How to file and submit an Income Tax Return

Here below we are described, you'll need to have the following items at hand for filing your Income Tax Return. This might vary on a case by case basis.

PAN number
Form-16 issued by your employer
Bank statements / passbook for Interest Income on bank deposits.
Statements of Interest Income besides Bank deposits
TDS certificates issued to you by your bank and others
Form 26AS - The Income Tax department of the Indian government shows you the tax credit you have received for Tax deducted at source. This typically should match all your TDS certificates. Link to Indian Government site to view Form 26AS
Section 80C investment statements. Investments done under LIC, NSC, PPF qualify for Section 80C deductions.
Charitable donation statements. Donations that can be claimed for tax deductions under Section 80G. Typically the receipt issued by the institute you donate to mentions the eligibility under Section 80G.
Interest paid on housing loan. Interest on housing loan is eligible for tax saving upto Rs 1,50,000. This is for a self-occupied house.

The following documents may also be needed for income tax return filing

Stock trading statement. The stock trades that were made during the year may be taxed under Capital Gain.
Section80CCF investments. Upto Rs. 20,000 can be claimed as tax deduction under this section
Education loan interest payments.

Guide to printing and sending ITR-V to CPC - Bangalore
It's short guideline will also be useful for perfectly print your ITR-V and after that How and where submit it :

After receiving your ITR-V (acknowledgement), you have to send it to CPC, Bangalore within 120 days of e-filing your Income Tax return.
ITR-V is a one page document, which you need to sign in BLUE INK and send via ordinary post or speed post. You cannot courier the ITR-V.
You do NOT need to send any supporting documents along with the ITR-V. Just the one page signed ITR-V.
We strongly recommend that you send your ITR-V at the earliest for your tax refund processing. Don't forget, ok?

Please use Ink Jet /Laser printer to print the ITR-V Form.
Avoid printing on Dot Matrix printer.
The ITR-V Form should be printed only in black ink.
Do not use any other ink option to print ITR V.
Ensure that print out is clear and not light print/faded copy.
Please do not print any water marks on ITR-V. The only permissible watermark is that of "Income tax Department" which is printed automatically on each ITR-V.
The document that is mailed to CPC should be signed in original in BLUE INK.
Photocopy of signatures will not be accepted.
The signatures or any handwritten text should not be written on Bar code.
Bar code and numbers below barcode should be clearly visible.
Only A4 size white paper should be used.
Avoid typing anything at the back of the paper.
Perforated paper or any other size paper should be avoided.
Do not use stapler on ITR V acknowledgement.
In case you are submitting original and revised returns, do not print them back to back. Use two separate papers for printing ITR-Vs separately.
More than one ITR-V can be sent in the same envelope.
Please do not submit any annexures, covering letter, pre stamped envelopes etc. along with ITR-V.
The ITR-V form is required to be sent to Post Bag No.1, Electronic City Post Office, Bengaluru, Karnataka-560100, by ordinary post or speedpost.
ITR-Vs that do not conform to the above specifications may get rejected or acknowledgement of receipt may get delayed.

You can learn tally in three different ways.

First : you learn tally from a private teacher who knows tally,
Second : at your own home through books and helping material from net or any other source and
Third : from an institute who is capable of teaching you tally.

Difference between above ways :

In the first way the price can be the charge you pay plus damage done to you due to lack of knowledge of your tutor.
In second case the price can be less in terms of money but can be more in terms of time spent in learning it at your own.
In third case price can be the institute fee you have paid and extent of knowledge you have gained or time saved in learning.

The best way too learn is to learn it from some competent institute, preferably from Tally Academy as the price paid , the extent of knowledge you get and time you spend has perfect balance.

The second option is not bad if you are ready to pay the price in terms of your time. Yes, you can learn tally from home. For that you have to become a keen learner. Lets see how you can learn tally from home.

Arrange for study material :

Before learning Tally first arrange all study material. The best books can be TFAP books which can be bought from any TallyAcademy. They are best because they are about the latest versions and have full features explained with practical examples.There are good amount of exercises are also in it. Except it there are certain other books available in the market specially on Tally.

Arrange for Software :

First of all we have to which software version you want to learn. At this point of time version 7.2 is most appropriate. The books too covers this version. So arrange Tally 7.2 educational version with latest release and with stat files and Help file. The stat files are necessary as these would be necessary for statutory reports like VAT, service tax etc. It may happen that while learning it from books you stuck some where. Or this is also very much possible that what ever you are looking on books is not coming in actual tally. At this point just press help and context sensitive help would come. Study the concept and syntax from there and proceed.

One more difficulty you would face is that as you are using educational version then you would not be able to enter the transactions on actual dates as educational software would only take 1, 2 and 31 of each month. In this situation you have to enter the dates of your vouchers only in 1,2 and 31 date. Believe me you would be able to see all effects except the few like interest calculation, forex gain etc where you would find some difference but it would do.

How to Export Balance Sheet in PDF or JPEG Format

The Export functionality available in Tally.ERP 9 allows the user to export data or report in any one of the standard available formats. Tally.ERP 9 allows the user to select the required format before exporting the data and based on the format selected the user needs to specify the resolution, page size and formatting.

Tally.ERP 9 also allows you to export the data in non-editable formats such as JPEG and PDF formats. The JPEG format has the with dual facility, where the user can store the file in printable format or as an image.

Export in PDF (Portable Document Format)

The report is converted to a portable data format document which is independent of the application software, hardware and operating system. This document can be viewed using the Adobe Acrobat Reader commonly known as the PDF Reader. On exporting the data using PDF format, the file is stored in the specified location and assigned the extension .pdf. While configuring the system to export data to PDF it is necessary for the user to specify the paper orientation and paper size. On opting to store the report with User defined or customised paper dimensions, the user is required to specify the page width and height in millimeters. This PDF file can be mailed as an attachment to the desired recipient and viewed using the Adobe Acrobat reader or PDF reader.

How to Create a Payment Voucher Entry with Class

Select Accounting voucher from Gateway of Tally.

Press F5: Payment.

You have to select a class or Not Applicable, if no class is desired for this entry.

If Cost Centre Class has been set, it can also be selected.

The entry will be made as follows:

The Voucher Class is Cash Payment. Once the voucher class is selected, the Cash Ledger is automatically selected and you need to select only the Ledgers which are to be debited. Please note that the entry is not done in the regular Dr/Cr format. Data entry in Tally.ERP 9 is very rapid. This feature makes it much more faster!

How to describe Voucher Classes

Voucher Classes are used to automate Accounting Allocations in transactions. It is a table for predefining the entries to make Invoice entry a simple task. This is particularly useful in sales invoicing where the nominal ledger accounts, to be credited for each item of sale is defined once.

During voucher entry, the accounting credits for items sold are done automatically. Additional accounting entries like, tax, freight, and other charges can be predefined to be carried out untouched during actual invoicing.

Voucher Classes are available for all major voucher types like:

Contra
Payment
Receipt

Credit Note

How to Print a receipt voucher as formal receipt

Suppose the company receives a payment from a customer against a particular invoice and a Formal Receipt has to be issued acknowledging receipt of the same.

To activate this facility:

Go to Gateway of Tally > Accounts Info > Voucher Types > Alter

Select the Voucher Type Receipt.
Set the option Print Formal Receipt after saving to Yes.

Click Accept to save.

The printed Formal Receipt is shown as below after making the Receipt Entry:

Note : An additional field Name on Receipt appears in the Receipt Voucher screen. The receipt will be printed either with the Ledger Name or the name given in the Name on Receipt field.

To print the Receipt voucher,

Go to Gateway of Tally > Accounts Info > Voucher Types > Alter

Select the Voucher Type Receipt.
Set the option Print after saving voucher to Yes.
Enter a receipt voucher and Tally.ERP 9 prompts to print the Formal Receipt (to be issued) and then the Receipt Voucher (for the company's records).
In F12:

The Receipt voucher for the same information is printed as shown:

Note : The information required can be configured under F12: Configure after giving the Print Command.

How to create a Payment Entry with Narration for each Entry

If you want the narration details for every ledger you debit or credit (Single narration), you can configure Tally.ERP's Narration details accordingly.

To activate the option Narration for each entry,

Go to Gateway of Tally > Accounts Information > Voucher Types > Alter

Select the required Voucher Type.
Enable the option Narrations for each Entry and accept the details.
Return to Accounting Vouchers in Gateway of Tally and select the voucher type and pass the entry.

Narration for each entry option is available for all Accounting Voucher Types. Given below is an example of a Payment transaction with narrations for each entry enabled:

The above entry consists of both common narration and narrations for each entry. In case of multiple debit/credit entries, you can give single line narration separately for every ledger account selected.

Special Keys for Voucher Narration Field

ALT+R: Recalls the Last narration saved for the first ledger in the voucher, irrespective of the voucher type.
CTRL+R: Recalls the Last narration saved for a specific voucher type, irrespective of the ledger.

How to re-numbered voucher or invoice in tally

Some times there is need to re-numbering the Voucher number's or invoice number's in Tally. The question arises whether there is any way to rearrange voucher numbers, invoice numbers in tally? If you are in the middle of the financial year and want to re-arrange invoice number for some reasons like adding suffix to invoice number, need of a new starting number etc.

In normal cases some people use voucher number s restarting every month, ie, every month starts with a fresh invoice number or voucher number. Some uses the continuation of same number until the end of a financial year. Generally speaking nobody changes the invoice number in the middle of a financial year. However if you require re-arranging of voucher numbers for some reasons you can do it with the following methods.

Let’s change the voucher numbers of the following sales vouchers.

As in the above invoice number starts with 1, we can change the starting number with 1001 with a suffix and prefix ABC/1000/2011-12

So our invoice number should be like this

ABC/1001/2011-12
ABC/1002/2011-12
ABC/1003/2011-12
ABC/1004/2011-12
ABC/1005/2011-12
ABC/1006/2011-12

Go to Gateway of tally » Accounts info »Voucher types »Alter

Select the sales voucher and set “Use Advance Configuration” as “Yes”

Restart numbering
Applicable from = 1.4.2011
Starting number =1001
Particulars = yearly if you want to restart voucher number monthly you can select likewise.
Prefix Details

Sufix Details
Applicable from = 1.4.2011
Particulars = /2011-12

Now save the entire screen.

This will do in Tally ERP9 Series, but older version does not change automatically. You need rewrite tally data to see the effect of the change you made.

How to rewrite tally data
Before rewriting data you must back up tally data
1. Go to gateway of tally then press Alt+Ctrl+R at a time.
2. Now select the company that you changed the voucher number

3. Press Yes to “Rewrite”

After completion of rewrite, you can see all the voucher numbers will have changed

How to install and use Recycle bin in Tally

Recycle bin is a FREE add-on utility for Tally Software. Recycle bin allows you to retrieve records that you may have accidentally deleted in Tally Accounting Software. It is similar to Windows Recycle-bin which allows you to recover the deleted files. Recycle bin works with Tally ERP 9, Tally 9 and Tally 7.2. To use the Recycle bin utility, you need to make certain changes in your Tally.ini file which are given underneath.

And if you are familiar with TDL, you can go through the source-code also.

Download the Recycle bin for Tally TCP files (zip)
Copy the file according to your Tally version. i.e.
If you are using Tally ERP 9, then copy rbin9-erp.tcp into the Tally folder or;
If you are using Tally 9, then copy rbin9v.tcp into the Tally folder or;
If you are using Tally 7.2, then copy rbin.tcp into your Tally folder

Open Tally.ini file and make the changes as shown below :-
