Parents: Protect Your Kids

The prevailing occurrence of kidnapping of babies and young kids continue to haunt parents in the Philippines as the incidents continue to happen in different parts of the country.

The most recent news include a 2 - year - old boy who was left to play just within the premises of his home early morning and was later found missing after a stranger brought the kid elsewhere.

The ailing parents then distributed the boy's picture to neighboring towns and media until a pedicab driver found the boy aimlessly wandering in a remote place.

This incident is not far from other news that include the kidnappings of newborn from hospitals that were caught in CCTV.

We, parents, are then enjoined to be more careful and vigilant of our kids. Further, this calls the communities to safeguard the premises from suspicious - looking strangers especially around kids.

It is only a relief that there are missing kids who were found and surrendered to parents and police units and for newborns, medical testing like paternity testing can come very handy and helpful

So, if you happen to see kids wandering on the streets, you may coordinate with the Department of Social Welfare and Development for immediate attention.

The rising temperature this summer could only compel us to swarm the ref with some cool goodies including weight - gaining ice cream.

School boys on Operation Circumcision (TULI)

Summer is fun for most school kids but not to boys who are set to go through the passage - to - manhood ritual of circumcision.

Circumcision solicits debates but medical experts suggest that this procedure shall promote better hygiene and prevention from different types of medical problems including STD.

So, various organizations conduct a free Circumcision Procedure to boys aging 7 - 12 years old. And, just recently, we joined the hundreds of anxious parents who enlisted their kids for a free procedure.

My 9 - year - old kid however had to suspend his procedure after he wailed profusely on the treatment table.We could only feel his anxiety that we shall simply secure a more sympathetic service from a hospital.

Come school opening, a great number of boys shall be more than proud to show off that they are circumcised while other kids including my kid will have to wait for their turn next summer.

I happened to enjoy some workshop freebies for the recently purchased running shoes when a local store gave out some free coupons to some art workshop for kids. And, since my own son is out of town for a long vacation, I awarded the art coupons to my own nephew who enjoyed art than most people at home.

Summer is an ideal time to learn new skills as kids have at least 6 weeks to enjoy the school break. It is then unsurprising that local institutions initiate training and workshops for kids. These include some sports clinic like basketball, soccer or swimming to name a few and art training is not at all excluded from the list.

You too can enjoy the school break or any vacation as you use your time to learn new skills including computer literacy, art school, fashion or cosmetics and even electronics. All these along with the need equipment, services and paraphernalia like wire cover can make the learning all worthwhile.

So, search through your local ads or even online for some short - course education and summer can be extra fun.

Having a business as I do my other job as a college teacher can be quite a stressful one most especially if days are slow.

It i then imperative that businesses consider various means to promote their establishments and reach to as many potential clients and other stakeholders as possible.

So, it is not surprising that establishments use the social media like Twitter or Facebook to promote or online media marketing like sterkly network and the conventional media like TV, broad prints, radio and alike.

The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority has become a strong medium for easier employment as industries in the country and abroad screen out applicants with TESDA certificates. These certificates are intended to assess the competencies of middle - level skilled workers through the Philippine TVET Qualification and Certification System (PTQCS).

Any one who wants to measure his or her competency skill can actually apply to any of the following:

a. Private TESDA-accredited assessment centers. The list of accredited assessment centers is uploaded in the TESDA website: www.tesda.gov.ph
b. TESDA Regional and Provincial Offices
c. TESDA TVET Institutions-Assessment Centers

An applicant must bring the following:

a. Duly-accomplished Application Form
b. Three (3) Passport size picture with name written at the back of each picture
c. Duly-Accomplished Self Assessment Guide

When an applicant has demonstrated all required competencies, then, he / she is awarded a National Certificate or a Certificate of Competency for satisfactory qualification on certain cluster or unit of competency.

Five Things Attendees Might Want To Do Before the Mapping Summit

1. Create a GMail account if you don’t have one yet. While you can activate a Google account without having to use GMail, there are extra hoops you would have to jump through to be able to use Map Maker and interact with other mappers if you do not use GMail. Go to http://gmail.com/ and click on the red button labelled ‘create an account‘ or ‘sign up‘ to start creating your brand new GMail.

2. Activate your Google Plus profile. While on GMail, click on the upper right where your name appears and then click the blue ‘Join Google+‘ or ‘activate profile‘ button on the drop down menu. It would be easier for you to exchange ideas at the Map Maker forums when you have activated your public profile. You could also exchange ideas with other mappers on Google Plus without having to divulge to everyone your email address.

3. Activate your Google Places nickname. You gain credibility on Map Maker when you choose to identify yourself with a nickname rather than deciding to stay anonymous. It would also be easier for Expert Reviewers help you out if you have a nickname. Go to http://places.google.com/rate and then choose the nickname you want.

4. Visit Google Map Maker or http://mapmaker.google.com/ and watch and listen to the first tutorial. Be sure to start pursuing your first Map Maker edits by concentrating on your very own NEIGHBORHOODS.

5. Go back to your Google Plus account or to this–> https://plus.google.com/102046358673499084397 and add the Map 4 Mindanao Page to your G+ Circles.

After you have done everything, then you are now ready for the first-ever Google Map Maker Summit Mindanao!

Last April 14 was a good day as we did our usual trail run on a new course but with a more worthwhile cause, tree planting of hard wood seedlings at Mt Matutum base.

More than 25 runners had made a contributing change to protecting and preserving Mother Earth. And, having done that, we affirmed that we shall be pursuing more causes for Mother Earth.

We can only hope that more communities shall be both reactive and proactive to preserving our very own Earth.

Foursquare Day (stylized as 4sqDay) is a global social media holiday that was first observed on April 16, 2010 in hundreds of cities around the world. On March 26, 2010 the New York City-based Foursquare, officially declared April 16 “Foursquare Day” after a grass-roots movement that began in Tampa, Florida gained traction and eventually spread to hundreds of cities throughout the world.

This year, about 1,820 foursquare communities worldwide will be celebrating it and General Santos City shall be one of them.

New School Classrooms for Filipinos

With the school year, 2011 - 2012 officially done, the government schools and other private schools make use of the class break to start building of new classrooms for the new school year.

According to a national news, the Philippine government alone plans to build around 30,000 new classrooms to anticipate the booming number of students and pupils in government schools because of financial constraints.

It is then wiser that these schools and other partner institutions to build these classrooms and sheds and workshops among others with the full budget that they have, so, quality can be ensured. While there are construction and bidding procedures for this, we can anticipate that these classrooms can indeed be built and ready before classes start in June.

So, this is indeed one great news for all incoming students and pupils. And, teachers can only be much happier to warm these classrooms.

The torment of job search and employment begins when you start writing your resumes. Experts say that impression begins when you draft the most comprehensive and accurate resume in a two - page max.

But, once you are selected for a job interview, your real challenge begins. So, let us review what you must or must not do when you gear for your pending interview:

Dress appropriately. Choose only for safe colors like black, brown or blue or anything that is not too flashy shall do the job. Avoid seductive or geeky stuffs that would make a negative impression.
Come on time. Be at least 15 minutes earlier than your appointed interview schedule.
Be confident. Your resume would tell all but affirming these data shall rely on your oral assertion. You have to overcome your anxiety and watch out for your mannerisms.
Research the company. You might be most likely asked how you can contribute to the company, so, do your research and evaluate how your skills can significantly contribute.
Be honest and be fair in your answers. Think well your answers instead of giving out rushed thoughts.
Leave a good impression through listening well, smiling, making eye contacts, addressing well your interviewer(s);

A job interview requires preparation physically and mentally and with that, your skills and character shall face their total test.

The Runaway Teacher

Finally, after a long year and the school classes are done, I managed to get away from school and head to my second hometown, Zamboanga City.

I ran the 12 kilometers from Mercedes to Zamboanga City's newest pride, the Paseo del Mar. And, while the streets were free from the regular traffic in the early Saturday morning, I could only wish that I have my old SONY Sports MP3 to keep my running a little bit entertained.

I heard there are a lot of sports mp3 online including other musical instrument and equipment like markbass for cheap prices and I wish I can finally the budget to buy a new one to replace my lost old mp3.

I shall be leaving for Manila tomorrow and I hope I can find a good sports music player at reasonable price.

Filipino Teachers Leaving for Overseas

My graduate school classmates had recently graduated from our program and with their new academic upgrade, the opportunity can only become wider and more.

An overseas employment agency had recruited Filipino teachers for IT teaching in Ethiopia and in spite of the distance, a great number of Filipino teachers could only welcome the opportunity when compensation and other employment packages are to be considered.

With the dismal employment condition of Filipino teachers in the country, it is not surprising that they leave their families and nation for better pay and opportunities.

According to Public Services Labor Independent Confederation (PSLINK) in 2009, Filipino teachers head for the United States, which would need two million teachers in the coming decade, and Arab countries, which would need at least 450,000 teachers.

Other top destinations for Filipino teachers include Qatar and Japan.

A Nanny Teacher

Having a bunch of kids at a home can quite drive us crazy and when everyone wails, we can only wish to just use the big screen remote and mute all the shrieking audio.

But, most of the time, I like to see kids especially if they play and or make fun of themselves. Who can't resist seeing the kids' awkward moments and fall for their cuteness?

So, whenever we can, I bring my kid and nephews and niece to a fun walk in a mall among others. But, we wish we can have a city mini gt stroller to make the travel of our youngest family member.

In spite then of my job as a teacher, I love to babysit but then only for a few hours because I am no longer used to babysitting for long.

Now that school is finally over, the next toll that the graduates need to endure shall be to find and to land a job.

But, lucky are the graduates since most schools and local government units like the Philippine Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) do provide job or career fairs that house several employers.

So, to maximize the opportunity for employment, you can try the following tips.

Bring as many resumes as possible. Normally, a list of potential employers is pre-shown, thus, with the number of companies you are interested in, bring that number of resumes and 2 or 3 more;
Leave a good impression. Be on professional attire; communicate well.
Get the contact names for follow-up.
Research about the companies for a more interactive job interview;
Widen your network through meeting other potential job employment, job applicants and interviewers. You may not a land a job right away but the opportunity to harness your skills shall be all worth it.

Missing My Graduate School MIT Classmates

I started my graduate schooling in MIT in 2008 but decided to stop and pursue it again late last year. With one semester left, I could only anticipate to complete it before this year ends.

But, I managed to make friends with the Batch 2012 graduates that I could only be proud of them that they had finally completed the program.

I could only cross my fingers then, and wish to be on my MIT graduation clothes too!
