Beyond the Zone, Power Lift: Review

Again I am impressed with another Beyond the Zone product. They are a lot like Bead Head but half the price. I'm always looking for a way to get some lift in my hair and this product really gave me some volume! Beyond the Zone, Power Lift is a good root booster for the price. This 10 oz product retails for $6.99 at Sally Beauty Supply and is well worth the money.

I applied in on my hair when it was towel dried. The way it comes out is a little crazy and it's hard to control at first. I suppose it's something you learn to get used to. It squirts out really fast and with a lot of power. It smells a little strong and there was a left over mist all over the place. It also foams up as it comes out so you can really spread it around. The whole idea is that you want to focus on the roots, but I took the extra product that was on my hands and ran it through the ends of my hair as it says in the directions.

I worked it through my whole head really good and then began blowing it dry. While I blew it dry I shook up my roots to give it more lift and to keep spreading the product. When it was almost dry, I took a large round brush and blew it dry it sections. The product was not sticky and I was easily able to run my fingers through my hair. The volume I got from this product was truly amazing and my hair was also shiny as well. I didn't even need any more serum or shine product. I teased the crown a little and added a little hair spray and I was ready to go.

**** I give this product 4 out of 5 stars. I would have given it 5 if it wasn't for all of the left over mist and craziness of the squirting. However the volume you get from this product is amazing and it lasted me all day:)

More Product Reviews: Beyond the Zone Pro Formula "Thick Enuff"

I am going to start doing more product reviews on my blog. I am always trying new beauty products for Hair, nails and makeup and I would like to share my opinion on them with you.

I was at sallies the other day and I took advantage of a sale they were having on their Beyond the Zone products. Today I'm going to review the "Thick Enuff."

Thick Enuff came in a 10.5 fl oz. It retailed for $7.49. It has a citrus sort of candy smell to it and a white creamy texture that is sort of thick. I used about a quarter size amount in my hair before I blew it dry. It spread throughout my hair easily and it was not sticky, because I could still easily get the brush through my hair.

After it was dry I could notice that it had more volume, it felt thicker and more full. It did however look dull with no shine so I added a little serum to the ends and it looked better. This product like many others will work well in combination with others I have. I will defiantly continue to use this product. I feel that it worked well with my fine textured hair and it would well for anyone that wanted some extra body.

How to do Golden Blonde Highlights on Natural Red Hair: Sliced and Chunky

I have been wanting to do this video for a while now. My friend has the most beautiful natural red hair color. Her hair has natural highlights coming through already, but adding more blonde actually enhances her red hair.

Because she already has natural highlights, we needed to make the highlights more thick and chunky in order for them to show.

The way you make more thick and chunky highlights is by slicing the foils right next to each other back to back. The more foils you slice back to back, the more chunky your highlights will be.

I tried something new with the music in this video. I added music throughout the whole video with Apple iMovie, instead of just the beginning and the end of the video. I set the volume really low so you could still hear me talk. I think it's a little bit better with the background music. I hope everybody likes it.

My Video Lighting. I am always struggling with the lighting in my videos. They are either too bright and there is a glare and it looks yellow or they are not bright enough...so frustrating. There is a little bit of a glare in this video, but its not too bad. The true hair color is so hard to capture on You Tube.

The American Beauty Show

I am getting really excited about the The Americas Beauty show coming up. With only 1 week to go.....It used to be called the "Midwest Show." This year it is held at the Mccormick Place in Chicago. Although I have been to a number of classes, it has been more then 5 years since I've been to this one. It is the biggest get together for Hairstylists in Chicago and the surrounding areas. Hairstylists come from all over the place to go to this thing.

The first time I went, I was right out of school and I was in complete Awww. It's like the car show, but all about hair. "Pure Heaven!" There's platform artists everywhere and people trying to sell you things every which way you turn. It's like the classiest, coolest Flee market/Mall/Hair Show ever! As well as Hairstylists everywhere! It is so much fun seeing all the Hairstylist with the all the new edgy looks. And the shopping.... I also enjoy running into past coworkers or even old Bosses.

I came home with all sorts of random items! All sorts of products.. Makeup, Hair products, nail polish, creams... You can get your scissors sharpened or buy a new pair..thinning, texture shears,, blow-dryers, curl irons...

New trends are bought out here as well. Last year this show introduced the Feather Extensions to the Chicago area. So it will be interesting to see what the new trends of this year will be.

Braids and updos are so in right now still, but it would be kind of cool to see some more short haircuts come in to the picture.

I don't know what kind of pictures or video taping is aloud, but I'm gonna bring my stuff.....

I plan on writing in my blog more. I think its a good way to not only get my thoughts off my chest, but a good way to connect with people on a deeper level. I don't have nearly as many people following my blog as I do my You Tube channel, but I enjoy it just the same :)

Long Layered Haircut (Extra Long Layers) "Hair Tutorial"

There are lots of different ways to layer hair. But the truth is that the more layers that you have in your hair, the more work it is to take care of it. If you keep the distance between the layers and the length at a minimum you will have less hair to fix. Those of you that have had a haircut with Lots of layers know exactly what I am talking about.

This last model I cut has thick to medium thickness and has pretty straight hair. We added some long layers into it. We pretty much just layered the bottom few inches of her hair. This will make it easy for her to style her hair, but at the same time she will look trendy and put together.

Babyliss 1 1/2" Curling Iron Review with Video Hair Tutorial

Babyliss has always been one of my favorite product lines so when I was asked by Flat Iron Experts to do this review, I new I would not be disappointed....

I also got a really cute flat iron holder that will definitely come in handy....

This was a great curling iron to work with. It glided through my hair nicely to create the big wavy curls I was trying to achieve.

Continue Your Education: Hair and Beauty

I am going on my 20th year of doing hair. I can not stress how important continuing education has helped me.

When I look back at myself right after beauty school, I thought I knew everything, when actually I was just beginning. I have been fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to continue my education through the different solons I have worked at.

My first few years I worked at a neighborhood salon, Thomas Michaels in Westchester, that brought in training from the outside. But good classes from Goldwell, Rusk, and Aveda, etc...

I then decided after 5 years of doing hair to retrain at a 5 star salon. Mario Tricoci was great. It took my skills to a level that I otherwise could have never reached. It was hard at first, but really was one of the best decisions I could have made, because I really learned a lot about cutting hair.

After a short break, because I had my 2 kids, I went back to work at Anna George on Michigan Ave, Chicago. I again relearned a lot about hair color, products and different cutting techniques from my coworkers, and more classes that were bought into their salon.

I now work from home, so I have to search for continuing education on my own. I am looking forward the the Americas Beauty show coming this March. I know that I will come back with a wealth of information as well as a bag full of new goodies to try.

Every class I have ever taken, every time I have sat down and watched someone, I have learned something. It could be something simple like a new way to part hair to a career changing learning experience.

You can never stop learning in our business. New trends will always keep us on our toes. It is never good to feel you know it all, because that is when you will learn no more. That's all for now:)

Long Layered Haircut on Fine Textured Hair: Hair Tutorial Video

Long Layers look good on almost everyone. It works really well with fine hair, because it makes it appear thicker and fuller. Too short of layers on fine hair could make the hair look thin and transparent. My hair is pretty thin and I know from experience that longer layers work much better for me.

In this haircut I kept it pretty classic with a little bit of texturizing. You also have to be very careful not to add too much texture on fine hair or the hair will look limp and stringy. Just a little bit of point cutting should be enough to blend this haircut on fine hair.

Copper Hair Color Lowlights and Highlights: Hair Tutorial Video

Happy New Year! It's been a while since I posted something. The holidays took over and with the kids being off school, I couldn't get anything done.

I really enjoy blogging and uploading videos, but they do take a lot of time. I like to edit and re-edit my videos until I get them just the way I want them. I usually have a couple of videos backed up at a time.

All and all I love creating videos and I love blogging and I am so glad that I have come upon all of this.

That being said I have created a great video for you. My friend Beth made a terrific model for this, because she had virgin hair and wanted to keep it somewhat natural looking.

It was just one of those things....Should I do Red or Blonde...that's when I say go Copper. It is the perfect "In-between" that you can't go wrong with.

The Highlights give it brightness and pizazz while the lowlights give it depth and dimension.

Long Layers with Graduation: Video Hair Tutorial

A Long Layered haircut looks good on just about anyone. The length is great for when you want to put it up or wear it down in beautiful sultry like waves.

In some cases, however, the hair is so thick that there just seems to be too much hair and the weight of it takes over. One way to take care of this is to add some graduation in the back. Adding some layers closer to the head will decrease unwanted heaviness and bulk.

Low-Lights and Highlights on an All Over Golden Blonde Hair Color: Video Hair Tutorial

Learning how to apply an all over color in between foils was hard for me to learn at first.....

Not only do have to know how to foil hair...You have to know how to lock in your foils so they stay in tact as you move them out of the way to apply your all over color.

First, you apply all of your foils. I usually leave the low-lights folded longer and my highlights folded shorter so I can keep track of which is which. I also make sure that my foils a folded tight and secure so will not move while I'm applying the all over color.

Then you apply all the all over color in-between the foils. You do this just like you would a apply regular all over color you simply move the foils out of the way as you go along.

You can use this technique with any hair color you choose. In this situation I wanted to achieve a Golden Blonde Hair Color with lots of dimension. Adding highlights and/or low-lights can make any all over hair color look more professional. In this case it broke up the gold in the hair and left it a more attractive golden blonde....not to gold or brassy.

It can be a big mess if your not careful. Working in a pattern will help you from getting lost in the hair.

Short Layered Haircut, Pixie-cut "Hair Tutorial" Razored and Textured

A "Pixie-cut" is another name for a short layered haircut. The main idea is the back and sides are cropped short while the top of the hair may or may not stay a little longer. So there are many, many different versions of this haircut.

Women of all ages can wear this look. This is also flattering hairstyle for all facial shapes and easy to take care of.

In this tutorial the layers are short, but not too short, so this is a somewhat of "Longer version" of the Pixie-cut.

"Sulta's 'the seductress' Flat Iron" Review with How to Get Wavy, Sultry Curls Hair Tutorial

I recently received "the suductress" 1 inch flat iron courtesy of Sultra. This iron has gotten a lot of hype lately, so I was really looking forward to trying it out myself. Let me tell you this is a really nice iron. I just love working with it.

When I first started to blow-dry my hair, I turned the iron on, as I usually do to give it some time to heat up. Then 4 seconds later...beep beep..it was already hot. It really does have a rapid heat up time.

I was impresses by the fine, medium, and thick hair settings. The thicker your hair, the hotter the iron will get...so less hair damage.

The high gloss coating is not just pretty to look at, but is a very practical. The iron just glides around the hair when you are using it for waves and curls and does not pull or drag on the hair.

As a professional I can really appreciate the 9 foot swivel cord, because then I can work behind the chair without having to turn the chair or have the cord lay in my client's lap.

I really like the 1 inch size plates, because you can do so many things with it. You can flat iron it straight, curl it, wave it, flip it, make beachy waves...whatever you like. It's a good versatile iron for all kinds of hair.

Now on to the Hair Tutorial.... First, I blow-dried it out for maximum fullness by shaking up the roots and then using a large round brush. Then, section at a time I created sultry like curls with the flat iron.

How to create a Angel Hair with Hair Tinsel and Foam Rollers

We did a practice run for my daughter's angel Halloween costume that she's wearing this year.

At night time, before she went to sleep, we applied Hair Tinsel Extensions.....

Then we rolled all her hair up in "Foam Rollers" A.K.A "Sponge Rollers".....

After a good night sleep we finished everything up in he morning.....

Tint Back with Peek-A-Boo Highlights: Hair Tutorial Video

I love Peek-A-Boo Highlights, they are so much fun and work for all age groups. It's a great way to add a little something to your hair without going over the top.

In this video I am doing a Tint Back from Blonde to Brown, while adding Peek-A Boo Highlights underneath.

The reason why these highlights are called Peek-A-Boo is because you do not add highlights to the top of your head, you are only adding highlights to the bottom sections. So the top sections of the hair will lay over the highlights giving it that, "Now you see it now you don't effect."

I Have a New Blog Banner!

Hey I just wanted to say that I Love My New Blog Banner!

My friend Jessica put this together for me and I just Love, Love, Love it! I just want to kiss the computer screen every time I look at it ...ha ha! (just kidding)

All the pictures in the Banner are of my stuff.. Those are my scissors that I use everyday, my Blow-dryer, curl iron and bobby pins. I also love that there is no other Banner like it:)

Although my blog doesn't get as much traffic as my You Tube channel, I enjoy writing in it and I spend a lot of time on it. Blogging as well as creating videos has been a great outlet for me. I have been able to literally reach out to people from all over the world and the whole experience has just been Awesome!

Caramel Color Partial Highlights on Medium Brown Hair: You Tube Video Tutorial

When you think of caramel color... think of the caramel candy:) It's sort of that dark blonde, light brown hair color with a hint of gold. Caramel color highlights are nice to apply over darker hair shades.

I would have to say that this has got to be one of the most popular hair color requests that I get from clients.

Caramel highlights are great to put on darker shades, because it blends in well and won't make the highlights look too stripy.

Salon Centric Beauty Products Haul: Pictures and You Tube Video

Salon Centric is a Beauty supply house for licensed professionals. I go here quite often so I can get the products I need and the little extras of course.

I got some Matrix Color Sync. I use this Demi-Permanent hair color for low-lights, tint backs, and for grey hair blending.

I got some Redkin Shades EQ. I use shades for low-lights, tint backs, and as a toner.

I got some Redkin Color Fusion. I use this for grey coverage, lightning and darkening the hair.

I got some smaller sized brushes in a box of 3. I can use these for lots of things.

I loaded up on black and brown bobby pins. I can never have enough of these.

I got a bunch of Redkin hair styling products.

I also got some really cute winter color nail polishes by Essie and CND.
