It brings me so much joy to create and share memories with my daughter. Ever since I can remember, I have always wanted to be a mother and I am so grateful to God that I am able to live this life. This trip was special in so many ways and seeing the world through my daughter's eyes made it so worth it even though we missed daddy every day. We shot these looks on the grounds of the beautiful resort we stayed at. Every corner of this place was picture perfect which made for an effortless shoot and I must say, I was very impressed with my daughter for smiling through them and being a great sport. Dare I say she is truly made for this fashion life.

THE PERFECT FLORAL JUMPSUIT FOR SPRING

Today’s look was shot while I was on vacation in Mexico. My Daughter and I vacationed at a small, private and exclusive resort with our best friends and had an awesome time. I wore this fabulous floral jumpsuit out to dinner one night and got so many compliments on it. A floral jumpsuit is a great choice for a beach getaway. It’s easy to pack and transitions seamlessly from day to night. What I particularly love about this jumpsuit, is the front cutout/ tie detail. Depending on the look you're going for, you can style it for day time by making the bow from the tie drape low or for night time by tucking in the tie to reveal a little bit of cleavage. Happy Monday! I recently visited Tulum, Mexico with my little girl. It had been over 2 years since my last out of the country holiday not because of any financial constraints, but because life sometimes happens. Today's post features this fabulous Ankara print dress by Grass Fields. I love this dress because of it’s laid back yet stylish silhouette, as well as the pretty leaf patterns located all over the dress. I literally almost blended in to my tropical environment. In addition to the off the shoulder detail which is still a major trend, the dress also has the tie detail located around the waist which accentuates the smallest part of your waist which is a bonus. This was definitely one of my favorite looks from the trip. I will be posting more looks from the trip in the next few weeks so stay tuned.

HOW TO TRANSITION YOUR WARDROBE INTO SPRING

It might not be Spring outside but according to our calendars, spring is here. I don’t know about you, but the one thing that is getting me through the up and down weather is the fact that I know that spring is on the horizon. To get ready for spring and all the fabulous fashion this season has to offer, I have been layering my winter pieces with my new spring finds. This beautiful dress from Zara is a must have. The bold, and vibrant hue of the dress makes it spring appropriate. Because the color is so pronounced I paired the dress with a less conspicuous nude pair of shoes and a black light knit turtleneck sweater that do a great job of complementing the dress.

HOW TO MAKE: MOIST AND DELICIOUS BANANA BREAD

I must admit I am not much of a baker, but I have been making a conscious effort lately to try new things with my little girl. After being a lover of Banana Bread for many many years and sampling a few recipes, I have perfected my own recipe and want to share it with you guys.

INGREDIENTS ( Makes 1 Loaf )

3 Ripe Bananas mashed
2 Eggs
13/4 cups of flour
1 1/2 cups of sugar
1 cup of butter melted
1 cup of vegetable oil
1/4 cup of milk
1 teaspoon of baking soda
1 teaspoon of vanilla
1 teaspoon of vanilla
]1/2 cup of pecans (optional)

DIRECTIONS

Combine the oil, eggs, sugar, milk, vanilla and mashed bananas.

Add the baking soda and flour.

Combine well for 2-3 minutes.

Pour into a greased loaf pan and bake in a preheated 325 degree F oven for 1 hour 20 minutes.

This banana bread recipe is so decadent and moist. There is nothing low calorie about so indulge wisely.

I decided to step out of my comfort zone with the style of pictures that I take to try something new. This vintage leather jacket from Joyce's Closet has been on repeat. So versatile, chic and adds a bit of edge to any outfit. Getting these shots was a little risky ...lol It was shot in Balzac in -4 degrees Celsius with major traffic, but I think we captured the mood.

CALGARY'S NEW CENTRAL LIBRARY

The new Central Library in downtown Calgary just recently opened and I got an opportunity to check it out in person. This architecturally stunning structure, designed by Noway architecture firm Snøhetta is a sight to behold. The interior is just as amazing as the exterior, with lots of resources than just books.

The new library is equipped with lots of Calgary's history as well as resources for just about anyone. It has an impressive kids section, equipped with a play area to keep any child engaged than just reading.

A visual and audio recording studio that can be booked for a 2 hour time slot using your library card at no COST. There are also experts at hand to help you with any questions that you might have.

There are lots of scenic and quiet reading nooks all around the library with a coffee shop in the middle and bottom floor of the library that serves up all of your coffee shop favorites + WINE which makes for the perfect place to have a meeting, wind down after a long day at the office or to meet up with a friend.

One thing that stood out to me and that I absolutely loved was the private inter-faith room that welcomes everyone religion to come together and pray. There is so much to see and I would highly recommend you check it out at some point.

My Daughter's entire outfit is from H&M and her shoes are from Zara Kids.

My little girl is growing up so fast and not so little anymore. She is a bundle of Joy and has so much energy. She reminds me of myself as a child. Some days, her favorite spots to hang out is on the dining table and kitchen counter and other days she can be found rummaging through all the cupboards in our home. She is funny, sweet and has a mind of her own just like her father. On another note, I love the change of seasons and all the colors of FALL. This skirt, leather jacket and vintage Chanel flap bag are all beautiful vintage pieces in my closet for FALL that I absolutely love and have been on heavy rotation. My love for Vintage has grown lately from running a consignment shop because of the quality and craftsmanship of how things were made back in the day.

Although my go to style is more feminine, I sometimes enjoy a more relaxed, care free look. These jeans are my absolute favorite from H&M. They have been through a lot as you can see, ripped beyond recognition, but I LOVE em and think it adds character to them. It's been a busy summer trying to juggle running a growing business, while still being a wife and a mom but I am some how getting lots done and enjoying every moment of it.

August is finally here and my goal is to enjoy the last few weeks of summer, take more pictures with my family and spend more time outdoors.

Although it may not seem like it, it has taken a lot of courage to get back in the front of the camera. Having a baby does something to your body that can never be repaired, but let me tell you something, it was worth every minute of it and I would do it all over again as a matter of fact, we are currently working on it. Although I am back to my pre-baby weight, I still have a lot of work to do to get to a place where I feel 100% comfortable in my own skin.

My style has always been classic and I look up to classic style icons like Olivia Palermo, Jackie O, Candace Bergen just to name a few. This Zara dress is definitely a classic. A flattering silhouette that hugs in all the right places and can be dressed up or down perfectly paired with my go to shoes for the season; these beautiful rose gold mules that I seriously can't get enough of. Expect to see them in every style post until I retired them for the season.

THE SWEETEST MOTHER'S DAY

It's my first Mother's Day and I would like to give myself a pat on the back. I am sure all you mama's out there will agree with me, it's bloody hard to keep it all together and I only have one baby. How the hell do you all do it with multiples? I am grateful to have a very hands on husband who isn't afraid to change diapers, feed our baby or rock her to sleep. Frankly, she prefers her dad over me some days. Between juggling being a wife, mom and multiple business endeavors I have some how managed to find a sweet spot where everyone is sort of happy and things get done.

After 11 months of not doing much for myself, I treated my self to an early Mother's Day spa day and it was the best decision I ever made. I needed to refuel my tank in order to give back to my husband and baby. I especially want to thank MY MOTHER who did it 6 times over. I appreciate all the sacrifices you've made for me and I can truly never repay you for it.

To all the mamas out there trying to keep it together, I salute you. Just know that you are doing a great job and deserve all the accolades.

I thought I'd piggy back on my last post regarding my Favourite Bags for Spring with one of my recent purchases. I purchased the Gucci Marmont Super Mini in red and I am absolutely in love with this bag. It is super popular right now and hard to find. Just like the name says, it is tiny, but it does fit quite a bit. It's the perfect going out bag and I love its versatility. It can also be worn many different ways. As a shoulder bag, clutch, cross body bag, belt bag and the list goes on. As a new mom with a small baby, this bag works perfectly as a cross-body for me. I tend to lean towards cross-body bags these days so I can free my hands for my bubs. It also fits perfectly in my diaper bag. I have rounded up my essential of what goes in my bag every day. I had to swap out my full size wallet for the card holder in this case. This bag can also fit an Iphone 8 with a case.

FAVORITE DESIGNER BAGS FOR SPRING

I have always had a love for designer handbags ever since I can remember. The quality and craftsmanship is unmatched. I always look at a designer handbag purchase as an investment because the value of the bag goes up in price every year and can sell in the pre-loved market for what it was purchased for if you do decide to sell it in the future granted it is in excellent condition. You are guaranteed to get up to what you purchased it for if you keep the receipt, dust-bag, box and tags. This doesn't apply to all designer brands, just a select few. The top designer brands with the highest resale value are Louis Vuitton, Hermes and Chanel and within those brands, only certain styles hold their value.

My first designer handbag was a Louis Vuitton Speedy 30 which I purchased for $895. I still have it and wear it to this day and it has almost doubled in value since I first purchased it 8 years ago – win! I will definitely do a post later showcasing my entire collection. Not a big collection, but definitely one that packs a punch with all the essentials.

I would definitely consider this bag a classic and one that will be relevant and will hold it's value for many years to come.

The Saint Laurent cross body bag is definitely pricey for how big it is, but it's a super cute bag that fits quite a bit for its size. I recently received one as a gift for my birthday and love it. It's made out of a textured durable leather that will stand the test of time. I would consider this a timeless classic piece with a decent resale value.

This bag is definitely one of my favourites. It's been around for quite a while and definitely an affordable starter bag. What I love so much about it is its versatility. It's also a durable and care free bag because of the canvas material. TIPS & TRICKS FOR NEW MOMS

Whether you’re a first-time mom like me or someone who has been blessed to be a mother more than once, I am sure you can all agree that EVERYONE thinks they are an expert when it comes to parenting. I have never in my life received more advice from friends and strangers alike until I gave birth to Ini. While some has been solicited, the majority has been unsolicited and I can’t say that it all works for us because let’s be honest, every baby is different. It took 3 months before I started to get into the groove of things and being a mom felt less chaotic. Thanks to my mother and sisters for helping get through the crazy days.

I have taken some tips from my mother, sisters and mommy friends and have developed some of my own along the way during the last 8 months that has helped me navigate this new world of motherhood. Having a newborn by no means makes me an expert either but I wanted to share a few things that has worked so far with us and has kept both mama and baby happy and healthy.

Supplements for Newborns
Giving your baby supplements can significantly help ensure that they get what they need for healthy development. We have been giving Ini vitamin D3 drops since the day she was born. Vitamin D3 drops help their bodies absorb and use calcium and phosphorus for strong bones and teeth.

At home we use D Drops for Babys for Ini and love it. It contains no sugar/sweeteners, corn, starch, gluten, wheat, yeast, artificial flavours or preservatives. D Drops Vitamin D3 Drops also come in a gravity bottle specifically designed to release the appropriate dose of 400 IU (10 mcg) every single time, which is just one drop. This makes things super easy as there is no measuring. And as fussy as babies can be in regards to administering pretty much anything into their mouth that’s not breastmilk or formula, the drop can easily be taken during their feeding by placing it on your breast (or bottle) nipple and they don’t notice a thing!

Diaper Bag Prep

I packed my baby's Coach Diaper Bag before she was born by looking up what needed to go in there, but trust me, you don't really realize what you need until you've been out a few times with baby. For the expecting moms- here is how to make the process seamless:

Start Small. Instead of packing up for a whole day out on the town, try just going for a long walk or a trip to the mall. This requires much less for you to have on hand. Once you have nailed the short outings, then you will have the confidence for longer ones.
Pack The Night Before. This is a game-changer and saved my life. It totally eliminates the stress of accidentally forgetting something important. I had actually left the house without extra diapers and a change of clothes earlier on and just take a guess who had a poo explosion. When you’re not rushed to be anywhere you can take your time which significantly lowers your stress level.
Do Weekly Inventory Checks. Babies grow FAST. If you like to keep extra changes of clothes in the bag, make sure to take a look at the onesies and pants in there. You would be surprised, not swapping out these items for just two weeks can leave you stranded with clothes that no longer fit if you’re out and need to change your kid.
Simplify Bottle Making On-The-Go. If you are exclusive formula feeding your baby or use it occasionally for supplemental feedings, find one of those pre-portioned formula containers so you can easily make bottles on the go.
Different Food Options On-The-Go. Chances are your baby will become more picky with food as they get older. It's always best to have different options on hand. I can't even count how many time having a pack of Mum Mum or baby cereal has saved my life.

Car Travel Without Meltdowns

Its not uncommon for babies to have a meltdown when they are put in the car. I have assumed it has to do with the car seat as babies generally love motion. Ini had so many meltdowns when she was younger I can't even count. It got to the point where I had to drive in the back seat with her while my husband drove to sooth and calm her down. We are now at a point where she is either so relaxed she's sleeping or cooing away in the back. I would advise you to make sure your baby is well feed and changed before heading out for a car drive. Having a mirror facing the baby has been very helpful. I absolutely love the Brica Baby In Sight Mirror. It comes in handy when checking on baby to see how they are doing or simply just making eye contact with them which can instantly calm them down when driving.

The learning curve with a baby is steep and I have discovered new tips and tricks as baby grows. Doing what works best for you is key to a healthy and happy baby.

STAYCATION AT THE MARRIOTT YYC IN TERMINAL HOTEL

This past weekend I had the pleasure of being invited amongst other well known Influencers in the city for a 2 day weekend staycation at the Marriott In Terminal Hotel at the YYC Airport and what a memorable weekend it was!

A hotel with amazing architectural designs featuring scenery from the Rocky Mountains and amenities that matches and beats anything you would typically find downtown.

Upon checking in, I was greeted by the nicest concierge named Di. He quickly directed me to the front desk and helped me with my luggage up to the room.

I checked into a super cozy room with amazing views of the Rocky Mountains and the airport tarmac. I was greeted with a welcome note and a DIY Saskatoon Berry Mule with an itinerary of the evening.

The first item on the itinerary was a cocktail making session with Marker's Mark. The winner of the contest would have their creation featured on Yakima Social House's cocktail menu for a whole month. I made a tasty concoction called " The Rosie" It was a perfect blend of Marker's Mark, Raspberry, Sage, Rose Chips, Rose Petals garnished with a rosemary, mint leaf and a sugared rim. My cocktail placed 3rd place out of 11 cocktails and I was super surprised, but pleased as I was gifted a cocktail making kit.

The Marriott prides it's self in supporting small local businesses and on day 2 we toured one of The Marriott YYC's longest running partnerships; Half Hitch Brewery located in Cochrane. We got to see first hand the process of brewing beer from start to finish and it was quite intriguing as I had never been in a brewery before.

We were treated to a 3 course dinner on the evening of the second night. What was unique about this experience was that it an interactive style dinner. We got to make the appetizers and dessert our selves.

My staycation at the Marriott YYC In Terminal Hotel was exactly what I needed to celebrate my birthday with my girlfriends. If you ever think of having a staycation in the city, the Marriott In Terminal Hotel YYC should on the top of your list.

NEW YEAR, NEW ME: I'M BACK

Hey guys! I know it's been a while since I last updated my blog, but Guess what?! I'M BACK.

I started this blog 7 years ago as a creative outlet talking about Fashion, showcasing all the things I enjoyed and giving you guys a glimpse into my life and that still holds, but a lot has changed in this time. Blogging has provided many wonderful opportunities and has lead to the launch of my business, Joyce's Closet which started as a section on this blog and has since turned into an award winning Consignment Boutique . In the last 5 years of running Joyce's Closet, I struggled with balancing blogging and running a successful business and eventually the business took precedence and I put blogging in the back burner and only blogged sporadically.

In September of 2015, I lost my father to Cancer. It was a traumatizing experience that shook me to the core. It made me realize that it was time to settle down and start a family.

Also during this time, I met my husband and got married. We got married in a big traditional Nigerian wedding with over 250 guests surrounded by our friends and family. It was the happiest day of my life, but it broke my heart that my father never got to walk me down the aisle and give me away like I had always dreamt.

Most recently, we had a beautiful baby girl named Inioluwa Isabelle. She is the centre of our world and the most BEAUTIFUL girl in the world. You'll understand when you see her in person. Eyes so big, bright and full of LIFE.

In the last 8 months since my daughter has been born, I have felt the itch to start blogging again and share my new world and perspective as a thirty something year old, new mom, newlywed and GIRLBOSS. I have so much to share about the feelings, experiences and outfits that come with this new world.
