"Happy New Year" from me in the USA! How do you say it in your lauguage?

As 2011 ends and 2012 begins, I always reflect back on my life...what was, what is, and where I want to be. Family, friends, bass fishing, filming, editing, cancer, etc. Then I continue on with my plans and goals.

A few months ago, a friend turned me onto a few books and a daily organizer, so far this has been truly a benefit in helping me get organized and achieving goals quicker. It was a missing piece of the puzzle for me. Now I'm not saying I've got it mastered yet, but it certainly has been life altering in a good way. And it couldn't have come at a better time, especially at this time-frame in my life while dealing with the thyroid cancer. Having extremely low energy levels, forgetfulness, low concentration, and more are all workable but they are still factors to take into account while still trying to work.

So for the 1st time in my history, I am starting a new year off with a daily organizer,and if I stay dedicated and focused, I believe it will be an incredible year to come.

This last year, I have received kind words of encouragement and support through some of these tough times from people here in the USA and other countries. It means the world to me to know that there are good people out that truly care and take an interest. Thank you all friends, family, and others!

I am so excited to see what this year will bring to me and others! I wish you all a prosperous, FUN, and a HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Earlier this year, I released the first 6 Fish'n 4 FUN shows. They were released nationally on TUFF TV. (over-the-air antenna). TUFF TV is not in my own town yet so I was unable to see it on TV, but still the response was tremendous as I watched the internet traffic and Google searches to my websites (TamiCurtis.net and TCsportsReport.com) increase immediately following the shows!

Even though I knew it was scheduled to air sometime soon in Havasu, it became surreal when I was visiting Lake Havasu City, AZ and was watching (Suddenlink Cable) TV and the show started playing! The shows that I've spent literally HOURS, DAYS, and NIGHTS filming and editing are now airing there! When in editing mode, I'm continually critiquing every little detail and changing things as necessary. It's rewarding and a very different feeling for me to see it on Television when not in the editing mode! This is sooooo very exciting for me! I am very blessed and thankful for all the good people that helped make this possible this year! THANK YOU!

So if you are one of the THOUSANDS that travel to Lake Havasu City each year, keep an eye out for the show on Sudden Link Cable channel 2 and also over-the-air on TV 45!

I went into the WON Bass Championships tournament at Lake Nacimiento and San Antonio without expectations, but high hopes of winning a Nitro boat and claiming the Overall Angler of the Year title. Neither happened, in fact....I fished so poorly in the tournament that I'll quickly move onto the next subject....

I was fortunate enough to still have had a great year and being awarded the Angler of the Year title for the South. YIPEEEE!!!! ....and now I am the owner of a brand new......."drumroll please".......... a CUP!!!!

JeffKlicka.com - It's interesting to read about Jeff Klicka's adventures over the road fishing the FLW and WON Bass tours. He is quite an interesting guy with a FUNNY sense of humor. He loves life and it shows!
AndyManahl.com - Andy Manahl is a professional tournament angler too, he owns Mattress Depot in Arizona and has a wrapped boat...it is SAAWEEET Look'n too! A & M Graphics did a great job with the wrap!
MikeFolkestad.net - Mike Folkestad is an true professional, always handles himself in a highly respectable way with media, fans, organizations, at events, public speaking, and more. He is dedicated to his work as a pro bass angler, but also takes time to share his knowledge with other anglers through events, videos, Q&As and one on one with fans. He has made history many times, but notably for holding the title for several years as the only 3-time US Open champion....until Aaron Martens came along and took a 3rd title also this last July.
BassPundit.blogspot.com - This angler and blogger guy cracks me up with his subtle sense of humor. He always has an interesting take on things. He is good for the sport of bass fishing as he frequently recognizes people, blogs, and bass fishing websites. Always linking to their sites and giving them a lot of exposure too. Also, I can assume that the most extensive list of bass fishing blogs can be found on his website.
CalBassin.com - A fun bass fishing forum that Mike Folkestad, Chris Ricci, and myself have featured posts. Mike has a Q&A and Chris and I blog.
UltimateBass.com - Their front page is packed with great bass fishing information! ...and I just love their forum it's a fun place to hang out!
WesternBass.com - Has a very cool interactive online bass fishing magazine...that Andy Manah, Mike Folkestad, and myself write for.
TheBassHoles.com - They have a great name, and a cool logo! But they too....just like the other 3 forums....are fun to hang out there!
Examiner.com - Jody Only writes bass fishing articles for the Examiner and she is a really good angler. Jody and Ryan (her husband and who is also a really good angler) have been filming and creating some really cool videos!
WonBass.com - This fishing circuit just ROCKS! WON Bass puts on the prestigious US Open each year! They also write a column in the WON Bass bass fishing supplement you can find it on their interactive online version of their widely distributed newspaper filled with great information!
Daiwa.com -Yes, one of the reasons I am linking to them is because they are my sponsor...but that is not the only reason. The other reason is because I truly LOVE using Daiwa rods and reels....so much that I used them even before I was sponsored by them. (because you can feel even the softest bites) That right there is good enough reason why I am listing them in my list of favorites bass fishing websites. I may not learn much about fishing on their website, but I do learn of all the new, cool, and innovative designs each year!

The well-known, well-attended Bass-A-Thon at Angler's Marine in Anaheim, CA is Nov 19th-20th, '11. If you have a chance to make it, I highly suggest it. It's not near as big as the ICAST show, and that is one of the reasons to make it...since there is less walking and more hanging out talking with your favorite anglers! You are bound to run into a few anglers while you're there...Rick Clunn, Mark Rose, Skeet Reese, Terry Scroggins, Bill Dance, and Mike Folkestad.

While you are visiting, come by and say "Hi", I'll be at the TC Sports Report Media booth! Also, if you are an angler and want some exposure for your sponsors, I'll be there filming tips....come prepared with your jersey and lure/line/etc (if applicable to the tip). Interview with Hall of Famer - George Kramer (Fresh Water Fishing Hall of Fame)

It's the media (guys like Hall of Famer George Kramer) that can really help launch and perpetuate an angler's career. Through the years, I had been interviewed several times by George for print and Internet. Now, today was a regular routine interview; however, it was still very different. Today, I had a opportunity to interview George Kramer, a new inductee to the Fresh Water Fishing Hall of Fame.

TCSR: What are some of the most memorable moments in your career?
GK: I'd have to say that getting to cover the Bassmaster's Classic in the boat with the Pros as it used to be done back before television took over. Those were some of the most exciting moments, the moments that cleared away all of the estimations of what the Pros do or how they do it. You're right in the boat with them, often times they're talking about what they’re doing or what they're thinking, and that really helps lift any myths about the magic the pros might have. Not too much magic: a lot of good decision making, and a lot of hard work.

TCSR: What are some of the projects you've worked on through the years?
GK: I'd have to say, the all-time-project was the coffee table book, 'Bass Fishing: An American Tradition', it's in a beautiful large format, and it allowed me to write more than merely a fishing report. It was so beautifully illustrated by photographers all around the country.

Then I would have to say among the things that have generated interest and kept me stimulated, is when I started up the Top 40 California Bass Fisherman List. The first one I did was in the mid 90's for Fishing & Hunting News, and I've done it ever since.

TCSR: The Top 40 list will be published in the Bass-A-Thon Program, and keep check in with George Kramer's Bass Fishing News and Blog Website because the official release date will be just prior to that (officially, Nov. 7).

TCSR: What were some of your personal goals throughout your career?
GK: I had personal goals: one was that I wanted to edit a national magazine and I got to edit U.S. Bass Magazine for three years. I wanted to write a book, I had a chance to do a couple, now I am looking forward to a third. And, I always hope to get a limit on my next fishing trip.

TCSR: Anything you would like to add?
GK: I am much appreciative of Burt Twilegar (and family). He was the owner and publisher of Western Outdoors. I would have to say I am indebted to them for taking a chance at me back in the very beginning. It was 1977 when I went to work for them full-time, I was freelancing and working for the Orange County Register prior to that. I would say, of all things, I have never forgotten that.

TCSR: Thanks for taking the time out for me and the TC Sports Report readers. It was an honor. You are very deserving of the Hall of Fame Title.

"I have cancer", Lake Mead Update, and AOY points race

Bass fishing at Lake Mead is always a great challenge, but this time it was even more so! This event is very important, since it is the last one of the 3 southern tournaments and it determines the AOY (angler of the year points race). It was a tight race, and as every year as I was up against some very good anglers!

Prior to this event I was sitting in 4th. (click on the WON Bass points race chart to enlarge)
During pre fish I was only catching 1-3 keepers a
day. That's some tough days on the water but very workable, because contributing 1-2 fish a day in a tournament will contribute to a AAA winning a paycheck and increase the overall points standings. Too bad that stripers don't count...the day that I pre fished with Pro Andy Manahl, we caught a bunch! (see photo above) He also caught 2 on one topwater!

Fish'n 4 FUN! - TV Show - Episode 1 - "Bullards Bar Challenge"

For those of you who missed the show or don't get the show in your area, below is the 1st episode of my new TV Show...Fish'n 4 FUN! I filmed this episode at Bullards Bar Reservoir in Northern California...one of the hottest lakes for spotted bass. The weather was chilly but the fish'n was really hot and the scenery was beautiful! This 1st one is a fun fish'n challenge amongst my friends. Many of you know the anglers in the show, but even if you don't I have a feeling it will still be interesting for you. Hope you like it!

At the time this was filmed, Mike had won 3 US Opens, Chris and I were still trying. This last US Open Chris and Mike both ate bananas every morning. (I'm not joking!) Would you believe it...Chris won the US Open on the Co-angler side!

I am going to eat a banana every day until the US Open in July!

Pardee Lake!!!

I was invite to attend Media Day at Lake Pardee. Kent Brown with Ultimate Bass Radio was putting on the event. The purpose is to promote the Lake Pardee, the anglers, the sport of bass fishing, and to supply writers across the country with a bunch of photos and content that they can use throughout the year.

A few hours before the WON Bass pre tourney meeting. Get'n Ready.

How does that saying go? Hind sight is 20/20? That's how I feel after the FLW.

The last two back-to-back events were very interesting. WON Bass was 1st then the FLW. The pattern was pretty typical of pre-spawn, and most people seemed to catch fish.

I didn't have much time to pre-fish except for 1/2 day for the WON so I was crossing my fingers hoping to draw two locals to increase my odds with their local experience. How wrong was I! The first day my partner was Pro Terry Snyder from Lytly Creek CA, the 2nd day I drew Pro Mike Folkestad...my mentor from Orange, CA, how cool was that! I was very pleased with both draws...they had both done their homework and knew where and what to fish.

What the heck is going on with all these holes?

As we were fishing the first day of the WON Bass tournament at Lake Shasta, I noticed there were TONS of small holes in the dead trees that were sticking out of the water....about the size of a peanut.

As I observed, not paying too much attention to the close details, I saw several woodpeckers throughout the morning. As my fishing partner Andy and I passed the first tree, I noticed there were things stuck in the holes! At first glance I assumed it was some maggot or something. We continued to fish. As I watched the woodpeckers more, I noticed one taking something out the hole! What? I looked more closely as we approached the next tree. Can you believe it?....there were acorns in most of the holes.

I know this might seem quite stupid to some, but I truly love the outdoors and wildlife. This got me thinking, as I got very curious about this. I'm assuming the birds store food for the winter?

70 MPH in the Freezing Cold; oh yeah...and bass fishing update on Lake Shasta, CA

Right: Photo taken from Andy Manahl the 1st day! Those boats go FAST (about 70 mph) and I wasn't about to get a cold air chill! If you look closely (click the picture to enlarge) there is about 1/2 inch peep hole so I can see where we are going!

The last two tournaments were crazy cold and warm other days!!!! I'm talking about 35 degrees one day with rain, then sunny warm the next when you don't need a jacket! On the cold days, I wore 4 layers of clothes, with air activated heating pads in my pockets, and waterproof elk hunting boots! CRAZY COLD I SAY!!!! LOL

I feel good about the first tournament that kicked off the North WON Bass tour, I ended up in 21st place. My 1st day partner was Pro Andy Manahl and the second day it was Pro and Cal Delta Guide Mike O'Shea. (click on their names to visit their websites). They are both fish'n machines! Both pros worked the shoreline really slow and it seemed that most of our fish we caught next to the trees. Talking about trees...check out my next post coming up.

Bass Pro Shops and Mercury announced to WON Bass; More boats to be given away for 2011

This is a huge deal! Bass Pro Shops/Nitro Boats and Mercury are sponsors of WON Bass.

There have been negotiations going on for a while now, and just before the Christmas break they received the announcement that they will continue their sponsor deal for 2011 and in addition they will be giving away more Nitros this coming season.

If I were in the Pro division I would be trying to win the $5,000 that Daiwa is giving away for the Daiwa Cup, in addition to winning a boat! But....since I'm a pro-co (professional co-angler), I'll be shooting for the boat that they will be awarding to a AAA/Co-Angler.

Very cool! Yippee!!!! I'm going to work really hard and try to win a boat! Wait a minute...that means I will need something to pull it with....I guess if I win it, I will have to cross that bridge then. I guess it's good to dream big!
