When customers buy online gourmet food this time of year, they choose steaks for al fresco grilling and pairing it with Cabernet Sauvignon. This is the perfect wine selection because it boasts hearty tannins that can offset the bitterness from grilling—and our online gourmet food store has a stellar selection of Cabernets.

Blood oranges are in season—these are a favorite among gourmet food and wine lovers, who know they’re perfect for adding to a winter salad and pairing with a glass of a glass of white wine. Another favorite specialty grocery item is the mushrooms in season during the winter, which are ideal for pairing with a spicy style of Pinot Noir. Our selection of online gourmet food includes specialty produce like root vegetables that will go brilliantly with any of our selection from the white grape variety.

Since champagne is a time honored tradition of New Year’s celebrations, it’s a good idea to bring either a nice bottle of champagne or gourmet groceries that go well with it. When you browse our selection of online gourmet food, you’ll find an extensive array of items that pair perfectly with champagne.

Champagne is much more versatile than wine when it comes to pairings. The typical gourmet food market items like oysters on the half shell and caviar are no-brainers. Would you be surprised to know that fried foods are delicious with bubbly? For the same reason beer matches so well with calamari, fried chicken and French fries, champagne is also a great pairing. Seafood such as lobster also go wonderfully, as well as poultry, game, ham, veal, pork and lamb. Typical gourmet groceries like cheese also pair well, especially aged, hard cheese like gouda, parmesan and cheddar.

Even online gourmet food such as popcorn and nuts, especially almonds, go very well with bubbly. Eggs go every well, hence the ubiquity of mimosa brunches, so party appetizers like devilled eggs make a great combination. Italian food including pasta, risotto an pizza also go very well, especially with cream or mushroom sauce. Tomatoes clash with champagne’s high acidity of the champagne, so it’s best to avoid heavy tomato-based sauces.

Other gourmet food and wine items that go well with champagne include sushi! Note that it goes is best with the driest bruts or blanc de blancs. Believe it or not, champagne also goes very well with both Asian food and Mexican food.

Our array of gourmet food and wine includes cheeses that are perfect for wine pairings, as well those that stand alone. From beautiful dark purple, Spanish Drunken Goat to Gorgonzola Dolce, our gourmet food market offers something for everyone, even those who buy all their gourmet groceries online. There are many different types of cheeses from every part of the world, so feel free to come into our Sacramento gourmet food store and ask questions and taste samples so you can make educated choices.

Whether you come into our gourmet food market or purchase online gourmet food, we offer descriptions of each type of cheese. There are three main types of cheese, defined by the milk they’re produced from: cow, goat or sheep. When trying to plan a gourmet food and wine menu, try each type first to decide which you like best. Like most specialty grocery items, each has its own unique flavor and characteristics. It’s best to try young, mild types of each so that you can differentiate between them. Many gourmet grocery aficionados describe cheese made from cow’s milk as buttery and rich, sheep’s milk as mild and nutty, and goat’s milk as tangy.

Another element to consider is the texture of cheese, which can vary from soft and spreadable to hard and granular. Avid buyers of gourmet groceries and specialty grocery items claim that texture plays a big role in taste. Most cheeses change texture as they age, so make sure to try both younger and aged versions of each cheese at your next visit to a gourmet food store to determine which texture you prefer.

At a gourmet food store or most specialty grocery stores, they offer a range of cheese samples to taste. If you buy your gourmet groceries online at an online gourmet food store, learn about your preferences in advance, and then it will be easy to make your cheese selections. If you prefer to buy gourmet groceries in general, then make no exception for your cheese purchases—stick to the best online gourmet food store, specialty grocery stores and gourmet grocery stores to ensure the highest level of quality for all of your gourmet grocery items.

When planning a dinner party or even a romantic meal for you and someone special it helps to remember that the key is finding the very best quality ingredients.

If you remember this it makes everything else a lot easier ad guarantees that you will make a good impression. All food needs to be fresh if possible and the emphasis should be on high quality and natural produce. This is especially important when it comes to foods such as meat, fish and fruit and vegetables.

Fresh and locally produced ingredients are those which are used and recommended by chefs and food writers alike, and are readily availble at your online gourmet food store. Using them will make a difference especially when it comes to the taste of what you serve. If you’re planning a special occasion these choices will ensure success.

Fish should be bought and cooked on the day it has been caught and this is particularly important when it comes to serving luxury shellfish such as lobster. Matters of texture and flavor need to be considered, especially if you are preparing a special dish that you really want to impress people with.

Match your drink choices to the meals that are being served. Fish dishes and chicken and turkey should be served with a specially chosen crisp white while red meat and game work better with a glass or red. Make sure you serve all drinks at the appropriate and suggested temperature. Your guests may no all want to drink alcohol, so cater for their needs and have high quality non alcoholic alternatives for them

No everyone is a fan of sweet desserts or the wine which accompanies them. If this is the case serve them a savory option instead. Cheese and crackers goes well with nice glass of sherry or port.

We understand that, just as with any gourmet food and wine purchase, you’ll want to learn a little about the product. Even when purchasing online gourmet food, you can still figure out the perfect choice for you.

With a specialty grocery item like balsamic vinegar, you’ll want to find the perfect combination of sweet and savory, or subtly acidic flavor. A rich, syrup-like consistency is what will help balsamic pair amazingly with gourmet groceries ranging from duck, carpaccio, and parmigiano reggiano to fruit and French vanilla ice cream. Patrons of our Sacramento gourmet food store recommend making cocktails with Balsamic, such as martinis and Mojitos.

When you visit our Sacramento gourmet food store, make sure to ask our staff to recommend an aged balsamic and for pairing suggestions.

Maria s the orphanage at the Convent of San Carlo in Erice. There she spent
arduous hours learning the craft of Sicilian confectionary. Upon leaving
the orphanage at the age of 22, Maria decided to open her own pastry
shop, using all of her training and skill to prepare her own creations.

Today, a stop at Maria Grammatico’s Pasticcieria in Erice is top on the list
for many travellers. Maria Grammatico’s unique torrone is a tender delight made with both
almonds and pistachios. The ingredients are: toasted almonds, pistachios,
egg white, cane sugar, honey, flavoring (vanilla, orange, etc.). The delicious
result is more than the sum of its parts. Available online at Taylor's Market

Balsamic vinegar of Modean is a unique specialty.

A favorite product at our Sacramento gourmet food store is balsamic vinegar from Italy. This rare specialty grocery item is not just for salad dressing or dipping bread—it goes way beyond that. Its roots can be traced back to the middles ages, when it was written about by a Benedictine monk, who touted balsamic vinegar for its healing, rejuvenating qualities. In present day, it’s regarded as a healing tonic and the word “balsamic” is often associated with well-being. Surprising benefits for online gourmet good aficionados!

The more aged the vinegar, the better the taste. Ideally, you’re looking for a blend of sweet with subtly acidic flavor, which pairs well with a vast number of gourmet food and wine products. Everything from duck, chicken and fancy cheese to ice cream, fruit and pastries combines wonderfully with good balsamic vinegar, like the brands we sell at our Sacramento gourmet food store and online.

When shopping Taylor’s Market for gourmet food and wine, you’ll discover hard-to-find items that make your meals stand out. Our selection of balsamic vinegar is no different! We’ve got an extensive array of superb balsamic vinegars to choose from in our selection of online gourmet food, as well as on-site at our gourmet food market. For example, Italian imports Rustichella D' Abruzzo 6 Year Balsamic Vinegar, Grosoli Balsamic Vinegar of Modean Del Duca and Lucini Gran Riserva 10 year Balsamico are incredible. There are so many options to choose from!

Ask our staff for suggestions on specialty grocery items that will pair well with our aged balsamics. You’ll be surprised at the wide range of foods it works deliciously with.

If you visit our Sacramento gourmet food store or buy online gourmet food at TaylorsMarket.com, you will find all the right ingredients to stock a gourmet pantry.

Last week, we talked about some of the gourmet food and wine staples to have on hand. Now it’s time to mix it up with few different specialty grocery items like sauces and jars of pesto for a Mediterranean or Italian style meal, or Basque fish sauce or Basque Meat Tenderizer & Barbecue sauce for a gourmet grocery dish with a Spanish flair. At both our Sacramento gourmet food store and our online gourmet food store, we sell easy-to-use, innovative sauces like Earth & Vine Provisions Apricot Dijon Tarragon Grilling & Finishing Sauce for grilling with pork, chicken, lamb and vegetables or Earth & Vine Mango Tequila Jalapeno Grilling & Dipping Sauce for a taste from some south-of-the-border.

You’ll also want some specialty grocery items like Granite Bay Farms Wasabi Ginger Teriyaki Sauce or Granite Bay Farms Zinfandel Meat Marinade for a different spin on the basics. Whether you buy online gourmet food on our website or visit our gourmet food market in person, you’ll find descriptions that make it easy to be creative with your menu choices. Even when you buy your gourmet groceries online, there are many pages of sauces and marinades that will make a visit to your pantry feel like an excursion to the best gourmet food market.

Have fun while you’re creating your dream pantry. Visit specialty grocery stores and browse websites for ideas on how to find all the gourmet grocery items you need and make it an enjoyable experience. Participate in gourmet food and wine tastings, try samples at gourmet grocery stores and be inventive with the meals you prepare.

When you have the right gourmet food and wine staples in your pantry, a delicious gourmet meal is within reach at any time.

Start with the basic gourmet grocery items: extra virgin olive oil, balsamic vinegar, sea salt, sea salt blends and an array of spices and sauces that run the gamut of flavors so you can always whip up something unique and flavorful. It’s important to select the finest quality items from your gourmet food market—this will result in delicious meals that impress every guest. Other essentials for your gourmet grocery pantry are Dijon mustard and black peppercorns.

For sea salt blends, you may want to try celery sea salt, citrus sea salt or peppered salt. It’s also a good idea to have a nice range of gourmet oils— every gourmet food store carries others in addition to olive oil. At Taylor’s Market, we have some amazing specialty grocery items that you can also get when you buy your gourmet groceries online, such as La Tourangelle Roasted Hazelnut Oil, Roasted Almond Oil and Roasted Walnut oil, to name a few.

When you come into our Sacramento gourmet food store, always look for specialty grocery items that are appealing in color and have a nice aroma. If you buy your gourmet groceries online, carefully read the descriptions and compare your options. Online gourmet food is just as fresh and delicious as the gourmet food and wine you can buy in any gourmet grocery stores, so rest assured that you can stock your pantry via the web, just as well as if you come into our gourmet food market.

Cheese is such a favorite among gourmet food and wine aficionados and there is good reason why! Here are a few tips to for making the most of your trip to the gourmet food market and when you’re buying gourmet groceries online.

Try the same cheese from different countries
Just like other gourmet food and wine, the flavor of cheese made in different countries is unique to each region. The flavors are affected by the climate, what the animals are fed, and the time of year that the milk is obtained. When you visit our Sacramento gourmet food store, ask our staff for recommendations of cheese from different countries so you can evolve your palate. If you buy your gourmet groceries online, the descriptions of the online gourmet food we offer has descriptions that tell you where the products originate.

Incorporate pairings
The next time you visit a gourmet food market or specialty grocery store, ask for suggestions for some good pairings. This will make trying new cheese types that much more enjoyable. Some standard principles are: red wines go with red meat, while white wines go with fish and poultry. There are also great pairings for cheese that the experts at gourmet grocery stores will help you with. The most important thing is to try new things!

Experiment
Different cheeses go better with certain specialty grocery items than others—the best way to figure out your own preferences is to do a cheese tasting. The next time you visit a gourmet food store or buy gourmet groceries at an online gourmet food store, get a wide range of different styles of cheese along with some wine, condiments and snacks. In addition to wine, try gourmet grocery items such as fresh fruit, nuts, crackers, jams and jellies, honey, chutneys and mustards. Try each type of cheese with each of the condiments and you’ll figure out some great pairings and determine what works best with each. Some specialty grocery stores even have kits for creating pairings.

When you visit our Sacramento gourmet food store or purchase online gourmet food, browse our wine selection for great gift choices at every price, from $15 and up. A visit to specialty grocery stores or a gourmet food market or will give you a wealth of ideas for gifting.

A great way to show thought to your gift, whether it’s gourmet food and wine or other specialty grocery items, is to include a note explaining why you chose that particular wine bottle or gift. Maybe you liked the bottle, or you know the recipient likes the city or country that the wine is from, or it pairs well with their favorite type of food. This thoughtful touch will make them think of you when they enjoy this lovely gourmet grocery item.

If you select a bottle of wine, wrap it in a non-transparent bag. Even though it’s a wine bottle, everyone likes a surprise and enjoys unwrapping a present. Many wine retailers and specialty grocery stores, including our Sacramento gourmet food store and online gourmet food store, carry a range of bags for gifting bottles. If you don’t buy your gourmet groceries online or live near a gourmet food market, you can always look at stationery stores for nice bags.

Unless you think the wine will be opened immediately, it’s not necessary to chill it. However, if the host asks you to bring a bottle of wine or champagne from a specialty grocery store, then it should definitely be chilled beforehand. If it’s going to be served with a meal, ask what type of food will be served so you can pair the wine accordingly. Ask the staff at the gourmet grocery store for pairing suggestions or search for tips at your favorite online gourmet food store.

When buying wine and gourmet groceries, especially during the holidays when you may attend several parties, it may behoove you to buy it by the case at your next visit to a gourmet food store or when you buy your gourmet groceries online. Many gourmet grocery stores and websites that sell online gourmet food will give you a great discount for purchasing by the case.

In recent years, we’ve learned how good fish is for us. It’s an excellent protein choice and types like salmon and tuna are packed with heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids. In addition to our superb selection of gourmet food and wine, you can find amazing seafood and fresh fish at our gourmet grocery store and when you’re buying your gourmet groceries online.

A critical element of good seafood lies in the preparation. Lucky for our customers, both our Sacramento gourmet grocery store and online gourmet food store carry delicious sauces for preparing seafood. For those who enjoy the flair of Spanish food, we carry an incredible, original Basque Fish Sauce. Great for all types of fish, this all natural, specialty grocery blends sherry, burgundy wines, oil, onion, garlic, lemon zest, and other herbs and spices.

Another favorite of the patrons of our gourmet food market is The Ojai Cook Bite Back Tartar Sauce. Ingredients like jalapeno and horseradish make it perfect for seafood, fried fish, cold shellfish, tuna salad, salad dressings, veggie dips or artichokes. A favorite of our online gourmet food customers is Taylor's Market Tartar Sauce, a flavor-packed concoction made with mayonnaise, dill relish, jalapenos, lemon juice and garlic. Great for use with fish, shell fish or as a vegetable dip. When you’re browsing our gourmet groceries online, you’ll also notice Taylor’s Market Cocktail Sauce, made with tomato, vinegar, pickled watermelon, horseradish, cabbage, celery, onions, and spices. This has been a staple at our gourmet food store for years.

A visit to our gourmet food market promises a delicious array of gourmet food and wine coupled with personalized attention like no other specialty grocery stores can offer. We take pride in offering the best gourmet groceries in both our gourmet food store and online gourmet food store.
