New Her Universe Clothes to Debut At Star Wars Weekends

I really want to go to The Star Wars weekends at Disney. There are very few places to meet large groups of Star Wars fans and totally get my SW geek on.

But even more of a reason is the fact that Her Universe is debuting more awesome geek wear there and I desperately want it all!!

I totally want the rebel pilot dress and tank and both the Asajj Ventress and R2-D2 hoodies! Those are fantastic!

The new Padme nouveau shirt will go so well with the one I already have. And the Darth Vader and Han Solo shirts make me squeal with geek glee!

I just want everything. Is that so bad?

Since there's no way I can make it to Florida to buy these, I guess I'll just have to wait until they start selling them on the website. Please hurry Her Universe, you're my only hope....

Kick-Ass Concept Shoes

I miss wearing fancy shoes. When I was a receptionist, I was always wearing different heels to match my different outfits. In my work closet was a row of amazing shoes just ready and waiting for me to change into once I got to work.

These days, I'm on my feet all day. Do you know what that means?

Practical shoes.

Runners, flats, loafers.... it's so dull.

My nice shoes sit in my shoe rack just longing for a special occasion.

Sometimes a special pair of heels comes along that are nothing like anything you've ever seen before. You know if you owned them, you would wear them everywhere, even if they don't really go with anything you own.

These are those kinds of shoes.

It started with Disney Villains. How can you see these shoes and not want them?

I love the way the outfits are made into the actual foot wear and the faces of the villains, themselves, are inside. Very cool. Perhaps even cooler than the other villain shoes I posted about.

These babies are the design of Kobi Levi. You've probably seen some of his other shoes floating around the internet before now. I just came across his site, and if I thought these were awesome, I was even more flabbergasted for his other designs.

These are some of my favorites.

I really, really want the violin and shark ones the most. I have no idea what I'd wear them with, but I don't care. I'd find something.

Then again, after looking at the price, if I could ever afford a pair of these, I'd probably keep them on a shelf and only look at them longingly.

It's Star Wars Day!!

Are you excited? I know I am. I'm celebrating all weekend! I'm actually more excited about this than May 2-4 weekend! Sure, long weekends are awesome, but May the 4th only happens once a year.

Star Wars.com offers these cute e-cards that you can send out to those you love. And since I love you guys, here they are

Ok, ok. So I didn't get this out in time yesterday. To be fair, I was caught up with my dashing rogue. It's not often I get to spend Star Wars Day with someone else. So it was super awesome that he was as stoked about doing SW things as I was!

We picked up the first 3 seasons of The Clone Wars. He's only seen a few episodes and we decided it would be fun to watch them together. Over the weekend, we made it half way through the 1st season.

We went out walking through the city with some friends and saw lots of people wearing SW shirts. Mine also got noticed quite a bit. It's nice to get a friendly compliment or a head nod from a fellow geek. I even got to fan-girl with another geeky girl wearing a Han Solo shirt. She loved my shirt, I loved her shirt... it was geek at first sight.

I've never really made SW themed food before, other than desserts, so we set about trying to make some fun meals over the weekend.

I mixed up some Blue Milk, so we could make Banthamilk pancakes.

And whipped out my Williams-Sonoma pancake molds.

Ok, so the yellow of the egg and the off white of the pancake mix turned them green, but it was pretty fitting as far as Yoda was concerned.

The pancake molds are a little hard to use, but the more I made, the better they got.

Something about having a Darth Vader pancake on my Darth Vader flipper was both amusing and awesome. See, it fits so well.

We had all these brilliant plans on how to decorate out pizza to be SW-esque, but by the time we go around to making it, we forgot and made it how we normally do.

We decided afterwards that it probably looked like the stomach of a Sarlacc.

So there you have it, Sarlacc stomach pizza...

For dessert, we tried to get a little more creative. We picked up some cookies and cream ice cream and I through together some cocoa snaps.

Pretty awesome, huh? Yeah, I thought so too.

The other awesome thing we did this weekend, was finish off my ISO Girl outfit for the 501st and take preliminary photos. Now I just have to send them in to get approved.

I've been perusing Red Bubble as of late and I came across Trekvix (which is an awesome name, btw)

Trekvix, also, seems to believe in geek love. And I love her for it.

Now do you see why I'm so excited? These are fantastic!!! I want all of them! Well, most of them. Some of them aren't my fandom, but I'm soooo glad that she covers all sorts of fandoms for all sorts of different geeks! Maybe I can talk her into making me a Star Wars one ;)

New Halloween Costumes

It's April, and you know what that means?

It's time to start thinking about Halloween! Or at least Con season.

I always find it strange that new Halloween costumes start coming out in April. Seems a bit early to me. But I guess one can never be too prepared.

Plus, more Star Wars costumes for women! YAY!

They're not just Star Wars and they're mot just for women, but I like that I'm the target audience for most of these.

Star Wars

I love this new Darth Talon costume. Well, except for the weird inflatable head piece. That thing's strange... The rest of the costume is pretty good, though.

I'm happy that they went with the more adult Ahsoka Tano look. It's easier to paint your arms and face orange than the whole top of your body. If you're going for authenticity, that is.

I'm not sure how I feel about the whole sexy, Femtrooper look. Ok, it's not that. I've never really felt the appeal of dressing as a Stormtrooper, but if I did, I'd want my armor to look less plastic-y.

These next ones seem to be causing some controversy and I can understand why

I, however, LOVE THEM! (don't judge me)

I know, I know, what's with the weird skintight schoolgirl look? Why not just give women normal costumes that actually fit us properly instead of these weird hybrid outfits?

I don't care. I want them all! Especially the X-Wing Pilot, promptly followed by the Darth Vader, Boba Fett and then the Stormtrooper!

The one thing I really don't get about these costumes are the toques. They seem kind of out of place. They're awesome, (except for the Boba Fett one. It's totally lame) but don't match the costumes at all. They'd be better off selling them separately.

Also, I would totally wear these shoes with the Boba Fett one. Perfect, right?

You thought those costumes were weird? Here are the really strange ones, and they're not even aimed at women! (although women could still wear them, these are actually aimed at men)

Be warned. What is seen cannot be unseen

yeah.... I warned you.

Now, there's nothing wrong with these per-say, (except for the Chewbacca one. That thing is terrifying) and if you're into this sort of thing, all the power to you.

I have pretty awesome body confidence, but even I wouldn't feel comfortable in these. Add a ruffly skirt to it and then we can talk ;)

The Darth Maul one would work really well with a pair of black pants over top and glued on horns, making it the most realistic of the 3 costumes. I don't have any suggestions for the Darth Vader or Boba Fett ones, though.

My final thought on these is this; what type of shoes do men wear with skin tight, Star Wars costumes? Ponder it and let me know what you come up with.

Comics

aka Batman Villains

The Riddler and The Joker are the first marketed costumes I've ever seen for cross-play. I kinda like it. Well, I like the Riddler dominatrix outfit. It even comes with it's own riding crop?

The Joker outfit, on the other hand, is pretty terrible. Had it not been for the green wig, I don't think I would've figured out if who it was suppose to be.

Want to be Harley Quinn? Who doesn't? The thing about that is that she's beginning to be played out. So how can you breath new life into her? By making her Sexy

No? How about by being Arkhan Assylum Harley Quinn?

Still to played out? How about Arkham City Harley Quinn?

Still not feeling it? How about Harlequin one that's doing it's best to be Harley Quin without actually being Harley Quinn?

One small rant about these pictures.... Why do they all look as if they've been crying? Are they crying because they're bad? I don't really know what the make-up people were thinking with this look.

Muppets

Like the Star Wars dresses, these are a little odd, but super cute! I would wear the Kermit one and the Animal one all the time! I love the ears that come with Miss Piggy's dress, and the bangles that come with Animal's are divine! My favorite accessory is The Fozzy neck-tie/belt! What a super cute idea!

80's Fun

The She-Ra outfit isn't new, but I still really love it. I would totally love to dress up as her. She was one of my hero's growing up, as well as Cheetara. The wig is kinda horrible, but that just makes me like it more. This costume does seem to be lacking some spots, but those could easily be added on later.

Now, this last one isn't really 80's, other that I remember it from then.

I know I've done dresses like this before, but this one is just weird and kind of creepy, especially compared to the men's costume. I can just imagine the inappropriate comments about it, especially with that lick-a-stick...

Geek Stress Relief

Life is hard sometimes

and busy

Sometimes we get so wrapped up in life that we forget to slow down and relax.

You know what I like to do when I'm stressed out?

Pop bubble wrap

You thought I was going to say something like watch Star Wars or read comics, didn't you?

As much as I do find those things help, some times I need something more physical to release the stress. Bubble wrap does just that.

I imagine that's how Link feels.

One minute you're just hanging out in your normal county life, doing normal country things, the next, an old man is shoving a sword at you telling you that you need to go find some princess with a weird name. Oh, but to find her, you have to travel across the country, fight monsters, solve crazy puzzles, learn an instrument and kill a giant pig man monster. But don't fret, take this annoyingly chatty fairy with you. She can't fight, but she will nag you the whole time.

It's enough to make anyone go crazy. But Link found a way to make the best of it. He found his own Hyrulian bubble wrap; breaking pots.

Yes, Link is a menace to anything pot like.

Geek Girl Fashion And Accessories Part 2

So, I don't usually do 2-parters, but post 1 was already getting pretty long and I hadn't even gotten to awesome accessories yet, so I decided to break off and do a separate post about them.

Sometimes we don't or can't show our geeky pride off as much as we'd like to. For example; I have to wear business casual clothes for my job. Even on casual Fridays, I'm not allowed to wear graphic t-shirts. Believe me, if I could, I would wear my Star Wars shirts to work. But since I can't, I have to be more creative with my geek pride.

Enter Accessories.

I wear my Batman earrings to work every day. Heck, I even wore them to a wedding once.

Geek jewelery use to be really hard to find, but with the growing girl geekdom out there, more and more jewelery is showing up on the market.

How can I not start this off with Her Universe.

When they first brought out their charm bracelet, I had to have it.

I totally love it, although I don't have all the charms yet, I love the ones I do.

What's also great about it, is that they have matching earrings to go with them!

I love the Naboo earrings sooooo much!!

Once upon a time, HU only catered to Star Wars fans, but since they've expanded, they've added these to the roster, Star Trek earrings and a Battlestar necklace.

It's pretty easy to tell I'm a geek. When I'm not at work, I'm almost always in a graphic t-shirt. I carry either a Yoda, Grover or my Talk Star Wars To Me bag, and for awhile, a Star Wars purse (before it fell apart). Even when I'm at work, in a corporate setting, I'm still wearing my Batman earrings.

I also have a Star Wars charm bracelet, an R2-D2 swimsuit, tons of geeky socks and an R2-D2 toque that was handmade for me.

But is that ever enough? Maybe I want something a bit more girly? Maybe some dresses?

Year Of The Fangirl

Think it's the Year of the Snake?

Think again.

This year marks the Year of the Fangirl. Well, at least over at Her Universe.

I think that this is amazing! I've always been a firm supporter of Her Universe and their never ending quest to make geek girls feel awesome about themselves (and their awesome clothes), and this is just another step in the right direction.

We geek girls need more love and support in our lives.

It's certainly not easy to be a geek and a girl. I should know. Most people don't get you or understand why you love what you love. In the last year alone I've been told that I should grow up, get a real hobby or that I should be more lady like in my pursuits. I've even been made fun of for running this blog (which is stupid, because my blog rocks!)

Of course I don't let any of this get me down, because I love myself and my geekyness and I don't care what anyone else thinks. I have wonderful friends, who are super supportive and those are the people I share my time with.

But that's me. Not all girls, geeky or otherwise have a strong network of friends or solid self-esteem. These are the girls that we need to reach.

Han Solo And Boba Fett Spin-offs?

With the news of Disney buying Star Wars churning out all sorts of speculation on what's to come (J.J Abrams, Darth Vader?) I'm really excited about a new possibility that could make our SW future super cool!

There is talk of making Han Solo and Boba Fett spin-off movies!!!

Yesterday, The Walt Disney Co. unveiled plans to make a number of spin-off movies set a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away — in addition to the post-Return of the Jedi trilogy that had already been announced

Entertainment Weekly has learned details on two of the spin-off projects: A young Han Solo saga, focusing on the wisecracking smuggler’s origin story, and a bounty hunter adventure with Boba Fett at the center of a rogue’s gallery of galactic scum.

Sources close to the projects confirmed this was the direction the development was taking, although they cautioned it’s still very early in the process and, well, the deal could always be altered futher. Lucasfilm and Disney declined to comment on the information.

The Han Solo story would take place in the time period between Revenge of the Sith and the first Star Wars (now known as A New Hope), so although it’s possible Harrison Ford could appear as a framing device, the movie would require a new actor for the lead — one presumably much younger than even the 35-year-old Ford when he appeared in the 1977 original.

The Boba Fett film would take place either between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back, or between Empire and Jedi, where the bounty hunter was last seen plunging unceremoniously into a sarlacc pit. Exactly who would play him isn’t much of a complication – in the original trilogy, he never took off his helmet. And in the prequels, we learned he was the son of the original stormtrooper clone, played by Temuera Morrison, who’s still the right age for the part if his services were required.

In addition to bringing back two fan-favorite characters as the leads of their own films, the Han Solo and Boba Fett projects would also allow Darth Vader, in full-on black death-metal gear, to return as a villain, since placing the spin-offs within the original trilogy would mean he is still alive and hissing. That timeline would also open the door for a return from visit with everyone’s favorite degenerate slug-like gangster, Jabba the Hutt.

Now, over the last few years, I've been reading all the young Han Solo books (both the trilogy and the adventures)

I would be thrilled if they went with any of these plot lines, but even if they decided to ignore the EU (which we all know they probably will) there is still so much they can do with him. I feel the same about Boba Fett. Anything you do with him is going to be gold, since he's such a fan favourite.

I'm still worried about what they're going to do with Episode 7, but if this is also on the horizon, I will hold on to my hope a little longer. Keep your fingers crossed. I know mine are.

Geeky Gamer Girl Instrumental

I've always wished that I could play an instrument. Ok, let me rephrase that. I wish that I had more time and energy and patience to play an instrument well. I can sort of play the piano and the guitar, but not very well.

That's why I'm so in awe of these lovely ladies and their talents.

Lets start with Lena Leclaire, who not only has a masters degree in flute, but also plays the Ocarina!!

I didn't even know that the Ocarina was a real instrument! Apperently it is and you can buy them here.

I've never played Skyrim. Actually, I know next to nothing about the game other than something about taking an arrow to the knee and that it has lovely music for awesome geek girls to play

I love Star Wars, as you know, but my family thinks that's strange.

I'm pretty sure they think it's a phase or something.

When I say proudly that I'm a geek, they look at me in horror and ask why I would call my self such, as if I had just called myself something horrible. I laugh and try to explain it, but I don't think they get it still.

Don't get me wrong, they're always encouraging of my baking and sewing, my love of reading and writing, they just don't get Star Wars. I can understand that. There are a lot of things I don't get about them.

As such, I've never received a Star Wars gift at Christmas...

Tis the season once again. I haven't been in much of a Christmas mood lately, but this may be due to the fact that there is no snow yet. I should be getting use to green Toronto winters, but as far as Christmas is concerned, there should always be at least a little.

How Not To Play Final Fantasy VIII

Final Fantasy VIII is one of my all time favorite games.

I know, I know, most people don't agree with me, but I don't care. It was the first RPG I ever played through on my own and holds a special place in my heart. I've played it through probably 6 or 7 times between my old PS and my PSP.

It contains some of my favorite kick-ass female villains, especially Edea.

I remember when this game came out and I was just getting into video games; the graphics were top of the line and everyone was super impressed with how the characters moved.

I mean, who didn't love running these characters in circles?

fightingdreamerspro did.

"This video was filmed at Anime Evolution in 2008. The footage from this skit got lost over the years and was just found recently. Unfortunately, some clips were lost for good (Irvine's intro and the running into the invisible walls that so commonly spite you in FF games). The point of this video was purely to make fun of the sillier aspects of the game- like Zell's obsession with "hot dogs", Rinoa's uselessness and the fact that all of the characters followed you around.
Our friend Will jumped in randomly so the boss battle at the end was unplanned. He just put Timcampy on his head and Final Fantasy "bounced" in front of us XD
Who knows, maybe we will try filming something like this again- only better, but for now- enjoy the crack.

I laughed so hard when I saw this. My first thoughts were:

1) Squall isn't that social

2) Oh, Zell and his hot dogs

3) Wait... you can't have more than 3 people in your party at once

4) OMG Rinoa's dead before the battle even started, how appropriate

5) Oh, confuse... I hate you.

Then I thought of these guys and remembered how terrified I was on running into them in any other Final game, never to have them be quite so evil as they were in VIII

In the wake of Disney's announcement that it's buying the Star Wars/Indiana Jones franchises, people have been going crazy doing Disney/SW mash-ups. So much so that it's becoming a little crazy.

So today I thought I would give you a mash up on another kind; equally as rediculous.

Yes, It's been done in weird and crazy ways, but what I didn't know was that years ago, when Hello Kitty had it's own cartoon, that they actually did do a mash up.

It's pretty hilarious actually. I love that they got to the cantina/ice cream parlor and instead of chopping off arms, Obi Cat-Nobi throws ice cream at him.
Oh, what the power of the Fur can do....

Did you recognize all the voices from your childhood? Darth Catnip was the same voice as Penny from Inspector Gadget and I recognized the voice of the little C-DogPO thing, but I can't place from where.... Any ideas?
