So, if you are like us at the office you might not have a theatre playing the new Tattoo Nation movie near by. The movie focuses on the growth of tattooing in the West Coast and its influence. Notable artists are featured in the movie such as: Jack Rudy, Freddy Negrete & Charlie Cartwright. This a great source of knowledge for fans of the chicano style and gives a good history of Tattoo Land.

We are very excited to announce the full launch of Bill Demichele's "The Illustrated Woman" app. For the first time, famed tattoo photographer William Demichele is opening his vault. For the past 25 years Demichele has attended over 250 tattoo conventions and photographed over 4,000 tattooed woman.
In 1992, Demichele published the book The Illustrated Woman, a 128 page hard cover coffee table book. Since then, Demichele has been published in more than 15 tattoo magazines, has had numerous museum and gallery exhibits in 5 countries.

We worked with Bill to create and develop an app that was able to put his famed book and more(latest convention coverage and models) in your pocket. We released two versions of the app for people to check out Bill's latest work. You can download a free trial version, which gives you a teaser of the special edition. For the special edition Bill will be updating the app often with the latest convention coverage and model photos. We also included a voting system which allows the community to vote their favorite 10 models. If you are a convention goer you can stay up to date with Bill's travel plans to find out when and where you can go to be photographed. This is a great app for anyone who wants tattooed ladies and event coverage all in one spot!

Tattoo Education: Amazing New Art Book: The Art Of The Leu Family

Many of you have heard of the Leu Family, in particular the iconic Swiss tattooist Filip Leu. Filip's work has long been sought after by serious collectors for his unique take on the Japanese theme, where he takes a deep natural understanding rooted in his psychedelic influences and infuses that into the largescale Japanese style tattooing that he is known for. The character of his work is instantly recognizable, and has been broadly influential to many tattooists over the past two decades.

But the story doesn't end there: Filip is also a painter and artistic explorer in many ways, and comes from a family tradition steeped in rich creativity. Many tattoo fans are aware of the paintings of historic tattoo figures by Filip's wife Titine Leu, the wild surreal ink drawings and tattoo work by his father Felix, the hypnotic mandala paintings by his mother Loretta. And the family creativity goes even further, starting with Felix's mother Eva Aepelli, and his sister Miriam Tinguely, then including many of Filip's siblings.

This rich artistic family tradition has been brought together in a stunning 190 page paperback art book, published by Seed Press, with writing by Aia Leu. It's loaded with color plates of art by many of the Leu family members, with a surprising diversity of drawings, paintings, etchings, watercolors, sculpture, digital works and other mixed media, including some collaborative pieces. PowerLine Tattoo: RITE Recap

So we all had a blast at the Rhode Island Tattoo Expo this last weekend! It was an overall success and good time. We got to both catch up with and meet several of our industry peers.. it's always cool to see what all the local artists are doing these days, and represent Lil Rhody! It was definitely a good turn out, and we greatly appreciate all of our clients that made it out to support and enter contests! Thanks to you, we came home with several new trophies Evan took home First Place Female Backpiece, First Place Male Arm Sleeve, First Place Male Leg Sleeve, First Place Female Small Black and Gray, First Place Male Small Color, First Place Female Small Color, Tattoo of the Day Female on Friday, Tattoo of the Day Male on Saturday, and Jay took home 2nd Place Male Small Color and 2nd Place Female Small Color! Thanks to our rad clients for coming to us wtth awesome ideas and letting us run with them.. we're glad you helped us showcase them in our own hometown! We appreciate all the clients that got tattooed at the expo it's certainly an experience, and not everyone can handle it.. you all sat like champs and let us show off the type of work that what we love to do! Summer 2013

Just back from a successful and exciting trip to Colombia, where I taught a tattooing seminar in Medellin, made possible by Ramiro at Ganesha Tattoo and of course all the awesome poeple who signed up and attended. South America is an amazing place, I highly encourage any tattooers who'd like to travel and work down there to contact Ramiro and ask him about how to make it happen.

Up next is another seminar, this time at the Worldwide Tattoo Conference in Boston, Massachussetts June 45. These intensive 2day events are packed full of advanced information for the continuing education of tattooers, and in terms of potential longterm benefit to one's tattoo career and creativity, are quite a good investment of time and money. If you're not familiar with this groundbreaking educational effort, which is the brainchild of phenomenal tattooer Alex De Pase, check out the event details here.

After that, not much is in the works until the end of summer, when the next Hell City convention comes to Phoenix, AZ. I'm fully booked with tattoo appointments already, but I'll have assorted merch like books and stickers available for sale and for free.

In fine art news, my recent painting "Anointing" was chosen as a finalist for the upcoming International ARC Salon Catalogue, which you can now buy from the Art Renewal Center's website. This yearly competition and printed catalogue represents some of the best in realism art from around the world, and I'm flattered to be chosen for the 2nd straight year.

Off the Map Tattoo: Northwest News: Thanks For All The Support!

Well, the week has been amazing at OFF THE MAP TATTOO (northwest). All artist: Canyon Webb, Mr. Tyler Jones and Jeff Gogue have been hard at work as usual.

Yesterday 5/16/13 was a day to remember in the shop as Canyon Webb and Mr. Tyler Jones did their 1st collaboration art piece in the shop. Hopefully we will get the chance to see more of this type of collaborating out of these two resident artist.

So things went well in Rochester at the Roc City Tattoo Expo. We had a lot of good times and made some cool tattoos. We came home to welcome Ty McEwen back to Graceland Tattoo. He's a good friend and a great artist. It's always a pleasure to have him in the tattoo parlor bringing his unique style of bio organic and color realism to Wappingers Falls. Toward the tail end of Ty's visit Clifton Boggs, of Eulogy Tattoo, came by to make some tattoos for the day. It was a reall cool thing, I've been a fan of Cliftons work for quite a while. With a little luck, he will be back. I'll be hosting Jeff Johnson yet again in July as well as Pittsburgh tattooer Joe Thompson. Check back for dates. This is a little tattoo I made while in Rochester.

These interviews are pretty awesome, and we have edited clips with good advice for both tattooers and for the general public. Jeff Gogue, internationally known for his famed original tattooing style and amazingly popular tattooing seminars, talks about how to attract large scale tattoo clients. Jeff chats about how the Shige and New Skool Collective backpiece books and his own experience getting a backpiece have help open clients vision. He is also asked if he feels like his work plateaus, and about learning to tattoo better. Whether you are a tattoo collector or just someone vaguely interested, this is great advice from one of the worlds top tattoo artists. Avoid tattoo mistakes that are easy to make but difficult to fix!

Nikko Hurtado, internationally known for his famed realistic portrait tattooing style and cutting edge tattooing seminars, joins Guy Aitchison, Canman, and host Ben Licata to discuss about how to collect amazing tattoos.

Guy Aitchison talks about his past tattoo seminar at World Wide Tattoo Conference Chicago and his famed Bio Organic tattooing style. He also goes into detail with the key differences between Chicago World Wide Tattoo Conference and World Wide Tattoo Conference Boston. For Boston's Tattoo Conference Guy Aitchison will be bringing tattoo education to a more "nuts and bolts" level compared to the more theory based Chicago seminar. The upcoming tattoo class will be accompanied by a high definition tattoo video which Guy Aitchison will highlight and discuss with the participants. Joe @ Off the Map Tattoo: The Process

Well, I really wanted to make it to the black foundation and be ready for color on the next sitting but, I only managed to get the outline on for this Hannya.

Chest tattoos are exhausting! However it makes for a great opportunity to share a bit of my tattoo process.

I love lines! I find myself constantly trying to improve not only the quality of my line work but also the character of the lines I choose.

Lines should describe the shapes they are trying to represent, meaning if done correctly

a line drawing will already begin the illusion of 3D form and illustrate depth. Also, in tattooing lines tend to be the thing that will last the longest,

so to me a well thought out line drawing is the most important part of a lasting tattoo.

I had a great time on this one and I'm really pleased with the overall fit! Stay tuned, next time I'll share black foundation ...

Painted Soul Tattoo: Wisdom Wednesday!

This week my cool wisdom fact will be about getting tattooed whilst pregnant... Seems like a pretty basic thing to not do, right? Wrong... Not only do I get questioned if we tattoo pregnant women all of the time, but I literally see it all over the place. I don't understand, you aren't going to color your hair, drink coffee, eat junk food, and you'll stinking avoid microwaves but getting tattooed is cool with you?

When getting tattooed ink does not go into your blood stream, but you should be still focused on staying healthy so your baby will be healthy. Just think, when you get tattooed it goes through different stages of healing swelling, redness, flaking, pealing, soreness, ect... If your bod is focused on taking care of that tattoo your baby could potentially get sick or something! Not to stinking mention risk of infection gets super high because your body is trying to take care of more then 1 thing at a time and so your tattoo takes much longer to heal. I just have cat children (which are way more awesome in my opinion) but anywho, I had gotten a really terrible cold and didn't want to cancel my tattoo appt and it literally took 4 weeks for line work to heal! And all I had was a stinking cold!!!!!! So, just imagine a poor little baby fetus swimmin' around in your tum and getting really sick because you couldn't wait 9 months to get tattooed!

If a shop knows you are pregnant and still will tattoo you, chances of proper sterilization of rooms, tattoo machines, and tubes might not be happening... What's extra annoying about this topic is that every stinking medical blog I've read there was always one cray lady stating "I knew I was pregnant and trusted my artist enough to let him tattoo me and my kid is fine" SERIOUSLY?! Ugh... Ugh is my only response... If you are in this situation and questioning weather or not to get tattooed just think, your child can choose weather they want to grow in your belly, but you can stinking choose to keep that little baby child safe...
