain the truth forever.
I am truly grateful and appreciative to everyone who came, whether it
was for a short period, or a long time. Thank you to those who’ve
brought a little bit more of hope and joy to me, even though you guys
didn’t try. Thank you to those who’ve brought food and drinks, and
flowers. Thank you to everyone who called, texted, Whatsapped,
Facebook-ed and tweeted me. I don’t know how i became a trending topic
overnight (#prayforhuiwei). I was mad at first, but then I realised how
much my family had all of your love and support. Whether i know you or
not, whether you knew my mum or not, all your kind words really helped.
My mother was such an amazing and beautiful person.
I remember.
My mum’s last words to me were “I love you so much” dying there, on
the road. I watched it all. I watched it all slip out of my hands. Now
my life feels so empty. I keep thinking to myself that this is all a
dream. Maybe I’d wake up and be able to avoid this from happening. Maybe
if someone pinched me I’d wake up from this nightmare. But this is
reality, and I have to face the facts. I have to face the fact that I’m
alone now. I have to face the sounds of crying and wailing from the
other room. I have to face the facts that I’m going to grow up
motherless, clueless and confused. It won’t be easy, but I will get
through this.
Ma,
I love you so much. And I am so sorry I had to watch you die. I am so
sorry I couldn’t save you. But you’re with God now. Ma you’re such a
great person. Beautiful inside and out. And I thank you for teaching me
your ways. Thank you for always teaching (scolding) me to be a better
person. Even though we’ve had our moments, and times we didn’t see eye
to eye, you’ll always be my best friend. Who’s going to pick me up from
school now? Who am I going to say “HEY MA” to and tell them about my
day? Who’s going to cuddle up with me on the couch and be lazy for
awhile?
Ma,
Remember how you used to come into my room while I was studying, and
hug me then tickle me. Remember how you used to sing me to sleep when I
was young. Or how you used sing when you’re happy. You had a beautiful
voice. Remember how we sat on the couch, looking for coloured beads to
do arts and crafts. Remember every single day we spent together.
Ma,
I just saw your body, lying in the coffin. You look so beautiful,
peaceful, just like you’re sleeping. And I have the biggest urge to
scream “wake up”. Thank you, Ma. For giving me life, for giving me love.
You taught me everything good in my life. You were always selfless,
God-fearing. You were my strong pillar of hope and love. And even though
you’re no longer here with us, you’re with God. And you’re happy, just
like how you appeared in Lissa’s dream. And I do hope justice will be
served. They’re working on finding the criminals, ma. They will be
caught.
We all miss you, ma, we miss you so much. Goh Ee and Sar Ee has
already appointed themselves as my “mama” and I see you so much of you
in them. And it’s not going to be the same anymore. Nothing will be the
same anymore. You’re not going to watch me graduate, you’re not going to
watch me get married. You’re not going to be there to take care of my
children. But I know you are with us in spirit, and you’re always
watching over us. Please give me the strength and courage to move
forward with my life. Please give me the motivation to be better. To be
more like you. To spread the love and joy. Papa, Tache and I will always
be grateful for you are the biggest blessing God has given. And maybe
you’ve done too much good so The Lord called you home. And you are safe
now, safe with God. He will watch over you (and us) and protect you. You
are safe from all the evil now.
I will make you proud, mama. I will make everyone proud. I love you
so much. I’ll love you every single day of my life, and I’ll never
forget whatever you’ve done for me. Thank you so much. Rest in peace,
mama, I love you.
