How to Use Boiling Water

Know when boiling is appropriate. Gold itself can be boiled with no problems. Last week, social media was awash with reports of a rising Nigerian music star Accusing Nigerian American artiste Jidenna, of copying his fashion style.

It didn’t take long for Nigerians on social media, Twitter in particular to wonder who this person was. Val Obi , an upcoming singer stopped by NET TV to explain the rationale behind that statement.

Val Obil made further boasted that International music star, Jidenna, copied his style in an interview.

Panic as Davido Fails to Show Up at Harare.

Nigerian music superstar Davido’s failure to come for Jah Prayzah’s album launch at the Harare International Conference Centre last night triggered panic among the show’s promoters and appears to have denied the organisers of his aborted tour a potentially big pay day.

Kings Entertainment was forced to rope in music superstar Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi and Zimdancehall star Winky D as last minute replacements for the celebrated Nigerian star.

Davido’s no-show for Jah Prayzah’s album launch last night also saw 2 Kings Entertainment reducing the price of the cheapest ticket by half to $10.

In a bid to cash in on Davido’s presence at the “Kutonga Kwaro” album launch, 2 Kings Entertainment had pegged tickets at $20 for ordinary ones, VIP ($30), VVIP ($50) and Golden Circle ($100).
But sadly for 2 Kings Entertainment, the would-be money-spinning gig went up in smoke after Davido was invited for questioning by Nigerian police in connection with the death of his friend Tagbo Umeike, who reportedly succumbed to suffocation.

Yesterday the embattled Davido was forced to release a video footage of the scene purported to be his last meeting with his late friend, Umeike in a bid to absolve himself.

This followed a report by the police on Wednesday that Davido had lied during questioning.
Tich Mharadze of 2 Kings Entertainment, however, told the Daily News that the situation was not as bad as it could have been for the organisers.
He said though Davido charges up to $100 000 if he brings his 12 member-strong band, 2 Kings Entertainment had capitalised on the fact that Davido was coming as Jah Prayzah’s guest.

“Yes we invested a bit of money in organising the concert but Davido charged us far far less than his normal rates because he was invited by Jah Prayzah to grace his album launch largely because the two collaborated on the song My Lilly.
“He gave us very flexible conditions. In fact, we didn’t pay him in advance because we agreed with him that we would pay after the show,” Mharadze claimed, adding that the Nigerian star will definitely make his second tour of Zimbabwe once his legal woes are over.
“Unless something beyond our control happens, Davido will definitely fulfil the tour of the country sometimes this year. We are determined to ensure that he comes to perform here as originally planned.”

In a statement released yesterday, 2 Kings Entertainment promised to compensate those who bought ordinary tickets for $20.

“If you had bought a $20 ordinary ticket you can now bring a Plus One or get coupons worth $10 for drinks or snacks, meaning a regular ticket is now $10,” read part of the statement, adding that those who are specifically keen to see Davido should wait for the mooted replacement gig.
“If you had bought a ticket just for Davido, hold on to your ticket, a compensatory gig featuring the Nigerian star is being organised ...”

Four Feared Dead in Ivory Coast Crash.

A cargo plane has crashed into the sea off Ivory Coast, close to Abidjan airport, killing four people and injuring six.

The wreckage of the turboprop plane, which was carrying ten people, was swept toward a beach where rescuers treated surviving crewmen on the sand.

All four of the dead are Moldovan while four French nationals and two Moldovans were injured.
Local police told AFP the aircraft had been trying to land when it crashed.

According to local news site Ivoire Matin one person was taken into custody after the crash. It is unclear if they are a member of the crew.
Reuters news agency reports that the plane crashed during a storm with heavy rain and lightning.

The plane was a Ukrainian-made Antonov chartered by the French army as part of its anti-jihadist Operation Barkhane, a French military source told AFP

Six Feared Dead in Kenya Secondary School Attack.

At least five students and a security guard have been shot and killed in a dawn attack at a secondary school in northern Kenya.

According to the school's head teacher the attack was allegedly led by a former student who had been suspended.
He is accused of returning to dormitories at the school in Lokichogio on Saturday with two accomplices.
As well as killing six people, witnesses say they raped two girls and injured another 18 students.
According to the head teacher, the boy is said to be from nearby South Sudan and had fought with another pupil, which led to his suspension.

He returned to find the boy, but he was not at the AIC Lokichogio Secondary School at the time.
Turkana County Commissioner Seif Matata told Kenya's Daily Nation newspaper that the suspect "was heard telling fellow students that he is going to burn the school or he will come back and avenge because of the suspension".
The Kenya Red Cross says they have evacuated the injured.

Prison Authorities Assure Tight Security at Kirikiri Prison.

Prison authorities, yesterday, assured that security has been fortified at Kirikiri prison where notorious kidnap kingpin, Chukudemebi Onwuamagbu aka Evans, is awaiting trial and stated that he had no plans to escape from the prison as being rumoured.

During a musical concert organised by Lamboginny in conjunction with the Nigeria Prisons Public Relations, Officer of Nigeria Prisons, Francis Enobare at Kirikiri Medium Security, Apapa said that “the suspect was in high spirit and his lawyer had free access to him.

According to the Deputy Controller of Prisons; the notorious billionaire kidnapper popularly known as Evans did not plot to escape from our custody as claimed. The report is mere rumour, he is hale and hearty.
“There is no truth in that story published by one media house (name withheld) that Evans plotted to escape from our custody. He is in high spirit and he sees his lawyers as he wants. He has never plotted to escape since we took custody of him. The security around him is very tight; all our prisons are well fortified.”
He added that the musical concert was an avenue to build and discover talented youths inside the prison.
In his speech, Lagos state Controller of Prisons, Mr Tunde Ladipo, stated that the programme was put together to reshape the lives of inmates and make them more useful to themselves and the society after serving their jail term, adding that there were lots of talents behind the wall.
He advised the inmates to engage in productive behaviour, shun crime and any act that could bring them back or tarnish their image after serving their jail term. “When we discover them, we give them courage to build themselves and be useful to the society.”

Meanwhile, the organiser of the concert, Yinka Lawanson, popularly called Lamboginny said he would continue to partner with the Nigeria Prison Service to hunt and discover talented youths inside the prison. He also used the occasion to launch his album titled SALT. “The inmates were so happy. That is why I call on government to decongest the prisons.

There are many talented young men and women in the prison who felt that all hope was lost because they are unable to pay their fines. This partnership between me and NPS that gave me the idea of launching my new album in the prison. I believe this concert will give the inmates courage and make them to discover their talent,”he said.

Students Desert Their School Over Forceful Vaccination by Army in Delta State.

Public and private school children deserted their schools over rumored forceful vaccination by Army in Ovwie Local Government Area of Delta State.

The school children in Ugbomro community, were scared and consequently ran out of their schools for fear that soldiers were approaching to forcefully inject them with suspected substances.

Recent updates show that virtually all schools have become empty with no students or teachers available for activities.
The incident has caused serious tension in the area as parents were equally seen running down to pick their children from school at about 9am.

Teachers also vacated the school premises to avoid getting mobbed by the fearful parents.
But the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Zanna Mohammed Ibrahim, in a statement signed by the Delta State Acting Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Andrew Aniamaka had on Wednesday October 11 told Deltans to dispel the rumour that security agencies were engaged in forceful vaccination/injection of school children with suspected substances in neighbouring Anambra State, and are likely to come to schools in Delta State to do so.

CP Ibrahim insisted that there was no cause for alarm as Delta is safe, calm and secure.

Photographer Paola Peredes first caught the media’s attention with her powerful photo series “Unveiled” where she documented the moment she told her parents about her homosexuality. And now she’s taking it further with her new series titled “Until You Change”, where she re-enacts the horrible events that take place daily in the Ecuadorian rehab facilities that ‘cure’ homosexuality in the most brutal ways.

A friend tipped her off about the clinics that claim to ‘cure’ homosexuality using torturous techniques such as starvation, abuse and sometimes even ‘corrective rape’. These clinics hide under the official operations like treatment facilities for alcoholics and drug addicts, but for a charge of $500-$800 a month, they also ‘treat’ gay people.

“Since I was going through my own personal journey with my sexuality at the time, it affected me in a completely personal way,” Paola told Huck Magazine. “The thought that I could be locked up in one of these clinics myself lingered in my mind for years and I think, deep down, I knew I had to create something about it.”

So she went undercover. Wearing a microphone, hidden in her bra, she was taken by her parents to one of these facilities, to get closer to these horrors herself: “What shocked me the most was when I saw the girls,” says Paola. “They had been forced to wear makeup and my informants had described it perfectly: bright red lips, pink cheeks, and blue eye-shadow.”

This inspired Paola to recreate some of these moments in her gripping photo series which aims to educate people about this dire situation that’s happening not only in Ecuador, but also in Europe, the US, and South America.

In the bathroom, she must be vigilant when mopping and scrubbing every surface with a toothbrush. She must pick up all the hairs on the floor. If she makes a mistake, an orderly pushes her bare hand into the toilet bowl and holds her down until it is clean.

She is alone for a maximum of seven minutes, a minimum of four, for her shower. Ahead of her, hours of Catholic music, study of Alcoholics Anonymous literature and therapy for her homosexuality ‘disorder’.

Young Ecuadorian women have provided testimony that they were raped by male employees as part of ‘treatment programs’ to cure homosexuality. Others have some form of memories or nightmares suggesting that they were sexually assaulted, possibly after they were drugged.

Under the gaze of the male therapist, the girls are made to dress in short skirts, make-up and heels and to practice walking like ‘real women’. The act is emotionally draining and physically painful.

One inmate knows she is not allowed to talk to the other girls. She is caught passing notes and taken to the therapy room. When she arrives, alone, loud religious music is playing. The therapist hits her in the chest, orders her to kneel on the cold floor and spread her arms. She takes the weight of the bibles, one by one, and is still.

Refusing to eat leads to questioning the authority of the staff. Later, she is kicked into a corner by a male employee to set an example to the others.

In Ecuador, approximately 200 facilities exist to ‘cure’ homosexual men, women and transsexuals. Unfortunately, the majority of these centers remain open because they are disguised as Treatment facilities for alcoholics and drug addicts. Imprisoned against their will, those interned are subject to emotional and physical torture, through force-feeding, beatings and corrective rape.

In front of the mirror, the ‘patient’ is observed by another girl, who monitors the correct application of the make-up. At 7.30am, she blots her lips with femininity, daubs cheeks, until she is deemed a ‘proper woman’.

As part of the daily regime designed to ‘cure’ women of their sexuality, exercise takes place in the early morning or late at night. A therapist or orderly shouts at the girls over push-ups and squats.

The beverage is worse than a beating. An orderly force-feeds the girl a corrective concoction of liquid for misbehavior. She does not know what she is drinking. The women in the center share their suspicions that the beverage contains chlorine, bitter coffee, and toilet water.

Sleep eludes the girls, told she is an abomination to her country’s God, a disappointment to her parents. She is an involuntary patient at an illegal, immoral clinic.

A girl is beaten with a TV cable for failing to pick up her bag from a chair, often other gay teenagers in the center witness this. A book of anomalies worthy of punishment is read aloud daily to the group.

The first time she was tied up was the night her parents hired men to sedate and kidnap her in order to bring her to the center. Once there, she has been tied to a bed or left in the bathroom on many nights.

Each imprisoned woman spends hours and hours of her time on cleaning duties. Each day she is allocated to a cleaning group for the office, corridor, kitchen or bathroom. The girls later recall feeling empty or worse, feeling nothing. If the staff are not satisfied with her work, they insult and beat their charge on the spot.

Positive Injury News at Last for Chelsea

The Blues weren’t able to quickly bounce back from defeat against Man City due to the international break, and so that loss has been going round and round the minds of those in the pub.

To make matters worse, they’ve had uncertainty surrounding the fitness of Alvaro Morata, who suffered an injury against the Citizens, leaving fans sweating on whether he will be able to feature against Watford.

Unfortunately for the Blues, though, more bad news has come over the weekend, with N’Golo Kante also suffering an injury – meaning that arguably two of Chelsea’s most important players may not be fit to face Crystal Palace this weekend.

Fortunately, though, as per Matt Law of the Telegraph, the Blues do have something to smile about ahead of the game. Confirmingthat both Morata and Kante remain uncertain for the game, Law has added that Danny Drinkwater – who is yet to play for the Blues following a summer move – is edging back to fitness and could be available.

This is massive for Chelsea, particularly given the injury to Kante, as Drinkwater is arguably Chelsea’s best like-for-like replacement for the Frenchman.

Drinkwater has been injured since moving to Stamford Bridge, but he proved during his time with Leicester City that he is good enough to play at the highest level, and Conte will have no doubts about his quality if he does call on him.

Landlord’s Verdict

It seems unlikely that Drinkwater will start the game, given that he is unlikely to be 100% quite yet, but he could be a decent option for Chelsea.

Fortunately, if Kante isn’t available, Palace have been pretty poor over the last few weeks with regards to their attack, and so Chelsea shouldn’t struggle too much at the back.

Aisha Buhari, the wife of the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, recently came hard on the management of the Aso Rock clinic over alleged poor services, asking the authorities to give account of the huge budgetary allocation to the hospital.

The development came as the presidency announced plans to commercialise the State House Medical Centre (SHMC) for better health delivery system amidst mounting allegations of misappropriation and withholding of funds meant for medical supplies.

The centre currently offers free medical services to patients. It provides medical services to the president, vice president and their families, aides, members of staff of the State House and other entitled public servants. But Aisha’s husband, President Muhammadu Buhari, has been going to the United Kingdom for medical treatment despite the availability of free services at the clinic.

The Permanent Secretary, State House, Mr. Jalal Arabi, last week said the decision of the management to seek the commercialisation of the centre, among others, was to boost its revenue and augment the appropriation it receives from the government in the quest for better services.

But the wife of the President who berated the Chief Medical Director (CMD), Dr. Hussain Munir, yesterday expressed disappointment over poor services in the hospital despite huge allocations by government over the years.

Mrs. Buhari also took a swipe at the managers of the clinic, insisting that there is the need for them to tell Nigerians how the N3.89billion budget for the clinic last year was expended before it was reduced to N331.7millon this year.

“If the budget is N100million, we need to know ‎how the budget is spent,” she said at the opening of a stakeholders meeting on Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, Adolescent Health and Nutrition (RMNCAH+N) organised by her pet project, Future Assured.

At the event attended by wives of the governors of the 36 states, development partners, primary health care coordinators, among others, Mrs. Buhari lamented: ‎”You are all aware for the last six months, Nigeria wasn’t stable because of my husband’s ill health, we thank God he is fully recovered now.

“If somebody like Mr. President can spend several months outside Nigeria, then you wonder what will happen to a common man on the street in Nigeria.

“A few weeks ago, I was sick as well, they advised me to take the first flight out to London. I refused to go. I said I must be treated in Nigeria because there is a budget for an assigned clinic to take care of us.

“If the budget is N100 million, we need to know how it is spent. Along the line, I insisted they call Aso Clinic to find out if the x-ray machine was working. They said it was not working. They didn’t know I am the one that was supposed to be in that hospital at that very time.

“I had to go to a hospital that was established by foreigners in and out 100 per cent. What does that mean?

“So, I think it is high time for us to do the right thing. If something like this can happen to me, no need for me to ask the governors’ wives what is happening in their states.

“This is Abuja and this is the highest seat of government, and this is the Presidential Villa. One of the speakers has already said we have very good policies in Nigeria. In fact, we have the best policies in Africa but the implementation has been the problem. So, we need to change our mindset and do the right thing.”

She added: “ I’m sure Dr. Munir will not like me saying this but I have to say it out. As the chief medical director, there are a lot of constructions going on in this hospital but there is no single syringe there, what does that mean? Who will use the building? We have to be good at reasoning. You are building a new structure and there is no equipment, no consumables in the hospital and the construction is still going on.”

President Buhari’s daughter, Zahra, also recently took to her Instagram handle @mrs zmbi, on Saturday, where she raised concerns over the poor state of the hospital despite the allocation in the 2017 budget.

She specifically called out the permanent secretary in the State House, Arabi to provide answers as to why simple drugs as paracetamol, and consummables as syringes and gloves were not available, leaving patients and staff to individually source those items.

Using the hashtag#statehousepermsecplsanswer, she asked: “Why isn’t there simple paracetamol, gloves, syringes, why do the patients/staff have to buy what they need in state house clinic?

“More than N3 billion budgeted for state house clinic and the workers there don’t have equipment to work with? Why?

“Where is the money going to? Medication only stocked once since the beginning of the year? Why?”

While clearly avoiding responding to the president’s daughter, the permanent secretary said the management would, among other things, seek the commercialisation of the centre .

Kenyan opposition leader Raila Odinga has pulled out of October's election re-run.

The election re-run was due to take place on 26 October, but Mr Odinga said on Tuesday: "We have come to the conclusion that there is no intention on the part of the IEBC [electoral commission] to undertake any changes to its operations and personnel... All indications are that the election scheduled for 26 October will be worse than the previous one."
As a result, he said, "considering the interests of the people of Kenya, the region and the world at large" it was best that he withdrew from the race.
Mr Odinga's coalition party believes the election will have to be cancelled as a result of his withdrawal, allowing "adequate time to undertake the reforms necessary to conduct an election that is in strict conformity with the constitution, the relevant laws and the constitution".
But Mr Kenyatta, speaking at a rally in the southern town of Voi, said: "We have no problem going back to elections. We are sure we will get more votes than the last time."
He added: "We are also telling him it is the people's right to choose their leader. It is their sovereign right to choose their leader of choice."
Mr Odinga's opposition coalition - the National Super Alliance (NASA) - has previously made clear its participation in the election was contingent on reforms being made.
But Kenya's Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) says it has made the necessary changes.
Prominent opposition senator James Orengo has called on people to protest on Wednesday, using the slogan "no reform, no elections".
Mr Odinga said his withdrawal would give the electoral commission enough time to introduce reforms that will help deliver a more credible election.
The Supreme Court annulled the result of the original 8 August poll, which saw Uhuru Kenyatta declared winner, after finding irregularities.
But Mr Kenyatta says he is ready to proceed with the new vote as planned.
The country's electoral commission said Mr Kenyatta had won the August vote by a margin of 1.4 million votes - or 54% of the total, compared to Mr Odinga's 44%.
Kenya's vice-president, William Ruto, has now called on the commission to declare Mr Kenyatta president as a result of Mr Odinga's announcement.

European powerhouse Spain bounced back from their opening loss in style and notched up a 4-0 victory over Niger in a Group D match of the FIFA U-17 World Cup here today.
The reigning European champions suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of South American giants Brazil in their opening encounter last Saturday, but recovered swiftly to open their account in the tournament.
Spain went up 1-0 when Abel Ruiz's tap-in found the back of the net in the 21st minute. Ruiz was at the right place and easily converted Juan Miranda's cross from the left flank, leaving the Nigerian defence napping.
While Niger would not have been happy with that shoddy piece of defending, the Spanish looked raring to go and stamped their authority.
Spain doubled the lead just before the half time, and again it was Ruiz, who was in the thick of things as the Barcelona youth player scored off a Sergio Gomez free-kick in the 41st minute.
Niger's agony did not end there as Spain added one more goal in the first-half injury time through Cesar. Ruiz's attempt was palmed away by the goalkeeper and Gomez sent in a curling cross towards the ball and even before the keeper could make a clearance, Cesar placed it in the roof of the net.
The second half began on better note for the Africans as they went without conceding till Gomez hit the target in the 82nd minute. The Niger goalkeeper had no chance against Gomez's left-footer from outside the box.
Gomez's strike completed a rout that put Spain firmly in contention for a knockout berth from the group.

Liverpool have announced that Sadio Mane could be out for up to six weeks after picking up an injury on international duty.
Mane was substituted late on in Senegal's 2-0 World Cup qualifying victory against Cape Verde on Saturday.
On Tuesday afternoon, Liverpool confirmed that the winger's injury will sideline him for well over a month.
"Sadio Mane is facing a spell on the sidelines after sustaining a hamstring injury on international duty, Liverpool FC can confirm," a club statement read.
"The winger was substituted 89 minutes into Senegal's 2-0 World Cup qualifying win over the Cape Verde Islands on Saturday.
"And it has now been confirmed that he picked up an injury during that fixture that could keep him out of action for up to six weeks."
The development is a significant blow to Liverpool's aspirations in the Premier League and Champions League, with Mane being integral to Jurgen Klopp's forward play.
The 25-year-old has played nine times for Liverpool this season after recovering from knee surgery, which cut short his excellent first campaign at Anfield.
The first game Mane will sit out is Manchester United's visit to Anfield on Saturday afternoon.

Toke had filed for divorce in March 2016 on grounds that her husband committed adultery.
Mr. Ayida, according to judge, Morenike Obadina, filed an answer to the petition but did not give oral evidence to support it. She said the position of the law was settled as pleadings did not amount to evidence

"Pleadings on which no evidence was led are deemed abandoned. Therefore, Ayida's evidence is deemed abandoned. The effect is that the petitioner's evidence is unchallenged and uncontroverted," she ruled.
