This is the news all Nickelback fans have been waiting for – the return of the band to UK shores for two new shows early next year. We have always tried to keep fans in the loop, like when the last shows were announced in the United States of America, Australia and New Zealand and the United Kingdom when they were last here back in May.

Those in the know will already have got their pre-sale tickets which were onsale until 9am this morning. However, I have just checked and standing tickets are still available at the time of writing for both UK gigs.

Visit these Ticketmaster or Ticketline links as soon as possible to secure your valuable tickets!

Following their sold out tour in May, tickets surely won’t be available for long. The platinum-selling album Dark Horse is now widely known by all fans and so it will be a great occasion to experience the band knowing all the songs.

The band will play in Liverpool at the Echo Arena on Sunday 17th January 2010 and in London at Wembley Arena on Tuesday 19th January 2010.

There are also special VIP ticket packages for fans who want to experience the show in style.

You can also visit https://tickets.nickelbackfanclub.com/ for more info.

Not all supergroups work as Blind Faith can testify, while Cream and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young prove that they can. I was, and still am a big fan of Audioslave which featured most notably Chris Cornell from Soundgarden and Tom Morello from Rage Against the Machine. Now we have another supergroup forming to fill us with intrigue.

As I mentioned in an article back in July, Them Crooked Vultures is a hard rock supergroup which has been brought together by Dave Grohl, the Foo Fighters’ frontman and ex-Nirvana drummer. The band features an interesting line up which includes Queens of the Stone Age singer Josh Homme and Led Zeppelin Bassist John Paul Jones. Alain Johannes of Queens of the Stone Age will also appear at the live gigs.

Now, while it is too early to say how well they’ll do, and I haven’t even heard any of the songs yet, I certainly wish them well as they embark on a six-date UK tour this December.

If you were lucky enough to catch them when they supported the Arctic Monkeys in Brixton or when they made the surprise appearances at the Reading and Leeds festivals recently, let me know what you thought.

Here are their UK gigs:

10th December - Plymouth Pavilions
11th December - Portsmouth Guildhall
13th December - Blackpool Empress Ballroom
14th December - Birmingham O2 Academy
15th December - Edinburgh Corn Exchange
17th December - London Hammersmith Apollo

I was at Pearl Jam’s return to the MEN Arena last night – for the first time since 2000, as part of their four-date European tour which includes London’s O2 tonight.

The grunge legends did not disappoint with a full repertoire of songs through their back catalogue as well as songs from the upcoming album Backspacer. They were on for about 2hours 15mins so fans at the packed out MEN certainly got their money’s worth, with their usual double encore at the end.

I collected a few videos on my phone as I managed to get fairly near to the front. I may try and post a couple on YouTube in the near future. My favourites were Alive, Black and Indifference which was their last song.

Here is the set list below. Let me know if you were there and what you made of it.

Set 1

    * Long Road
* Last Exit
* Why Go
* All Night
* The Fixer
* Low Light
* In Hiding
* World Wide Suicide
* Not For You(Modern Girl)
* Even Flow
* Present Tense
* Save You
* Grievance
* Sleight Of Hand
* Got Some
* Given To Fly
* Rearviewmirror

Encore 1

    * Go
* Daughter
* Do The Evolution
* Alive

Encore 2

    * Smile
* Black
* Leash
* The Real Me
* Indifference

Supernatural, the American drama/horror TV show is to return for its fifth season on Thursday September 10th on CW in the US. It is expected back on UK screens on the Living Channel after Virgin Media took the rights from itv2.

For those who don’t know, the series revolves around two brothers, Sam and Dean Winchester, who hunt down demons and other figures of the paranormal, to avenge the death of their mother (and later, their father).

The show sometimes uses an X-Files format as the brothers investigate unexplained events relating to folklore, myths, and American urban legends. However, one of the main drawing points for me, and other viewers, is the big connection with classic rock and metal.

The music on the series is such a key component of its appeal – Dean Winchester has a large collection of classic rock and heavy metal music which he listens to on the cassette player of the 1967 Chevrolet Impala.

The love of rock music is intertwined with the storyline of many episodes and adds meaning to the events which unfold. I particularly like the continued use of Kansas’ Carry On My Wayward Son, Blue Oyster Cult’s Don’t Fear The Reaper, plus the episode where the brothers sing along to Wanted Dead Or Alive by Bon Jovi, in the car!

It seems like age may have finally caught up with the Aerosmith rocker. Steven Tyler is recovering from head, neck and shoulder injuries after mistiming a step during a performance in Rapid City, South Dakota on Wednesday night.

The 61-year old was reported to have been dancing around while singing their classic Love in an Elevator song. When he fell from the stage at the outdoor concert it first appeared he had stage dived. But it was soon evident he was genuinely hurt and Steven had to be airlifted to hospital by helicopter. The show had to be ended prematurely.

The band was due to play in Canada tonight, but Ticketmaster notes that the show featuring Aerosmith and ZZ Top in Winnipeg has been postponed. However, it seems that Sunday and Tuesday’s dates at Regina and Edmonton respectively will go ahead – at this moment in time. Keep up to date with news on the official Aerosmith website and at Ticketmaster for current details.

Lets hope it’s not serious. Get well soon, Steven.

It seems like ages since I last saw the Red Hot Chili Peppers live in Manchester – well I think it was 2006 when they had released Stadium Arcadium. Since then there has not been much news as the band had taken a hiatus. I didn’t expect the break to last two years though, so I was excited to hear reports that the band will be reforming to write new material in October.

Drummer Chad Smith, who bears more than a passing resemblance to comedian Will Ferrell, said that the funk rock group were now ready to start work on a new album.

Smith told Billboard:

“That’s the plan (to return then). It’ll be two years in September, so now we’re ready. You can’t force people to play when they don’t want to play or aren’t ready to play or whatever – not in our band, anyway.”

This is great news for Chili Peppers fans, me included. I have seen the band around 5 times and I always enjoy their on stage energy and Californication is one of my favourite albums.

The new Guitar Hero game will be released on the 1st of September for the PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Wii and Xbox 360 platforms, with a new array of features to build on the World Tour – four-person band experience.

The main new feature allows players to play together in the band using ANY combination of instruments – including all four players on the same instrument! I can just imagine four mates on guitar rocking along to Rammstein’s “Du Hast”, but hopefully not all wailing together to Coldplay!

Star Power is now tracked separately you’ll all be pleased to hear. No more gritting your teeth in anger as your hopeless mate fails during the ‘Beat It’ intro for the tenth time! But you can bring that player back into the game by playing your own part successfully.

The game does sound to have improved somewhat. There are now a range of performance challenges on certain songs – with specific tasks. I can’t wait…

To pre-order the game from Amazon, check out the links below:
