I agree with you Anton. My friends and I were ready to make a great day out of the Guild Fest. We even took a cab down to the area just so we could all tip all the tasters we could fancy. By the time we got there, we stood in the shortest line for a beer (this is after we learned the secret of not standing in the huge line to get it- that didn't say prepaid or pay at the door). We got some tasters and looked at all the other HUGE ass lines. We decided to get some food - There were not as many food vendors as promised and not a lot of vegetarian options. Sooo ....We all spent $35 a pop on a ticket and decided to leave the money on the table ...as we walked out of the "Guild", grabbed a beer down the street (at 50/50- don't get me started on how my friend had to explain to the server that she could see through her porter so it wasn't really a porter)...

We got the heck out of NTC and went to OB for a great night with old friends, and new ones made from Washington State...over a couple beers and slices of pizza in a pub - the way beer drinking SHOULD be. Not standing in long ass lines and trying to look cool. Damn it San Diego. Get it together.

BTW, if you want to experience a killer beer festival- I do recommend the Brewer's Fest in Portland.

Guild Fest has outgrown itself and the capacity. Even the VIP session was very crowded and a pain in the ass. When they let all the people in at 1pm, by 2pm you did not know where the lines began and ended! VERY POOR planning. Need more beer booths spread out. There was pletty of unused room. Don't get me started on the restroom to people ratio. I left early so I could get to the bar, so I could actually get beer.

I would sincerely like to see San Diego's Beer week turn into something like GABF. But San Diego is much more of an "ADHD" city compared to Denver. San Diego has hundred's of different events going on within a 20 mile radius at any time of the month. The people and businesses of San Diego don't seem to have the attention span to give this event the boost it needs. Every year I attend beer week, there's always a bunch of restaurants or bars that don't have anything they listed on the official events page. Sure, there are others that throw there all into it, but I haven't found that to be the majority of participants. GABF is one of Denver's biggest tourist draws and those businesses make damn sure their ready and have everything they promised. To have this event gain momentum, the participants need to be solid with what they promise and I think they need to market to a larger audience beyond San Diego. Which raises the question...Do we want this to be an exclusive event that showcases only local businesses and brews, or more of a national thing...which national participation?

Great idea Ryan. Considering funding comes from the TMD (tourism marketing district) via hotels;)

I would like to see a lot more hotels jumping on the bandwagon, and not just for SDBW. Having a craft beer-savvy concierge will always help the hapless tourist. And I too would like to see those bike stations installed. That's a money-maker year round.
