I have decided to use WordPress to write my blog from now on. There isn't anything wrong with Blogger. I just had some weird computer glitches or something so thing didn't work like they used to and I had no idea how to fix it. So I made the move to taycimadeit.wordpress.com. I was able to import my post from here to there so I will still have all my current posts. (Thank goodness it worked!) I'm not closing this blog here but it will be redirected to my WordPress site if you happen to mix it up.forget I moved. I hope you all continue reading!

Eight Months

This week Bug turns 8 months old. The super crazy thing about this is that he is now as old on the outside as he was on the inside. 16 months ago i found out I was going to be a mother. So far the last 8 months have been worth the uncomfortable times during the first 8 months. He is such an amazing little baby and brings so much joy to our family.

Eating carrots. We don't eat them very much because this is what happens every time.

Here are 8 things about Bug at 8 months:

He has 2 bottom teeth. :) Now when he smiles you get these little white stubs poking through. I just love to see them!
Bug stopped eating oatmeal a few weeks ago. No matter what I tried he wouldn't eat it. I bought some whole grain cereal and thankfully he likes that!
Over Thanksgiving, he ate "real" food. He has sweet potatoes, turkey, corn, and rolls. I tried to give him mashed potatoes but he hated them! What kid hates mashed potatoes?!?!
He tries so hard to crawl or even army crawl but he just can't quite get it. He'll get really frustrated and roll over. One day he wanted to be closer to our TV so he just rolled and rolled all the way over to it. Once he got there he turned and stuck his little feet up on the table and watched Saved by the Bell with his feet up in the air. I was dying.
Bug is a jumping/bouncing machine! We have a Baby Einstein bouncing gym thing and he will sit in there and bounce for over 30 minutes at a time. Now anytime you hold him on your lap he will bounce himself and if you stop "helping" he will wiggle his little legs harder to get you to start again.
He loves music. No matter what I am singing he will smile, laugh, and bounce even more. It is just adorable!
Bug talks to his toys. He used to just suck/chew on them but now he has little conversations with them. He will hold them out in front of him and babble, then get so excited and shoves them back in his mouth yo chew on them before they have a chance to respond. Haha.
And last but not least, he will only cuddle with Andy. He just sits or lays with him all cuddled up and calm and I get so jealous. I guess it's just his way of bonding because I have all day with him and he probably gets sick of me.

Christmas Wish List Ideas

As you know, today is Cyber Monday. I am not huge Black Friday shopper so today I am all over the Amazon website as well as Kohl's (because who doesn't love these places?) looking for the best deals for Christmas. I compiled a list of the items I want most, hopefully Andy is reading *wink wink*

Modern Family and Big Bang Theory

These two TV shows are hilarious! The reason they are on the list is because Netflix doesn't have the rights to them, so we get to buy them for Christmas instead.

External Hard Drive and iPhone case

I am a huge geek and I am honestly hoping for an external hard drive. I take a ton of pictures and have way too much music on my computer. I need a place to store it all. And this iPhone case is absolutely adorable!!!

Where the Wild Things Are and Fern Gully

Two perfectly kid friendly movies that will do double duty for me as a mom. My kids will love it just as much as I do, especially when I remember all the songs in Fern Gully. :)

Hooded Parka and Boots

I have one "coat." it is bright yellow and I got it in high school. I need a new one. And these boot are pretty! I have grey "lazy" boots but not a dressy pair so this would be nice as well.

Halloween & Parker Seven Months Old

For Parker's first Halloween I decided to go very simple. He was a Minion. :) I knew he would hate a hat and we already had the sunglasses and overalls. I used a plain white Gerber Onesie and dyed it yellow with Rit Dye. We only went down to Andy's parent's house because who wants to give candy to a seven month old's parents on Halloween? Not me. While we were there we spent the evening with the grandparents and Andy's brother Casey, his wife Kim, and their 13 month old Mason. Mason was dressed as Mickey Mouse. I made him some yellow TOMS (not seen in the pictures) using this pattern and tutorial from Homemade Toast.

I loved them holding hands! It was super cute. Yes I know I'm a sappy mom. :)

Now on to Bug's Seven month old birthday.

It was actually yesterday but I am such a bad keeper-upper that I tend to be a few days late on these monthly updates.

Here are Seven things about Bug at Seven Months

He definitely sits up well. (except for those few occasions like the picture below).
He has figured out how to SCREAM! Not just talking but screaming. Whenever he feels like he needs more attention, or he is having the time of his life he just lets out this high pitched screech!
He is cutting his first tooth at this very moment. :) and :( The poor kid (and Mommy and Daddy) are not enjoying it one bit. As soon as it breaks through I will for sure Instagram it so feel free to follow along here to stay updated.
We have a jumper/play gym thing for him and he finally learned how to actually jump in it this past week. It so cute to watch him learning.
He wants so desperately to crawl/move around. Whenever he is doing tummy time he just wiggles and wiggles like crazy trying to move. Most of the time I will put my hands on his feet so he can push them and move forward and he really likes to do that. He for sure has the scoot backwards thing down though.
He is and has been sleeping through the night for a while now. He goes to bed around 8:30 and I hear him talking in his bed at 6:30 the next morning. Yes I know it's early but with me and Andy both having a crazy morning schedule we are all awake that early anyway.
He has started waving "hello." Only to Andy but it is a faint up and down with the hand every time he comes home from school or work.

"F" is for Friday - Factober

The month of October started out pretty great. We had Parker turning 6 months old on October 4th. (I'm a little late. Read why below) YAY! My little boy is growing up so fast I can't believe my eyes.

6 things about Bug at 6 months

He is now sitting up very well. He does topple over if he gets distracted or sick of sitting up but he is almost a pro.
While doing tummy time he will turn himself in circles. He can't go forward or backward yet but he will turn his body to see you if you are sitting behind him. It's really fun to watch, or leave the room and come back to find him facing a totally different direction than when you left.
He has rolled from his tummy to back a few times but only when I am not in the room. :( He did finally get the back to tummy the other day. That was super exciting.
He is now drinking just formula. I was exclusively pumping because he would never latch. My supply was getting very low anyway and due to how this week went (keep reading to find out) it just dried up in a few days from all the stress. It is a little bittersweet thinking about him not drinking milk anymore but I love the time I have now that I am not pumping anymore.
He still eats a ton of solids every day. He is now up to 12 oz total. 4 for each meal. He doesn't like the taste of plain oatmeal anymore so I have to mix it with some homemade peaches. He gobbles it right up.
He absolutely loves it whenI sing. It doesn't matter what I sing or how I sing it but he loves it. He also really likes Katy Perry. :) It is really funny to see him react to when a song of hers is playing. Big smiles, waving arms, kicking legs. It is to die for.

He was so tired he couldn't even finish his food.

Next we had my 24th birthday on the 7th. I should have realized that week was going to be horrible from the way it started Monday morning. I have a class on Monday mornings so I have to take Parker to my aunt's house. She called and told me she was sick. Bummer! Good thing my sister lives somewhat close. I asked if I could bring him over there during my class. She agreed to watch him and I headed that way. By the time I made it to class I was 20 minutes late. Normally I wouldn't have gone but, it is a 2 hour class so I didn't miss too much. Then I headed back to my sister's place to pick up my little Bug. We stayed at her house until he had his 6 month checkup. He did have to get more shots. :( Poor little guy. The rest of the day was spent trying to make everything perfect so he wouldn't just burt into tears at any second.

Tuesday actually wasn't too bad. We went out to Texas Roadhouse for dinner. Andy and I brought Parker with us so it was his first time out to eat. Didn't go horrible but like anything with a baby it was a little hectic.

Now Wednesday... Here's where the ~~stinky-ness~~ fun begins... My Wednesday sitter was in California so I decided I would stay home from class just this once. We had a WIC (Women, Infant, Children) appointment for Parker and me that afternoon. Once the appointment was over, as I was leaving the building and driving away, we got into a wreck with another lady. :(

Both drivers and Parker are fine. No major injuries!!! However, our car was non-drivable. BIG BUMMER! That night I was a mess. I was worried about Parker possible being hurt, my own minor injuries, and our groceries for the week. (You see, I had planned a whole outing that afternoon to take care of our weekly errands.) Thankfully Andy's mom was in town and we took Parker to spend the evening with her at his brother's house while I called like a billion people to get things worked out with the car and went to the hospital to get me checked out. I just needed some peace of mind that I was okay. I was fine and just had to take some Ibuprofen for a few days. The rest of the week and most of this week has been consumed by many phone calls to insurance and car repair services. This is why I was a few days late on posting about Bug and I getting older. Here's to hoping the rest of the month ends well. :)

Feeling Tribal

I have had this fabric for about year now and could never decide what to make with it. Well my inspiration came when Andy got me a SERGER for my birthday!!! I am in heaven! I was trying to decide if I needed one or not for a long time. I read a lot of blogs that said "if you sew with knits get a serger." Basically all I ever do is sew with knits. On occasion I will venture into the world of more slippery fabrics but the majority is knit. I just love my serger to death. I busted out two skirts last night with it. I will write a tutorial on how to make this skirt very soon. In the meantime just enjoy the fall colors and the sweater on my legs. :)

My birthday is in a month and these are the things I'm really wanting this go round.

1. Serger

This serger is perfect for my beginning skills but it should last me while I improve them as well.

2. iPad Mini

I really want one (but I know it's way out of our price range.) I just want to put it on my WISHlist. What's a WISHLIST without at least 1 totally outrageous wish right?

3. Jeans

I am a fan of American Eagle jeans. They seem to be the only brand that actually fits my body well.

Five Months

Oh My goodness! My little "Bug" is already 5 months old! (yesterday) I cannot believe how fast he grows. Every day it seems like he is doing something new and different. He is such a joy to have in our family and I could not have asked for a better son.

Here are 5 things about Bug at 5 months.
1. He is now sitting up for a few seconds at a time. He does fold in half like this last picture a lot or just tips over but he is getting much better at it every day.
2. He eats a ton!!! Lots and lots of milk as well as solid foods. So far his favorite new food is bananas. I could mix anything with them and he would still eat it with a smile.
3. He's rolled over a few times but not since I captured the video on Instagram here. I guess he'll just do it more when he's really ready.
4. His voice is getting very loud. He is very into screaming at things from his rattle, teething rings, his jungle gym monkey, to the TV. I love it!
5. He is starting the "stranger danger" stage. It's a little sad to see him not like his aunts and uncles and make the cutest little sad faces but I know he'll grow out of it.

He is wonderful and I look forward to him growing more and more cute every day!

"F" is For Friday: Fashion (Infinity Scarf Tutorial)

Needed Materials
OLD Tee (mine were plain white Hanes from years and years ago)
Scissors

Optional Materials:
Rit Dye
Sewing Machine (if your shirts are too small, use two and sew together)

1. Take your old shirt and lay it flat. Cut the original hem off. Then cut as close to the arms as you would like.

2. (Optional. Scroll down to (5) if you are not sewing two pieces together) My shirts were too small for just one to go around like an infinity scarf so I used too. Cut the sides open of both pieces.

3 (Optional. Scroll down to (5) if you are not dying the scarf.) Use Rit Dye to dye the fabric in whatever color you want. I used Dark Brown liquid Rit Dye

4. NOT PICTURED (Optional. Scroll down to (5) if you are not sewing two pieces together) Use a zig-zag stitch and matching thread to sew the pieces together and make one long tube.

5. Stretch the fabric out by pulling it lengthwise.

6. Style and wear everyday this fall. :)

Fall Is My Favorite!

Today's "F" is For Friday happens to be about my Five Favorite Things About Fall. I'm so excited about Fall coming up and here's why...

1. Fall Fashion!

I love the boots and blazers. They just scream "keep me warm!" but without the look of winter.

2. Fall means College Football!

I absolutely love saturday afternoons with like 5 games to choose from. It is simply marvelous!

3. Fall Food!

Fall just seems like the perfect time for chili and cornbread. I'm not a fan of traditional chili but my sister introduced me to this White Chicken Chili recipe.

It is absolutely the best chili I've ever had. Also, this is my dad's cornbread recipe. It is so great!

Ingredients:

1/2 C butter @ room temperature

1 C sugar

2 eggs

1 C yellow corn mean

1 1/2 C flour

2 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp salt

1 1/2 C milk

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350

Mix first three ingredients in large bowl. Then add the rest. Spray the pan (works best in a Pyrex glass pan. This is for an 8x8 pan but you can double it for 9x13. Cook for 35-40 minutes

4. Fall means School

Maybe it's just the teacher in me but fall reminds me of the beginning of school and thus a new "year" so to speak. I love that feeling of getting geared up to learn new things with new people (or if you're from a wee small town like I am, the same people you went to pre-school with.) I completely enjoy getting new pencils, pens, notebooks, maybe a backpack or lunch box! Fall is definitely time for school.

5. Last but not least...

Fall means my birthday!

My birthday is at the beginning of October. The weather is perfect, there are leaves to crunch, yummy food to eat, presents (obviously), and best of all I get to see my family!

Weekend of 1st's

This past weekend was the American Fork Steel Days celebrations. Ever since I can remember (and even when I can't) the grandkids in my family would take their very first merry-go-round ride with grandma or grandpa. We would go to the parade that morning then head over to the carnival for some fun. This year I got to take Parker for his turn on the plastic horses at the carnival. My sister who had her baby just a few weeks before Parker was born brought her son too. There were no tears so I'm calling this outing a success.

Also this weekend I started feeding Parker solid foods. So far it's just rice cereal. I'm going to try bananas and avocados next. I can't wait to see his cute little face as he discovers these new tastes. He loves to sit there with his leg up on the bar and act like he's too cool for solids. I just love him to bits!

One last update! He actually rolled himself over from his belly to his back this morning during tummy time. Unfortunately I missed it in action. I will keep trying to capture a video of it.

4th of July!

Every year on the 4th my family goes camping. We didn't really want to go with a new baby but we did take him up Hobble Creek canyon to celebrate the 4th and my mom's birthday (also the 4th.) Here is his first camping trip. Well kinda.

And Parker is 3 months old. (3.5 now cause I'm too slow at blogging.) The time flies by so fast it's like I just blinked and now he's smiling, laughing, holding toys, and even sitting up for 10 seconds without falling over. WOW!! This is one of his new things. Pointing his little finger like a gun. He does it mostly with his left hand and sometimes with the right.

We also went to a Bees game on the 5th. Lots of firsts for this kid.

Pretty great seats if you ask me!!

He loves bath time and story time with dad before bed. :) He is so interested in the books!

And this last one for my mom. :) He looks so cute in that Utah red!!!

He changes so fast I can't stand it!!!

Parker Andrew Mecham: A Birth Story

It began Monday, April 1st. I started having mild contractions and I thought they were just Braxton Hick's. Then Tuesday came around and they were getting worse but not closer together. We went to labor and delivery that night around 10 pm. They watched me for an hour, since I was only at 35 weeks pregnant they stopped the contractions and sent me home. The contractions came back about an hour after we left. BUMMER! Wednesday wasn't horrible but I was still having contractions. They were getting worse but still not close enough to really worry about. We went back to labor and delivery around 6 pm that night. Again they watched me for an hour and sent me home. Still the contractions came back about and hour after we got home. Then thursday morning rolled around. I tried my hardest to relax and just take my mind off the pain but at 11 am I was done trying. I called Andy home from work and we went to labor and delivery one ~~more~~ last time. They watched me for an hour and in that time I went from being dilated at a 3 to a 5 and from 90% to 100% effaced. They decided to admit me and give me the epidural. I was so exhausted by this point that Andy had to help me stand up to go to the bathroom before we went into the delivery room. I Andy could tell you how nervous I was about getting the epidural cause I went from being really out of it to asking the doctors and nurses a million questions. Once the meds started working (around 1:45 pm) I was so relaxed and pleasant it was almost like a whole different person. I took a nap for a few hours and at 7 pm I was fully dilated and they had me start pushing. I pushed for a total of an hour and a half with a 20 minute break in the middle so the doctor could deliver another baby. At 8:51 pm on April 4th, we had a beautiful little boy! :) He weighed 6 lbs 12 oz and measured 19 in long. Since he was early he was rushed to the nursery where did did a lot of tests to make sure he was healthy. About an hour later I went in and watched with Andy his first little bath.

Boy oh boy am I a lucky mom! He is so precious and the greatest blessing in our lives. I am really grateful that our Lord and Savior is trusting me with this beautiful child. I can already tell how much I've grown and how much I want to grow and become a better mother and woman in the Church. I love him so very much and can't wait to raise him in the Gospel.

Maternity Skinny Jeans Tutorial

I bought a pair of maternity jeans from Motherhood here in Orem but they were way to flare legged. I really wanted a pair of maternity skinny jeans and I haven't found the time to go get some at the Forever21 or H&M in Salt Lake so I just decided to DIY the jeans I never wear anyway. :)

So I found a pair of my favorite pre-pregnancy American Eagle skinnies ( They aren't like SUPER skinny so I know my future swollen legs will still fit into them) and laid them on top of the Motherhood jeans. I made sure the seems on the outside of the leg matched up all the way down. Then I straightened out the legs so they were all laying flat.

Once this was done I cut up the leg to about the middle-knee area ON THE INSIDE!!!!!

I turned them inside out

and sewed with a straight stitch. (My machine already had black thread in it but I could have used blue. The jeans are dark enough that black doesn't show up.)

And here they are. :) They are looking great with boots and without.

Announcement Number 2!!

So I went to the doctor's office this week. And... we got to see the sex of our baby.

WE'RE HAVING A BOY!!!

I am so excited! I always wanted a boy first because I never had an older brother. :) I'm very nervous because I know next to nothing about boys (I have 3 sisters.) But I am very excited for the new life we will be bringing into our family. Such a wonderful blessing to be able to have one of God's precious children come into our lives. I know there will be a lot of struggles and many sleepless nights that follow but with the help of our Lord and Savior, family and friends, and many prayers we will make it.

Drum Roll Please...........

WE'RE HAVING A BABY!!!!

THAT'S RIGHT! WE'RE HAVING A BABY!!!!

As you can see in the picture, the dues date is May 4th, 2013. We are so excited!!! We went to the doctor today and they did the ultrasound. I was so nervous because I have had three dreams about having twins (a boy and a girl.) When we looked at the monitor we saw only one so I was relieved. Andy looked the same. It was so great to have him there with me! We saw the little heart beating so incredibly fast. It was breathtaking. I couldn't really believe this little person was inside of me. (Aside from the occasional morning sickness and exhaustion that is.) Andy and I are so grateful for this chance to be parents! It's going to be a wonderful experience and I look forward to updating you on how the pregnancy and family is growing.

Pencil Skirt from old T-shirts Tutorial

My cousin Ashley over at 678 degrees celsius did this with some of her old shirts and i loved it! It's taken me a long time to do my own but here it is!! :) I followed the tutorial from Cotton and Curls except I cut mine at 3.5 inches because my shirts were too small for 4 in pieces.

The left-over shirts. I've had these shirts since high school. WOW!!

Once I was finished cutting them I just sewed the pieces together with a zig-zag stitch (no serger here unfortunately.) Then I ironed the seems toward the blue stripes so it wouldn't show through the white stripes. However, when I put it on it doesn't show through so I wasted my time. :) Haha! I was going to make it slimmer like she did but It is really snug anyway so I'm leaving it the way it is. The Red Sox shirt kinda just fits with it. :) I didn't even plan it.

The skirt is a little tight on my booty. :( I'll have to get used to that. But overall I think this project was a great success. I really like the skirt and I'm planning on making a few more.

DIY Maxi Dress

DIY Cardi Tutorial

I love this idea. I got it from Leanne Barlow at Elle Apparel. Mine was from a cardigan that I wore a while ago. I knew it wouldn't be able to button up but I was okay with that.

I traced the old cardigan onto a pattern and cut out my pieces.

Sewing the "piping" on was super confusing! But I really love it!

DIY Painted Chairs

My post with the perfect chairs is finally happening. My hubby told me the other day that he thought it was funny that I was so excited about getting those chairs and I haven't done anything with them. Well... To show him, I got all the paint and tools and things I needed to start my project a few days later. I followed the post from Kristy Swain at Hyphen Interiors. I would explain it to you but she does it really well.

After the first coat. On Kristy's blog she says it'll look worse before better. SO TRUE!!

This is after the second coat. Not too shabby!

Now with the cushion on... All I have left is the last coat with the acrylic paint.

Well That is pretty much all it looked like. It's a little more grey but I love it. Still some crunch to the sitting but it's getting better. I made these back in May. Ah!!!! Sorry for not blogging it sooner.

HEADBOARD!!! (Bedroom Makeover: Part II)

For our wedding present my brother-in-law said he'd make us a bed. (Even though it's a year later. Haha Chris I just had to say it. :) We are very grateful and love it!!!) We now have a bed! I'm so excited for this post because I absolutely L.O.V.E. the headboard. It was inspired by Don and Betty Draper (Mad Men) and this post by Jenny Komenda at The Little Green Notebook. I decided we could make one too!

It was a 5 person job. My sister threaded the needles, my mother and I pushed them through the back and stapled the threads down when they were ready, and my father and brother-in-law put the buttons on the needles and pushed really really hard to get super deep tufts.

I just followed the tutorial from Jenny's blog with a little changes of my own. We used regular plywood (that's what Chris already ha ha) and only 2 in. upholstery foam (all I could afford). Other than that we did as directed and here's how it turned out!

SO great!!! Not quite as elaborate as Don and Betty's but perfect for us! I can't wait to finish the lamps and get an old chandelier to use as our light fixture (instead of the standard one everyone who rents gets in every room.) Thanks for reading!!! Good luck if you try the headboard thing. :)
