Diploma in Nutritional Science

The focus on nutrition in the western world has heightened in recent years with such trends as escalating obesity and diabetes rates. There has been an enormous amount of research to show that diet has an integral part to play in the prevention and treatment of a large number of common illnesses. As the old saying goes, You are what you eat. This simple statement could not better sum up the fact that the tissues that make up our bodies are built on the foods that we put in the supermarket trolley.

This course is New Zealands first fully distance education Diploma in Nutrition, and is offered to students who wish to become clinical nutritionists. The programme is designed to provide a sound working knowledge and the skills to become employed in a wide variety of roles or as an autonomous practitioner.

Key areas of study include nutritional science and clinical practice, covering macro and micro nutrients, digestion and metabolism, theoretical approaches to nutrition, nutritional biochemistry, medical sciences, and professional development.

The topic and content of modules within the Diploma in Nutritional Science may be subject to change as the College deems necessary thus allowing continuation of improvement to our curriculum.

Diploma of Naturopathy

Naturopathy is not a therapy but a philosophy of health, combining vitalistic principles with biological sciences. All civilisations have used natural means to assist the bodys natural healing processes. Naturopathic medicine today draws on these ancient understandings and integrates it with modern day scientific knowledge. The scope of practice of Naturopaths includes a large range of healing modalities such as nutrition, homeopathy, herbal medicine, hydrotherapy, body work and stress management techniques.

The central approach is always to address the underlying causes of disease and to treat the person not their symptoms. The focus is to facilitate and promote the bodys self-healing mechanisms, restoring harmony in the mind, body and spirit.

Coach Or Referee?

Coaching or Refereeing Employees- What is the difference?
For Team Leaders, Supervisors, Managers.
Coaching is smart managing and a leadership skill. Good coaching will help employees reach certain performance levels. As they succeed and achieve their confidence grows which leads to high levels of motivation and performance in many tasks.

Effective coaching moves an employee from WIIFM (whats in it for me?) to WIIFU (Whats in it for us?).

A coach thinks and acts pro-actively. A referee sets the standards and monitors them, but is also often having to act reactively i.e. after the event. There will always be a need in the workplace to referee however with effective coaching, unsatisfactory or unacceptable performance can be prevented and / or minimized.
