It has been a challenging year…for every being, including insects and other little critters.

There has been fire and drought and floods and unstable temperatures and weather.

Insects and other creatures in the Northern Hemisphere know winter is coming. They worry, like us humans, that it will be challenging one.

So expect some of your harvest to be stolen or devoured or claimed as a winter home.

This is part of gardening and part of sharing this wonderful world with other lifeforms.

Librarians buy books for their libraries. A LOT of books. And all writers everywhere get paid when their books are purchased for libraries.

In Canada and some other countries, however, writers receive additional funds, funds they can use to create the next book or to…eat. (We like eating. We try to do it every day. – grins)

Canadian writers are given a ‘grant’ of sorts for every book (ebook, print book, audio book, other) they have in a Canadian library.

If you are Canadian and you want to help Canadian writers, request their books. Ask a librarian to order their books. In Toronto, this is as simple as sending an email or going into a library and mentioning it to a librarian.

Libraries and writers will thank you.

All clownfish are born male. When existing females die, however, they can change gender and become female.

Changing gender is a NATURAL thing. It happens in many species, including human.

And it could happen permanently or temporarily with your main or secondary characters, whether they are human or alien or other.

And if gender doesn’t have to be static, well, just about anything else regarding your characters can be fluid.

As long as it makes sense for their character arc and the story.

We have creative flexibility, my friends. Exercise it if the story needs it.

I continue to craft the 1st draft of the 9th installment of the Super Secret Project. I’m at a part of the story when seemingly random earlier events start to make sense. I now know why they happened and why they were important.

Crash was manufactured to be one of the best warriors in the universe. The cyborg has spent many human lifespans fighting the enemy. But, unlike his battle-loving brethren, he doesn’t enjoy killing. When he escapes the Humanoid Alliance, he vows to never end another life.
Then he meets Safyre, an infuriating human female, and he considers breaking his vow.

Defying Death

Cyborgs don’t show emotion. Death learned that lesson early in his long lifespan. To survive, he hides his fierce passions behind a stoic wall. He calls no warrior friend. He never admits to caring for any being.
Even the human female he’s destined to love.

Chasing Mayhem

Mayhem has spent his lengthy lifespan obeying the Humanoid Alliance’s rules. Finally free from their cruel control, the cyborg warrior plans to cause chaos. He infiltrates a remote settlement, provokes the savage locals until they want him dead, and allows himself to be captured by the sexiest little Retriever he has ever laid his mechanically-enhanced eyes on.

Jumping Barrel

Barrel requires an Expert for the Tau Cetian orphans. He’s looking for a female who is willing to commit to a lifespan-long role, who is comfortable with moving off planet, and who, preferably, has the ability to speak the offsprings’ first language.
His female, however, is looking for a hero.

I note, as best as I can, changes in rules and regulations and guidelines, especially regarding the food and water supply systems, energy and other essentials.

When rules and regulations and guidelines change, I ask myself WHY.

Who benefits from the changes? How do these changes change the quality, availability, and/or safety of whatever is impacted? What should I do differently now due to these changes?

Rules and regulations and guidelines weren’t crafted for funsies. Someone thought they were important enough to fight for. Likely people died before these rules and regulations and guidelines were established.

Note when they change.

A friend was planning to go to the movies with his fiancée. The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I happened to have 2 movie tickets (we obtained using points).

So we gave him the tickets.

We weren’t using them. We didn’t plan to use them in the future.

He will definitely use them.

The gift made sense.

If you’re not using something, consider giving or loaning it to someone who WILL use it. Make their world a better, kinder place.

It is not too late in many areas (including mine up here in Toronto, Canada) to plant another round of salad greens, specifically lettuce. Lettuce also loves the cooler temperatures so it should do well.

With all the salad green related outbreaks this year, growing our own is especially useful.

We know we’re not spreading feces over our garden beds. At least, I hope we know that. (big eyes) And we know we’re washing those already cleaner greens when we harvest them. We have more control over what we’re eating.

I suspect this will become more and more important as the world around us changes.

In the past, I would see something that reminded me of a loved one. I’d think of them. And I’d tell myself I should tell them I’m thinking of them.

Later.

As you likely guessed, later never happened. I would get distracted by something else. Time would pass. The person never realized I was thinking of them and I DO think of them.

Now, I contact them right away. I’ll send them a quick message. “I saw X, I thought of you, and I smiled.” That’s all that is needed. They know I think of them. I care. They are loved.

What is your point of view character looking at right now? What do they see?

Follow their line of sight, what they are focused on.

Are there beings in their view? Are they keeping, for example, their love interest in their line of sight at all times? Is there a color they notice? Does something in their field of vision remind them of something else? Does an object stir up emotion?

This might give you an insight into what they are thinking or feeling. And it might inspire future actions.
