The Tall Bike Posse is sending out a call to artists for BIKE ART 2009. This is our third year putting together a bike art exhibit for SLO County’s Bike Month celebration in May. Our past success has preceded our planning and expectations are high. We have partnered again with the San Luis Obispo County Bicycle Coalition to be our non-profit benefactor. Last year’s month long exhibition raised over $1000 for the Coalition. Be a part of this event and raise awareness about bicycling through your art. Deadline for submissions is April 18th.

Here is a Poster I did for Don Lampson, a singer, songwriter and the real thing. See him at the Steynberg Gallery 01-31-09. His music is contemporary western ballads, folk and tempered wisdom from real life stories, having a big heart and a voice that resonates. Another Santa Margarita talent Jade Jackson will open for him. Haute Couture a la CalTranz

As you know, we haven’t done our section of Highway lately. The reason is that Caltrans has updated their safety standards for all Highway maintenance activities.
According to Jeanette Green, our Adopt-a-Highway Coordinator: “Yes, still on hold until the new required Class II ANSI vests arrive. The last word from Headquarters were that they were still traveling on a slow boat from China. As soon as they come in, we will distribute. Thanks for asking and have a safe and wonderful holiday!”
So in a nutshell, we will get back at it when we have our new vests.

Next year we are going to add to our cleanup, a wildflower program to plant along our stretch. More on that later.

I wanted you to know about the upcoming cyclo-cross event at Talley Vineyards in January. It’s the best of bicycle martyrdom I’ve witnessed yet. Make sure you plan on being there with your family. It should be cold wet and hopefully muddy by that time. The best part; you can watch the racers on the 1.8 mile circuit from the comfort of the tasting grounds. No need to put down your glass of wine;) Spread the word beyond the bike geeks.

Join the Tall Bike Posse Saturday November 8th at at Steynberg Gallery for another chance for us to show off our tall metal steeds and blow some hot air on a standing room only crowd. The event is called Pecha Kucha – 20 slides 20 seconds each. Slam dance poetry meets “Get to the point”.

Deputy Tom, Yardsale Dan and myself will share the stage and make people see what we do from a different perspective. POSSE UP and check us out.

Tall Bike Posse was invited to be a part of the community at the Jeep 48STRAIGHT Mountain Bike races at the Madonna Inn. Deputy Tom and I hauled our junk up the hill to the race course for a day of dude watching, beer swilling and to answer the age old question “How do you get up there?” The tone was better than past events with the sounds of Bret Dennon and a little more community flair. The competitors were great to watch. I didn’t catch if there were any locals that made the qualifying event. Does anyone know?

We had nothing to lose showing up at the “Green Fest” and I’m ready to show off again next year with our Funky Klunkies if they’re willing to pay us with free beer, Yee-Haw!
