That means practitioner weaves all the methods and experiences on his path into his very own life. Tantra sublimates relative reality rather than negates it.

Generally, Tantra works by re-uniting of what in our relative dimension seems to be dually, separated, into one entity. Mostly it is expressed, both metaphorically and technically, as male and female elements.

Tantrics understand the sexual act on multiple levels. The male and female participants of the act are conjoined physically and represent Shiva and Shakti, the male and female principles.

Here, physical action leads to union on all possible levels.

Nowadays the Tantra is very often being misunderstood. People tend to take only outer side of the Tantra and then they miss all the inner meaning.

by Jana Dibbs

If you haven’t done yoga then you have no idea what you are missing out on. You can get great benefits from doing yoga, you just need to try it.

Don’t just go the gym right now to do yoga let me first give you six things that you need to look for in choosing good workout clothes for yoga.

The number one thing that you need to look for is how stretchy are the pants? If your pants don’t stretch than you won’t be able to stretch your own body.

Item number two is that you need to make sure that the pants you choose compliment your body well. You shouldn’t wear pants that show off areas of your body that should remain private. And at the same time you will need them to be tight enough to not fall off your body in certain positions.

Third, you want to find pants that will hide sweat a little bit. The obvious worst color for sweat is gray so you want to stay away from gray and other colors that will show too much sweat while you are working out.

Lesson number four is you have to like what you are in. If you feel uncomfortable the whole time then you won’t focus on relaxing. And let’s face it, the whole reason for yoga is to relax.

Fifth, you need to make sure that your pants are made of a material that will not be itchy to you. You can’t be focused on a material irritating your skin while doing yoga. I would recommend that you stick with a cotton or cotton mix material pant.

And finally sixth, you want to get a pair of pants that won’t make you sweat more than you have to. Not all styles of yoga require you to sweat to death. So, avoid the jogging pants and go for a material that will breathe easy. At the same time you don’t want to be able to see through them.

Getting rid of the painful symptoms of carpal tunnel is harder than you might think. Often the cause of your carpal tunnel lies within the work you do every day in order to make a living. Large amounts of people suffer from carpal tunnel syndrome due to the jobs they perform. Doing the same motion repeatedly with your hands will likely lead to carpal tunnel syndrome. You may experience numbness or pain in the hands and wrist as well as pain in the arm, shoulders and neck. The pain can be severe enough to prevent you from using your arm and hand for even simple tasks.

For many people, surgery becomes an instant option. After all, once the surgery is complete then there is nothing left to do right? Wrong! Even after surgery there is rehabilitation and the need to consider exercises that will keep the condition from returning! With that in mind, why not try some alternative, more natural ways to prevent and even cure carpal tunnel syndrome? It may seem unlikely right now, but over time you will begin to see the results.

What causes carpal tunnel syndrome? You need to know the reason behind this condition to make choices about how you decide to treat it. Carpal tunnel syndrome commonly occurs in the wrist area. Any activity that involves repetitive motion using your wrist such as a mouse, keyboard, or most any job that involves using the hands will cause the transverse carpal ligament to become tight. This ligament is the one that ties all the ligaments together in the wrist letting you have the strength you need to effectively use your hands.

As the transverse carpal ligament tightens, the other ligaments put pressure on the median nerve. When this nerve becomes agitated and compressed, it can cause numbness, lack of strength and even incredible pain in the hand, wrist, fingers and even the arm. This can make it impossible for those who rely on their wrists and arms to do their jobs.

Would it make you happy to know there are many physical therapy exercises you can do to alleviate the symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome? Yes, through a physical therapist or by looking online, you will see there are many stretches you can do to help stretch out the transverse carpal ligament, as well as other massage techniques you can have done that will keep the soft tissue of your hand in a relaxed state. This also alleviates the pressure on the median nerve and relieves a great deal of carpal tunnel pain.

The only other choice you have is surgery, which involves relieving the pressure on the median nerve by cutting the transverse carpal ligament. This surgery brings quick relief from the pressure on the nerve but it will take time to heal and is also quite expensive.

Only you can decide whether to have surgery or not. There are many things you can do right now to ensure you do not suffer the pain and discomfort of carpal tunnel syndrome. Try treating yourself with natural ways such as stretching and developing better work habits before you decide to have surgery.

Because of the nature of carpal tunnel surgery, CTS sufferers often find that AFTER the surgery, they actually have less hand strength and are unable to maintain a grip on objects. Most doctors agree that surgery is one of the last resorts in treating CTS, because CTS is caused by a strenuous, repetitive motion.

by Tom Nicholson

At some point but you may not have thought it would be something you suffered from. There are many things that can cause it, poor posture and overuse at the keyword is one of them. Initially, you will feel pain, but as the condition progresses, you may also feel weak and numbness. While your doctor wants you to think about surgery, you may not be sure about this just yet.

You should think very hard before having surgery for carpal tunnel syndrome. The fact is that many people suffer from carpal tunnel syndrome but have found alternative methods of relieve rather than resort to surgery. Surgery can solve the problem quickly, but is it as long lasting as you need it to be? Is it even in your price range?

Repetitive action is the main culprit here. That may come from throwing a ball too often or typing too much or any job that requires you to use your wrists in the same way over and over again. Because you are repeating the motion so many times, this causes the tightening of the transverse carpal ligament. This ligament has the job of holding all the ligaments in this region of your wrist in place.

Sometimes, the hands and wrists feel weak and unable to be used properly. The pain can run through the hand and up the arm. Even your fingers may feel it. The more times you repeat the actions, the more pressure is placed on the ligaments and nerves. Over time, it becomes harder to do the same motions.

While the surgical procedure designed to relieve carpal tunnel syndrome is not difficult it is invasive. The relief comes from the severing of the transverse carpal ligament. While this is not a problem, initially, over time it leads to weakness in the arms and later the hands. It does relieve the pain of carpal tunnel syndrome rather quickly though.

Aside from problems later on down the road, having this surgery requires at least 6 weeks of therapy and healing for the transverse carpal ligament. It isn’t a fun recovery, and the outcome is completely unknown. For these reasons alone you might consider some alternative techniques to relieving your carpal tunnel pain.

Through stretching and exercise, you can essentially lessen or completely mitigate the effects of carpal tunnel. By stretching the transverse carpal ligament, you can ensure that the median nerve will have no lingering exposure to pressure. Good posture and taking a few breaks from the repetitive tasks can also be a big help. Besides that, surgery can cost upwards of $10,000, and who has that kind of money when you can do stretches for free?

For some, these treatment options will not be enough and surgery for carpal tunnel syndrome will be inevitable. With the aid of second opinions and a fully understanding of what you will encounter, most people can make the right decision for them. Utilize a physical therapist beforehand, to avoid surgery if at all possible.

Applied to a regular work cubicle feng shui design could bring a positive switch into your life: there may be a better salary, a healthier body and a more rewarding personal life.

Thence, focusing a good energy flow in the entrance area is important for the success of your business; this is the place where the energy enters the cubicle like a sanctuary and changes the visitor’s perception in a good way. The work surfaces are just as crucial as windows, entrance and corners for the optimal cubicle feng shui design. Currently, cubicle feng shui redecorations have gained an unbelievable popularity in the United States and the Western countries in general. The clutter reduction is not positive only from a psychological point of view, as it also improves the flow of vital energy in the space. Therefore, the first impression one makes when entering your office will influence the business relationship in every way.

There will still be challenges and ups and downs to experience at work or at home, you just have to learn the lesson and move on as harmoniously as possible. Such achievements may seem far-fetched but they are the sheer and real consequence of the ancient art of energy-drawing space arrangement. Then, there comes color, an aspect that should not be overlooked in the cubicle feng shui decorating. Such aspects of cubicle feng shui design make the efficiency of work increase significantly with minimal effort. Though it may sound incredible to someone new to the principles of feng shui, the very location of the waste basket and the position of the lighting fixtures have a word to say in how harmonious and fulfilled you are professionally and personally.

Feng shui practitioners will often indicate the fact that a cluttered cubicle only makes you look for things more, and thus lose tons of precious time. Cubicle feng shui design eliminates the clutter, creates more room and lets you breathe freely while allowing you to enjoy the hours you spend at work. For business meetings and deals, feng shui could be ruining or enriching, depending on whether you benefit from the advantages of cubicle feng shui arrangement or not. Yet, do not consider the art of stimulating the natural chi in the environment as a cure-all or solve-all solution. Creativity also needs to be stimulated and you can achieve this by including some vibrant spot of color on the desk, on the walls or in a corner you lay the eyes on when working.

You may consult a cubicle feng shui manual or book in order to see how to integrate plants in the decorum too. Choose colors that bring harmony and a feeling of relaxation so that you may be able to work productively and efficiently.

by John Reed, RMT

Boom town Calgary, Alberta has kept me busy for more than a decade. Closing in on 20 000 hours delving in the tissues, of thousands of clientele, have revealed much about how we hold tension, how our posture changes, and what keeps our muscular system from freedom of pain and restriction, having balance and maintaining fluid movement.

There are many factors that lead to pain and discomfort. One obvious cause, and one that everyone attempts to manage, is stress. We all have it. We find ways to adapt, deal with or just plain avoid stress! Whether it is psychological or physical, stress finds its way into our lives from many sources. I mention stress because it affects everything else. Every contributor to postural imbalance is only made worse by stress.

Our predominate postures greatly affect how we feel, move, and cope with life. The greatest determinate of our posture, is our most habitual postures. This may sound vague, so let me zero in on the three habitual patterns which have the most impact on our postural reality.

There is nothing you do more each day than standing, sitting, and sleeping!

How you do all three of these things will have the greatest impact on what your postural reality is. Not even the bumps and bruises you receive along the way, the falls and accidents you might have, nor your genetic makeup has as great an impact as the three things you spend the most time doing. There’s barely an hour of the day not spent doing one of those three things! How do you sit? How do you stand? What position do you tend to maintain most while trying to get those 6-8 hours of sleep every night?

Most Massage Therapists’ clients have occupations that require them sit for many hours every day! This may not seem to be significant, but upon closer examination, we can see how this can add up. Even 4 hours a day, leads to 20 hours a week. That becomes close to 1000 hours a year seated…just at work! How many hours do you sit in the car, surfing the couch, at the kitchen table, or sitting in coffee shops, and restaurants? Obviously we could say another 1000 hours and still not be accounting for the countless hours spent in this postural altering position!

Two major muscle groups are held in a shortened position while you sit. The major hip flexors, the Psoas, and Rectus Femoris, are greatly shortened while seated. The former of the two attaches to the anterior (front) side of your lumbar vertebrae. After spending long periods of time in a shortened position, the Psoas becomes shorter and tighter. The problem with the hip flexors being tight is that they pull the lumbar vertebrae forward. This is a classic reason why many people experience low back pain.

Having your knees bent at 90 degrees, for countless yearly hours of sitting, also tends to lead to incredibly tight hamstrings! No wonder as we age it gets to harder to touch our toes! Sitting is also hardly kind to our neck and shoulders.

People seek massage therapy to address the muscular imbalances developed from sitting daily at their computer. Having their hands in front of them on a keyboard, often with one hand outstretched onto a mouse, while their head progressively lurches forward toward the monitor, leads to structural changes, which for a low impact occupation, have quite the big impact on how we feel.

Another posture we do more than any other is standing. Each of us have a very unique standing posture. We rarely bring our conscious awareness to how we do this simple thing, but we can clearly identify some habitual aspects to how we maintain this dominantly held posture.

Simply glancing down at your feet periodically, without adjusting yourself to some ideal pose, reveals what is likely a reoccurring theme. Are your feet consistently in a similar position every time you look down? Is one always out in front? Is one always rotated in the same direction? These consistencies reveal muscular holding patterns that are having their way with your skeletal structure. You may notice the bodies desire to shift weight more to one side. This too relates to certain muscle being held in more contracted states, than their opposites. Massage therapy looks to reveal the imbalances within our muscle groups and restore it.

Every muscle in our body has an opposite. If one has to contract, its opposite must relax. Our bodies function optimally, when our muscles are balanced in length, strength, and flexibility. When a muscle and its opposite are out of balance, we have less pain-free, fluid, dynamic movement and function.

Massage Therapists’ assist in revealing our habitual patterns that contribute to the postural distortions. By introducing opposition to our habitual postures, we can begin to bring awareness to the balance that lies between the two. Here, freedom from our discomfort and postural strain awaits us. Unfortunately, sleep is not an escape from postural strain.

Sleep is a very habitual act as well. Do you tend to sleep on the same side of the bed every night? Would you or your partner be keen to switch side of the bed? Likely not. Why? Because we are habitual beings. We do things quite habitually, and we move in habitual ways. Even our sleep is done in a very habitual way. Some people sleep on their tummy side every night. Their habit, has them rotating their neck to one side more than the other while being laterally bent to rest on a pillow, for many hours a night.

Did I mention six to eight hours? So maybe side sleeping is better for the neck? Maybe, but what is happening to your shoulder against the mattress? What are your legs doing? Is the bottom one straight while the top one is bent at the knee and the hip? How will that long held position distort your proper anatomical standing position? The body tends to adapt to its own sense of what normal standing is based on what the body wants to do. It wants to move into the position it spends the most time in. Your every instinct, understanding, and programmed sense of what normal standing is, competes with predominantly held postures. This is perceived as strain.

Your Massage Therapist will focus intently on those muscles that are strongly pulling you out of balance. Once these muscle have tension released, your body will begin to experience the fluidity of your new range of motion. You will be taught to move daily into ranges and stretches which oppose your habitual patterns, and encourage an ongoing state of balance. With a little assistance form your Massage Therapist, you will begin to discover how your habitual postures affect all of your postures. Through massage therapy you will encounter new ways to help bring conscious awareness and balance to your body.

Millions of people all around the world are practicing yoga these days. They range from the lady next door and go right up to well known public figures and celebrities. If you are wondering what is the reason for the new-found popularity of yoga then let me explain some of the main benefits that the regular practice of yoga can bring to you.

Before I get into the most important reasons for practicing yoga, it would be good to have a basic overview of yoga itself. Yoga was developed in India several thousand years ago and it is a system of physical, mental and spiritual development. It consists of physical postures, deep relaxation techniques and meditation exercises. These days the physical postures (called “asanas”) are the most widely practiced form of yoga and you can learn them in studios and clubs around the world.

Now that you have a basic overview of yoga, let’s look at why you should think about beginning the practice of yoga.

1. Yoga is a key to improved physical well being. Usually this is what most people want when they sign up for a yoga course, and yoga is indeed efficient in helping people on the physical level. The various yoga postures, when combined with a proper diet and other exercise, can help you to reach high level of health, fitness and vitality. The key to this is in the digestive system where yoga postures can help you to overcome acidity, constipation and indigestion, thus preventing the many illnesses that have their root in the digestive tract. Furthermore, when yoga postures are combined with deep relaxation and meditation they help to lower blood pressure, and this becomes especially important as you grow older and become more susceptible to heart disease.

2. Yoga can help you to look better. It is common knowledge that a lot of people practice yoga in order to lose weight and look more attractive. Can yoga really be of help in this? Simply put, outer beauty is but an indication of inner health. If you take steps to improve your health, you will look better. The biological explanation of “beauty” is useful here. According to modern biology, animals (and humans) choose partners who appear to be able to produce offspring and successfully spread their genes. A beautiful appearance here means an appearance that is a sign of inner health and vitality. You may not be thinking about spreading genes when you see a beautiful man or woman but this is where our conceptions of beauty originate according to the biologists. Thus, the ability of yoga to make you feel better and have better overall health, will also give you an outer appearance that is more pleasing to everyone around you.

3. Yoga is a great way to manage stress

By practicing yoga postures and augmenting them with some relaxation and meditation you can attain a state of inner mental peace that will keep you calm in even the most challenging situations.

There’s a lot more that can be said about yoga, but the three aspects that I have described are probably enticing enough for you to at least inquire more and possibly to begin your own personal practice of yoga as soon as possible.

If you work near a computer and spend most of the day pounding the keyboard, it can take its toll on carpal tunnel. Since it is one of the biggest reasons individuals find themselves contracting this syndrome, you have to take the appropriate steps to prevent or heal the problem. If you don’t, you’ll wind up experiencing extreme pain which will hurt your work performance. In order to keep this from happening, we wanted to help you integrate yoga into your daily carpal tunnel exercises. The end result will allow you the focus needed to control the issue.

So how exactly does carpal tunnel exercises using yoga work?

Physical Healing with Yoga

Our society is built around traditional medicine, various surgeries, and different casts or splints to repair carpal tunnel. So whenever the pain comes along, the place we go is usually the doctor. However, you don’t have to do this anymore. Yoga exercises have become a long term solution to all the previous temporary versions.

Strengthening the body is the better way to treat carpal tunnel syndrome instead of surgical intrusions into the body or ingesting chemicals. Yoga exercises do this by slowly but surely applying a little strain on the muscles and ligaments of the body, strengthening them and making them more resistant to wear and tear.

This is due to increasing the flexibility of your muscles, stretching them to new heights and stimulating the responsible nerve. You will know that this is working the first time you realize it is alleviating many of those painful symptoms you endure throughout the day. Plus, these carpal tunnel exercises are free, which is much better than spending thousands of dollars on surgery.

Mental Healing

The body is not the only thing that is healed with yoga exercises, the mind is also given the appropriate relaxation it needs when an individual undergoes the various exercises and positions that make up yoga exercises.

The mind and the body are intricately connected in more ways than one. Psychologists study this connection in a scientifically empirical manner, while priests study this in a religious and spiritual manner. However, both approaches are just two sides of the same coin. They both acknowledge that the mind’s condition has a powerful effect on the body, and vice-versa.

Carpal tunnel exercises using yoga addresses both physical and mental healing, making yoga so effective in the healing process. A stressed and conflicted mind makes problems worse; just look at the difference between cancer patients who survive by being strong and cancer patients who die because they gave up on life. By helping people clear their minds, yoga allows people to cope with the daily stressors that exacerbate problems like carpal tunnel syndrome, giving them the emotional and mental strength required to ease the body’s pain.

The Bottom Line

For years professionals have been talking highly of yoga exercises for carpal tunnel. Being able to recover without adding chemicals to the body is what makes yoga a healthy, valid and effective method to eliminate the suffering you have with carpal tunnel.

Take this information to heart, and if you know someone with CTS then pass it along. When you are able to build a stronger body and mind you’ll realize a solution is in sight. When this happens, it may just be the happiest day of your life.

Yoga has become a trendy fad all around the world. Everyone from famous movie stars to your next door neighbor is starting to practice yoga. In case you have never tried it and are curious, I would like to explain how yoga might be of benefit to you.

Prior to discussing the reasons for practicing yoga, it is useful to know something about the nature and origins of yoga. The practice of yoga originated in India several thousand years ago. Yoga is a comprehensive system of exercises and its goal is physical, mental and spiritual well-being. The main components of yoga are physical postures, relaxation techniques and meditation exercises. Today it is the physical aspect, the physical postures known as “asanas” that is the most popularly practiced form of yoga and you can find it taught in gyms, health clubs and studios all around the world.

Now that you have a basic overview of yoga, let’s look at why you should think about beginning the practice of yoga.

1. Yoga will help you to become very healthy. This is what people are generally looking for when they begin the practice of yoga, and yoga does the job of improving physical health. If you combine a practice of yoga postures along with a sensible diet and other physical exercise then you can reach very high levels of health and fitness. One of the reasons for this is that yoga can help you to improve the functioning of your digestive system, and prevent acidity, indigestion, constipation and other more serious problems that have their root in the digestive system. Yoga postures (when combined with relaxation and meditation) have the additional benefit of helping to control blood pressure, and this is a great asset as you grow older and become more susceptible to heart disease.

2. Yoga will improve your physical appearance. It is no secret that many people practice yoga in order to slim down and look better. Is yoga really effective for this purpose? The simple answer is that if you can improve your physical health then you will certainly look better. Ask a biologist to explain the evolutionary importance of “beauty” and he or she will tell you that living creatures generally choose partners who appear to give them a good chance to spread their genes and produce healthy offspring. You may not be thinking about this when you see a beautiful woman or a handsome man but the glowing skin and attractive figure that you see is the outer signal of inner health. That’s why the health benefits of yoga will help you to not only feel better, but to be more attractive to those around you.

3. Yoga is a great way to manage stress

As our civilization gets more complex, it also becomes a more stressful place to live. The reason for this goes back to our primitive ancestors. When they were threatened by the dangers of the environment, their bodies started to pump blood and hormones started to work so that they would be ready to either fight with all their might or run as fast as they could. We have inherited the same biological system but this is often very troublesome for us. If you are fighting or running it doesn’t matter if you turn red or sweat profusely. This kind of “fight or flight” response is not so useful when the danger that confronts you is a hostile boss at work! If you practice yoga postures and supplement them with deep relaxation and meditation you can attain a state of inner mental balance and peace that will enable you to remain calm even in the face of extreme provocations and stress.

There are many more things that I can say about the benefits of yoga, but these three should be incentive enough for you to check it out and maybe to start practicing today.

Many people who are suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome first imagine that the only way they can get relief is through surgery. For those who have spent days or hours stuck behind a computer trying to plug away at their projects, dealing with the numbness and pain associated with carpal tunnel syndrome, this is not a pleasant sounding option. But it’s not only office workers who are considering surgery as an option. It is construction workers, painters and many other types of workers as well.

If the person uses their hands and wrists in the same particular way on a daily basis for most of each day they might suffer from this syndrome. If, like so many people, they also do not maintain the proper posture and/or technique they will aggravate the situation further. The individual, who spends his or her days hunched over their computer keyboard and never takes a break to even give their hands and wrists a good stretch, is courting with trouble. Unfortunately for them that trouble could turn into carpal tunnel syndrome.

To understand carpal tunnel syndrome, you need to understand the physiology of the syndrome. Carpal tunnel syndrome, quite simply, is the tightening of the wrist that compresses the median nerve and causes all of the typical symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome. It can be a debilitating and sometimes excruciating condition that requires some sort of intervention to repair.

While there are many types of intervention, surgery is one option for those who wish to be rid of the pain of carpal tunnel syndrome. Carpal tunnel surgery is usually done under “twilight anesthesia”, a somewhat reduces form of anesthesia. The surgery itself involves cutting the transverse carpal ligament to relieve ongoing damage to the nerves. The transverse carpal ligament is a ligament at the wrist that wraps around all the other ligaments running vertically along the arm. The idea is that cutting this ever tightening ligament will immediately reduce pressure on the other ligaments. The transverse carpal ligament will then “scar” together while leaving more room for the other ligaments.

Of course no surgery is risk free and some patients are left with much weaker wrists afterwards. Also, there is a possibility of other nerves and tendons in the area being damaged during the operation. All things considered surgery really should only be the last possible option. To make matters even worse, the patient can expect weeks of recovery after the surgery that can cost as much as ten thousand dollars.

Better solutions recommended by most therapists are to create an environment that is ergonomically sound. Also, use proper posture and technique so that the strain of your job is not limited to your wrists. Stretching of the wrists and taking breaks every now and again is also a great way to relieve that pressure. You can even have hand and wrist massages done that will greatly loosed the soft tissue in the hands and should prevent carpal tunnel syndrome. With all of these options available, it seems amazing that any one would choose surgery first.

It is important that your first priority is to have healthy habits. With that in mind make sure that you are properly informed about carpal tunnel syndrome so that you can make an informed decision.
