Six Crookers Toonz

2011-01-07T14:47:00.000-08:00

I know Crookers may be pretty 2 years ago, but it's still good to bang in the club! Here's a few of my personal faves.

Vic Mensa

2011-01-06T16:20:00.000-08:00

Meet Vic Mensa. A 17 year old Chicago native that is doing what he can to keep hip-hop alive and breathing. It's funny how artists with no talent, such as Souljah Boy, make it big when they are polluting what little remains of hip-hop. People have forgotten what hip-hop is, but luckily, there is a generation of young underground rappers trying to revive it. What we need is more artists like Vic Mensa: artists with passion and potential that are much more talented and real than the fake artists you are brainwashed by on MTV. Bottom line is, we need more good rappers that make good music (with meaningfull lyrics) for the love of it, not the money. Souljah Boy may get money from his stupid dances, but he's got no love for the music (or the dance). What I want, is to see talented rappers out there working hard, doing what they love and earning fame through it, such as Vic Mensa.

Chicago stand the fuck up.

Mr. Oizo - Lars Von Sen (X-Mas Version)

2011-01-03T09:30:00.000-08:00

Interesting track from Monsiuer Oizo. Starts off sounding something like J-Dilla and progresses with snare and bassdrum hits that'll make your head bop.

Ahhhh. Sunday morning/afternoon. Inside the warmth of my apartment, by a bacon egg and cheese sandwich and a blueberry scone. Waking up to the enchanting sounds of the rasta dub. Heres a couple reggae influenced dubstep tracks. Happy skanking.

Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty

2010-12-31T19:30:00.000-08:00

Big Boi's newest release, Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty, is bangin! Guest artists T.I., Gucci Mane, Jamie Foxx and Yelawolf's contributions just make the album all the better. It's good to know that an old artist who has had his doubts among listeners has still got it, as he proves that hip-hop still has hope with this album. Definitely make sure to check out General Patton, Hustle Blood, Turns me on, Shutterbug, and Shine Blockas Remix (Gucci Mane, Bun B, Project Pat). Get some.

SonReal

2010-12-22T14:34:00.000-08:00

If you like good hip-hop, meaning good flowetry and lyrics working along with good beats, listen to SonReal, one of hip-hops newest progidies. The man can write, sing, rap, produce and even skate! Theres not much he can't do. If you like Wiz Khalifa, Murs, Lupe Fiasco, etc. check him out.

In case you're wondering who this guy is...here's an intro.

Best songs on the Mixtape (personal opinion) are: TV Screen, Here We Are, People Asking (hot), Victim Teen (hot), Million Freestyle, Bonkers, Already There, and Whirl Pool. Don't pass them up!

2010-12-14T10:06:00.000-08:00

In case you don't know what dirty dubstep is, dirty dubstep is a type of dubstep that should either be very bass heavy, put a disgusted look on your face, evoke images of torture and pain, make you convinced that the world is ending and/or that robots are taking over, and paint disturbing images of hungry, horrendous monsters in your head. Bass is crucial.
Some dirty tracks can be happier too, but still make you want to shit your pants regardless. Those also count as being dirty. Here are a few nasty tracks. Download, then appreciate the filth. Then take a shower. You'll need it.

Ghetto Sexuual: LoBounce & Stratus

2010-12-07T11:12:00.000-08:00

Straight out the 312 / 773 comes Ghetto Sexuual, made up of Giancarlo Pasquesi (LoBounce) and Patrick Stratton (Stratus), two dudes who know how to throw down.
To be honest, they even inspire me to want to make my own dubstep. Why? I'm not sure why. Maybe its because we have mutual friends and they went to school not far from me, which reminds me that they are only humans; productive, talented humans who started off somewhere and are now making it big! I look at them, and think "Fuck, I want to do that". Anyways, excuse my THC induced state and listen to some tracks.
My personal faves: Put a Weight on it, Switcheroo (Warning: some serious bass coming in at 0:53; not for the weakhearted), Blockhead!, Double Header, Cumulus, and Off Axis. Enjoy!

Enter The Void

2010-12-02T19:03:00.000-08:00

French director Gaspar Noe made this amazing movie about a guy in Tokyo who uses and sells DMT. The majority of the movie is filmed from his perspective and takes you on a journey into his thoughts, past, DMT trip, and his spirits point of view after he is shot. Strap your seatbelts. This is quite the movie film.

Chicago Graffiti: Snacki

2010-11-30T10:52:00.000-08:00

If you're on the streets of Chicago, keep an eye out for Snacki. There's a chance you'll see him on trains, billboards, and other random places.
I got a speech on graffiti coming up pretty soon, so I've been more interested in it lately, although I've always appreciated it. I used to walk down the streets of my yuppie ass neighborhood as a kid and saw "Preston" and "Mental Cab 312"written all over the place, which made me ask myself, who are these mysterious people with these unique signatures? It made walking down the street more interesting. And these were just tags.
So I know this dude who knows (this dude who knows) this dude who has gotten a lot of attention for his work. Snacki's style is one of the coolest and most unique styles I've seen in a while. I wish I knew how to do this :( Check it out.
