Harvesting & Preserving By the Moon

This article was written by Janice Sharkey

There’s no question that home gardening has exploded in popularity in recent years. With rising food prices and a rising need to reconnect with nature, growing your own food can be an ideal two-for-one hobby. It’s wonderful to watch once purely ornamental gardens being transformed into berried hedgerows and vegetable patches that can provide for the kitchen table all year round. You might think eating from your garden all year is practically impossible, but think again. The key to success is in preserving the fruits of your labor.

I wanted to share this article by Elizabeth. She has a very good point that disappointment has an upside. It provides an opportunity for transformation. We can change and disappointment is the catalyst for that change.

When One Door Closes…

by Elizabeth

The Five of Cups is about disappointment, loss, what “might have been” and crying over spilled milk. It is the card that sees the world as half empty instead half full. If the stricken looking little bunny would just look behind him, he would see that there are two cups that still remain standing.

As Spinner recently reported, Aerosmith's Steven Tyler had a nasty fall in a hotel bathrooin Paraguay over the weekend. The singer was rushed to the hospital where he underwent treatment for a busted lip, cut forehead and two broken front teeth. And from the ghastly picture that Tyler sent NBC's 'Today Show,' it looks like the frontman may have rocked a little too hard while singing in the shower.

Speculation arose about Tyler's sobriety after the incident caught wind around the world, but the 'Idol' judge assured Matt Lauer that this had nothing to do with substance abuse, and everything to do with dehydration after food poisoning.

For those who can't view the video, a group of 30 people are locked inside a Citi Bank, detained against their will. According the video and reports, these people were attempting to close their accounts as a form of protest.

Near the end of the video, a lady standing outside the bank is asked if she was inside. She says yes, I'm a customer. Holds up her banking info (presumably, I can't read the paper and the cops didn't bother to either). She is immediately detained by a guy in plain clothes and other cops come and surround her and drag her away as she repeats "I'm a customer!"

How to determine yes/no tarot cards to suit yourself

I ask a yes/no question and draw a single tarot card. This can be a jumper from the pack, one drawn randomly from a pack spread out on a table, or just a plain shuffle and cut.

The only thing I then do is determine the yes/no answer based on my own positive or negative association with the card.

For example, the 6 of Wands would be a yes, while the 10 of Swords would be a no. It’s that simple.

The Phoenix Temple, Tantra, and Sacred Sexuality

Living in Phoenix (Land of the rising sun), I realize this is such a spiritual place. But, even though it is so spiritual, we must endure the battles for religious freedom. The events that occur at the temple brought harm to none yet they were raided and the sacred temple, desecrated. But those who brought desecration, will themselves be desecrated in accordance with the laws of the universe, which brings me great comfort. - Tater

Recently, in Phoenix, Arizona, a group of people appear to have allegedly used the concepts of Tantra, goddess worship, and sexual healing as a cover for illegal acts: prostitution. They called themselves the Phoenix Goddess Temple, and after six months of undercover work (I wonder how many hundreds of thousands of dollars that cost the people of Phoenix and whether the money could have been better-spent elsewhere?), the police busted the church (yes, they were a legal church) and had some of the people being arrested do a “perp walk” for TV cameras. A brief report from the police’s side can be found here. Jason Pitzi-Waters, in his Pagan-oriented blog, The Wild Hunt, gives another view of what happened at this LINK, and he follows up HERE.

Kiss My A** « Ward Anderson

It's time for club owners to face the facts, if you want to reach out to the "clean" crowd, have a family night or something, but leave your main comedy shows alone. My favorite act of censorship began in a comedy club that began not allowing the comics to drink alcohol on stage because they felt it sent a "negative message" and yet the club had a full bar menu available and a two drink minimum. What kind of negative message are they worried about sending? The guy on stage likes to drink like everyone else in the crowd? Then the club progressed to censoring the language of the comics and topics discussed. The club is now a lame duck. People who go to comedy clubs are not looking for Mickey Mouse cookie cutter comedy. The whole reason they are out at the comedy club is let go of the cookie cutter lifestyle of the day world and laugh their asses off. Now I'm not saying that comics HAVE to be dirty, but it is our job to expose the dark dirty areas of the mundane life. Thanks Ward for telling it like it is.

- Tater

Ward Anderson

I toured 49 weeks on the road last year, traveling to 38 states and 5 Canadian provinces. I can tell you first-hand that the average comedy club audience does not want a watered-down, sanitized, or censored comedy show. In fact, I’ve been amazed at the fact that many crowds have caused me to push my otherwise PG-13 show straight into R-rated territory, made clear by their overzealous reaction to the dirtiest jokes and tepid reaction to the same routines when cleaned-up for certain situations. Hands down, the more “adult” the show, the better the response from the crowd…and that includes when I was simply witness to other comedians performances and not just my own experiences on stage.

Yet I’m amazed to find more and more comedy clubs censoring the comedians who work there. That’s exactly what it is, by the way: censorship. To call it anything else is an insult to both the performer and the audience. It’s a decision made by nothing but a combination of ignorance and arrogance, by the way.

The Aries Full Moon occurs on the evening of October 11th. As in any Full Moon, the Aries Moon opposes the Libra Sun, bringing the Aries/Libra polarity into the forefront of our awareness.

The Aries/Libra dynamic balances the need for self-orientation (Aries) with a focus on The Other (Libra). Libra itself seeks to achieve balance, and in that quest there is often a loss of the desired balance as the quest for harmony, especially in relationships, takes precedence over personal needs. Aries maintains the focus on personal needs and is less interested in achieving balance.

Sometimes people come for a reading and start by asking how they will know if what I say is true. The truth is that we already know what truth is, but we have forgotten the facility to know that truth. Ultimately it is not about knowing the veracity of what the Tarot Reader says, but growing towards knowing truth after the reading. Self belief is not about arrogance – if it is, it the ego at work.

Witches and Stone Circles: Caring for the Past

Sep 21, 2011
Jo Harrington

Pagans of all denominations are drawn to stone circles and other prehistoric sites; and tourism booms at the Sabbats. But are we caring for our heritage?

No-one knows for certain what prompted our ancestors to drag huge chunks of rock, over many miles, then arrange them in patterns and enclosures. One of the most likely explanations for stone circles was that they were meeting places for related communities dotted across the landscape. They might well have been status symbols and calendars too, but their basic function was as a focal point for gatherings. These could have been ceremonial; it could equally have been a market or a place for eligible young people to meet each other. It could have been all of the above.

When Pagans visit these prehistoric constructions now, it can feel like we're continuing a tradition stretching back into antiquity. But unless we're careful, our celebrations are at risk of doing more harm than good.

Witchcraft and the Charge of the Goddess

The great Doreen Valiente wrote the Charge of the Goddess. It's not an ancient text, but it doesn't need to be. It highlights all it means to be a witch and walks us through our ritual meetings. Being Wiccan, this is generally more a guideline than hard and fast rules.

Psychic 'scares 12-year-old girl into stealing $10k jewellery to lift terrible curse'

By Daily Mail Reporter

A woman who claimed to be a psychic scared a 12-year-old girl into stealing $10,000 worth of family jewelry as payment to remove a curse, say authorities in California.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said that Jackeline Lopez was arrested last month on suspicion of extortion.

The victim, whose name is being withheld due to her age, is friends with the daughter of Lopez through school.

Decked out: Jackeline Lopez allegedly took the 12 year old victim to her garage and told her that by reading her future, she could tell that the girl had a massive curse placed on her family and Lopez needed jewels to remove it

In August, the victim began sneaking out of her house to visit her friend, and while the girls were at the Lopez residence, Lopez held psychic readings that she told the girl allowed her to read her future.

Authorities allege that Lopez held psychic sessions in her garage in Palmdale, California, about an hour's drive north of Los Angeles.

To create an authentic effect, Lopez decorated the garage in full psychic regalia, adorning it with candles, chalk outlines, cauldrons, beads, dolls, and replicas of human skulls.

Spooky: Lopez told the girl to put the jewels in a cauldron, then she would say that the girl hadn't brought enough jewels to lift the curse

Lopez allegedly told the girl she was cursed and horrible things would happen to both her and her family if the curse was not removed.

NEW YORK – Protests against Wall Street spread across the country Monday as demonstrators marched on Federal Reserve banks and camped out in parks from Los Angeles to Portland, Maine, in a show of anger over the wobbly economy and what they see as corporate greed.

In Manhattan, hundreds of protesters dressed as corporate zombies in white face paint lurched past the New York Stock Exchange clutching fistfuls of fake money. In Chicago, demonstrators pounded drums in the city's financial district. Others pitched tents or waved protest signs at passing cars in Boston, St. Louis and Kansas City, Mo.

The arrests of 700 protesters on the Brooklyn Bridge over the weekend galvanized a slice of discontented America, from college students worried about their job prospects to middle-age workers who have been recently laid off...

Waite’s Second Tarot Deck—An Incredible Discovery

September 17, 2011 in Major Arcana, Secrets of the Occult Tarot, Tarot Deck Reports, Tarot History & Research, Tarot News & Events

Tali Goodwin of Tarot Professionals and the blog Tarot Speakeasy, through extensive research, has discovered the ORIGINAL Waite-Trinick images that comprised a tarot deck conceptualized by A.E. Waite for the private use of members of his Fellowship of the Rosy Cross. Tali tracked the family of stained glass artist, J. B. Trinick, who had lived in Kendal, England, and found the original color paintings!

Late last year Marcus Katz stumbled across an ebay sale for a set of worn and damaged images that he immediately recognized as part of a mysterious second Waite deck. It had been brought to the attention of tarotists in Ronald Decker and Michael Dummett’s book A History of the Occult Tarot. The illustrations here are from that book. The new discovery was part of a series of several major synchronicities in the story of this rare deck that have taken place over the last two years...
