Here are some screenshots of the last map included in the Cold Front downloadable content for Socom: Confrontations. The map is named Night Stalker and according and seems to be the favourite with the beta testers.

With the release of the latest shots, we can only assume that the release is around the corner.

Remember, once the DLC is released, it will be priced for $9,99/€9,99 for the first 24 hours and then $14,99/€14,99 afterwards.

Netflix PS3 streaming arrives today. The service was announced not so long ago and will finally be available at some point today if it isn’t already available to you.

If you’re a Netflix subscriber and asked for a disc, Netflix has already mailed them out, and will get into most people’s hands by tomorrow. The PS3 will then join the Xbox 360, the Roku, TiVo DVRs, some standalone Blu-ray players and of course the PC as devices which can access streaming video through Netflix.

The only really surprising aspect of the whole affair was the timeline Netflix put forth, and as of tomorrow many PS3 owners who are also Netflix subscribers will be receiving the installation disc to make this all possible.

Dead Space 2 was confirmed earlier in the year, we reported this to you back in February. It has now been confirmed that Dead Space 2 will be released in 2010. No word on what part of the year but we reckon 3rd quarter.

Electronic Arts has a pair of horror offerings for gamers. The publisher recently shipped “Dead Space: Extraction” for Wii, which is a prequel to last fall’s Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC hit. “Dead Space 2″ is in development for next year.

This week, the creator of the Gran Turismo franchise was at the SEMA show, which he does every year. He talks about why it has taken a long time to develop, and the development costs of Gran Turismo 5. As well as how many cars he envisions for the game to have, and how many tracks we’ll see.

In GT5, they’re aiming for at least 1,000 cars in the game, while you race it out on 70 different tracks. All the cars will be on disc, no need to download them to the Hard Drive he says. As far as DLC, they may do it, but no plans as of yet. Also the game costed $60 million to create.

Gran Turismo 5 is set for launch in Japan in March 2010, while other regions have to be determined.

DICE made an announcement over at the US PlayStation Blog, providing details on the exclusive beta for PS3 owners. The beta is scheduled to begin on November 19th, there will only be one map, and one mode to play on. You’ll be playing on the African Harbour map with the Rush game mode with 24 players.

For North Americans to gain access, there will be a special giveaway on the PlayStation Blog which is TBA, pre-ordering at GameStop, or gain one from giveaways on IGN or GameSpot for NA Only.

Europeans will have access to get into the beta, but nothing was announced as of yet.

Tekken 6 has just been released and people are already having problems with the online side of the game. Fear not, an update will be released to fix the issues.

This is what NAMCO BANDAI Games say:-

• To improve the online game experience for players of TEKKEN® 6, NAMCO BANDAI Games is developing a downloadable update which will be available as soon as it has passed rigorous testing procedures.
• More details regarding the content of the update and the timing of its release will be announced shortly.

Ubisoft has revealed that they have signed an exclusive advert deal with Sony for Assassin’s Creed 2. The adverts will obviously promote the Playstation 3 version of the game, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guilemot claims the campaign will see more activity “than would have been possible otherwise.”

Heavy Rain is due to be released early next year but Sony and Quantic Dream will be releasing a demo of the good looking title. David Cage of Quantic Dream has confirmed that a demo will be released so gamers can get a taste of what to expect from the game.

Here’s the evidence Cage provided while talking to G4.

G4: Have you considered releasing a short demo via PSN of a scene such as the Norman Jayden junkyard fight, to convey what the game is to gamers who don’t follow enthusiast media?

DC: Definitely. We are currently working on a demo, which is a real challenge. Finding one scene that can convey what we are trying to achieve with Heavy Rain is something really difficult. If we show an action scene, some players will think that this is what Heavy Rain is all about, and it is the same thing if we show an exploration scene. The problem is that each scene of the game offers contextual game play, which is something very difficult to explain and convey in a single demo. Demos are often a double-edge thing: if you don’t release one, players may think that you have something to hide. We also know many good games that ended up not being massive hits because the demo could not convey the quality of the game behind it.

Because Heavy Rain is a new concept and since many gamers will want to check what it is before buying it, we will be releasing a demo. We just need to find the best scene for it.

Uncharted 2 was released not long ago but there are already rumours saying that Uncharted 3 is in early stages of development.

In the latest Official PlayStation Magazine (December 2009, UK version), in the latest ‘The Big 10′ section, the guys over at OPM have asked Uncharted 2 Multiplayer designer Justin Richmond ‘How do you top Uncharted 2?’. The answer, well it seems to all-but confirm that early work has begun on the sequel;

SCEE has announced movie titles available for download once the Video Delivery Service comes in Europe later this month. Movies you’ll be seeing are listed below.

• Bruno, Angels & Demons
• Casino Royale
• Crank 2: High Voltage
• Hannah Montana: The Movie
• Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
• Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs
• The Hills Have Eyes
• Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

Only France, Germany, UK, and Spain will have the Video Service in November, while others will be added throughout 2010.

The studios on support of this are 20th Century Fox, Disney-ABC-ESPN Television1, Lionsgate2, MGM, Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures, Starz Media2, Universal, and Warner Bros.

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) is excited to announce a ‘Must have’ list of blockbuster hit films that will be available on the PlayStation Network Video Delivery Service before Christmas.

From action packed thrillers to a little something for the kids, there will be a host of fantastic films that all the family are sure to enjoy, some of which include: Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, Hannah Montana: The Movie, Bruno, Angels & Demons, Casino Royale, Crank 2: High Voltage and The Hills Have Eyes.

The service will allow movie fans to download the latest releases straight to their PlayStation3 (PS3) and PSP (PlayStationPortable) for viewing at home or on the go from this November in France, Germany, Spain and the UK with other markets to follow in 2010.

The video store will offer high quality entertainment, available to buy or to rent, from major movie studios including 20th Century Fox, Disney-ABC-ESPN Television1, Lionsgate2, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc. (MGM), Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures, Starz Media2, Universal, and Warner Bros. In additional, a number of local studios will be announced closer to launch.

There were rumours floating around the web suggesting that Gran Turismo 5 will have a track editor. People said these rumours are false but e4g.info decided to contact the developers to find out if it was true or not. Now, we have a official answer.

Yes it will have a track editor. You will be able to rebuild a track from scratch or edit the tracks that are already put in Gran Turismo 5.

So there you go, a track editor!

Australian Playstation 3 owners are to get live HDTV recording. This will be available later this month and Sony will also lunch a downloads store to directly download the latest movies, tv shows etc. straight onto your PS3 within the first quarter of next year.

The product, pictured above, will reail for around AU $170. ‘Play TV’ as it’s called will also have twin HD tuners allowing you to record more than one TV show at a single time.

The team behind the Resistance and Ratchet & Clank series are now familiar with developing games for the Playstation 3 and go as far as saying “we can perform tricks”.

James Stevenson, senior community manager said the following:-

We had to rebuild Ratchet for PS3,” Stevenson said. “All that stuff we took for granted: the move set, the animations, the character, the crates, everything that works on PS2, had to be redone for PS3.

As soon as that’s done and you have everything down and you have that codebase to work from, making the sequel is always a leap forward. This is the fun time in every console generation. Everyone gets excited about new game machines. The problem is game developers are so busy just getting their games up and running on the new machines at first. You don’t get the innovation, the interesting stuff and the astounding games early on in the generation because we’re just happy it runs.

After we get it off and running and we have a game or two released, three, four years into the lifecycle of consoles is where it starts to get exciting. Now we know how to ride that bicycle and we can start performing tricks on it.

It was going from old techniques where processing was single threading, to multiple parallel processors essentially – there are six, seven SPUs on the PS3,” Stevenson explained.

That’s a complete paradigm shift. It makes it even harder. At least we have the benefit of being exclusive. We code everything for the PS3 engine. Trying to wrap your head around getting something that will work on an Xbox 360 processor and a PS3 processor – that makes it even harder. So we have the benefit of being able to not worry about having another console to develop for and focus our engine on running incredibly well on the PS3, and wringing all the power out of the SPUs.

There was a learning curve,” he admitted. “Getting a launch title out the door is always a learning curve. Everyone can aim for that but it’s tough. Resistance 1 was a tough game to make. The hardest part about that is, you have to make the game on PCs, and you have to simulate the engine of the PS3 as best as possible until the dev kits start rolling out. And then it’s a rapid process of trying to get the game working on dev kits. It was a tough process.
