my first haircut!!

ok - so there wasn't exactly much to start off with, but the fact remains that the scissors did their justice to the little bit of fluff there was on my head. it was time, mummy said, to face the fact that i was just not going to be one of those babies with a head full of fluffy curly afro hair. instead i was to face my reality and make the most of a bald head - for now. as she was chatting, i really wasn't too bothered. i was watching the fluff falling and thinking of how i could reach it and taste it. i'd never seen anything like it - looked so tasty. however it was as if mummy was reading my mind, for as my little finger reached down to grab the fluff she swooped in like a seagull and grabbed it. she said she's saving a bit for me to see when i'm older. there was only a bit on my head so i guess she's saved it all.

oh well - here i am on sunday after the haircut, with the biggest bow she could find!

its been a busy couple of weeks! as you know we are busy working on our new website whatmummywore...well, mummy is....

i just tell her 'no,no' when i don't like something. i bet you didn't realise i could talk now! yes - my speech is coming along nicely. i can now say a few things - mummy is required to interpret what these sayings are.

here is my dictionary:

aa - tiii - thank you

taaa - thank you, now give it to me

kaka - mummy (her name is tanaka so i call here kaka, or daddy when she asks me to say mummy)

daddy - daddy : pretty easy to say. that's my story and i'm sticking with it.

kaki - ducky

a ball - a ball

sooz - shoes

...and as previously stated, i have learnt to articulate 'no'.

what a magical word.

that, coupled with my shaking of the head and the occasional wagging of the finger guarantee that mummy/daddy stop whatever they are doing to annoy me. i have also discovered it comes in especially handy when they try to trick me by diverting my attention with a toy when i want my milk - i don't care that it's hot. i look them square in the face and say 'NO' and point at the bottle.

finally, when someone i'm not too sure about charges at me to try and kiss me, i can now expressly say 'NO' and wag the finger incase they are hard of hearing. should they continue stampeding in my direction, i turn my entire body away and say 'nonononononono!'. mummy is not best pleased about this latest development.

anyway, here she is feeling very pleased with her new hair!

and here i am protesting as i still have the same old hairstyle - not fair.

...these are a few of mum's favourite things....

here are the rest:

1. filling online shopping baskets to the point where she has almost one of everything available in zara - then shutting down and shouting 'ONE DAY!!'

2. getting daddy to ring up estate agents so she can view properties she cant afford then coming home a little depressed and cleaning in the hope her bathroom and kitchen can look like the one she just saw.

3. telling my hair to grow ( i clearly tell it not to grow as i'm not ready for the afro madness that awaits me)

4. chasing me around with a camera trying to get images for this blog. hang on, i think that's one of my favourite things - she doesn't look too amused when i dash off just as she says 'perfect shot -no! wait there!'.

5. the smell of good quality leather shoes. i catch her sitting there smelling her new boots - weirdo.

6. kissing me and cuddling me from morning till night....when i let her.

7. buying....anything. anything at all. daddy says money makes her feel itchy.

8. putting the cart before the horse. daddy says 'i agree. lets buy a house'. mummy hears 'start filling up the garage with furniture for the new house - NOW!'

mummy says her ultimate favourite thing is sitting by my cot and watching me sleep...and marvelling at what a blessing & little miracle i am.

mummy and i have decided to write posts about a few of our favourite things. here are mine in countdown order:

10. scratching mummy or daddy or any other adults eyes and shouting "ouch!" as I do so.

9. playing kissy kiss with mummy and daddy where I kiss them both in turn over and over till we all burst out laughing ...

8. waving my finger and shouting at mummy or daddy when they do something to annoy me.

7. wrapping my arms around the necks of those I love for that extra special cuddle

6. throwing toys/food/anything not rooted down, from a high place and watching them hit the ground....then
saying 'oopsi daisy' and demanding that mummy or daddy pick them up.... so I can do it all over again.

5. spit out any food that's in my mouth as soon as I spot my juice - I've got to create room.

4. cece my rag doll who comes everywhere with me.

3. saying 'dada' when mummy begs me to say mummy.

2. demanding to brush my teeth when mummy or daddy brush theirs....whether mine have already been brushed or not.

and at number 1......

...pooping in the bath tub just for the added drama that creates. especially when my godmother aunty tinashe comes round to babysit.

whilst mummy works hard getting things ready, i'm busying myself looking through pictures from the summer. here's a few from the day i was enjoying a day out at a mini steam engine park in leatherhead, surrey. having experienced the joys of eating sand and all the havoc that caused (read about it here) i decided grass might be more fun. it looked like someone had prepared a carpet of salad just for me!

p.s going back to the sand drama - mummy was suitably overjoyed to find there is now a large notice in my nursery saying: MORAYO-HOPE IS NOT ALLOWED TO EAT SAND.

i am still trying to work out how to get back into that sandpit...it really is just so tasty.

just another day in the office...

last week i got to visit mummy's office. it was one of those odd days when mummy decided she was having a life and going out with her colleagues for an after-work cocktail. so...she picked me from nursery then daddy picked me from her office and took me home. i'd overheard her chatting about this in the morning. so that day i decided to eat sand at nursery. i ate as much sand as i could fit in my little fists. what i hadnt bargained for was what would happen to me after it went through my tummy. lets just say my bottom needed a LOT of tlc. i just pooped sand all evening. mummy on the other hand enjoyed a fun evening out with her colleagues. i saved her some sandy poop for the morning diaper - wouldn't want her to feel left out.

thats me & mummy's colleague, Louise. we played peekaboo & she let me show her my expertise on the computer. here i am signing off a few purchase orders. i was checking all the figures matched back ofcourse.

mummy's other colleague, Victoria - took this lovely photo and gave it this aged effect. why can't my mummy do cool stuff like this?

anyway, i gave lots of hi fives and cuddles before leaving them all to enjoy their night out.

olympic special

mummy says she can't believe the summer of sport is over...we have had fun watching the olympics and paralympics on tv everyday. mummy seemed to be particularly attentive during the swimming - the men's swimming to be precise. daddy would be distracted on the laptop until a certain victoria pendleton would come on the screen. suddenly he would come to life. hmm.

anyway - my olympic experience has been fun - mummy says i'll never remember this so she took lots of pictures of the 2 days we had enjoying the olympic events. one was the torch relay and the other was the canoe sprint in eton dorney. we had a lot of fun at both.

Look who's walking too!!

Ok - i'd had enough. everywhere we went it seemed all people wanted to know was whether i was walking or not. well i wasn't in the zone yet. i didn't want to walk. i was quite happy on all fours where i could continue to scrutinise every inch of the floor undisturbed. one day i might spot a little seed on the kitchen floor whilst mummy cooks at which point she screams as I place it speedily in my mouth and speed off! on another I might chase after the rubbish as mummy tries desperately to sweep. why walk?!

well that was until yesterday, Sunday August 26th, when as we sat in the family room in church it seemed all my fellow friends had sold out on me. off they went one by one as everyone ooh'd and ahh'd. I was trying to be unbothered until the one baby with the hair that my mummy envies above all others decided to make a beeline for my mummy. what?! I was not having it. i got up too and just went for it, collapsing in a heap on my mummy after 3 steps. attention turned back to me and balance was restored. Of course now that I'd revealed my capabilities on 2 legs there was no turning back. The rest of Sunday was spent with mummy chasing me with her camera and me refusing to perform on demand. balance well and truly restored.

ok...i've been lying low. mummy has NOT been best pleased with me lately. it seems my habit of waking up at 1, 3 and 5 in the morning is not amusing to her. i just don't get it! i remember a year ago, she was the one poking me and pressing my chest checking if i was still alive....every 5 minutes! naturally i thought that was the natural order. we all go to bed, then every so often we wake up to check the other person is alive. they are the ones who have made the game harder by putting me in a cot in a separate room. if we were in the same bed, i could just poke her too. or open her eyes. or drool on her face. or bite her lip. or her cheek or nose. ok, i confess - thats what i was doing last week when she gave up and just let me sleep in her bed cos she was going bananas. unfortunately for me that proved to be my undoing. it seems these things that are endearing during daytime hours are not so amusing at night.

**sigh**

so much to learn....give me a chance mummy...i'm only 1...

for now i reminisce about a time gone by. a time before mummy started work and wasn't too bothered whether i woke her up at 1 in the morning because we could sleep till 1 in the afternoon....

yes.... i remember this little outing to henley-on-thames to feed the ducks...

Back from the Abyss...

Ok guys - have you missed me...I have missed you. I know I've been a bit AWOL lately - but really it was beyond my control. Mummy has shipped me off to nursery! How rude right?! So there I was 6 weeks ago, minding my own business gathering dust particles under the sofa (mummy really needs to step up her cleaning standards) - when bam! I was picked up by mummy and whisked off for a 'taster' session at my new 'daytime' home. What? Taster what now? Hmm. I thought 'yeah I'll show you!'

that very week I had a tummy bug. Nice.

this is not a good time!

The following week mummy got all dressed up and I got very suspicious. I knew mummy likes to feel like some real housewife of royal Berkshire but this was taking it a bit far - it was Monday and 6:30am! I realised something was up when I wasn't getting the star treatment. Then she said the 'w' word! How dare she?! After all my sweetness the past 11 months she dared to step back into the world of high heels and fake smiles! I held onto her leg and pleaded with her not to go.

But I looked at the shoes she wore and realised I didn't stand a chance. Those are her 'don't stop me now!' shoes. Her 'I am woman, hear me roar!' shoes. Damn.

She left me screaming. By the time she reached the bottom of the stairs I'd moved on to singing my 1,2,3 song with baby tv. Just had to ensure that the guilt hung in he air around her. 6 weeks and 6 bugs - all ending with some kinda 'itis'- later, i am alive well and realising nursery has provided a whole new way of winding mummy up - like when I decided to leap into the arms of my nursery nanny as soon as we get there and give her the "what are u still doing here?" look. life is good people!

time sure does fly when you are having fun!! mummy says she can't believe i am 1 already...she doesn't know where the time went! she says it's like yesterday when she was holding this tiny little screaming person thinking 'this is not how they look in the movies!'. to be fair mummy says everything about labour is nothing like the movies! it's less glowing mum with sweet smelling baby and more.......well, i stopped listening....

can we focus on the here and now please?

right - so we had a party yesterday to celebrate & i had so much fun! it was book-themed so all my aunties & uncles got me books they enjoyed when they were younger! i woke mummy up at 6 this morning so we could update my blog...she was not amused!

mummy was starving late last night and decided to do one of the 2 things one shouldn't do when hungry: look at pictures of yummy food. the other one is grocery shopping. well, she looked at the pictures of the food they ate at my aunty's birthday. she stroked the camera and smiled at the food and pretended to eat it. she told me that when they were kids, she and her cousins would flick through my granny's food magazines and point at pictures and whoever said 'MINE!' first got to 'have' that meal. obviously, the meal didnt appear - it was just 'theirs' in word. apparently many a bust up proceeded when someone claimed they said 'MINE!' first. punches would fly. real ones....over imaginary food.

well..i made it perfectly clear that i had no interest in playing this game. all i wanted was my milk and bed. i left her to it. she muttered that she and her cousins weren't that bad..she heard a story of 2 brothers who were discussing what they'd do if they found a dollar on the floor whilst walking home from school. the issue go out of hand when one of the brothers said he wouldn't share it. the other said 'but i found it!' next thing they had a punch up and had to be separated - over a dollar that wasn't even there!

hmm...i think my mum's generation was deprived.

.....was my aunty's birthday! we had a fun day going into bridgetown for a bit of sightseeing (and shocking prices), and then everyone came back to the hotel to get ready for the birthday dinner at Champers restaurant. mummy had been planning my outfit for weeks...ok months...however she just wasn't buying anything. each time she went for something she felt she couldn't justify spending some of the amounts on those dresses she saw. this trip, mummy wanted to avoid too much buying of things that would not be used again - by either of us. she resisted buying herself a new outfit and made the most of what she had. for me - she found this little playsuit for £5.99 in the gap sale and it went perfectly with the little cardi we got in paris.

this time last week...

...i was on the beach in barbados! mummy and i had planned on updating you throughout our trip but alas, it never quite happened! for one mummy left the camera cable at home....

anyway - we went to barbados for my aunty funke's 40th birthday. there were 17 of us there and we had a fun time. i got to meet lots of my aunty's and uncles, and my granny was there too. i will share lots of pics with you once they have vetoed the ones that shouldn't go up - the vanity is in the bloodline! for now, here's mummy and I on the beach, enjoying the 28 degrees celsius heat!

after this we went for a spot of tennis, and mummy unleashed her inner 'Serena' much to the tennis balls' dismay. one by one she successfully launched each ball over the boundary fence, into an unsuspecting neighbour's back garden. lets just say she's sticking to fashion.

afterwards we went for a dip in the pool which was right outside our door! here i am giving mummy some tips on winning at tennis...

i'm mobile!

hey peeps! well, what a busy week it was for mummy and i! our diary was packed and i was loving watching aunty's come and go! but...the highlight of my week came on tuesday morning. after weeks of bum shuffling, doing the worm on the floor, and crawling backwards - i finally cracked it!

have you ever been in dat situation where you end up under the chair?? (sung to this tune!)

i crawled down the corridor in one triumphant go! from that point on i was unstoppable! i've been exploring every nook and cranny! i can even fit under mummy's bed! perfect hiding spot. i have been going around the house pointing out bits in need of urgent DIY attention to daddy. and just when mummy thinks she can't sweep the house anymore, i point out that she missed a spot. this is great! the best thing is when mummy says 'come!' and i go off in the opposite direction - because i can!

as you can see, i don't have to sit around - bye mum!

on the last day i decided it was time we went somewhere i wanted to go for a change. i tried telling mummy and daddy where to go but no matter how much i said it they just smiled back. i knew they didnt get it, so i decided to direct them.

paris day 6: the real hustle

saturday in paris and mummy was a woman with a plan. we were off first to a vintage shop called reciproque on rue de la pompe. once mummy established there were no bargains to be had in this legendary vintage emporium, we jumped on the metro and headed for le marche saint pierre. it turned out to be right next to le sacre couer - the famous church. the path leading up to it was lined up with hustlers getting people to guess which cup had a card hidden under it to win 50 euros. thankfully mummy and daddy had watched the real hustle and so they knew it was a trick. you had to bring out your own 50 euros in order to bet on the cup you wanted. it all looked so easy - double your money just by guessing! we'd never seen so many supposed 'ordinary passers by' who just happened to have 50 euro notes in their pockets. hmm. and they were all winning! and urging mummy to have a go. mummy laughed. they told us to move on. and so we left.

at the market, mummy picked up some fabric for some trousers she wants to sew. that was in a store called Reine. from there we jumped on the metro again and headed to the kookai discount store. mummy found a lovely linen jacket which she swiftly wore the next day!

Paris Day 5 - Let the sun shine, Let the sun shine!

once mummy had seen there were prices that could really make the eyes water, she decided to go back to the local mall and check out what we could get within our budget. we took our time and found some really great baby clothing shops. one thing we found is that baby clothes there are really well coordinated. little dresses come with hair bands/scarves and hair clips, little socks with fabric trim etc. over here, little boys clothes tend to come with a hat or sandals (check out next), but never girls clothes.

our favourite was one called 'obaibi' / 'okaidi' - click here for website. mummy bought lots of little clips and hair bands and even a swimsuit with matching hairband! the prices weren't bad for accessories. once we struck gold here, there was no stopping mummy - we kept finding more little shops. she even bought me a pair of sunglasses! the cardi i wear in the pics below was from vertbaudet - click here for website. as mum kept soaring higher and higher, one store made it their business to clip her wings: petit bateau - click here for website. Yummy clothes, not so yummy prices. 36 euro for a top?! what! did I mention that was from 36 euro...by the time we found my size, mummy's jaw was on the floor.

we had got what we needed anyway, so off we went with our mini-haul. later on we checked out of Renaissance Hotel and moved to Le Meridien in the centre of Paris - time for a weekend of fun!

Paris Day 4 - baby in the city

ok - i have been really bad at finishing off updating you on the paris trip. however i have had a lot going on. as you must by now be aware - i have 2 teeth, and more are coming through. mummy seems to forget from time to time but my loud screams soon reminded her!

so back to paris....

after a day of sitting around cursing the euro, mummy decided we needed to check out central paris. galleries lafayette to be exact. this was thursday - late night shopping. perfect! or so she thought...

for some reason mummy didn't quite realise that this place was the harrods/selfridges of paris. needless to say 5 minutes into our arrival there and we were pretty much done. daddy took one look at one of the price tags under the shoes and sat down.

we spent the next hour admiring the architecture of the building - it is stunning! mummy just stared at the ceiling for ages - that, and the people laden with shopping bags all around her. i've never seen her surrounded by shoes and staring elsewhere. we made it to the top floor where mummy's smile returned as she saw prices like 10 euro. it was for tourist tat, but she was happy again!

so in summary, if money is burning a hole in your pocket, go shopping at galleries lafayette. we saw people shopping in the like they were in primark so clearly you are out there! if you also love architecture and art, it is a beautiful building. if however, you are likely to want to throw a tomato at someone going 'hmm this is stressful...i love them both, maybe i'll take it in both colours' when talking about a 1000 euro shoe, don't go there.

paris day 2 & 3

ok day 2 swiftly came around...and this time mummy was determined to make it beyond the borders of the hotel. breakfast was done with swiftly and 'homes under the hammer' watched on BBC1 which was available in the hotel :). La Defense has 2 malls - much to mummy's delight! off we marched with gusto - well - mummy marched carrying me in the baby carrier. we made it downstairs and mummy realised she would pass out carrying me all day...so back upstairs we went.

take 2! i chilled in my 4x4 pram as she pushed....reminds me of 9 months ago..hmm.

anyhoo..mummy's senses were highly anticipating the joys that awaited within the mall.

WHAT A LET DOWN.

basically, we found every store we could find in the UK. the prices were horrific said mummy. as you know, she loves zara - over there goods that are £29.99 were euro 39.90 or sometimes 45 euro. mummy was quite distressed. we marched in and out of other stores and found the same issue. even with exchange rate considered that's ludicrous mummy said. boring. massimo dutti was the worst. mummy's obsessed with some shoes that are £89.90 - in paris they were 139 euro!! long and short of it - we bought nothing. and due to this distress mummy and i chilled elsewhere on day 3.

i finally got my hands on the e45 lotion! yes!

paris day 1!

i woke up to a knock at the door. i heard a man's voice who clearly wasn't my daddy......and mummy said he could come in! next thing i saw a tray piled with platters and yummy food! phew! that became a daily occurrence for the week. mummy was so happy to be able to eat 3 meals a day that she didn't have to cook, or clean up after!

mummy was super energised after that breakfast (yes, she finished all that!). she bathed me and dressed me and we had our photoshoot!

we only made it as far as the lobby on day 1! as i said in the previous entry, mummy didn't follow her instincts and just buy a cheap lightweight buggy. instead we dragged my mega-pram which was not underground friendly :(. we hung out in the lobby where we got free internet (7 euro/hour in the room!). i made 2 new friends from Iran :0).

mummy ended the day as she had begun - by eating herself into a stupor! here is her decadent 'opera cake' & cream.

daddy read me my peekaboo book whilst mummy attended to her rapidly increasing appetite!

and now i am off to get daddy to hold up that mirror at the back of the book again!

Bonjour Paris!

finally...i am able to update you on our fabulous trip to Paris! we did actually carry our geriatric laptop hoping to regularly update you from the comfort of our hotel room. did not quite happen. it needs to be recycled - asap! anyhoo....here we are!

so...mummy packed up everything but the kitchen sink! literally! when the driver arrived to pick us up his face said it all.

after he'd managed to squeeze 2 suitcases, my super-pram, 2 other bags and then us into his car, we set off for Eurostar! mummy was already exhausted by the time we got to st pancras station - just the thought of lugging all that stuff plus me was getting her anxious. daddy was not smiling at us at all.

as much as mummy had dreamt of sashaying through the station looking as carefree as Victoria Beckham does at LAX, it wasn't happening...for a start we didn't quite have 2 people to carry each bag for us.
