Here is a picture of the gang. Mark was A Clockwork Orange, Erin was a dead cheerleader... recycled from moi, Anthony and I, our friend 90 was a mummy, and Eli...we said he got attacked by a cat!

It was a pretty fun night :) We went to a couple of house parties. The last party we went to 90 got a little stuffy in his costume and needed some help getting out of it.

HA! Yeeeaaahhh baby, yeaaaahhh!

We've Gone Green

I'm back with a little sneak peek! We painted our house finally. Sort of... The trim is not quite finished yet so here is a little sample to hold you over.

I'm already obsessing over doors.

Ours is a hollow metal door that right now is a funky shade of blue.

I found the most amazing website that specializes in retro doors. They have some to die for doors let me tell you. You can purchase the doors whole or purchase kits to spruce up the door you already have. Let's take a look at some of my top choices to go with my new green house.

Loving this rich glossy black.

A deep dark brown would look cozy.

A mustardy yellow gives a pop of color.

Can you ever go wrong with a classic red door?

I'm so jumping the gun when the trim isn't even done, but one can never plan to far ahead! These doors and more at Crestview Doors.

Hi everyone! I am still stirring over here in my neck of the world. I managed to snag a few vintage goodies at a garage sale last weekend. My itch has been scratched! ....for now, I am starting to feel the tingle again tho ;) I will have to do a proper post of my goodies soon.

I have been working on my Halloween costume some more. I think I jinxed myself after I blogged about my Pan Am Stewardess costume The prices just kept soaring on Ebay! Bags sold for up to $300! So I decided to change companies and go work with United Airlines!

I bought some wings off Ebay. One for my dress, one for my hat and one for Anthony's uniform.

I will probably relist the others for sale on my Etsy shop. I bought a bag on Etsy to use as a purse.

I always have to use something as a purse. I am not one of those girls who can go without my "stuff" lol ;) So I ended up purchasing a red felt pillbox hat at a resale store, I wasnt sure but it's perfect! That pretty much rounds out my outfit. I am clueless as to what shoes though. I have some red kitten heels with pointed toes. But it kills me that this part of my outfit wont be vintage. I know that I am probably the only one who will even notice so maybe I shouldnt stress ;)

So how is everyone's costume coming along?

Beach Palooza 5K - Galveston, Texas

What in the world came over me to sign up for a 5K? What in the world came over me to sign up for a 5K that included obstacle courses?! Peer pressure, that's what. I signed up for Beach Palooza at the urging of a friend who assured me it would be "fun" and "neat" and "cool". Yeah, she was right :) I totally had fun!

I did no training prior to this even other than the random runs I took in the panic filled two weeks before the event. My last real running was about 3 years ago. Yikes! Needless to say I did not pick up right where I left off. Haha! I had a great time and I can't wait to do it again next year :) Noooowww here come the pictures!!

Proof that I actually ran. Haha!

There were two other obstacles before this one. Easy Peasy. These noodles had bungee cords at your feet to trip you up. You, not me. I aced this one ;)

4th obstacle. Climbing over walls. Well, some of us were climbing. The girl with the knee brace must be lazy!

Platform jump! These guys were wobbly! And when you're up there, they look much further apart than they actually are.

When was the last time you climbed a 20 foot cargo net?? Word of advice...don't look up or you will get sand in le mouth.

Dock 15 minutes off my time for posing for pictures, hehehe! I'm such a ham.

Sand mound climb. Ugh. This one kicked my ass. There were about 5 sand mounds and after each one, a pit of water. Sand mound, water pit, repeat 4 more times.

The chain rope bridge! I was very shaky on this one.

9th obstacle, the balance beams. Who built these things?! Wobbly and scary.

Next up, the bungee ball pit. Maneuver through a maze of bungee cords, and....

....enter the pit of giant beach balls!

Deduct more time for more posing. *cheese!*

Out of the ball pit I was greeted with more bungees. Happy to say I didn't fall!

Almost done! Another water pit. Then it was on your hands and knees, crawl under a cargo net, and then another water pit. Water plus sandy shoes...ugh...my feet felt like I was wearing cement shoes.

12th obstacle was on fire! There were actually two of these lines of fire one after the other. Running up to it you could swear that you weren't going to make it. Yes, it was hot. You totally felt it!

The final obstacle wasn't really an obstacle. You wadded through a pool of ice cold water. SO refreshing. How they got that water to stay that cold I will never know.

After the ice bath it was a quick jog to the finish line. You see me? That is a genuine smile on my face. I had an amazing time.

Everyone got a medal and all the bananas they could eat which I passed on.

Anthony took all the pictures of me! So he pretty much, almost but not quite, ran beside me for the whole race. Good job to you too, babe!

Everyone also got one free Mike's Hard Lemonade drink! Yaay for free alcoholic beverages!

That run was the toughest thing I have done in a long, long time. Afterwards I felt so proud and exhilarated! I am so ready to do it again next year.

Then maybe you should take on the Tough Mudder! They have an obstacle called 'electric shock therapy'. Yeah, 10,000 volts baby! Um, I don't think I am quite ready for that one just yet ;)

I Miss The Thrill

*sigh* Another weekend coming up.

Why so sad about an upcoming weekend you may ask? Because it is yet another weekend where I do not go to any estate sales :(

Since I moved in with Anthony and got a job over here my thrifting in general has drastically dropped.

I moved clear across Texas (being dramatic, kinda) where apparently people do not have estate sales. My old job placed me in The Heights area of Houston. I had the luxury of leaving work at noon on Fridays. Usually my whole 8:30 to 12:00 work day Friday involved mapping out my plan of action. I would hit the estate sales hard....after I cashed my check of course. I had quite a drive to my new home. So why not take advantage of that fact and hit up all the estate sales in my area and down the beltway and swing up Westpark to Bellaire then go down I-45 South too?! {{ WHEW }} From 12:00 to 5:00 I was in heaven!

Would you look at all those sales over in old town?! UGGH. I am not that crazy about estate sales to wake up at the crack of dawn on a Saturday, use the gas, and drive an hour and a half "into town" to maybe find some stuff. If it was my source of income you bet I would be first in line with my Starbucks in hand.

Gosh, I sure do miss the thrill of the hunt. Walking into that house. Which room do I hit first? What's that thing over in that corner? What is that lady looking at? I want that! Only $1.00?! Mine!! (hehehe)

Well ave a good weekend of thrifting everyone! Think of me while you are digging around in the walk-in pantry of a Pyrex hoarder! ;)

I totally scared you didn't I?! Yes, I am back from the blogging dead :) *muahahahaha!* <-- evil laugh.

My mom told me that my followers were dropping like flies and I felt totally bad.....for them! HAHA! No, seriously. I miss you guys, come back! So what's up you may ask??

Halloweeeeen! That's what's up! Yes my favorite time of the year again. If you don't already know, I am obsessed with Halloween as evident here, here, and here. I realize that I never posted my Halloween costume from last year. Well the truth is that I did not get one. single. good. picture of me. *Waah* So, yeah, I ended up being a cheesey 70's tennis star and Anthony was my doubles partner!

That's me over on the right. The only picture of me from the whole stinkin' night. Ugh. I bought the dress on Ebay and it totally didn't fit. I had to rig it up with safety pins and do some horrible altering. I just wasn't as cute as I wanted to be and not very comfortable knowing my dress could fall apart at any minute. Anthony stole the show in his short short Adidas shorts made of terry cloth. See the guy crouching next to the ref? That's our friend Lloyd, he was Steve Erwin with the stingray barb. Tasteful, right? Well when the picture came out there was a orb in front of his face... We said it was the ghost of Steve Erwin!! Spooky right?

I found a picture of a tennis player dress costume I wore one Halloween in the mid 90's. I ended up selling the dress and racket on Ebay. Also sold on Ebay were my vintage Indian costume and authentic vintage German girl dress. (Which sold for almost $100 I might add!!)

Why, oh, WHY did I sell that Indian dress?! *sob*sob* (Geeze whats with that dorky smile?) Anyways we all know I am a major costume repeater so I'm sure you are not surprised that I was a tennis player before! Hehe! Soooo, this year I am NOT repeating a costume. But...I am peeved cause the costume idea that I thought of a LONG time ago I might add....is now a popular prime time TV show theme.

I am going to be a cute ass 60's flight attendant.....a Pan Am flight attendant specifically. UGHHH! I thought of it first! {{deep breath}} This TV show is making it very difficult for me to snag authentic vintage stuff off Ebay and Etsy....prices are getting jacked up like crazy! I am not completely copying the exact outfit, of course have to put my own spin on it ;) Here is the actual dress I am wearing.

So there it is out there to the world. I hope I dont see any other rival flight attendants or there might be a rumble. Anthony gets to be a pilot of course. I expect lots of "mile high club" jokes. Hardy-har-har.

So I know y'all have thoght about your costume as much as me, right? Come on, tell me what youre gonna be!

Dreaming of Green

I don't know if y'all have heard, but there is a major drought going on here in Texas. Like bad. It might be a good year since we have had some rain. Ok, maybe less but it feels like a year! So add in 103 degree weather plus water rationing and yeah...your lawn dies. So I have been sitting around dreaming of lush landscaping.

Back in June Anthony was a dear and surprised me with a new sidewalk. I totally love it! Here is a photo of the front of out house. Don't you just adore our huge magnolia tree?

We had a pretty harsh winter (for Texas) a couple of years ago and what pitiful landscaping we had froze up and never returned. Well I take that back. The only things to survive were a bunch of bulbs whose flower I have no clue of. And a flowering bush of some sort. Ha! Anyhow, here is a view of walking from the front door to the garage about halfway down.

We have another tree beside the house that the sidewalk winds around. It is surrounded by a lovely ring of dead grass and dirt. Oh, and that mystery bush lurking along the edge of the garage. Nice.

And below is a view of the front part of the sidewalk starting at the front door porch area. We need to paint the house still. The white is just a primer. Also that grey pipe thing needs to be removed. It leads to an outlet that doesn't work anymore. But yeah besides that, check out that barren strip of nothing under the window.

(I am all over the place with these pictures here.) Below is walking towards the front door from the garage.

I have a vision of a lush, overflowing garden of green, white and purple. I like the way it looks all wild!

I think most of these plants are shade plants but they are for my zone, which I found out is Zone 9. The above sidewalk photos were taken at 5:00 pm. I would say that area gets partial afternoon sun. The strip of sun under the windows goes away around 6:30ish. I know I will have to research my plants more but for now this is what I had in mind.

Pretty right? I am usually a sucker for symmetry like with the landscaping below. But it seems like the wild look would be a good contrast to all the squareness.

I really like those fluffy really green plants on the bottom. Does anyone know what they are?

I think those would be nice thrown in the mix :) Does anyone have a good website for plant shopping I can check out? Any advice for a Zone 9 kind of climate? With the drought I don't think that it's a good time to plant but a girl can plan and dream!

I'm going to just pass on all the explaining of where I've been (nowhere) and what I've been doing (nothing) and just get on with this *drum roll* Ikea Expedit Before and After Shift Stuff Around thing I did! It's far from perfect like I want, but it's nice to switch things up every now and then.

I updated my Etsy shop a little the past few days. I relisted some items and added some really cute new stuff too.

I know it's a little late in the season but I added an awesome bathing suit. I wish it fit me, I would totally wear it! Then I have a pink, funky, floral party dress, a 1950's pink lace cocktail dress, and a perfect crochet sun-dress.

I almost didn't want to list this zodiac makeup bag. It's so cute and unique, I would probably use it as a purse.

After I do a little tax free shopping tomorrow my goal is to list 5 new items. I already have the pictures taken but I might have to redo a few. You can see in the listing of the floral party dress that a few of the pictures are blurry. I swear I have a steady hand but no matter how steady I try to be there are always some blurry photos. I must have taken 15 pictures of this dress and the best ones still look kind of crappy. So today I invested some money in the hopes that it would help me make some more money.

Meet Trey, my tripod! Anthony and I picked him up at Best Buy for $34.99. It expands up to 54 inches and will hopefully keep my pictures nice and crisp. I can't wait to try him out!

Refinishing Vintage Wood Veneer - Part 1

I started to sand my thrifted coffee table Saturday morning before it got too hella hot. The top was in pretty bad condition. There were paint splatters, chips and scratches all over. Oh, and some nifty drink rings too

I had a blog post saved from one of my favorite bloggers, The Brick House, on refreshing vintage wood. So I figured I would follow her instructions step by step. I went out and bought all the supplies she suggested.

The Goof-Off wasn't part of it but just an extra that I needed anyway. I love that stuff! Ok, so now that I have all the supplies I take the table outside and start investigating.

Humm...it looks like...I have a veneer top. Ugh! Not in my plan. So I start sanding anyway, concentrating on this one spot.

Wow, this is going to take forever! Instructions were to lightly sand the top with very fine sandpaper, I used 220 grit. I must not have greased my elbow very well cause I didn't make much progress. I searched around a bit more and found a post from John and Sherry's awesome blog, Young House Love. They refinished a veneer dresser for their daughters room. They do not recommend sanding veneer that is paper thin, which is what I have it appears. Figures! But they do go to town on their dresser with an electric sander so I figured what the heck.

I used 180 grit which is a little rougher than the 220. I made a dent but nothing too drastic. You can see the parts where I have sanded the veneer top off. After a little while the heat from my hard core sanding was turning the dust into little hard veneer balls on my sandpaper. GRRR.

I need some help! Anthony came out and we decided to go ahead and try some 80 grit sandpaper which is pretty darn gritty. He put some muscle into it and it worked great!

I was trying to be way too gentle, but I figured I could always slap some new veneer on top if I messed it up! After a very short time I had all the brown veneer top layer off. I was very careful not to press too hard or go over one spot too many times.

I went over the whole thing once again with the 180 grit sandpaper to make the surface super smooth. I skipped the Murphys Oil Soap since the instructions said not to apply on unfinished wood. A few passes with a lint free rag to get all the dust off and I was ready for the next step. I applied a generous coat of the Teak Oil with a clean lint free rag and oh, my!

That's the result after I applied the oil, let it sit for 20 minutes, reapplied and let it sit another 20 minutes. Pretty spiffy if I do say so myself!

Anthony and I left the house for some grub and when we got back we discovered our dogs distroyed the house. Ugh. I was too distraught to concentrate on the table so I just brought it inside :(

We had a nice day at the beach on Sunday. We turned my friend, Erin into a mermaid!

Monday was a chill Independence Day over at Anthony's parents house. Ate too many hot dogs and watched fireworks. Very nice end to the weekend and a well deserved 3 day vacation. I really needed it after starting my new job on the 27th :) Stay tuned for part 2 of my coffee table redo!

Puppy Problems

Before I met my sweetie, I never owned a dog. I am more of a cat person. I don't know what it may show in regards to my potential as a parent, but you ignore a cat and they manage. A cat ignores you and you manage. It's a win, win situation. Dogs are way too needy for me. Dogs have lots of issues that I have just recently become aware of. We were temporarily dog foster parents to a sweet pit-bull a while back. Pearl was not too happy. Apparently dogs don't like other strange dogs on there turf. So what does the queen of the house do?

She chews up my NEW black heels. Now this was after she chewed up a pair of cute cork wedges, a pair of leather flats and a pair of flip flops the week before. You think I would have learned to pick up my dang shoes! But she has never, ever, ever chewed anything up in the 3 years we have had her. We kept Chief and her separated but I guess just the fact that his scent was around caused her to freak out.

Ok. You might want to sit down for this.

Well let me refresh your memory...

YES! Noooooo! %$!#%&@!$&%!$!!!!!! Pearl chewed up the knobs on my American of Martinsville credenzaaaaaahh! I could have dropped her off at the pound that very minute.

*sniff* Can it get any worse you may ask?
Yes. Yes, it can.

Now we have Duke, the puppy. He's a chewer.
Big time.

Ugghhhh. At least I had them for a good 3 years. That's roughly about $100 a year. *SIGH* Yes, we have chew toys. Yes, we have yummy bones and crispy pig ears. Chief, the pit-bull, is now gone. Everything is going to be all better now right?

We came home Saturday afternoon to this...

GAAH! What did I do in a previous life to deserve this?!?! At least the wood, wire frame and all the wiring were spared.

So there you have it. That's what I have been dealing with. We are going to get a crate and do what we probably should have done in the beginning. Anyone have any tips on crate training a puppy? Pearl was so good and didn't need to be crate trained. She slept on her bed and hung out till we got home. I am not looking forward to this crating at all. Two large inside dogs are more than enough.

Even though they make me so darn mad. They are so darn cute and I love them so darn much!

p.s. I did work on my coffee table Saturday morning, but the catastrophe put it on hold. I'll have to give a part 1 post and finish it up this coming weekend.

Hi, everyone! Today was my first day of work at my new job. Yikes! I'm so clueless! I wish I could fast forward a few months and know everything already. My new boss and I were chatting and he said his wife loooves to go to estate sales too! I told him she better stay off my turf. I really did! He's so nice and has a good sense of humor ;) Really though, I don't think I could do my thing with someone tagging along!

So on to my latest finds! I have been searching for a dress form mannequin for a long time. I was so tired of my tired little half woman hanging form. I wanted to be able to show shape in my clothes! I found this vintage mannequin on Craigslist for $40. Each piece moves with a wing nut and lemme tell ya, I about went nuts trying to get all the pieces close together. The bummer part? Her ass is too big...

I bought a couple of cute dresses at that costume shop estate sale for $3 each. But they barely fit over my mannequin's hips. Grrr! I'll have to do some more adjusting on her I guess. I also bought 7 totally awesome 70's ruffle tux shirts... for 50 cents each! The only "costume" I bought was a vintage nurses dress.

I wanted so many more things but I was dying inside the building. No air conditioning and the home was flooded during hurricane Ike so it stunk like wet dog and mold. One lady almost passed out in the garage it was so hot. I have seen the sale advertised again on Craigslist as 'appointment only' selling, but the dang woman wont return my phone calls ever. Maybe I sound to desperate :P Haha!

So I recently discovered our friend, Mike, has a resale shop! He buys storage lockers just like the guys on the show Storage Wars. The first time I go in I found this aluminum canister set. It's missing the "Tea" canister, but it's still a perfectly great set. He commented "You like all that old stuff, huh?" Yes! Call me when you get more in please! I am over due for a visit back there!

Ok, now we are caught up. This estate sale was this past Saturday and just down the road from me. I found this Rainbow Brite sheet set for $3. Its a full size flat, fitted and one pillowcase set. This set will go up on my Etsy whenever I...well, lets just say whenever.

I just love the chevron pattern of this crochet throw. $8! I am most def keeping this one for myself.

Can you believe this blanket was still available on 75% off day about an hour into the sale?! The blanket is in perfect shape, no holes or stains, and its all cotton. $30. BUT...It's not a blanket really. The woman who made it sewed it onto a sheet so it's really thin. So what! I'm just going to attach it to a thicker blanket! Duh! I am keeping this for myself also.

This little fan was $8 on 75% off day. I have a little collection of 3 vintage fans. I think I am keeping all of those for myself too.

And now for my most favorite find of the whole dang month!!! This vintage mahogany coffee table!

Stuck in the back of the garage...$17 on 75% off day! For those not keeping track this is my 3rd coffee table since I moved in. I bought a faux bamboo coffee table that's just chillin' in the den unfinished. I bought another coffee table on Craigslist that's in the living room. I haven't posted a picture cause we painted it and it turned out fugly. I'll have to post it anyway at some point so you can point and laugh.

My dream coffee table style turned into a mid-century, low and lean looker. I fell in love with this coffee table on Etsy. It has since sold. If you can believe it, it was only $175 too. Local pick up in Chicago only :(

I am very happy with my little table :) It needs some love as it has paint splatters on it and a few scratches. Also the veneer is peeling and yellowish. I will, no, I AM, going to refinish it THIS weekend. I am tired of simple projects taking me months to complete! Soooo, get ready for a coffee table makeover post on Monday or Tuesday!

Thanks for sticking with me y'all :) Now that I got my new job, I will get home in 30 minutes instead of an hour and a half. Plenty of time to get some stuff done around here!

Hey guys! Things have been pretty hectic over my way. Here is a quick rundown. I will go into further detail once the craziness is over :) (Is it ever really over though? Haha) Thanks for hanging in there with me y'all!

Ok, first news is we are currently proud foster parents to a sweetie pie, red nose pit bull named Chief!

He is Anthony's cousins doggie. She had some things come up and couldn't take care of him. It has been quite a time with 3 dogs around lemme tell ya. If you remember, our boxer Pearl had 8 puppies and we kept one, Duke.

Pearl has developed some chewing issues because of Chiefs arrival. I will have to go into more detail about that later. (GRR!) But we love Chief very much and will miss him when he is gone. He will be going into his permanent forever home in about a week or so. (WHEW!)

Next up. That sweetie pie, muffin top of mine surprised me with a freaking sidewalk! One day I left for work and when I came home...BAM. Sidewalk.

I know right?! No more heels sinking in the ground, walking in the morning dew getting grass stuck to my toes and shoes. Or worse, walking in the rain. Over time a walking path had been stamped out through the yard and it would get all muddy and puddled when it rained. No bueno. But yeah I am pretty dang excited about it.

I went to that awesome costume shop estate sale and yes it was pretty darn awesome. I picked up a few things which I will share with you at Apron Thrift Girl come Monday :) For now here is an item that I totally regret not buying.

Uggghh! Yes, a lucite cowboy hat! I should have bought it. It fit me perfectly too :( The $20 asking price was a bit over the budget that I was already over. Oh well. More good things will come I'm sure.

Next up... It was my birthday on June 5th! We went to New Braunfels and tubed down the Guadalupe River. Some locals call it toobing, which I like better ;) I had and absolute blast. Here are a few pictures.

It was so great that both of Anthony's brothers and their wives came. I could not have asked for a better birthday posse :) And now something silly. I realized that I was wearing the same bathing suit that I wore on a river trip at the same campsite for my birthday back in 2008. I had my friend Erin, who was there in 2008, recreate a picture we took back then.

Pretty cool, huh?! I don't think I have changed a bit :) ...well maybe there's a 5 or 6 pound change. Haha!

And now for a big bit of news. I. Got. A. New. Job! No more hour and a half drive to and from! I am no longer contract labor, I will actually get money back from the IRS for a change! I will have paid vacation! Lots of benefits! I get a pay increase!!! Weee! It is pretty bittersweet though. I have been with my employer now for 5 years. And I love what I do. But it's time for a change. I will be working...

No, I'm not going to be a pilot. Ha! I will be working at the airport as Miss Administrative Secretary to the director. (Not an official title, hehe.) My first day is Monday the 27th. Yikes! I'll be sure to fill you in.

Den Office Closet Makeover!

Lets take a little trip back in time to my dirty little reselling secret. The headquarters to my Etsy shop was in dire need of revamping. The poor little lucite desk just couldn't take it anymore! I had stuff upon stuff scattered all over the place. I felt very unorganized and the space just didn't get me in the mood to work on my shop.

Sure I knew where everything was, but boy was it an ugly looking mess. Not to mention it's a total waste of space.

Over the course of a couple of weekends we installed a much needed desk. Braces were nailed on the 3 walls and a piece of MDF fit right on top. We extended the shelves in their existing spots and cut off the extending braces that stuck out. Next we installed an inexpensive track light from Lowe's on the ceiling. Really makes a huge difference! I opted to put the switch on the outside, just next to the frame. We installed an outlet under the desk which was easier than I thought. The final step was drilling a hole in the desktop for the cords.

I sanded the walls. Caulked all the edges. Painted everything a bright, crisp white. Took a step back and enjoyed! ...After I swept up the gigantic mess of course ;)

The blank space in the middle was difficult for me to deal with. I was thinking maximum storage, but I didn't want the area to look cluttered. With shelves or nook boxes I felt I could let them get out of control too easily. Also I didn't want the over-head light shadowed by something sticking out of the wall. Simplicity was the way to go with that space. But simplicity in a WOW type way, ya know ;) I took a large thrifted faux bamboo mirror that I had stored in the garage and gave it a couple coats of paint.

Brought some life into that $20 mirror dontcha think? I used Valspar, Gray Teal paint. Which is more gray teal in person.

Ok, enough teasers! Here is the finished den office closet!

I can finally use my printer that I got for Valentines Day! My scale is within reach! No more going into another room to weigh my packages :) I bought a couple of linen fabric boxes for storage. Definitely going to need a few more of those.

On the other side I have cute pink and blue vintage in/out boxes holding my printer paper, tissue wrapping paper and my favorite shipping packaging, the ever so handy Priority Mail Tyvek envelopes. I narrowed a ton of stuff down to one box that now contains postcards, envelopes and other misc mailing supplies. See my two Ball jars? I have them filled with little trinkets, jewels and buttons :)

I used small white screw in hook thingies (yes, that's the technical name) to hold my tie backs. They blend in with the wall and are not a bit noticeable from far away. I used a wire edged ribbon to hold my table-cloth turned curtains from Target back out of the way.

So there you have it! We've come a long way since the beginning renovations of this room back in March of 2010 that's for sure!

There are still tweaks here and there that I want to do. As we all know the decorating and redecorating never ends! For now I am pretty darn happy with the outcome :)

Off at noon on Friday is seriously the best thing ever. After I cash my check I am heading out to Galveston to an estate sale that I've been stalking for weeks. The sale is that of a costume designer who had a theatrical design and costume shop. Hopefully the items will not be priced too crazy. Here is a peek...

Seriously!! Today is the first day of the sale. If things are priced too high I will for sure come back on the last day of the sale like an hour before they close. Hopefully they will be generous with their discounts :)

And now for my Craigslist Friday Finds! Yes, I just bought a headboard. But I do have another bed that needs one!

That's right. Sold right out from under me! And now for the really crazy part... She wanted $50 for both of them! I of course was, as she said, just a minute too late in calling. UGH. The middle piece was added by her to make a desk. Silly woman. They would make the most amazing night stands! Oh well. I'll just think I didn't want them anyways cause they have termites or something. Ha!

Is It Cool In Here Or Is It Just Me?

Yeah, it's me! Hehehe! No really though, we finally got our A/C installed! Just in time for the nice, sweet Texas summer ;) Our house has 3 bedrooms and two full baths. We had one window unit in the kitchen and a portable A/C unit in our bedroom. To heck with the rest of the rooms!

That was the view you had of the kitchen. (Before we installed the backsplash..). But yeah, it was sooo fugly! Such an eyesore. Some critters decided to make a big eyesore underneath the eve in the back of the house. UGH. I know. Grody. Anthony ripped the section out and removed the nasty insulation.

It really was a cinch putting up the new piece of plywood. I supervised and handed Anthony screws :)

We put in new insulation where the critters destroyed it. And then we set out some bait. We were pretty sure the critters were... rats! Ewwwww. Well we got rid of them. You could tell by the nasty stank of a dead rat in the back of the house. I'm sorry but its the truth! Oh, hush! One of yall has had this happen I'm sure!

I had to get out of the house when the installers came. I felt like I needed to help or clean up after them! But really I was in the way and I was giving myself anxiety. What are they doing now? Whats that? Are they going to do X, Y and Z?! Yeah, I went shopping. And when I got home....

..I had to turn down the A/C because I was sooo cold!! Haha! Really though I totally wear a hoodie inside :) Central air is awesome. Our electric bill is about $200 less than it was this same time last month. And lemme tell ya, that is really whats cool!

Wow. Blogger sure screwed up my posts in draft :( A little late but most def worth a look, here is the scoop on my thrifty weekend!

Anthony and I drove up to Houston early Saturday morning to pick up an item I bought Friday at an estate sale. The sale was pretty bitter sweet. It was my dear friend, Danielle's, grandmothers house. I had only been over a handful of times quite a few years ago, but once I walked in I remembered everything right away. It's a beautiful house. In their family for 3 generations! Danielle wanted to keep the house in the family but the aunts wanted the money more. That's just the way those things go sometime.

Lemme tell ya, Grandma had really expensive taste in Queen Anne furniture! I bought a funky-cool pink sweater for $1. It has these super soft white angora scallop pieces on the shoulders as well as massive shoulder pads. I could never sport shoulder pads. I have shoulders like a linebacker already, I don't need any more attention drawn to them! This will go on Etsy once it gets a little cooler. Someone will love it I'm sure

I mentioned a while back about this headboard I was lusting over. I saw it on Craigslist for $50 but didn't end up getting it. Well I've still been on the hunt for one with a similar style. The Queen Anne, Chippendale, French Provincial style. I want one to paint a funky color.

The one that got away.

Most of the headboards I have seen in this style end up being painted white and looking "shabby chic". Not that there's anything wrong with that! It's just not my style. The headboard below sure looks good painted white.

Sooooo...I bought this headboard at Grandmas estate sale for $35! It wasn't hers. The estate sale people brought it in from another sale. (I hate it when I catch them doing that!)

I plan on it going into the master bedroom. It's totally a blank slate in there. For now I envision grey walls and this headboard painted a mustard yellow.

Pretty sweet combo, right? I am going to attempt to do a thorough DIY tutorial post on this project. Attempt being the key word ;)

And the award for lazyest blogger goes to.....me! Ugh. I have many people to thank for this award. Anthony for insisting on eating dinner at night when I could be blogging. (hehe) My boss lady for giving me lots of work and making me stay late. To my friends for throwing great parties on the weekend that leave me too tired to function much less blog. Thank you all! I could not have not done this without you! Also I cant forget the one thing that is the plague to most bloggers. Lack of natural sunlight! Haha! Y'all know what I mean ;)

So here I am with a Thrift Share Monday on a Tuesday again. Better late than never right? I finally got a few pieces of Pyrex! There has been a drought for me in the Pyrex department. Lots of overpriced pieces at estate sales but none in my price range. Until the garage sale fairy threw some Pyrex dust my way!

Dont you love it when you get a color theme!? Each of these were bought the same day at three different garage sales. $2. $2.50 and $1. And I got my first carrier! I can't wait to use it at the next family pot luck :)

I just love the design on these milk glass canisters. While doing a little research I found out they were promotional items from Maxwell House coffee in the 50's - 60's. Anchor Hocking also made promo items for Maxwell House in the 60's also. These canisters are not marked, but I wonder if they could be Anchor glass? Hummm... Ok, moving on!

This garage sale was awesome. The woman was a total vintage pack rat! I got this fun little vintage Igloo cooler for $2. It has a cute spout so I dont even need a glass! Just lift it up and... gulp, gulp! After I wash it of course ;) My guess is that it will hold about 5 margaritas. Good enough for me!

And now to make some ice to go in my lil Igloo! This cute pink and silver aluminum ice cube tray was $1. I think I might give it a try and see how it works. I can see my hand fusing to the aluminum. Betcha it happens!

I bought my first pieces of Melmac at the same garage sale. I love the white and turquoise mugs but there seems to be some crud that wont come off one. Any tips for crud cleaning Melmac? The mugs were .75 cents and the orange set was $3.

I could just die this Christmas star is soooo cute. This is definitely a keeper. Only 2 bucks folks! I kept all my vintage Christmas finds from last year. They were too cool to sell ;)

What I need to sell are some of these jars. I have come to the conclusion that, yes, you can have too many of these. But I love them! I can't help but pick them up. Especially when they were only $1 each. Isnt that Acme logo the coolest?

Next up (yes, from the same sale!) are these never been used Woodenware by Weavewood "sizzle plates". Solid walnut wooden bases with heavy cast iron (?) plates. Even includes the serving platter! I bought this set in a second for $6. Sure enough my research on eBay showed 2 plates of the same style, used, sold for $22.99. These would be great to use at a retro vintage BBQ!

I almost tackled an old lady to get at this sweeeeet Cosco step stool / chair. How much? Wait for it...... NINE dollars! For serious. It is (so far) my most loved find of the month. *sigh* So pretty. I will have to do a kitchen update soon cause the touches of yellow in there are looking great :)

I'm always on the look out for things I think Anthony would like. In addition to collecting Lone Star beer stuff Anthony also collects Houston Oilers stuff. I surprised him with this set of 4 insulated mugs. A little steep for me at $3 a piece, but I just had to get them for him. He totally loved them :)

This Fire King Snoopy mug was $3. Can you believe some crazy person on Etsy is trying to sell one for $600?! Really. This exact same one sold just last week on eBay for $24.95. I might have to take my chances there.

Speaking of taking chances, I bought some books. I think Selena from Apron Thrift Girl is rubbing of on me. She is an expert book reseller and has shown there can be big money in books. But yes, she is much more experienced than I. If she looked at these books she would probably turn her nose! Haha! It's ok. Gotta learn and start somewhere, right?

Valentines Day Marx Dollhouse

I am finally getting around to showing you my Valentines present! Weee! Anthony bought me this adorable tin lithographed Marx colonial dollhouse.

It's pink!! I totally love it. I love looking into the windows like I'm a peeping-tom. Hehe!

This house was made in 1964 and sold for $4.99. This house originally came with an extra wing on the side that included a laundry room and a rec room. Mine doesn't have that, but I'm sure it will turn up on eBay at some point :)

The furniture is all moulded, monochromatic, hollow but detailed plastic. The idea was kids just set up the house and used their imagination playing. Not so much that they would want to decorate it.

There were six styles of furniture made for the Marx houses. I have the traditional furniture which I find kind of...eh. I like the more contemporary furniture pieces which have more color variations within the pieces.

I just bought this living room set off eBay yesterday. Much better don't you think? And it comes with a lamp! Researching dollhouse furniture scale was quite a learning experience. This furniture is 1:24 scale or 1/2" where 1 foot is 1/2".

Here is a peek at the whole inside for ya. Nursery on the left and bathroom in the middle. Aaaaand now I am officially obsessed. How obsessed you may ask....?

So obsessed that I bought this bad boy off Craigslist a few weeks ago!! According to a few of the vintage Marx dollhouse collector blogs this house is totally rare.

It is also the colonial style but this one has has a working door. The house is pretty much complete, it has the dormer windows, the chimney, has a breezeway extension with a rec room and the other side has the laundry room and office. I even have the front porch, but it is missing a side rail.

It came with a bunch of the traditional furniture and a few extras. Aaagh! It is sooo huge it pretty much takes up the whole top of my Expedit shelf! I think I want just one more house.

The super awesome split level! Just one more and then I'll stop. Really... hehe! Thank you sweetie for giving me a new obsession! Now I can decorate my dollhouses faster than I can decorate my own house. And it will be cheaper! Um, yeah, maybe just a little cheaper!

The best website I found for researching is BarbiGirl.Com. All the different styles and makers of tin lithograph dollhouses are right there. And for furniture eBay is the place. Sue Bee's Miniatures is where I find the best complete sets.

Salavating Over French Onion Salisbury Steak

Oh how I love Salisbury steak! When I was in High School I use to eat the Banquet frozen ones over a crispy piece of toast. Haha! Yes, I know, but they were soooo delicious to me then ;)

It's a vintage box. I'm not that old!

I gathered up the ingredients for a more non-frozen version. Whipped out my cast iron skillet. Propped open my Cuisine At Home magazine and started on their French Onion Salisbury Steak recipe. Here are the deets:

French Onion Salisbury Steak:
1 1/4 lb. ground chuck
1/4 c fresh minced parsley
2 tbsp minced scallion
2 c sliced onions
1 tsp sugar
1 tbsp minced garlic
1 tbsp tomato paste
2 c beef broth
1/4 c dry red wine
1/2 tsp dried thyme leaves
4 tsp fresh minced parsley
4 tsp Parmesan cheese
Salt and Pepper
Flour

Here's How the Magic Happens:
Combine chuck, parsley, scallion, salt and pepper. Divide into 4 patties. Place a bit of flour in a shallow dish; dredge each patty in flour. Heat a lil oil in pan over medium-high heat. Add patties and saute until browned on each side. Remove from pan and add in those onions and sugar; saute 5 min. Stir in garlic and tomato paste; saute until paste begins to brown. Sprinkle onions with flour; cook 1 minute. Stir in broth and wine, then add the salt and thyme. (Hey, that rhymes!) Return meat to pan and bring sauce to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-low, cover and simmer 20 minutes.

I served these bad boys over a thick piece of garlic bread with mozzarella. Yummy! It was really quick to make too.

Like my veggie to meat ratio?! Hehe! I sent the above photo to my mom and sister. They both thought I was at some fancy restaurant! It sure tasted like I was ;)

Man, I have been MIA here haven't I? It all started when I left my camera at my parents house after a weekend of pickin'. What blogger can live without their camera? One who has an iPhone, that's who. So I snapped an artsy-fartsy picture of the Simon game I scored.

It looks as though it has never been played with. Not a scratch on it. My luck that two of the bulbs are burned out. Boo! I'll get around to fixing that next month sometime, haha! Now that I have my camera back..

Super awesome, gigantic, cutesy poo baby animal cards anyone? These cards are around 8" X 10" and would look adorable framed. I got them for a super great price too. So super that when I checked out the Queen B of the estate sale asked "Who priced these?!" all loud and annoyed. When no one fessed up she explained to me "I hope you know you are getting a really good deal." PSHAW!

This children's book of bedtime stories was also in the mix. The illustrations are too cute.

The sales around here have been pretty lame lately. I don't know whats up with the "one day only Saturday sales" either. Of course they are always hours away from where I live too. I may be a reseller but I'm not that hardcore!

Hello my peeps! First I wanted to share with you the best Etsy treasury ever created.

Besides all the great items, including my light bulb salt and pepper shakers, she made each item relate to the item before it. So clever and cute! I attempted to make a treasury last night and, wow, it's hard! So many great things to choose from. I'll have to sit down Sunday and really focus on making one.

I have no idea who those people are. I just thought it was funny how they are posing with their A/C like it's part of the family! I'm sure that's how we will feel once its installed. No more window units!

Our Kitchen December - 2010

We had one window unit in the kitchen, one in the living room, and one in our bedroom. Yeah, and our electric bill... sucked! We're getting the whole shabang. New unit, new ducts, new return air location and new vents.

We also have some issues that we need to deal with on our own like....

Mice in the attic.

or Raccoons in the attic.

Yeah, there's some sort of critter up there. We have to repair a hole in the eve of the roof where they have been entering. Then we have to install new insulation depending on how bad they destroyed it. I have a feeling it's not going to be pretty.

Easy Chicken Gyros

I feel like I smell like onions today.

I made delicious chicken gyros last night and chopped the heck out of some onions. But I think I can still smell them on my hands. Or under my fingernails. UGH!

Got this recipe from my friend, Logan, (HI!) who loves to cook. And he got it from my now new favorite cooking blog, The Food in my Beard. He's really funny, his recipes are unique and easy and he has great pictures. I really want to try the Indian Smokehouse Burger next. Ok, and now I present to you....

Chicken Gyros!

Cook up some chicken with S and P and cube it up.

While that is cooking get your accessories together.

* Chopped tomato (de-seeded) and onion (stinky) tossed with S and P.
* Olive mix made with kalamata olives, chopped garlic and minced parsley.
* Crumbled feta.
* Tzatziki sauce made with a little container of plain Greek yogurt, chopped garlic, minced parsley, one chopped (de-seeded) cucumber, and S and P. Stir that goodness all up.

So yeah, your chicken should be done now and that's pretty much it! Easy right?

Instead of making a sandwich I piled all the stuff on the plate and we scooped it up with pieces of torn pita bread. Another reason why my hands smell like onion and ...sniff... garlic. Hahaha! I hear that washing hands with coffee grinds gets rid of onion/garlic smells. Might have to give that one a try :)

Hey everyone! Hope the weekend treated you good :) I'm trying to get over a head cold thing that Anthony gave me :/ My nose is all closed up! I'm trying not to get addicted to nose spray but dang that stuff works!

I took Anthony to his first estate sale on Friday. The ad said it was a total "man sale" but, eh, not that great. I think he liked it. He thought it was weird rummaging around in someones house and personal belongings who was no longer alive. I agree that sometimes I feel a little sad but I'm glad to help the family out. Though he didn't get anything for himself, he did help me pick out some cool healthy books.

And I grabbed these Vera napkins for my Etsy shop.

Friday night I found an ad on Craigslist titled "Various Vintage Items" and the person lived just 15 minutes away from me! Weeelllll... Turns out she is an avid collector of vintage and had boo-koos of vintage stuff listed for practically nothing!

Saturday morning I walked into her house and it was like a vintage time bomb went off inside! Tacky awesome velvet paintings. About 10 starburst wall clocks. 8ish mid century chandeliers. All for sale and then some. OMG. This mid century modern table lamp is amazing. I have nowhere to put it right now, but who cares! I'll leave it right there on my lucite table!

She was in the process of moving in and decided that it was a good time to purge. She said she can't help but buy everything she sees and needs to get rid of her extra stuff. I told her I buy everything I see too! I was a little over excited, she was like, meh. I was like, let's be best friends! She was like, yawn. No, I really didn't say that but was thinking it. Hehe.

And do you spy something new in the reflection? It's the bamboo coffee table I got last weekend :) It needs some help. I'm sure I'll get around to it next... week? ...month? Eh, at some point I'll get to it!

Mexican Crock Pot Chicken

I cranked my crock pot up this past Sunday so I could get some stuff posted to my Etsy shop in peace. Crock pots are so awesome! I got lots of work done without worrying about cooking dinner which is a great feeling. I went online to my bookmarks and picked out a yummy recipe from Jonalynn over at Turn Up The Rad for Mexican Crock Pot Chicken. It turned out fantastic! Thanks, Jonalynn!

1 can black beans
1 can chili beans
1 Package Taco Seasoning
1 small can black olives
1 small can chopped green chile's

I added:
Cumin
Garlic
2 bay leafs
Sliced jalapenos
Few spoonfuls of fresh HOT salsa that Anthony made
Handful of mushrooms (We love mushrooms in everything!)

How To Make It Work:
Layer chicken in bottom of crock pot. Add the rest of the ingredients in the order written. Do not drain the tomatoes or the beans. (I drained one can of beans and added half a cup of chicken broth) Do not stir it up either. Cook on low 7-8 hours. (I cooked high for 1 hour and low for 5) Take out chicken and shred. Return chicken to crock pot and stir.

This was so, so yummy. My chicken was so tender it just shredded in the pot. We made tacos with sour cream and avocado. This would be great as nachos! Defiantly a keeper. You should give it a try!

I know y'all are dying for me to get to the point so here he is.

Much better in person! Just a few light surface scratches here and there. It's the Bernhardt brand of campaign furniture and it's very well made. The pulls do not seem to be brass, which is ok. I'm sure I can Google how to give them a cleaning whatever they may be. Painting is on hold for right now. I don't even have the guest room itself painted and that's on my list before the dresser.

I got another great item over the weekend. A while back my friend Valerie, from Vonlipi's Favorites, emailed me that she was mailing me a surprise. (I love surprises!) Well here it is!!

I had commented on her blog that I loved the vintage squeezy dispensers she found while thrifting and she found some more and thought of me :) Thank you, Valerie, I love them! If you don't follow Valerie you totally should. She lives in a house of Pyrex :)

Speaking of houses built of vintage goodness. I went to an estate sale Saturday that was built with salt and pepper shakers.

Yeah, and that was just one corner of the kitchen. They were everywhere!! And if you can believe it I only bought one set.

My sister mentioned that she saw some like this on Sir Thrift's A Lot's blog and sure enough, he has some too! Mostly all of the shakers were souvenirs and I just don't know how well those do. I didn't want to take a loss ya know. Better safe that have unsellable inventory.

I also picked up this church cookbook. I love church cookbooks. I'll have to make a few of the goodies in this one for sure.

My final find was this funny toilet seat cover. (Calm down, It was still in the package, not used.)

Too funny to pass up. I just love campy stuff like this! I say it was a great weekend for vintage all around. I listed 6 new items in my Etsy shop over the weekend and sold two items! One was one I had just listed too. Love when that happens :)
