Due to the success of our last year exhibition at The Bernard Shaw pub we were kindly invited by Cultúrlann – a friendly drop-in space in the heart of the Gaeltacht Quarter (Falls Road) where you can engage with locals and experience the Irish culture through many perspectives such as language, art and music.

A refurbished church houses the Cultúrlann, but there’s also a very beautiful and modern adjacent gallery in which our works are displayed.

People at Cultúrlann are very friendly and fluent in both Irish and English.

Inside you’ll find a small library with publications suitable for different ages and interests and in both languages. There’s also a small gift shop with t-shirts, cards, candles and even jewelry.

On the right-hand side there’s a great and cozy café with affordable and tasty options (sandwiches with chips and a small salad cost around £6).

We are truly honoured to exhibit in a place that is so important to the Irish culture. And now, for those who are curious about the exhibition, please see the images of the gallery below:

The works we chose to exhibit at Cultúrlann were selected from the projects we developed in 2011, based on quotations by famous painters, poets and artists.

Above, beside the introduction posters, is the work of the adorable Sarah Tobin and below, the illustrations from the talented Paula McGloin.

Our exhibition has reached out to many people including by BBC Radio Ulster. Jessica, Austin, Caomhán and myself were interviewed by them and the interview will be on air TONIGHT between 7.30pm and 8.30pm (0 GMT)

We also grasped the attention of TG4, a national Irish broadcaster. A couple of weeks ago Caomhán and myself were filmed and interviewed by Christian Rosenstock from TG4 for a special feature at IMEALL, TG4′s cultural show on interesting Irish cultural attractions.

Four artists – Kevin Bohan, Fink, Aga Szot and Tarsila Krüse – were kindly invited to paint a traffic light box each around the Temple Bar area.

We prepared the boxes (thanks a million Kev!) and set ourselves to the challenge!

I was assigned the traffic light box on the junction of Fishamble Street and Lord Edward Street, just outside the Christ Church Cathedral.

It is such a premium location! The area was where vikings had their first settlements in Ireland and to honor that heritage I decided to add a friendly chap to the neighborhood.

My Viking was completely hand painted and took a whole week to complete (under rain and wind which led to a strong cold), but hey, totally worth it! Look at these faces!

The result was very welcome and appreciated by many passers-by including locals from every economic background, foreigners, students, tourists…Many took pictures!

Please see the images from Stephen O’Leary, Carolina Bornholdt and Go Car Dublin. Gareth Hacking from Manchester kindly also featured my Viking on his blog! Overall everybody was very very friendly.

The project even caught the attention of the Dublin City Council which now intends to implement a similar project throughout the city and let’s hope Dublin can become even a more beautiful and fair city.

My happy viking is still there in good shape for everyone to just open up a smile to him.

One of the projects we’ve done together as a collective is part of a project called The Icon Walk, created by the artist cooperative The Icon Factory.

The wonderful people in the Icon Factory gave us the opportunity to show our talent, promote local art and enhance the Irish culture through this great permanent open-air exhibition on Irish culture.

There are posters of famous Irishmen (and women) printed through the back and less-explored lanes in the Temple Bar area, showing that Ireland is not only made of famous writers, but actors, directors, visual artists, sportsmen and much more.

The Blind Elephants (including myself) happily contributed and designed the Irish films and actors/actresses posters on Bedford Lane.
