Wow, where to start? Lots of items to cover for this episode! First off, the duo converse about the final song from their album, “Pulse of the Earth“, which is titled “Hill“. Dreams are wonderful things, especially when they give back! Read Warren’s original process for creating the music.

The second item on the list was the interview HL did for the radio program “Echoes” with John Diliberto. They’ve included the entire broadcast for your enjoyment. How lovely! And yes, they have direct permission from Mr. Diliberto himself.

In OPM news, CB shares a very special musical project that she had the absolute pleasure to work on. The duo consisting of Frank Spinath (of Seabound) and Mario Schumacher, a.k.a. the band “Edge of Dawn“, have released their album “Anything That Gets You Through The Night” in Europe, and will release it in the US in June. The track Christa contributed on is “Lucid Dreams”. Another OPM, meaning media, is the film “Whole New Thing“. Definitely a must see for all Independent film lovers.

In closing, CB&W announce the renaming of the podcast and a reformatting as well. With Hungry Lucy being more on the back-burner these days, the duo decide to keep on rambling about new things going on. This is not a “disbanding announcement”, NO! Just a casual mention that HL is in a lull and needs some rest Christa and Warren hope you will continue to listen, as they have much more to say. Maybe some new jingles as well. OH, what fun!!

Stay tuned to see what new things Christa Belle and Warren will have to chat about. New books, films, technology, food, gardening…anything goes!!

Until next time, look to the future. It’s full of Cornhole!

This time around, Warren shares Trent Reznor’s latest project, “How to Destroy Angels” as well as a preview of Null’s Devices latest treat, “Suspending Belief“. Christa shares Goldfrapp‘s latest “Head First” while CB & W both get overly excited about Alison Goldfrapp’s legs…. mmmm. This week’s HL song under the microscope is “Sunday Smiled” (from Pulse of the Earth), a sweet and sappy duet. Christa delights us with some of her recent culinary creations while Warren gets hungry for dinner.

Next time… a wrap up of the final song on the album. Where will the podcast go from there?

The slow start ramps up to a hilarious swell of bum humor, chicken comments and other random silliness.

The solid (no, not THAT solid) facts of the week were that Hungry Lucy was interviewed by John Diliberto of Echoes, which will air on the Echoes show later in June. You’ll know when when the duo know when!

Also mentioned was the release of CB’s eBook, “Days with Indigo“, available directly at www.blackbreadbox.tv for only $10. What a bargain! CB also mentions her still-functioning blog over at www.christabelle.com if you fancy a longer read about what’s been going on in her world lately. As for Warren, he’s still on the Facebook, the Twitter and over at www.hungrylucy.com . They are certainly not far from your questions, comments or other concerns you may have. Drop in and say “Hi”, or just let them know if you’re still listening to the podcast,. As they say, “You don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone…”. Share the love. Let them know if you still want your tea!

Until next time, why fart and waste it when you can burp and taste it?

All are welcome! It’s that time again. Time to share great music with friends and hear the stories behind the songs! This week brings you the ditty “Just Imagine” from the duo’s newest album “Pulse of the Earth“. Who knew that two Legends could bring forth such a cool, futuristic song. And a space car to match!

CB chats about the increase in sales of her novel “Days with Indigo” and how she’s started work on the next installment of deliciousness for the Black Bread Box site. No details yet. It’s still cooking.

Warren discusses his absolute glee about Hungry Lucy being featured on Echoes not once, not twice but for a third time now! The Australian radio program/podcast Ultima Thule will also be featuring the album as well. What more could a boy ask for? Not much!

With Vanilla Poundcake resting on the baking rack, and Spaghetti Bolognese (vegetarian) on the menu, there isn’t much more that could bring huge smiles to the duo’s faces. Everything is good. Thanks for listening!

Until next time, what flavor are your balls?

There is much to be discussed this week! Not only is the new Hungry Lucy CD “Pulse of the Earth” now available in its fancy-schmancy wide-angle digipack, but it ships immediately from the HL HQ! This is a limited pressing of only 1000 copies, so make sure you get hold of your copy today!

This week’s preview track, played in its entirety, is the title track off of the album, appropriately named “Pulse of the Earth”. Just wait until you hear all the stories about this one. Oh, just you wait!

In other merchandise news, Christa Belle’s first novel “Days with Indigo” is now available in hardcover, for $35 + shipping, over at her new website Black Bread Box. You’ll find all the information on what’s to come and what’s already happening now. If it’s an eBook you fancy, don’t fret. There will be a digital version for your specific need shortly, and for only $10.

In exciting, “Oh my god I can’t believe he said my name!” news, Hungry Lucy has been played not once, but TWICE on Echoes in the last week! The amazing John Diliberto played “Just Imagine” and “Bumble” off of the new album. Not too shabby, ay? So, why not shoot for three times? Go on over to Echoes and tell them you heard Hungry Lucy and you’d love to hear more. Hungry Lucy would love you forever if you did.

So, until next week, buy the album and the book! Spread the word, spread the love.

The song of the week is “Voyeur”, which the duo happily play in its entirety. We learn the two stories that merged to become one mass of creepy, beautiful, Mellotron-laden loveliness. Can’t we all just get along? Nope. Don’t think so.

In foodie news, CB touts her love of Nocciolata (the version of that other popular Chocolate-Hazelnut spread that hippies prefer) and the fact that she gets to spend 2+ hours in the kitchen later to make a monstrous Boca/Veggie Ragu with Rigatoni. Can you say Yum?

Warren speaks out on the “Non-Commercial” issues with download sites and HL’s new album. Lou Pole makes an annoying appearance, causing Warren to get a little irked, to say the least! If you want to truly download the new HL album for free, just go to Archive.org or Jamendo.com. The duo explain how difficult the transformation was to get the song up-to-date to meet their ever-demanding approval. CB cheers at the second draft of the second verse and Warren nods to Star Wars via trumpets and big drums. A very light-hearted, playful episode with laughter-a-plenty. Come one, come all!

It’s time for another episode of Tea with Hungry Lucy! What could they possibly have to say this week? Well, you can bet that they’re going to try and sway you to buy their fantastically beautiful new album, “Pulse of the Earth“, for only $15 short dollars! And, why not? It’s “Airy-Fairy meets Dark and Scary”. Who wouldn’t want that?

CB reads the story behind this week’s song, “Bumble”, which she wrote down in the cabin shortly after hearing Warren’s musical workings. Warren fills us all in on his inspirational figure, David Lynch, and how DL set the “tone” for the first part of the song’s work. All in all, a fascinating turn of events for one of the duo’s favorite tracks off the new album. Rabbit heads and all, it’s just a bunch of fun.

Warren goes on to speak highly of a Brian Eno documentary film, “Arena: Another Green World“, and CB spills forth goodness about a film called “Humble Pie“. It’s a good-for-you episode, full of all sorts of yum-yums, vitamins and cheese. Don’t forget the cheese!

Until next week, try your best not to run over any animals. It hurts!

Not only does CB talk, and talk…and TALK about the photography in the cd artwork, but Warren tells all on how to get the album, “Pulse of the Earth”, RIGHT NOW!!

The featured new track of the week, the first of ten, is “Balloon Girl”. Named in part for the memory of a dearly departed fan, (known as “The Carnival” on the HL Shoutout message board). This track exudes a rich, colorful, even playful, backdrop of darkly bright happiness. You can almost see the Not-So-Merry-Go-Round spinning, painted animals-a-plenty, with the Balloon Girl and all of her devoted companions at her side. She is never alone, nor will she ever be. The Balloon Girl is always with us. Always.

Until next week, when Hungry Lucy will bring you another story behind the song, enjoy the new album. Stay happy. Stay focused. Stay brave!

They’re back! After nearly a year and a half, Hungry Lucy return to the podcasting world with great news! Finally, Warren and Christa Belle announce the title of their new album, “Pulse of the Earth”, and discuss the writing/recording process. No previews yet, but it’s definitely worth one more week of waiting.

Amongst the writing and recording of the album, Christa Belle shares some fantastic news. CB has written her first novel, “Days with Indigo”, which will be released shortly behind the new HL album. Brilliant! Can you sense a combo-pack in the making?

It would seem that Warren and Christa Belle are no doubt back in business after a much needed quiet spell of creating and exploring the musical world. The new album is indeed a tribute to quietude, solace and what happens when you allow the music to speak to you, not the other way around. As the duo discovered, you can’t force a good song. You must be patient. Patience pays off…BIG TIME!

Until next week, prepare your ears and eyes for a fabulous treat! Can you feel the pulse?

It’s hard for me to believe that Hungry Lucy turns 10 years old this month (Nov. 2008). Although our cover of Depeche Mode’s “Blue Dress” kicked everything off earlier in 1998, November of that year marked the first time we put pen to paper and fingers to keyboard to create our first original song, “Bound in Blood“. I remember getting up one morning and finding that Christa had left the lyrics with a little description of the “sound” for me. It was like a little present. Using that description as “instructions” I began to form the music. And Hungry Lucy was born!

We’ve sure come a long way since those days. Working in our own little bubbles was the way we both dealt with the very personal work of songwriting back then. The shear distance we’ve come was reinforced this past weekend when Christa and I (close to giving up completely) threw away several of the songs we had for the next release. Although this seems rash, it was just the catharsis we needed. Within a few hours of this decision, we had sat down together and created what is my current favorite song, “Pulse of the Earth“. Gone are the attempts to emulate the artists we love and respect. Frankly, that was the problem with the songs we threw out. It can be tough to trust one’s own instincts when you’re creating something for which you know people are waiting. Casting all the expectation aside is what it takes, and where Hungry Lucy is headed (once more) as we go into our 11th year as a band. We’ve never been a normal band. We never will be… and that’s OK. We are nothing more than husband and wife, creating the little pieces of art of which we can be proud.

Coinciding with our 10 year anniversary, we recently took a trip down memory lane for the excellent “Music for Midnight” podcast. Austin Beeman (our gracious host) did an excellent job of producing something that provides a lovely audio scrapbook of our past 10 years.

You can subscribe to Music for Midnight or listen directly to the Hungry Lucy – Feature. “In Their Own Words” (MP3 link).

Thank you Austin for shining a light on what we do!

In the absence of our podcast, “Tea with Hungry Lucy“, I’ll be writing more about the album’s progress in the next few days. For those of you that have emailed, TWHL will be back… just not yet! For all the people that have emailed and commented with your supportive patience, we thank you. Something special is brewing and we’ll share it with you all very soon!

That is all… as you were.

Where’s my watermelon? This episode brings many different topics to the table. One of which is the new Hungry Lucy release, “The Teatime Sessions“!! Get one now for fear of embarrassment! War-N found an interesting article about Introvert vs. Extrovert. Don’t be mean to the “innie’s”!
A note of great importance is the Bloodwire show in San Francisco, CA on August 30th at Julie’s Supper Club.
In episode 120 of Tea with Hungry Lucy, Christa and War-N give us all the juicy details of their recent show with Thoushaltnot at The Dock in Cincinnati. War-N talks about keeping himself to himself, and then feels he's contradicted himself. Christa raises an interesting issue whether it's better to coexist with people of differing views or group together with like-minded people. That got War-N thinking far too hard. What are your thoughts on the matter?
Another important mention is that HL are playing LIVE at The Dock here in Cincinnati with their old tour buddies ThouShaltNot on Thursday, July 31st!!! This was a lovely surprise to be worked out. Thanks, Alex!! HL are very much looking forward to this performance, and to see TSN again!

HL end this podcast with a live performance of their song ‘Softly‘ from the album ‘To Kill A King‘. See if you can spot the precise moment that War-N shifted the speed WAY up!!

OK then. Until next time, pull your own finger. It’s really quite fun!

TWHL #117

Well, despite HL's efforts to stream the podcast live, we had technical difficulties outside of our own control. Thusly, the podcast will not have a live video stream for this episode. Sorry :/ It's all Leo Laport's fault! ;)

But, the duo still had lots to talk about. Work on the new album is chugging along nicely, finally! With no release date a of yet, CB & W are working away on brand new tunes. One of which, 'Just Imagine', was just completed and only needs a good mixing. Who knows how many tracks the new album will have. At this point, it's best to just keep on doing what they're doing! OPM's included for the week were Christa's pick of Frisbee, thanks to Grant and his Three From Leith podcast, and War-N's pick was the new album 'Nine Heavens' by Niyaz which is due out next week. All absolutely great stuff!! CB also chatted about the music store located in Louisville, KY called ear-X-tacy. Frisbee sells his cd's, and vinyl, there directly. If you live near the Louisville area, you should go check it out! Also, you can order from them online here!

Until next time, be nice to others more than you think you should! You don't always know the other side of things.

Toodloo!

Other fine examples of good "brick-n-mortar" indie record stores are:

Shake It Records in Cincinnati, OH
Amoeba Reords in San Francisco, CA
Rasputin Records in multiple locations in the Bay Area, CA

At last, the (triumphant?) return of Tea with Hungry Lucy! In honor of Memorial Day, Christa and War-N kick off the episode with a live performance of the New Order song "Love Vigilantes" (originally recorded for the "True Faith" album). Some explanation of the unplanned Hiatus follows in amongst CB & W's difficulties with forming simple sentences. War-N talks a bit about the film "A Mighty Heart" and how if affected him and Christa talks about beautiful visual impact of the film "Perfume". Other People's Music chatted about was the song "New Soul" by Yael Naim and the album "Dreaming of Revenge" by Kaki King. War-N learned about Kaki on the excellent podcast "World Cafe: Words and Music". The podcast rounds out with "My Beloved" (from the album "To Kill a King"), dedicated this week to our new nephew, Micah.
