One of the coolest things about the iPhone 4 is its new fancied accelerometers and gyros and other super awesome things. That means as you move the phone around, apps can actually tell what you’re doing 100%. Kinda creepy.

But it works great for Eliminate:Gun Range. As you pan and tilt and move your phone, the scene through the window of the screen changes just like a real location. And then you shoot targets. It’s damn fun, and proof positive that this kind of motion-sensor-style gaming has come of age.

I would like a little more story, and it would be great if someone would make this a real shoot-em-up game with people instead of targets and lots of different locales instead of the few presented here. Still, this is a great first step toward motion-based shoot-em-ups, and it’s well worth its $0.99 price tag.

Gameloft is at it again with a new entry into their great “Let’s Golf” franchise. The graphics are amazing, there are tons of new options, and we have lots of multiplayer mode.

The courses are varied, and the entire gameplay experience is lighthearted, simple and fun. This one comes highly recommended if you’re a golf fan. Even if it’s only in the virtual world of the iPhone.

Cloud storage has felt, to me, like a load of hooey.  Things never seemed to sync as seamlessly as I wanted, there were long and cumbersome upload and download processes and the whole thing was too much trouble than it was worth.

Wait.  Nevermind.  Dropbox is here.  And with it comes truly seamless syncing between devices, background uploads/downloads, drag-and-drop file sharing and even public folders and automatic link generators…meaning I can share a file with people who don’t even have Dropbox.

And with Dropbox’s free iPhone app, I can now get all my documents right on my phone.  It’s pretty damn cool.

I’ll keep this brief. If you’ve ever wanted to manipulate the limbs of an almost-naked, well-endowed anime-eyed cartoon character, this one’s for you.

Why is “Alice” so sexually dressed as she falls down the rabbit hole? Why is her chest so large and prominent? We don’t know, and I guess we don’t care. Here are developers who know their target audience.

Beyond all that, though, this game is kinda fun. And it’s definitely worth taking a look at.

Don’t you just hate applications with unnecessarily long titles.  It’s like the app is too happy with itself to just go for the honest-to-God basics.  Or the company who makes it just doesn’t really care.

I tend to think the latter is the case with “Alice in Wonderland – An Adventure Beyond the Mirror,” Disney’s latest effort to create a synergistic marketing machine using the iPhone in conjunction with the recently released Tim Burton film “Alice in Wonderland.”  This game, from what I can see, plays mostly like a commercial for the movie, and badly so.  There is very little effort put into graphics or controls, and the game seems simple and lackluster…an excuse to throw in everyone’s favorite characters to remind them how much they want to buy the DVD.  I hate this kind of thing.  Come on…you’re Disney.  Show a little class.

I’ve never been a creepy guy. Or so I’d like to think. I’m a pretty upstanding, normal citizen.

But when it comes to this app and its capabilities, it’s difficult to not feel like a bit of a creeper. Spying on people is always a little odd, but by offering an exclusive “beaches” section…well, let’s just say this app knows its audience.

That being said, it’s friggin’ cool. The ability to control certain cams is futuristic big-brother stuff, and I can’t help but geek out on the fun global nature of the cam network.

I remember when the iPhone first came out. They were presenting all the apps on the phone, and when my good friend Steve got to “weather,” the world opened up for me.

I realized I’d be able to one-click check weather on my iPhone any time I wanted. Unfortunately, though, Apple’s bundled app left much to be desired. Lucky for us, then, that there is a plethora of other apps that provide the same service, but rock out. And Weather HD fits into that category. Not because it has a ridiculous number of features, but because it is well designed with some breathtaking animations.

We’ve done a lot of arguing amongst ourselves about which app is the best GPS app available on the iPhone. In the end, there were two: CoPilot and Mobile Navigator.

When it comes down to it, though, CoPilot edges out the other excellent program. Because while Mobile Navigator is awesome looking with great graphics and topography, CoPilot is just a lot faster and easier to use.

In the end, though, it probably comes down to personal taste.

Who doesn’t love the blocky images that came out of the world of 80′s computers and video games?  Problem is there is very little call to revisit this awesome graphical style in a new way.  Enter FixPix.

It’s a great puzzle game that takes advantage of the iPhone’s tilt sensors to challenge players to align old-school 8-bit images.  It starts off easy enough but gets harder and harder, providing lots of fun and head-scratching puzzles.  If I could change one thing, I’d add some menus and make the app a little more navigable…maybe a way to look at puzzles you’ve already solved.  But this one is brand new to the iTunes store…there’s plenty of time for improvement.

All right…this is super cool. For the first time, a game is taking advantage of the iPhone and iPad together in an attempt to make a full-fledged gaming experience, and the result is super fun.

We say we’re addicted to games a lot around here, but that doesn’t make it any less true. And Tower Defense EVO is my newest drug of choice.

Which is odd, because usually I’m not a fan of tower defense games. They are often overly complicated and take a long time to learn with numerous bells and whistles and so many weapons and strategies that your brain just gives up. What I most love about Tower Defense EVO, then, is that it is still very strongly strategy based but severely limits the type and number of weapons. Just build, and upgrade…a simple concept to learn, but a difficult one to master. And it provides hours of addicting entertainment for just $0.99.

This game is everywhere. Every device that ever gets made will have Pac-Man on it. Which is fine…we here at TapCritic love Pac-Man.

But if you’re going to release a graphics-lite thirty-year-old game on a new device, make it cheap. I’m pretty sure you’ve made a tidy little profit, so isn’t it time to give back just a bit?

To answer my own question: probably not. But this app, which streams every ABC television show to your iPad, is a good indicator of how video delivery is branching out to online and mobile devices in a very tangible and real way.

Sure, streaming video has been around for a while, but with services like Netflix and Hulu making serious strides forward, I think we’re going to see the delivery of streaming video take over our lives in the next few years. Looks like ABC is trying to get a leg up.

I’ve been waiting for an application like this for quite a while. What does it do? Simply put, it allows you to stream movies from your computer to your iPhone or iPod Touch over wi-fi. Out and about without a wi-fi connection? No worries…the app will stream to an iPhone via 3G. Check out how it works below.

Safari has, for a long time, had a pretty strong monopoly on the world of iPhone internet browsing. Sure there were competing apps, but none of them ever really took off.

Atomic Web, however, has a serious shot at taking some of Safari’s market share away. What’s so special about this little iPad application? In a word: tabs.

Everyone has talked about the iPad’s ability to up the ante on eBook readers, and I couldn’t agree more. But the device can also do things with books that Kindle and Nook have only dreamed of.

The Cat in the Hat is a great example of what I’m talking about. Using the book’s original text and artwork, the app allows users to enjoy the original Seuss book by reading alone or reading along with a narrator. Plus with interactive images, read along highlighting and simple animation, this app has the potential to actually teach kids as they’re being entertained. What a noble concept.

Sometimes an app’s name says it all, and Good Reader definitely lives up to its modest title.

From PDFs to HTML files and quite a few formats in between, Good Reader helps bridge the gap between your iPad and your laptop by allowing you to store and browse your favorite and most important documents easily. This is a great example of how creative app development can help compensate for some of the shortcomings of the iPad OS.

There have been some really crappy pool applications on the iPhone. In general, the screen real estate really limited what developers could do with the concept.

Enter Pro Pool Online 3, a great app for the iPad that really does its homework on how to make a digital version of pool work. Plus it’s got a great online mode which allows you to play against people across the globe.
