On March 7th, TaleCraft Entertainment held a reading of its first feature-length screenplay, “Axis Island” by Christopher Jordan Woodring. A talented cast of actors gathered to breathe life into its characters as an eager audience listened and provided feedback to guide future rewrites. The response was overwhelmingly positive, which excites us greatly as Christopher continues to refine his period-piece adventure epic!

Sarah and the Sock Puppet is going international! The film will be presented during the “Chill Out and Warm Up” showcase as part of Winterlude 2013. The annual festival, now in its 35th year, is put on by the National Capital Commission in Ottawa, Canada to celebrate the joys of winter from February 1st-18th. Come see Sarah and the Sock Puppet as well as other heart-warming and award-winning short films on February 16th from 7pm-9pm at HUB Ottawa (71 Bank Street, 6th Floor, Ottawa, ON). Admission is free and there’s complimentary hot chocolate and popcorn!

Sarah and the Sock Pupppet Screens at El Cid

El Cid, a historic venue established by D.W. Griffith in 1905 and later remodeled after a 16th century Spanish tavern, hosts a Short Film Night once a month. Sarah and the Sock Puppet will screen as part of this series on October 3rd at 9pm. Come see the film as well as a slew of other short films, and meet Lisa Kay Jennings (Sarah), Chris Fraiser (cinematographer), and Christopher Jordan Woodring (Writer/Director). For those who arrive early, at 8pm, there will also be a pre-show dinner party/cocktail mixer.

Admittance is $8 and attendees must be 21+.

The line-up for the 2012 Feel Good Film Festival has been released and tickets are now available. Sarah and the Sock Puppet will screen on August 4th at 1:15pm in Laemmle’s NoHo 7 Theatre (5240 Lankershim Boulevard North Hollywood, CA 91601) alongside the short Sand Castle and the feature Playing the Moldovans at Tennis. Go to http://www.fgff.org/ and click on “Schedule/Tickets” to purchase your seats before they sell out!

The festival runs from August 3rd-5th with back-to-back screenings of short and feature films that “leave audiences feeling good”, so check out the other screening blocks as well!

Sarah and the Sock Puppet will kick off its festival tour at the Feel Good Film Festival the weekend of August 3rd (exact screening dates and times have yet to be announced). The festival, which will be hosted by Laemmle’s NoHo 7 Theatre, is “dedicated solely to screening films that leave audiences feeling good”. Valerie Milano, journalist for Hollywood Today, reported on the LifeFest Film Festival and highlighted Backseat saying, “…I did catch one short that stood out for me. It was called “Backseat”, by Christopher Woodring, and told the story of a married couple trying for a child. It mixed humor with awkwardness and a whole lot of empathy. “Backseat” won the Best Short Film award at Life Fest…”. Backseat screened at LifeFest Film Festival on May 4th. In addition to the enthusiastic audience response, the team walked away with both the “Best Short Film” award and the “Audience Favorite” award! The writer and director of the film, Christopher Jordan Woodring, was particularly pleased with the audience favorite award, “I mean, that’s why I do it; that’s why we do it: to move the people watching it. To be in a screening and hear people reacting to what you’ve made is amazing, but then to have them put down on paper or in some concrete form, like, ‘Hey, we really loved it’…it just makes you want to run out and film something new.”
