Robyn Carr with a new series

The Wanderer by Robyn Carr

I have read all the Virgin River books. I loved them so I was in a hurry to start this new series from Robyn Carr. So far I am not disappointed.

The Thunder Point books are set in Thunder Point, Oregon. A beautiful community. Just from reading some of the descriptions, I want to visit there. Describing the community took up quite a bit of the book, but as the starting point, that was a wise choice in my opinion.

Hank Cooper comes to this small community after his friend Ben dies and he finds out he was left Ben's shack. When he shows up in town he has a lot of questions surrounding Ben's death. He makes friends with the deputy sheriff and together they investigate what happened to Ben. Hank doesn't believe it was an accident.

What a mess he walks into when he goes to check out the property! The place smells of sewage and other things. So far the only good thing he sees out of this is the beautiful beach front. He has crews come in and clean up the place, to get it back in business, so he can leave.

Hank meets Landon, a teenage boy having some trouble with a bully. Through Landon, Hank meets Sarah, Landon's sister and guardian, whom is a divorced coast guard helicopter pilot. There is a strong attraction that Sarah tries to fight as best she can. Sarah was burned by her husband and doesn't trust men. How can she trust Hank Cooper?

Just like in the Virgin River series, there is more than just the two main characters. There are other romances in bloom. The secondary characters do not take away from Sarah and Hank at all.

I liked this book because it was more than just a romance. There is a little mystery in the mix also. What happened to cause Ben's death? Will they ever find out? Will Sarah and Hank be together? What will happen between the other couples?

I am ready to read the next book (The Newcomer)that comes out June 2013

Debbie Macomber's Christmas Cookbook

I had the pleasure of reading Debbie's Macomber's Newest cookbook for Christmas. I loved it! Some of the names of the recipes had me thinking twice, until I read the ingredients. I plan on trying a few out for the holiday season.

I don't normally go for cookbooks, as I honestly hate to cook. My husband does most of the cooking and my 17 yr old too. I will be keeping this one for sure.

I think what made this cookbook so great for me was that it's more than a cookbook. Debbie talks about crafts for the holidays, her family, etc. this made the book seem personal. I rather enjoy that. She has some really good ideas and family stories in there that actually inspire me.

The only thing I found wrong with my copy was all the H's seem to have disappeared in all the titles. Oh well it didn't really bother me that much. I got the book from Netgalley for nothing, so I'm not complaining!

Swept Off Her Stilettos

Swept Off Her Stilettos by Fiona Harper was the second book I read during the Dewey 24hr read-a-thon I took part in over the weekend. I must say this book was a good read. The whole red bit with Coreen was different. She loves attention from men. There is one man she really wants and is determined to get. Nicholas isn't interested at first. Of course Adam, Coreen's best friend to the rescue!

This book was a bit different than my normal reads. This one had a murder-mystery weekend in it, which personally I think made the book. The whole from best friend to lover makes it a nice read. this is a very clean book, which was an added bonus. I do suggest this one.

Only His

Only His By Susan Mallery was the second book of the series that i read. Yes I know I didn't read them in order. I thought this book was just good. Honestly though it could've been better.

The whole girl who is wanted by the guy and by the guys ex just wasn't my thing. I believe tucker could've been made to be a better character. Nevada was an alright character for the most part. I just didn't feel the connection between the two of them. I felt more of a connection between Jo and Will.

With that said, I will still read the book I'm missing.

**Third Update**
I am in the middle of my second book. Swept Off Her Stilettos is ok so far. I did take a break to eat dinner and to work on one of my craft orders. I took a bath since I was cold (don't worry I read in the tub)! Now back to the couch with my kindle I go!

I just finished Only His. What a great story! My review will come during the week. Now I must take a break and then start another book.

**UPDATE**
Have been reading for a little over an hour now and I really don't have much to say. I want to get back to my book lol.

Dewey's 24 Hr Read A Thon started this morning and I am running behind. I had a late night, since I haven't been feeling well and just got up. First on the list is to get a drink, get dressed in comfy clothes and settle down on the couch with my Kindle.

It's chilly out today, so it's a good day to read. I will be reading Susan Mallery's Only His to start with. After that I am not sure.

I had the pleasure of reading the historical romance Escaping the Fire by Carolyn Chambers and Anthony Auriemma.

My summary.....

Isobel de Toledo is a healer. In Seville, Spain, only men are allowed to be healers. Woman who are healers are burned at the stake. When Isobel's friend Clara is caught and found guilty, they burn her at the stake. Isobel is next on the list. She must save herself.

Isobel and her new love, Richard, marry and set sail for the New World. Along the way, they encounter pirates, sickness, a birth, and much more.

Once they finally settle into their new life, will everything be alright?

My thoughts on this book....

This book was a bit different from my usual. History was never a strong point for me, so when I saw this was a historical romance, I thought to myself, will I like it.

I must admit, I did like the book. The plots were good. A few of the character names were a bit different, which was a nice switch. While reading, I found myself not wanting to put the book down, as I kept wondering what would happen next. The only thing I found fault with, was the fact that there really wasn't a lot of romance in it. (I am a romantic at heart and love more romance in my books.) I'm not saying there wasn't any romance, just not enough in my opinion.

Only Yours

I had the pleasure of reading Susan Mallery's Only Yours. I never read her before. I thought I was reading Only His, but boy was I wrong! My mistake. Guess that will be next to read.

In Only Yours, it's about Montana and Simon. Montana is a triplet. She has finally found her calling, working with therapy dogs. When one of her dogs (whom her boss says just doesn't have it in him to be a therapy dog) runs into the hospital and onto the burn ward, Montana meets Dr. Simon Bradley. On to what I thought about the book. I found myself having different emotions while reading this book. When reading about Simon's childhood, I couldn't help but feel bad for him. Susan Mallery wrote about it in just the right way that it hit a nerve in me. All in all this way a really good read that I enjoyed. The writer does make you feel what the characters are feeling in my opinion.

Of course, everyone has their own opinions and may not agree with me.

I will be reading the other two books for sure!

This book has 225 handmade projects for all holidays all year round. A few of the projects and ideas are quilled greeting cards, glitter balloons, table setting ideas, harvest centerpieces, etc. Some of the projects are really nice and the ideas are good to have to.

The instructions seem alright to me, but not everyone may agree . You can find a few of these projects on her website. One thing you should know before you buy the book is that you have to get the patterns off her website. You are only given thumbnails of each clipart or template in the book. So if you don't have internet access, what will you do?

I can't say whether the book is worth the purchase, as some might say it is and some might say it isn't. I'm honestly not sure how I feel about it.

Harlequin Intrigue are usually pretty good books in my opinion. After I read the summary, I knew I had to read this book. I figured it would be a good read.

Detective Ashton(Ash)Kendall finds out he will be a dad the same day he finds out his parents killer is being freed. How will he deal with a double blow?

Rachel Stevens is a darn good DNA specialist. She, unknowingly, is the reason Ash's parents presumed killer is freed and now she is pregnant with Ash's baby. How will she deal with hitting Ash with the double blow?

Ash is a regular casanova, or in his case Ashanova, as they call him. He never lets a woman get close. Rachel isn't the clingy type. At first I thought, oh boy another mushy romance with a mystery twist. Boy was I wrong! This book is more mystery and a little bit of romance (but not the mushy kind). I thought the book had just the right amount of both in it. Mallory Kane, in my opinion, did a great job with the characters and the plot. I could feel Ash's anger or worry when I was reading. I could feel the love Rachel felt for the unborn baby.

I wasn't feeling very well the night I was reading it but I found it very hard to put down. My husband literally had to take my kindle away from me when he saw that I could barely keep my eyes open. As soon as I got up the next morning, I had to finish the book. I just had to know what was going to happen next and how the book would end!

If you like Harlequin, I would recommend this.

My Review: I found this book to be interesting. As a crafter, I never could get into sewing (unless it was on my greeting cards). This book has made me rethink trying my hand at sewing a project. Kelly has really great projects in this book. She tells you supplies needed and step by step instructions for each project. I found the instructions to be easy to follow.

The book has more than just sewing projects in it. It even has party ideas and even ideas to get kids started in crafting.

The writing style is easy to follow and she makes everything in the book fun to read.

I recommend this book if you are into crafting and looking for new project ideas for around your house or as gifts to give away. From bibs to diaper bags,from aprons to towels, from collages to bookmarks, she has many projects. You're bound to find something you are interested in trying your hand at!

On October 22, 2011 at noon GMT (which if I am correct would be 8 am for me). This will be my first time joining in. Dewey's Read-a-Thon sounds like fun. I spend most weekends reading, so this is sure to be fun.

I can take part in this while still doing my NetGalley month. Wonder if I can finish 1 or 2 books in 24 hrs. Guess I better get planning which books to read and not planning on doing anything else that weekend.

NetGalley Month

Have you heard of NetGalley? I found it about a week ago. It's this great site where you can request books to read and recommend them. The best part is it's free to join. I requested 16 books this week and got them all! How cool is that? Good thing I love to read and make time to do it everyday!

I found this other website called red house books and Emily is hosting NetGalley October. It's a month long read-a-thon where you read as many NetGalley books as you possibly can. I'm in for sure. I love to read and this sounds like fun.

I just finished reading.......

Claire James is a 23 yr old who's mother just died. Claire keeps her mom's '72 Volkswagen. In the glove box, she finds a love letter to her mother from 35 years ago. She keeps the letter. She must move in with her sister and sister's husband, Haley and Mark. After losing her job, she gets kicked out of her sister's house and heads for Capitola, Ca., in search of the writer of the love letter. Along the way she meets up with an old neighbor, an old co-worker, and meets plenty of new people. She learns a lot along the way. One of the things she hears often is pray! Join Claire on her adventure and see what she finds out in the end. Will it be all she hopes for?

I enjoyed reading this book more than I thought I would. There are a variety of characters. The plot was good.

Sunday's what will you read this week

I had a thought today after searching other blogs. I would love to start a Sunday ritual where I will do a post and everyone comments about what they will be reading that week. Would you guys/ladies be interested? I thought it might get us all more traffic for our blogs and help us get to know each other a little better.

The idea I had in mind is if we all post and visit each others blogs, it might send more traffic each other's way. If everyone comments and leaves their blog url, we can visit them and then if they have posted, we can visit their visitors too. What do you think? I will start one today and see how well it goes over. If it doesn't go over well, then I know not to do it anymore.

Deals of the day and Free books for kindle or pc

How many of you own a kindle or read on the computer? I own 4 kindles in my house. I have one and so do my three daughters. The weird thing is, we still read actual books too. To me, it's the best of both worlds. I read so much that I started running out of room to store my books. That's when I got the kindle. It stores 3500 books in one place for you. So I went through my book shelf and got rid of a lot of books and kept the ones I have by my favorite authors.

One day I heard about this site that posts what books are on Amazon free for that day. Of course I had to check it out. Turns out they do a deal of the day too. All the books they post about are from Amazon. Here check out ereader news today. I'm not always crazy for the books, but I have gotten some free ones for both myself and my girls. They post almost everyday.

I hope someone finds this post useful. After all, who doesn't like free books?

Q. Do you have a favorite series that you read over and over again? Tell us a bit about it and why you keep on revisiting it?

Well my answer is simple. I LOVE the IN DEATH SERIES by J.D. ROBB. this series is a mix of romance and mystery. There are the same main characters. Eve Dallas and Rourke are the two main, along with Peabody and McNabb and a few others. Eve and Rourke are married and Rourke has a ton of money. He use to be on the wrong side of the law. Eve is a speak your mind kind of gal. She isn't use to having money, getting close to people, etc. She is a homicide detective. Peabody is her partner. The combination of romance and mystery makes them all a great read. Just be warned they are very explicate books with language and such. There are so many books in the series, that after reading a few,I forget about the earlier ones, so I like to go back and read them again.

How New York City Saved My Life by Meredyth Murray

How New York Saved My Life is about Meredyth, who finds a sponsor and is able to leave Belize. She arrives in New York wanting to follow her american dream. It doesn't take her long to get her first job caring for an elderly woman. The position is as a live- in which gets her away from her sponsor. After this job, she is offered another one doing the same thing.

She returns to Belize for a few years and then moves back to New York with her husband. (She married him when she returned to Belize.) Both, her husband and herself get jobs. They end up moving around quite a bit. Meredyth ends up going through a number of jobs for various reasons. They have children, foster a few children and end up adopting children. Meredyth is active in her church and community. She learns how people can be different in different cities. She goes back to school. You'll have to read the book to see what became of Meredyth. I'm not telling!

Reading this book, I learned how if one is determined enough, you can overcome just about anything to have your dream/dreams. Life isn't always easy and sometimes you have to make hard sacrifices. I also learned how different people from each city can be. I considered this a good read and I think the author did a good job of describing her life as she lived it.

Lori, Runaway Wife by Valentine Dmitriev

All too often you hear about spousal abuse. It's a fact of life. Most women are afraid to get out of an abusive relationship. They think they can't or they have been threatened.

Lori, Runaway Wife is about Lori. She is an abused wife. She is married to Boyd, who only married her because his mother told him to. His mother wants the Larson house that Lori will inherit when her aunt passes on.

Lori didn't know about Boyd's abusive side until after the wedding. Boyd is also controlling. Lori gets an allowance a month from when her parents passed on. Boyd takes it and only gives Lori $50 a month allowance for anything she might need.

Lori is a nursing student and works at a local hospital. One day while on shift, a car accident woman is brought into maternity and the boyfriend is frantic. Lori finds him on the floor and befriends him. Lori realizes he is a well known book author, Ian Damion. She ends up staying a bit after her shift and on her way home stops at the bookstore to purchase Ian Damion's books. When she gets home, Boyd is mad and gives her a kick. She ends up falling and has a bruised face and fractured ribs.

The next day, Ian is looking for someone to go home with him as Baby Danny's nanny. Lori realizes this is her escape from Boyd, and offers to do it. Ian takes her up on it.

She adjusts to her new life as a nanny just well. Ian and her get along for the most part. She keeps her secret about leaving a husband behind. Soon, though she may have to tell Ian.

Since I am in the middle of reading a few books that I promised I would do reviews on, I thought I would share a few titles by one of my favorite authors. Nora Roberts is one of my favorite mystery/romance writers. Since I can't post about the books I am presently reading, I thought I'd share a few good books that I have enjoyed over the last year by her. (I am sorry that they aren't long reviews, but I haven't been feeling well as of late and am on medications.)

First up is BLUE SMOKE. Reena, as a child, watches her family's pizza joint go up in flames. That's when her interest in flames and fire starts. Years later she becomes an arson investigator for the Boston Police Department. She's a darn good one. She buys her first house and starts seeing the guy next door that just happens to call her his dream girl from some years ago. Of course, once things starting going good, they always end up going downhill shortly after. She finds herself the object of a nasty revenge plot. Can she save her family, her new man and herself? Read the book to find out.

Next up is Northern Lights. Nate, the chief of police mets Meg and is interested to say the least! The romance is between them but so is the mystery of what happened to Meg's father 16 years ago. Will they discover what happened or did he just up and leave?

Last but not least is High Noon. Phoebe, a Lieutenant and the top hostage negotiator for Savannah, meets Duncan when one of his employees is on the roof of a building threatening to jump. He's interested in her and she feels the same, but doesn't think she has time for romance with being a single mom and having a mother who can't bring herself leave the house. Phoebe ends up getting attacked and turns to Duncan. From there the mystery and romance evolve.
