4th Street Lilac Festival 2013

The 24th annual 4th Street Lilac Festival is this Sunday May 26th from 10am-6pm. This festival marks the beginning of festival season in Calgary and will feature talented local musicians, over 500 vendors and great entertainment. Although the forecast for Sunday is calling for some rain, I'd highly recommend every Calgarian checking it out because it is definitely one of my favorite local festivals. Too bad I'll be missing it this year, but I'll console myself with laying by the pool in plus 30 degree weather sipping on Margaritas and shopping till I drop.

YYC Burger Week: Boogies Burger

Happy Friday everyone! In anticipation of YYC Burger week which kicks off today until May 10th at 16 restaurants in the city, I stopped by Boogies Burger, a well known local gem, serving up some of the best burgers since 1969.

The diner style burger joint was bustling with people when I arrived at 2pm last Saturday afternoon. After a few minutes of trying to decided on what to order, I settled for the ``Fay Burger``, a 100 % Alberta beef burger, topped with cheese, fried egg, mushrooms, onions, tomato, lettuce with an extra burger patty added. The fresh charbroiled beef was tender, juicy and each bite was as beefy as the last. This was one messy and delicious burger that beats any burger in taste and size that I have ever had and is one that comes highly recommended from the staff. I loved my first experience at Boogies Burger and can`t wait to explore the menu in the future.

I opted for just the burger, but you do have the option of adding fries, onion rings or even a poutine to any meal combo.

Skin Care Regiment

I have gotten a few emails regarding my skincare regiment in the past and thought I'd a post about it. For many years, I was plagued with bad skin ( acne, blemishes) you name it and tried everything you could possible think of just to help, but to no avail until I found these drug store products that I swear by and have helped my skin to what it is today.

Cetaphil Daily Face Cleanser ($20)

I use this cleanser twice a day in the shower and I love the way it leaves my face feeling. This cleanser works well for make-up removal and does not strip the skin of natural protective oils or emollients, or disturbs the skin's natural pH balance. I have noticed a huge difference in the last 4 months since adding this product to my skin care regiment and I would highly recommend it for anyone dealing with mild-severe acne.

Oil Of Olay Facial Cloth($9)

I wash my face every morning and night with the Oil of Olay Facial Cloth. It acts as a toner, mask and scrub all in one and does a good job removing dirt, oil and make-up.

Biotherm Aquasource Gel($48)

I use this product as my day-time moisturizer and I absolutely love it. It does a great job keeping my face hydrated and I also love the smell of it. The gel texture makes it perfect for daytime and it leaves my face feeling plump and radiant. I have been using this product for over 8 years would recommend it to just about anyone.

Neostrata Skin Renewal Peel($75)

I usually go to the spa once a month for facials until I discovered this product through a good friend. Neostrata Skin Renewal Peel which contains glycolic acid is a natural exfoliant. Glycolic acid works by breaking down substances that bond dead skin cells beneath the top layer of the skin, which contributes to clogged pores and dull skin. I use this product twice a month or more depending on the state of my skin and I find it leaves my skin feeling smooth and soft with a healthy glow. It also helps smooth out uneven facial tone and can reduce the appearance of surgical scars, acne scars, and other blemishes.

Creamery Triple Whipped Moisturizer ($52)

I first fell in-love with this product after attending their official launch party in late November of last year. This product is made from all natural edible ingredients and has SPF in it to help protect from the harmful rays of the sun. The moisturizer is customized to your skin type and skin color to get the best results. I would highly recommend their products to anyone living in the Calgary area.

Last Wednesday, I stopped by the Army & Navy Designer Shoe sale in search of some great finds and I must say I was very impressed with the shoes they had in stock. Although, I was unlucky finding any of the shoes on my wish-list, I did pick up a few shoes that are currently in stores for a fraction of the cost.

Weekly Adventures

Happy Thursday everyone! It finally feels like spring in Calgary today and I am looking forward to the weekend filled with lots of exciting things to do around the city. Here is a little bit of what I've been up to this past couple of weeks.

I attended an all-day symposium on "Inspiring Action" last Friday at the Calgary Zoo as part of professional development for work. The event showcased some inspiring speakers from all over the world, sharing their experiences and inspiring people to make a difference in the world. I loved that the event was at the Zoo because it added a fun and playful element to the event and gave everyone an opportunity to do something that they might not otherwise do.

I have also been doing some last minute furniture shopping as I am slated to move into my new home in 5 weeks.. I can't believe 6 months flew by so quickly. I 'll keep you guys updated on how it goes.

I also stopped by Wreck City, an impressive art experience curated by eight artists that runs from April 19th- April 27th, in 9 houses slated for demolition. The houses have been turned into temporary art displays with performances by over 100+ artists and musicians. It is definitely something to check out this weekend.

Updates On My 60 Days To A New You Challenge.

Happy Tuesday everyone! I just got some exciting news and can't wait to share it with you guys, but I have to remain mum for now. The last couple of months have been amazing to say the least. I have been riding this amazing wave of success that I never imagined and can only thank God for making it all possible.

I started a 60 day weight loss challenge a little over 8 weeks ago for an upcoming vacation and here are some updates on how it went. Just like with everything new, staying motivated the first couple of weeks is the easiest because the goal is still fresh in your memory, but as time goes on and the hustle and bustle of everyday life starts to take its toll, it becomes more of a challenge and harder to keep up, but I somehow managed to pull it off.

After 8 weeks of exercising 5 days a week and countless hours of meal planning and prepping, I shed 11 lbs and 12 inches all over. This challenge started off as a physical fitness challenge, but after 8 weeks I started to notice alot of changes, not only in my body, but also mentally, spiritually and in every aspect of my life that you can imagine. I started to challenge my ways of thinking and started to examine things I wanted out of life and with that came amazing breakthroughs that I never imagined. This experience has been very life changing and significant to the woman I am today. So I challenge each and everyone of you today to try and achieve a level of fitness you have always wished for because it will lead to breakthroughs in other aspects of your life that you never thought possible.

To me, exercising is a lifestyle and one I plan to keep for the rest of my life. Here are some ways I stay motivated with exercising daily.

- I work out with a buddy. Knowing someone is waiting for me at the gym gets me out of bed every morning.

- Working out first thing in the morning gives you the extra boost of energy to get through your day and it eliminates being too tired to go later in the day.

- Set small goals for what you want out of working out and the results will lead you to setting bigger goals and setting the bar higher once those goals are achieved.

Happy Tuesday everyone! Hope you all had a fabulous weekend and got some much needed rest. I had an amazing weekend at the GOWNTOWN event at Marlborough Mall and I am very proud to say it was a great success. I am so happy I got to be a part of such a great cause that gave back to a much deserving community.

Every month comes with new loves and as we inch closer to summer, I have been lusting over a few things. I usually shy away from bright lip colors until I tried this hot matte pink lipstick from Mac called Candy Yum Yum. It's the perfect shade for spring/summer and it looks amazing on. Also, that pastel green handbag by Rebecca Minkoff is a must have and is on trend with the pastels of the season. All I need now is for the weather in Calgary to cooperate, the question is when.

I often wish for peace and quite, but my life is consumed by work and so many other things that I never get to experience that. This past weekend, I took a break from the hustle and bustle of the city and headed west of Calgary to an incredibly beautiful town called Banff, nestled in between magnificent mountains with breathtaking views. Even though I have been to Banff a million times, I always discover new things to do and I am always taken aback by its beauty. There is something so serene about the nature, wildlife and simple life of the people that live there that makes me feel right at home and erases all my worries.

It was my girlfriend's birthday and she got to celebrate her birthday in an intimate setting, surrounded by close friends. Our one day trip entailed hot springs, dinner, popping lots of champagne and a night out in town. Even though I always complain about how busy my life is right now, I am in a happy place and wouldn't have it any other way. Enjoy some pictures from the trip.

Weathering The Storm

As I write this blog post, I am experiencing an enormous amount of pain and I can feel my little world crumbling underneath me. I pride myself in being an incredibly strong person who can weather any storm, but sometimes, the storm can be more than even the toughest can bear.

One of the best ways I have always dealt with pain has been to refocus and put 150% into everything else in my life . One, namely being, my physical fitness and that is what I plan to do. I thing I have come to realize is that no bad situation is permanent, but rather, shall pass with time. That being said, I've been through enough to know that this is just a phase and the clouds will part and I will feel the sun on my skin again. Now,the question is when.

In the meantime, I would like to share 10 Good Reminders For Stressful Times. Perfect for those of you going through a difficult time.

1. Happiness is never constant, and it's not supposed to be. You have to fight through some bad days to earn the best days of your life. To believe that you can reach a state of happiness and stay there forever, is like the tide believing she can reach for the shoreline and remain there forever; or like a fruit tree believing that if she only holds on tighter, she can keep her fruit from dropping to the ground. Happiness is simply a series of moments that come and go and add sweetness to our lives. Learn to accept this, and the more happy moments you will have.

2. Failures are temporary situations that teach us necessary lessons. Life's best lessons are usually learned at the worst times and from the worst mistakes. So yes, you will fail sometimes. The faster you accept this, the faster you can get on with being brilliant. You'll never be 100% sure it will work, but you can always be 100% sure doing nothing won’t work. Doing something and getting it wrong is at least ten times more productive than doing nothing. So get out there and try! Either you succeed or you learn a vital lesson. Win – Win.

3. Even if you can't see it now, you are making progress. You may not be where you want to be yet, but if you think about it, you're no longer where you once were either. You have good reason to believe that you can trust yourself going forward. Not because you've always made the right choices, but because you survived the bad ones, and taken small steps in the right direction. So cry for a moment if you have to, and get it out of your system. Crying doesn't indicate that you're weak; since birth, it has always been a sign that you’re alive and full of potential. Once you're done, keep going! You're undoubtedly getting closer to where you want to be.

4. How you feel when you're stressed is not a true measure of reality. Just because you're afraid, doesn't mean you're in danger. Just because you feel alone, doesn't mean nobody loves you. Just because you think you might fail, doesn't mean you will. Look beyond your doubts and keep searching for the truth. Be aware of your mental self-talk. We all talk silently to ourselves in our heads, but we aren't always conscious of what we're saying or how it's affecting us. The way to overcome negative thoughts and destructive emotions is to develop opposing, positive emotions that are stronger and more powerful. Listen to your self-talk and replace negative thoughts with positive ones. The sun is always shining on some part of your life. Sometimes you just have to forget how you feel, remember what you deserve and keep pushing forward.

5. You cannot change what you refuse to confront. You can learn great things from your failures and mistakes when you aren't busy denying them. If you've been asking the same questions for months or even years, yet are still stuck, it's probably not that you haven't been given the answers, but that you don't like the answers you were given. It takes a lot of courage to admit that something needs to change, and a lot more courage still, to accept the responsibility for actually changing it. The most important step forward is taking the first step. The simple act of getting started and doing something will give you the momentum you need, and soon you'll find yourself in a positive spiral of positive changes, one building on the other.

6. You are not what happened to you in the past. No matter how chaotic the past has been, the future is a clean, fresh, wide open slate. You are not your past habits. You are not your past failures. You are not how others have at one time treated you. You are only who you think you are right now in this moment. You are only what you do right now in this moment.

7. Not getting what you want can be a blessing. Not getting what you want is sometimes a wonderful stroke of good luck, because it forces you reevaluate things, opening new doors to opportunities and information you would have otherwise overlooked. Remember, some things in life fall apart so that better things can fall together.

8. Being a 'work in progress' is a great state to be in. Stop berating yourself for being a work in progress. Start embracing it! Because being a work in progress doesn’t mean you’re not good enough today; it means you want a better tomorrow, and you wish to love yourself completely, so you can live your life fully. It means you're determined to heal your heart, expand your mind and cultivate the gifts you know you’re meant to share. May we all be works in progress forever, and celebrate the fact that we are!

9. Nobody else can do it for you. Keep doing what you know in your heart is right for YOU. Let your dreams be bigger than your fears and your actions louder than your words. Live by choice, not by chance. Make changes, not excuses. Be motivated, not manipulated. Work to excel, not compete. Choose to listen to your inner voice, not the jumbled opinions of everyone else. It's your road, and yours alone. Others may walk it with you, but no one can walk it for you.

10. Life is not easy, but it's worth it. If you expect it to be, you will perpetually disappoint yourself. Achieving anything worthwhile in life takes effort. So start every morning ready to run farther than you did yesterday and fight harder than you ever have before. Above all, make sure you properly align your efforts with your goals. It won't be easy, but it will be worth it in the end.

PARKSHOW 2013: Bano Eemee

Leather is a timeless piece and is a must have in every woman's closet. Who says leather can't be worn in the spring/summer? Bano Eemee proved this at the showcase of his Spring/Summer 2013 collection at the recent PARKSHOW event. Beautifully cut leather jackets in the prettiest shades of pastel and spring perfect colors strutted down the runway as the crowd gasped with excitement! I spoke to Aleem Arif, the creative director of Bano Eemee, a few weeks back at the March launch of Freq magazine about his inspiration for this collection. He lit up with excitement as he divulged that he tapped into his Indian heritage by spending two months in Pakistan, to produce the leather jackets for the collection. Unbeknown to me, some of the best leather in the world comes from India, a fact I quickly learned after our conversation. Aleem to me is the epitome of what drive and determination gets you and I love his humility and kind soul. Check out a few of my favorite looks from the event

Outfit Post: Sunday's Best

Happy Wednesday everyone! I was a little unwell for the better part of last week, but I'm glad to say I'm almost back to 100%. Here is an outfit I wore to church this past Sunday. I paired my favorite Forever 21 leather pants with my favorite new peplum blouse from Topshop. Peplum is definitely one of my go to trends because it does a great job of hiding my problem areas. I've been very busy helping with the planning of gowntown and super excited to be part of a great cause. The event takes place on Saturday April 14th from 10-12pm at Marlborough Mall.
