On January 20th 2012 - The crew from 5 Pointz held their yearly benefit at Hells Gate Social in Astoria, Queens.

It was a night filled with talented hip-hop artists supporting NYC's graffiti mecca 5pointz...

When I wasn't busy filming I saw some dope performances by JDL from Cold Crush Brothers, HomeboySandman, Brain Space (Grey Matter + BS), Rabbi Darkside,
DJ Milk Money, Double AB, Vast Aire, Illimanjaro, One West, and DJ Sambarella

And there were a few art pieces by legendary graffiti artists
MeresOne, Zimad and Cortesnyc that were raffled.

Here's the video I put together from the footage I shot that night.

Shit Graffiti Writers Say - Video

Back in December of 2011 writers/creators Kyle Humphrey & Graydon Sheppard released a video titled Shit Girls Say.

Shit Girls Say features creator Graydon dressing up in drag. This video is a visual interpretation to the twitter stream the two guys created which is also called @ShitGirlsSay. This twitter page consists of random 'girl talk' statements such as "i just love tiny things" or "you look like you need a hug."

With-in a month their video went viral, giving them millions of views but most importantly it has started an internet revolution.

A few average YouTube users saw this concept of having a guy dress up in drag and make fun of girls and ran with it. Everyone who is on the Internet has seen at least one of these "Shit X & Y Say" videos.

Now that this is an official meme, there's "Shit Black Girls Say", "Shit Spanish Girls Say", "Shit Asian Girls Say" and so many others. Shortly after females started dressing up like guys and coming out with videos such as "Shit That Douche bags Say" and "Shit Black Guys Say" and the list goes on for days.

Now that people have basically covered every race and every type of guy/girl there is, video creators moved on to "types of people" and my favorite one so far in this category is "Shit New Yorkers Say." Every time I've watched that video I end up laughing and thinking of how many times I've cursed at a train or yelled at a tourist for being in my way.

So the other day, I was talking with my producer; Cortes and I said an off-the-cuff comment and he jokingly said you should make a "Shit Tameeka Says" video and then we laughed it off and kept on working.

The very next day while I was at work it crossed my mind to search "Shit Graffiti Writers Say" and my video search had no match. That's when I instantly sent Cortes a message about the idea and from then on he reached out to our friend MeresOne (the curator at 5 Pointz in LIC) and we scheduled a meeting, a shoot (which was this past Saturday) and we got a few guys together and recorded. Last night (Sunday) I broke night editing the video together with the help of Cortes' graphics, color treatment and audio clean up.

If you know anything about me, you know that Graffiti and 5 pointz have been an important part of my life and I have so much respect for graff artists and I thank them for all of the good times and for always letting me document them.

With that said, here's "Shit Graffiti Writers Say".

Even if you're not a graffiti writer or know certain things about graffiti it's still something everyone can enjoy. I had such a great time putting this video together. I hope you enjoy!

The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly - Good Bye 2011 - Part 3

Here's part 3 of my year in review.

September 2011 -

In late August / Early September I took my last trip of the year. I flew down to Ft. Lauderdale to film a graffiti event. It was my first time in Ft. Lauderdale, I had such a great time, I even made it down to South Beach during my trip. I made new friends and got to see some old ones. The only bad part of the trip was returning home to New York, during a hurricane. Yes a hurricane hit parts of NY and NJ. It took a day of traveling for me to return home. All in all I will definitely return to Ft. Lauderdale, hopefully next year.

September is the month I stopped getting acrylic tips put onto my nails, I discovered the magic of UV Gel manicures. Since then I've been able to experiment with funky colors and designs and still manage to keep my nails looking good for up to 2 weeks.

This month was also a huge month for fashion. I attend a few events/parties for Fashions Night Out. My favorite part of that night was being introduced to the Temptu Airbrush makeup machine. It was wonderful and I want one!

October 2011 -

October was a super busy month for me, unfortunately, I did not do much blogging. Shame on me but I did recap some awesome desert spots that I went to during the summer.

November 2011 -

November is a very special month for me! It's my birthday month and I always make sure to have a grand ole' time during my birthday month :)
This year was no different. I partied my lil butt off this month and I cooked a great thanksgiving meal. Next year I'll post pics and recipes to my blog. November was a great month and I was glad to have spent it with friends and family.

December 2011 -

December has been good to me. I have probably hung out with friends this month more than I did in the summer. This month, I've been introduced to new bars in new lil areas of Queens. I had a very quiet Christmas and I'm expecting a great New Years. Blog-wise I've finished up a few art videos and I'm currently working on a few more. My leopard laced nails were featured on a tumblr page and I've finished watching most of the TV series that I love and looking forward to blogging more in 2012.

The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly - Good Bye 2011 - Part 2

Here's part 2 of my year in review.

May 2011 -

In May, I booked my tickets to return to the beautiful island of Nassau Bahamas. I watched a lot of soccer, and got a few personal video projects done that month despite the claim of "The Rapture."

June 2011 -

June was another great month! Traveling is always a good thing. I returned to the Bahamas with one of my best friends. We had a blast! This time around we partied at one of the hottest night clubs on the island and learned some history about the Bahamas. I had no problems flying, I've only had good experiences flying via Jet Blue.

In June, I was on my first speaking panel. I attended a food bloggers conference called Tech Munch. It was a 1 day conference for food bloggers and food lovers. My panel was titled; Tips on Creating and Distributing Mouthwatering Multimedia Content. I had a great time and I'm very grateful for the opportunity.

This month I also helped with putting together one of Europe Graffiti Tour videos of artist CortesNyc, it was our first long form video.

July 2011 -

In July, I helped out again with the 2nd part of the long form project of CortesNyc's Europe Graffiti Tour. Along with other graffiti videos. I also completed a short documentary based on another one of my favorite artsists; Paige Pumphrey. It was amazing how much footage I accumulated of Paige in a year. It was a fun project and I'm so happy she enjoyed it! I also took it upon myself to start another blog challenge this month, this one was titled; 30 day blog challenge. And during this month my blog turned 3 years old :)

August 2011 -

As the summer started to fade, I continued my 30 day blog challenge, along with putting out two vlogs all about me! I also completed my final Jersey Shore Vlog Recap video. I finally purchased a Nook... my first nook book was the 3rd part of The Hunger Games Trilogy; Mockingjay. It's a great summer read! Ohh.. I also purchased a brand new apple/mac laptop. My first apple laptop, in the past I've only used desktop computers.

2011 was a great year. So many things happened. It's wild just sitting back and thinking about it.

I'm going to break down month to month what went on in my lil Tameeka Time life for this year. This blog post will be broken up into a 3 part series.

January 2011 -

In January I started a vlog series based on recapping Jersey Shore's season 3 - this was huge was for me, the videos have so many hits on youtube, it was also a lot of work for myself and my producer (CortesNyc). We set up a green screen in the studio, we would watch the episodes when they aired on Thursday nights, write my recaps, record the recap video on the weekend, I'd edit, he'd work on the graphics and original music, we did it for months. It was a good experience, I got a lot of reaction from friends and family members. I will do another vlog series in the future. It may not be a weekly series but I can definitely see my team doing a monthly video series.

February 2011 -

In February, I continued to work on my Jersey Shore Recap Vlogs and the big deal at the time was that I purchased a badge to attend South by South West. I was really excited! For years I've heard many great stories of Texas fun. More on SXSW to come later. Also in February, my blog series Sleepy Monday's was featured on a site called Poopt.

March 2011 -

My March was all about going to Austin, Texas / SXSW. This was my first time going to South by South West. For those of you who do not know what SXSW is, it's a 10 day conference, filled with film festivals, music shows and interactive meet ups organized by days. The majority of my blog posts are about the trip or pictures of what I ate, or the events I attended in Texas. Austin's a great city and I had the time of my life. I really recommend everyone experiencing what's it's like to party all day and all night. The lesson I did learn is to drink lots of red bull and coffee, book hotels and flights a head of time and make sure you are aware of all the parties going on in town. I also had an extra special surprise while I was there, one of my oldest and dearest friends came to visit me, she was living in Houston at the time and she managed to spend a day with me. I was so grateful to be around so many wonderful people. My only complaint is South West Airline, the staff was not helpful at all, I had 2 layovers and their seating policy sucks so bad. I prefer assigned seats, the flights were safe but so uncomfortable. But I must say March was a great month!

April 2011 -

Blog-wise I started doing a photo series called "Photo of the Day". It was a great project for me, because it gave me an excuse to post everyday. After SXSW I had to give myself time to recover and this was the perfect way to do so. Also, in April the weather started to warm up here in NY so I started to spend a lot of time grabbing drinks with friends after work and hitting the gym (two opposites I know). I also was able to spend some time with some special people in April because of the annual Keith and The Girl week.

Muse is a once a month showcase featuring dance, art, music, spoken word, film, and everything in between.

Here's the latest video I worked, it features an amazing artist by the name of CortesNyc.
In 2010, graffiti Artist CortesNyc attended an event at 5 Pointz in NYC called the international Meeting of Styles.

It was an honor to see so many graffiti writers painting all at once.

Tameeka Time on Burgers and Nails

For a few months I've been following a tumblr blog called "Burgers and Nails."
I love nail art and I love painting my nails.
I've been painting my nails for years, it started back when I was in junior high school (so I was about 10 or 11 years old).
I just think every woman should have their nails manicured or decorated.

Anyways...

Like I mentioned earlier, I started following Burgers and Nails and last month I decided to submit a picture of my birthday nail look (while eating at Pop Burger)
So this morning while I was going through my google reader I saw my nails!

I was at Best Buy earlier today and came across a flat iron. Yes a flat iron.

The photo above displays a flat iron with the cast members from the movie Twilight on the packaging!

Whyyyyyyyy ..... whyyyyyyy would anyone want to purchase this!?! This product is claiming to have been used on the set of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn!!

C'mon people!! Why are we selling this in Best Buy? I would expect to see this in Target!

By the way, this would make a horrible Christmas gift!

I would rather purchase a hair care product from a no named hair stylist or even one of the chicks from America's Next Top Model.

Would you buy this!?!? or would you buy a Justin Bieber Toothbrush!?!?

This afternoon I was in Duane Reade buying a new tooth brush and on the very top shelf I noticed an electronic toothbrush with someones picture on package. I did a double take because I couldn't believe what I was seeing, there was a Justin Bieber singing toothbrush.

Now, I am no one to judge. Back in my teen years I was super obsessed with a number of celebrities like the Spice Girls, Nsync, The Rock and basketball player John Starks. My bedroom wall was filled with posters, stickers, and I had tons of cds, vhs tapes/dvds, scrapbooks, bobble-heads and other fan memorabilia but I have NEVER seen or heard of a singing toothbrush.

If I was a teen/tween I probably would want this toothbrush but wouldn't it be a bit annoying?
How many times could someone listen to the song "Baby"?
Shouldn't the process of brushing ones teeth be an uninterrupted ritual?

What's the craziest fan product you've come in contact with?
Did you own the product as well?

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!

I am thankful for all of the Tameeka Time readers and supporters out there.

Thank you for reading my posts, tweeting with me, watching my videos, and commenting on my facebook page.

I appreciate you all.

I am also thankful for my family, my friends, the roof over my head, food on my table every night, and the fact that I have a job.

I am most thankful for my freedom and not to mention that I am thankful to be surrounded by so many creative people for the past 4 years. I have a chance to express myself through video and it's truly a blessing.

For those of you New Yorkers and for those who were on facebook yesterday you may have witnessed what was being called "Snowtober 2011".

The general public was up-in-arms because Halloween hasn't even arrived and there was a wintery mess outdoors. Three lives were taken and many people are still without power.

But today's a new day and it's actually quite sunny out but it's still bone chilling cold out.

This cold weather got me thinking about how much fun I had this past summer and how much I miss the summer heat. I am not a cold-weather lover. I like it hot. And when it's hot out, I'm always ready for ice cream, or gelato. I'm not saying that I can not enjoy a big ole' cup of gelato in the middle of winter, but it's such a good feeling to sit outside and enjoy a nice cold treat.

Speaking of cold goodness, this past summer, I had the pleasure of visiting three places (for the first time) that filled my belly with delicious frozen heaven.

Location #1 - Pop Bar.

Pop Bar is located on Carmine street in NYC. A friend told me this place had gelato on sticks. I was very iffy of what I would be getting into but since that one day in August. I was hooked. I've had a gelato pop, sorbetto pop, and a yogurt pop. It's like heaven on a stick and the toppings are to die for. The next time I'm there I do want to try the "hot chocolate on a stick". You can't go wrong with Pop Bar, they're pops are gluten free and they're also kosher certified.

The best part is having the ability to personalize your own bar, they have signature dips (white, dark, and milk chocolate) and toppings such as granola, almonds, and hazelnuts. There are more toppings to choose from but those three are my favorite. Be sure to follow Pop Bar on twitter @popbar for all the new flavor combination updates.

Here's a pic of Pop Bar and my favorite flavor of them all, the mixed berry popsorbetto! The berry seeds add a nice touch!

Location #2 - The Big Gay Ice Cream Truck

I know I called the Big Gay Ice Cream Truck a location and technically it is (now)!

In the picture below I waited on line to get ice cream. (you must think I'm insane) and I know that truck looks like a plain ole' ice cream truck but it isn't! I promise!

This truck is the Big Gay Ice Cream truck and when this photo was taken in July the only way to get a salty pimp was from the truck.

Now the owner has a shop located on East 7th street in NYC. You have to believe me it's worth the trip.

Speaking of the salty pimp {vanilla ice cream/Dulce de leche/sea salt/chocolate dip} here's a pic of it (see below), it is delicious.

BUT my hearts with the Bea Arthur {vanilla ice cream/Dulce de leche/crushed nilla wafers}. You can see me proudly holding my cone in the picture below :D

Location #3 - Amorino

I knew nothing about Amorino until a friend shared her Living social coupon with me. Amorino is located on University Place in NYC.

I was unaware of how beautiful the sorbet/gelato cones would look until after I ordered my cup of mango and passion fruit sorbet. I have to go back and get one of these bad boys.

The good thing about Amorino is you are allowed to pick up 20 flavors for one cone! I was shocked and pleased all at once. I am not saying that my cup (see below) wasn't the most delish thing I had all day

BUT I have to go back and try some of the various gelato flavors like Stracciatella, Cioccolato Ecuador, Caffe puro Brasile, Pistacchio sublime, Nocciola Tonda e Gentile, Fragola Camarosa, Limone femminello di sorrento, Caramello al Burro, or Amarena.

I will return to Amorino in the near future and if you would like to go some time be sure to check out their website monthly. Because the flavors of the month always seem divine!

I hope everyone enjoyed my summer treat memory post. If there are any sweet treat shops in NYC that I need to try leave a comment. I love trying new places.

I love this song... the first time I heard it - I cried... yes I said it... I cried...

It's her voice... she's amazing... I'd love to see her live.
